Sweet little bistro at Leith Links. Short daily menu, good kitchen, nice atmosphere and good music choices. I like it.

On holiday in Edinburgh with friends we came there by chance, on Thursday evening, everything was perfect, no complaints

Wonderful to be back in your great wee cafe and get a sense of the range of food options and delicious cake and scones!!!! A special wee place...lovely staff...So nice to see Jan again as she gave me a special safe hideaway in her previous cafe in Portobello when my mum was really ill. A really supportive woman... Today the place had lots of old regulars and newbies enjoying the calm atmosphere....

Very good, got made this amazing coffee with 2 vanilla shots and was great! Definitely coming again!

I often tell myself that I should visit Bijou more often. The cosy Bistro is far from me and I must traverse Granton, Leith, the Links, and Restalrig but the trek is worthwhile. Always worth it. Bijou serves everything from plum desserts to chicken burgers. Bijou Bistro sounds French, but I'm not sure the menu is overwhelmingly Franco-centric. Tip: Always check the specials board. It's not a huge menu but are enough starters, mains, and tantalising desserts to talk about and pick something you like. Three or four course alternatives reassure me of good quality and minimum food waste. I'm confident you'll find something you like. I've risked trying to fit my solo-eating self a table on the weekend, only to find that the Bistro is booked out, which is also a good omen. So, if possible, book. The Bistro's popularity shows that locals like it. Even when packed, it feels inviting, like an oasis between neighbourhoods. Bijou serves good meals without fuss, elitism, or drama and it's an easy venue for me to recommend. [Update: March 24 - Still good. In Edinburgh for the festival and exploring Leith? It's worth exploring this far.]

Delicious and fresh food, friendly service in a warm, informal & welcoming space. £72 for 5 people having full Scottish brunches, coffee and teas. May want to book on weekend - we got lucky but close to fully booked.

My 3rd visit. Why do I keep going back? James is very welcoming and friendly! The food is delicious! Today (01/02/24), my daughter and I brought in my new puppy Bonnie. James was smitten! We complied to health and safety and thoroughly enjoyed our French Toast, bacon and maple syrup! We will return! Thank you,!

It was our visit couple of weeks ago and I definitely will not be the last one! Their special roast pork belly was our of this world! Service is super friendly and we also got a free massage ! :)

We called In yesterday for lunch and the food and coffee was incredible. We chatted to the staff and owner for ages. They were all so friendly, he even helped us so much with planning other things to do on our trip to Leith like visiting lind & lime which was also fantastic. Just wanted to thank you again for your help and for the great food!

Went for our first Sunday Roast at Bijou (after having it recommended) and it certainly won't be our last! Good tasty food, reasonably priced, polite and friendly service- what more can you ask for? The restaurant was cosy (only having 6/7 tables) but that just added to the atmosphere on a cold rainy Scottish Sunday!

Great wee cafe and bistro. Very friendly staff made me very welcome when I had an hour and a half to kill at 5pm on a wet Thursday. Great homemade carrot cake and a pot of tea were happily provided. They're open for breakfast, lunch and dinner and all times between with the chef on duty until 8:30 pm but no hassle if you want to take your time and stay until 11pm. Must return for dinner one night!

Got takeaway from here yesterday - had a fantastic experience, super lovely staff, great service and food that did more than just hit the spot. Will definitely be back.

Staying in the neighborhood, looking for a close by cafe, found a gem! Walked in 1/2 hour before opening and allowed to stay and dry off and have glasses of wine. Great mushroom soup of the day as well as fried bass with sauce modification. Really enjoyed my timeshare chatting with locals and staff! Accessible bathrooms.

Nice comfortable neighborhood restaurant with varying menu.

Tad on the expensive side. Great listening staff. Ristretto espresso was super great. Loved the staff, cook and owner. Will be back next week....

The best breakfast we've ever had, not kidding! Fabulous service, comfy, relaxed, what a place. No wonder Bijou has been going since 2006, folk must love it. I'd move to the area if I could, just to become a regular! Thank you to the fabulous staff, you made an ordinary day extraordinary!

The cooked breakfast wasn't great. The eggs, bacon etc were all burnt. As the bistro was busy I didn't want to make a fuss.

A welcome return to the Bijou. The usual friendly welcome from the owner. Good food and drink. I had beer battered haddock which was delicious.

Popped in for a drink having just arrived in Edinburgh. Greeted by a lovely, really helpful young lady who went out of her way to give us ideas on activities and attractions in the area. She wrote down bus numbers and made many useful suggestions. She made our first taste of Edinburgh really special....thank you and good luck in the future!

