Just tried Jholpai for the first time. Absolutely stuffed. The food was delicious with the main meal portions very substantial. Cooked to perfection, packed with flavour and very moreish. Pshwarie nan was one of the best that we have ever had. Staff very polite, chatty and attentive. We will definitely be back........and soon. Happy, happy customers. Thank you.

During Our road trip to Scotland - we stayed one night at strawfrank - we ordered food on phone and we asked them to keep to ready as we wanted to pick it up - they prepared the food and made it ready before we reached. The attendant greeted us humbly and asked about our well-being. The food was good - neither bad nor excellent. They by mistake replaced our one item with the other - but overall good that we got the typical Indian food. Liked their service and courtesy.

Been to Jolpai many times since it opened and had many takeaway curries over the years. This really is a top quality restaurant and not your bog standard curry house. Well worth a visit and always look forward to eating here when I come back!

Ordered a takeaway from here on Saturday for a meal with some friends visiting from London. The lamb jalfrezi was outstanding, very tasty, meat was very tender, no complaints at all. Everyone really enjoyed their meal, cost was reasonable.

There was only one other table occupied so no real atmosphere. Food was excellent and service couldn't be faulted.

I have reviewed this restaurant many times before and all very positive (see my earlier reviews). My wife and I ordered a takeaway for the Bank Holiday weekend. We ordered Popadoms, Onion Bhajis, a Lamb Badami, a Chicken Tikka Jalfrezi, a Sag Bhaji and Pilau Rice. We found all the food to be of a good standard, but now on the pricy side and now no discounts offered when collecting the curry yourself which is a great pity. The worst price was the Sag Bhaji which is now £5.50 per portion and used to be £3.50. To add insult to injury, the portion size for this side dish had been halved and the container wasn't even half full. Whilst we appreciate all the inflation rates has pushed prices up, we certainly would not pay £5.50 for a half portion of a side dish. My biggest regret was not taking a photograph of the portion size of the Sag Bhaji.

Food delicious. I've never seen Parathas cooked like this before. There are two to a serving and they are folded into a foil container. We ordered curry for 3 and a couple of sides plus the parathas - it cost just over £50. I think this was the best curry we've had from here this time.

The food was excellent, the service attentive. We enjoyed the evening very much. Compliments to the cook.

Thank you for listening to my complaint. I appreciate that you refunded my spend. It saddened me that you took no interest in my view but chose to say how many appreciative clients you have. I took the effort to return your goods ,you should give looked at them. If saag paneer looks like the picture posted I'm surprised anyone would eat it. What no pakora of any kind anymore? So we had the samosa instead. Meagre, dry, tasteless and expensive little things which looked like they had come from an Asda party pack. I think Asda’s party pack might taste better. Very disappointed as the veg pakora was one of our favourites. We literally had that every visit it was so good. Not sure anything else on the starter menu was for us. We may just go eat elsewhere.

went in for a takeaway but they have stopped doing pakora and also stopped doing lamb tikka so came away empty handed

very slow service, food of poor quality and portion size. no draught beer bottles only, seemed to be more interested in delivery service than customers.

Absolutely perfect, food was melt in your mouth. This will now be a regular choice for us.

Fantastic meal for all four family members on the evening of 13 August. Three of us opted for the buffet - great food (and plenty more of it!) for just over £10 pounds per person. My niece opted for an à la carte choice and was also completely satisfied. All of that was rounded off with a delicious ice cream choice for each of us. VERY friendly and hardworking staff. Will definitely be going back :)

Thought we would try Jholpai last night for the first time. Very impressed with our takeaway. Restaurant quality meal. Absolutely delicious and I'm a mega Indian food fan so takes a lot for me to be impressed! So much fresher and tastier than the standard 'stodge' you get from some Indian takeaways. Will be our go to Indian takeaway moving forward.

During all the lockdown period, my wife and I have been getting a takeaway from this restaurant most Saturdays. Although some of the dishes have been hit and miss on occasions and in particular a Lamb Madras which was not good, this week the takeaaway was exceptionally good. We pre-order online through their own website which is very good indeed allowing you to leave any special requirements to the Chef which is a very nice personal touch. This last Saturday (5th December 2020), was the best curry we have ever had from Jholpai. We ordered Popadoms with a tamarind dip to start with and the dip was absolutely excellent! For our main dishes, my wife ordered Lamb Rajasthani Gosht (medium) and I ordered Chicken Tikka Jalfrezi (hot) and we also had a side dish of a Sag Bhaji as well as our normal Pilau rice. All the dishes this week were excellent. I always ask for the collection at a set time and I have to say the timings have been very good indeed with just one exception. The staff are friendly and helpful. We both hope that this restaurant will continue to serve up the standard of food we had last Saturday each and every week from now on as it was truly excellent. All the dishes were very tasty indeed and sensible portions. Well done to all the staff who have kept the restaurant running through the pandemic!

