Was looking forward to popping into lounge as hadn’t been for a while. Saw some friends there too. However the wee jug bar door to lounge was wedged open. Awful draft so we closed it. Barmaid said regulars liked it open for more light. Then a customers huge dog farted and the smell wafted into lounge. Well that put us off our drinks. Won’t be back until attitude changes re jug bar door being wedged open.

I am not an experienced drinker, but we went here because my name is Leslie. The bartender was very patient with me and discussed all the different gins, particularly English ones. After all he recommended one my not very picky palate was very satisfied with. The ambiance feels very Scottish and we enjoyed our before dinner drink.

I lve on top and have only the best things to say about the bar and its staff, which is not to be taken for granted with neighbours and the high standard one has for the house bar. Some great beer selection with Yorkshire Ales and local specialities, good whiskies and wines, nice atmosphere, pub quizes and a fireplace. Almost a shame it's so close to home that one sometimes just opts for the cheaper beer fridge at home instead.

Beer is clearly well looked after by staff that know what they're doing - not as common as it should be in pubs selling real ale! Only thing that stopped me awarding top marks was the foul language of a bar bore who repeatedly used the "f" word at the top of his voice despite the presence of several couples. Sadly he was unchecked by the bar staff detracting from our overall experience. Hopefully not a regular feature as it is a great traditional bar.

I liked this pub very, very much. The interior is fantastic - an outstanding Victorian pub. It opened in 1896 - and at that time the one half of the pub was for the working class people, the other half for the wealthier folks, therefore, the bar is in the middle of the room with an interesting clock tower. There is also a nice fireplace in the pub. Leslies Bar offers a variety of 6 tasty cask ales, 12 beers, and lots of Single Malts. You can spend an afternoon there or an evening (or both) and feel always like in a living room – also thanks to bartender Barbara who has a good humour and is very friendly (but if you want her to stay happy, don't ask for Scottish Pilsener for it is hard to draw ;-)

Leslie's bar was recommended to us by a local in Edinburgh so we stopped in. We were the only people there with American accents, but after a while the locals accepted us. The food was good, the ales and Scotch were good, but the construction was amazing. This bar was built in 1896. It had elaborate tin paneled ceilings and a long wooden bar with a huge wooden arch. I don't know if I will ever get back to Edinburgh, but if I do my meals will be taken at Leslie's.