I am posting this review with regret as I have visited Bijou many times over the year's and have always enjoyed the standard of food they serve. However, I visited with my partner & friends on Saturday evening and although it was a complete accident on behalf of the waitress, she spilled my whole main meal over my lap. She was very apologetic and embarrassed, but it was the fact that my dress was ruined with grease and food, but no compensation was offered by anyone in charge, such as a free drink or something off the bill. Apart from a 'sorry' we were asked to pay the full amount. It has changed my view about returning to Bijou in the future.

Dining alone so went early. Nice room, lovely staff and good food. Excellent value. Recommended.

Went to Bijou Bistro during my stay in Leith and had to go back a few days later as I couldn’t stop thinking about the meal I had, it was that good! Wonderful staff - so friendly and helpful to me being new in town! Highly recommend 🙂

Great place for a traditional Scottish breakfast(other breakfast choices) available. Good value for money, great food and coffee and friendly staff. Not many tables so worth booking.

Lovely place to pop into after some recreation on Leith Links. We were there between 10 and 12 so had an egg roll and a bacon roll. As the menu states, the rolls were huge. Also delicious coffee. And ever so friendly staff.

Great small restaurant in Leith. I had the beef cheeks, they were amazing. The apple and strawberry crumble was to die for. All 4 of us head great food and a great time. Great banter from James, will definitely be back. The stropey wife fae Aiberdeen 😜

Such a wonderful small bistro. The food is really excellent, great choice of wine and all reasonably priced for the quality. The staff are amazing and it's always warm and family. Breakfast and dinner are great and they are very dog friendly. Highly recommended

Gave this wee place a bash as it usually never open even when the times are advertised. Anyway Not a nice breakfast horrid sausage, haggis had a funny flavour, and our eggs where crispy. Won’t be back.

Great little bistro. Arrived at 12:30, got a table for 4 and a dog no problem. They offered us the last breakfasts if we wanted them. They brought them out with a whole bunch of extras for the table that would have gone to waste otherwise. The drinks were great, the staff were friendly, the place was clean and they were dog friendly. Excellent find and would highly recommend.

We came here for breakfast. The only good thing was coffee. Food with plenty of grease. Was sick all day after. And we came with our dogs there, didn’t even suggested water for them.

Tremendous hidden gem just off Leith links. The food here is exceptionally good and the owner James always ensures a good time for his guests with his warm and gregarious nature. This is the second time I've organised our work Christmas party to be at Bijou just because it's reliably a good place to have a good time. Cosy friendly atmosphere, top notch service and highest compliments to the new chef. Everyone was raving about the food. Also very grateful for the flexibility and creativity in creating a separate menu for one of the team with several allergies. Very appreciated. Thanks so much Bijou, we'll be back!

Had an amazing unplanned early dinner in Bijou this evening. Tired and hungry, we had three serious courses! Delicious Cullen Skink, Fish Pie with lovely crunchy veg and a lovely spiced plum crumble with proper custard. Wine was very good. What a great chef and charming service. We left feeling very happy . Atmosphere was cosy and getting very busy as we left. One of the best meals I have had in Edinburgh. Thank you and we will be back.

Booked Bijou for Brunch on a Sunday. James was very welcoming, as were all the staff. Obviously likes to make all their customers very welcome, which is lovely. Had the Croque Monsieur, which was delicious and very filling. Would love to come back for a boozy brunch/ lunch, next time! Dogs welcome, which is always a thumbs up from me! Great place.

The best meal we have had in as long as we can remember! Front of house is witty and cheerful - fosters such an incredible environment that the entire restaurant was interacting with each other. Table behind us had booked again for the next night and the table to our right had already been in the night before! A testament to the quality of the entire experience - we will certainly be back.

Exquisite. Charming little restaurant and staff. We ordered the beef cheeks, which I found to be hands down the best meat dish I've ever had.. I never thought something could top a good duck confit. Hats off to the chef. Good wine selection, and the surprise discovery of genuine Breton cider at the end of the night.. God how I missed good cider. Shall be back for sure :) If they'll have us! :)

Just back from Bijou Bistro- we are gutted to not have tried this before! What a find. Delicious full breakfast and croque monsieur. We will definitely be back for more and for some dinner as well. Well done!

Incredible. Easily some of the best food I’ve ever tasted, and the most splendid atmosphere to eat it in. We stopped in for a cheeky wine in the afternoon and the owner, James, came right over and made us feel at home. So much so we had to come back later for dinner! We took his recommendations on what to get and wished we could have more. The chef, Eddie, needs his own cookbook; the photos I’ve posted won’t do it justice. So much flavour, and care, and passion. You must go here if visiting Edinburgh!! The other great thing is how much James makes every guest feel like family. Another table actually kept checking in with us as well because they wanted to make sure we loved the place as much as they did. So sweet!!