Time and time again we travel into Lanark from Biggar to enjoy the food from the Jholpai. Why? The food is just so tasty. Everything I could want from a curry. Fresh ingredients you can identify and every dish does not look or taste the same. We will be back again, again and again 😺💕😺

Coming from Birmingham and eating in endless Balti/Curry houses and Desi Pubs it's always hard when you're away from home.Well this place is the standout from all of those. The menu is great and varied and actually makes it difficult to choose what you want to eat.We had a variety of starters and mains and the consistent thing was alm the meat was superbly tender, beautiful cooked and the flavours were deep. Nothing was to hot to the pallette but you could sense the flavours coming through slowly as you ate your meal.If you are ever in this area and like good Indian food, this place is an absolute must.

Awful meal & Cold. - first visit Just ordered takeaway for us to collect. Was informed 45 minutes wait for our order, with being a Saturday we were fine with this. My husband went down on 30 minutes to wait. We live near. Later he returned with our order, very disappointed with this meal, our chicken tikka meal, the sauce very runny, chicken was hard in areas over cooked or left for to long gone hard. Was cold. Rice and nan bread to were cold. Living near there was no excuse for this. Chips were awful, looked like re-heats and again not hot. Really annoyed and most of it binned.

We tried Jholpai for the first time after hearing some good reviews from family members. Due to it being a Sat night, we expected the delivery time to be a bit longer and ordered our meal at 5.45pm. We ordered through Just Eat and initially it said delivery was around an hour (perfectly acceptable) but then was notified on app to expect it at 7.05pm (still not an issue). We started to feel concerned when it still hadn't arrived by 7.30pm so tried calling the restaurant through the number on the app but it just rang out. At nearly 8pm, my husband eventually got through to the restaurant via another number found online, only to be told it was too busy/noisy to hear properly and could they phone back. After a couple more phone calls (at this point the app had updated to say our order had been delivered, not true!), we were eventually assured it would be on its way soon (It was now 8.30pm). We were offered a refund, which my husband accepted, expecting to receive it back onto the card we paid with. The owner phoned back to say he had forgotten to give our money to the delivery driver but that someone would post it through our letterbox at the end of the night (all very bizarre). In the end, we waited 3 hours for our food to arrive. The veg pakora, rice and garlic naan were extremely bland, the poppadoms soggy and the chasni (which did taste alright) had only 6 small chunks of chicken in it. This cost more than our usual takeaway with significantly smaller portions and nowhere near as tasty. We're also still waiting on our refund... We won't be ordering from here again!

Arranged delivery direct with restaurant. Arrived slightly before agreed time which was absolutely fine - better than being late! Food was outstanding..Genuinely the best Indian meal I’ve had in a long, long time. Poppadoms and naan excellent as always. Recommend.

Only been in lanark for about 11 months but i cannot praise the food and service enough. Delivery was quick and food was awsome . I had chicken chasni , chicken korma, garlic nan. chicken pakora and popadoms . The owner/service was brill i just felt nothing i asked for was a hastle . But of course the most important was the food it was absolutely delicious. Thanks again for supplying this service in such a difficult time. I cannot wait until your open again so i can come visit for a sit in meal :-) .

Just Eat order last weekend, delivery time 1.5hrsThe sauces were tasty, nice fragrant rice, nan cooked to perfection a tab small for 2 to share.The Tikka Chicken in all dishes was dry/overcooked.The Chicken Pakora was battered chicken strips, bland, soggy & greasy, the neon green dip was a surprise, not a onion/salad in sight, perhaps the hotbox sweated the batter & ate the onions - Would not recommended .The Butter Tikka Chicken was very Kormaish, nice if you like korma.Chasni sauce light, creamy & tangy - would recommend if the chicken was tender.Tandoori Tikka, Chicken, no rice/salad, chicken was dry/overcooked in a red sauce with cooked onions, with accompaniment sauce ( what’s the point ? ) personally prefer Tandoori Chicken straight from the oven sitting on onions with the choice to use the sauce - another new experience, would definitely not recommend.Contacted Jholpai expressing disappointment, was advised that this was their 7 year traditional ingredients , taste / texture can differ slightly when contained than when freshly presented & offered 20% off next order.

Delicious food, beautiful light fluffy rice nan breads to die for, extensive menu. Lovely white starched table covers with good sized cotton napkins essential when eating curry😄. Staff attentive & pleasant

We’ve been visiting Jholpai for 5 years and nearly every week. We go there because the food is good, staff are friendly and helpful, and the kitchen will always tailor food to needs if required. I.e, more chillis please, or well done nan .... it’s never an issue.The staff have changed over the years, and everyone is friendly and helpful.

This restaurant is very nice indeed I would certainly recommend it to my friend and any of that asks me what restaurant to go to.

We moved to the area 4 years ago and visited the Johlpai shortly after moving in. Our meal was nothing more than average. Gave it a second chance a couple of years later. My favourite Indian dish is Tandoori chicken on the bone so chose that. It was undercooked and bland. Gave the place another try last night. Ordered a take away and wish I hadn't bothered. My King Prawn Tikka Masala was mild to the point of being sweet and was so bright red it practically glowed in the dark. My wife's Lamb Biriyani was equally tasteless and the dog got most of it for breakfast. Going by the previous reviews I'll give them the benefit of the doubt and presume I caught the chef on a bad night....all three times.