I tried fish and chips and they were great! It was my welcome to Edinburgh, James is truly and enjoyable person, he gave us directions and suggestions on what to do next, as well as in our trip through Scotland highlands. The burger and the croques (ham/cheese). rocks!!

Was a great find for us. We spoke, at length, with James (the owner). He was delightful. We're from the US, and he was very helpful with recommendations for the local area. In addition to that, the food was delicious. I had the full breakfast, wife had the French toast, friend had the croque madame. It was all very good. Would definitely go back!

We went here as part of a birthday present and Ed the chef did not disappoint. We attended the supper club which he does normally on the first Monday of every month. 8 course this one was and everything was outstanding. I can’t wait to come back and try the normal menu and the breakfast which looks tremendous.

First visit to Bijou and we were extremely impressed. Great food, excellent service and great value for money. We will certainly be back although we live in Fife. Highly recommended

Lovely wee restaurant in Leith Links. Family had the cod and Coq au vin, I had the lentils. Chef Ed is fantastic! Lentils were perfectly cooked and paired with pickled veg, salads, edible flowers and bread. All balanced well. Lovely wines, proseccos and coffee. Staff Derek and James are so lovely and very very helpful. Will 100% be back to visit them all soon. Recommend !

This used to be my regular breakfast place back in 2012-13 when I lived in the city and it was the best breakfast joint in all of Edinburgh. I came back today, 10 years later, as I was in Edinburgh for work. I don't know how it's physically possible, but the breakfast is even better than I remember. This is absolutely the best veggie breakfast in Scotland.

My experience of this place was sensational! The waiter took me and my daughter on a trip to Paris with his linguistic games and made us feel very welcome and treasured bless him. He went the extra mile and enriched their butter croissant on sale with magic chocolate for my daughter - she's 6yo and trully delighted by the gesture. I found it very kind and sweet too, as well as my extra soft and warm cinnamon bun. Nice coffee in big portions and the area well ventilated and looked after. Bijou Bistro is a very lovely place for a pit stop from Leith Links shenanigans, thank you for being there for us 🥰🌹

Went as a farewell dinner with my parents on their vacation - the food was amazing - we had the charcuterie board, mushroom gnocchi (sooo soo sooo good), fish cake, and fish and chips and finished with a sticky toffee pudding. A true hidden gem in Leith and now my new favourite restaurant in Edinburgh. The food however doesnt even compare to the atmosphere, James the owner/server/wine expert/floor show, made us feel at home immediately and was probably the best part of the night - Thank you to Bijou for making the end of our vacation memorable - We will definitely be back many times and will recommend that everyone come here for delicious food and a fun evening.

Ordered a soup, the best of its kind - Celeriac, Thyme and Tain cheddar. Great friendly service and a delight to sit by the links on a sunny afternoon for lunch!

Fantastic food, excellent atmosphere and it feels like being at home in place of a restaurant James is such a fabulous host and can't recommend his restaurant highly enough.

Fabulous doubler breakfast roll in here, in fact it is more than a doubler!! I had sausage and tattie scone......which was tattie scone, sausage, another tattie scone then another sausage! Fab coffee too. Very cosy atmosphere, just what was required on a crisp autumn morning. Owner very welcoming, would highly recommend if you are in the Leith Links area.

A favourite wee restaurant of mine. Always delicious and interesting food

One of our first post-lockdown meals out and boy was it good! Scallops to start were perfectly cooked and served with a fresh & zesty ribbon salad. Lamb shank main fell of the bone and curried veg with griddled halloumi was out of this world....

Closed at 3.15 instead if 5pm so had to cancel a meeting!

We organised a private dinner for a group of around 25 of us on a Saturday evening, and what an amazing success the evening was. The host and owner Jamie was tremendous at making us feel very welcome from the minute we arrived, we pre ordered the food which was amazing so we didn't sample the main menus, it was a relaxed and fun environment so everybody felt welcome and happy to be there. I can imagine it is equally relaxed for an intimate dinner too, so thank you Jamie for making it a very special night for us. Thoroughly recommend a visit and very worth while going slightly off the beaten track to find it, and getting something less formulaic than other restaurants offer.

Although it is easily missed ... You should definitely not miss it ... Indeed a bijou ... The name is well chosen.

Great coffee and amazing lemon tarts.

My sister and I had Sunday lunch here, she is celiac so can't eat gluten but they adapted one of their dishes for her. We had fish and chips (my sister's fish without the batter), followed by gluten-free chocolate fudge cake and ice cream freshly churned that morning - both delicious. Our waiter was very helpful and kept us amused with his banter between courses. They even had 50's pop music on their sound system - just our era. Thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience, will go again.