Been really lucky with our choices of restaurants recently but reckoned it was about to run out, but it didnt tonight. 3 friends, 3 starters, 3 mains, 4 glasses of wine, 2 soft drinks, a drambuie, a Tia Maria and a coffee . £86, fantastic value for money and the food was amazing, what really made our night though was the guy serving, he was on his own and handled everything superbly. We will definately be back and, I wish I had got his name, I hope this young guy is on again. Thank you xx

Review as promised Jahed, from Marion and Derrick !We visited here Friday 22nd. The restaurant was full, as a previous reviewer said there was a Christmas parade in Lanark. The service was excellent as usual from all the lovely staff. We both had Shashlik and fried rice, and it was delicious, we were so annoyed we couldn't finish it all as the portions were generous. We've booked for Christmas day and are looking forward to it.

This evening Lanark was very busy with a Christmas festival going on. I was very lucky to be looked after at this restaurant. Not only was the food out of this world, but the service was so excellent too. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone and everyone who is lucky enough to visit Lanark.

Had dined here last week and enjoyed meal so booked table . Service was extremely slow over 1 hour for starters , chicken was tasteless and chewy , out of party of 6 the vegetarian was the only person who enjoyed meal . Then after bill was paid and checked we noticed tap water charge was £1.95 ! Same as a can of Coke Disgraceful.Only 1 member of party was drinking water so profit would be make from other drinks .

I've been here before for a sit down meal and it was fine.nothing brilliant but ok.definently better in glasgow but passable.However we ordered take away rather than go out and to say I was disappointed was an understatement.it took over an hour to arrive and when it did it was cold.with one dish missing also.a quick phone call achieved nothing.So I wont ever use this place again.poor attitude over the phone.If I could give a negative star rating but I cant.avoid!!!!far better other restaurants in the town.

Only in Lanark for 1 night and wanted somewhere decent to eat for my partners birthday dinner. Checked online and Jholpai got a good write up so we went along and we weren’t disappointed. I’m trying hard to be good and follow a diet and the waitress talked me through some dishes and explained how they were cooked. She then spoke to the chef about what I wanted and made sure the good had no oils added. When it came (chicken shashlik), it was amazing so if you find yourself looking for somewhere to eat in Lanark, with chefs that listen to your needs, eat here!!

This was recommended to us while on holiday in the area. Were going to visit but were too tired to go out so ordered a takeaway to our holiday accommodation. Used the online service and food was delivered exactly when they said it would be. One of the best Indians we have had. Everything was delicious, can't recommend highly enough.

Having saw the reviews for the place we decided to order a takeaway whilst at a friends for the night . Waited ages for delivery . Food arrived lukewarm and bland . Very disappointing I wouldn’t recommend.

Having been to the restaurant for a sit down meal on several occasions we were all looking forward to a take away meal with family as we had always enjoyed our meals.

By far the best Indian restaurant around .. and on a Tuesday evening even better with the low price buffet menu (£10.95 ) food is freshly prepared, service is friendly accommodating and professional which compliments the great tastes even more

We had both starters and mains. I have a need for no more than mild heat from the spice without adding cream or nuts, and this was accommodated well. The food was delicious, with very generous portions - next time, I will just have a main course, as I have quite a small appetite. Staff very friendly and helpful.

Ate at this restaurant last night and found the food to be completely tasteless. Starter was ok, but my meal and my friends were bland and tasteless. We hardly touched it and no one asked us if there was anything wrong with the meals.

Had a lovely meal here. Their menu is huge and it took a long time to decide what I wanted. Service was fantastic and the food was delicious. Husband and I were pleased to see Gulab Jamun on the menu, and they didn't disappoint!

On Saturday my family chose to take home a takeaway from Jholpai, we ordered from the grumpy guy with the beard (he never smiles !).

The meal wasn't great a bit of a let down I'll be taking my custom some where else I wouldn't recommend this it's a waste of your money.

Another visit to Jholpai this time for my husband Derrick's birthday. As always we had a delicious meal, Prawn Shashlik and chicken Xacutti were excellent, and the service from Jahed and his staff was perfect. We are so lucky in Lanark to have this gem.

We were going to a show in Lanark and as a taxi driver this place was recommended. We were made very welcome and service was excellent. I have eaten many places in Glasgow and Lanarkshire so know good Indian food when taste. The meal was amazing ! My Partner left her plate better than a dishwasher would ! Mine would have been same but portions generous and I did fill up on starters, so my plate had 3 grains of rice left ! The meal was very special, staff and owners could not have been better. Will definitely be back within next two weeks and see this as being a regular visit. It's a 30 min drive but a nice one, and food that amazing is worth it. What I particularly liked was the delicate mix of spices which were not drowned out with chilli, proper chef. My adorable partner had Chicken Tika and I had Rogan Josh, Peshawari nan and Paulo rice, we had spiced onions and veg pakora and my mouth watering at the memory ! Fantastic experience for the taste buds which are still dancing 24 hours later. This place is special. The atmosphere was cosy but open, music was Indian and Romantic.
