Food is good, but sticky floors, grubby no music, waitress didn't know the names if dishes on the menu, weird experience, bur again, food was pretty good, not great at all. Ih, no draft beers, bottles only and overpriced.

First time ordering takeaway tonight and I have to say the food was 10/10. I’ve tried a fair few takeaways and they are all the same standard. This was restaurant quality food at takeaway price. Delivery was quick and the delivery driver was very friendly. Will certainly be ordering again.

I can honestly say I have never had a bad curry from this place. The food is always hot. The dishes are spot on, we are vegetarians and order the paneer instead of the meat using the 'make your own curry' option. The paneer always seems to be fresh and a generous sized portion. The variation in terms of allergens and choice is exceptional. The delivery is always super quick and reaches us before expected. Please keep doing a great job and thank you for the fantastic service.

Ordered food for delivery and even though it was more expensive than other restaurants it was recommended. Food arrived and ‘masala chips’ were simply fries with red food colouring applied and were raw. £7 lamb chop starter was disappointing with only two chops and hardly any meat. So called salad dips for the poppadoms were mango chutney, onions in mango chutney and a bright green ‘yoghurt’ dip. Called the restaurant to complain. Man on the phone was rude and dismissive. Gave me a number so I could send photos of the chips. It was a fake number. This take away for two people cost £50 and was the worst I have ever ordered. Very disappointed in the food and the customer service response.

Had a wonderful meal that we really enjoyed here a couple of weeks ago, the food quality was incredible! I particularly recommend the chilli paneer starter. The flavour of the sauce was beautiful and the paneer itself was tender and much less 'rubbery' than what I've had at many other Indian restaurants. The naan bread was also delectable being the perfect combination of crispy on the outside with a fluffy centre. The only thing I'd say needs slight improvement is elements of the service, for example the staff had to go and check when it came to what drinks were available on a relatively quiet evening

Booked table to eat in and restaurant so cold I could see my breath. Decided to take food home and let them know this way before serving but charged me sit-down prices, which added insult to situation. Disappointed.

Really nice friendly staff and fantastic food the garlic chilli lamb curry was really good with tender pieces of lamb and the nan bread I had was really fresh and crisp I would recommend this place for a curry and we will go again It's a shame it's not busier It doesn't have a menu in the box at the bottom of the stairs that used to be lit up and the entrance don't do the place any favours With a bit of advertising and word of mouth could be busier as 6 of us really enjoyed the food.

Ordered a takeaway was mainly juice hardly any meat or veg but was absolutely disgusting to find a hair in it 🤮 have messaged them but no response won't be using again

Popped in as an ambulance crew in the area for our lunch break. Phoned ahead to order and when we got there, food was ready for us, hot, fresh and very much delicious. Staff were very friendly and couldn't do enough for us. Thank you very much for lovely food. Will definitely be back for in visit when we are in the area

Sometimes, I can get a curry from here, and it blows me away for flavour, some of the best curries I've ever had. Then sometimes, it tastes like someone has microwaved a pot noodle and mixed it with rice. They blatantly have more than one guy pulling the strings in the kitchen. One guy is a curry god. One is absolutely useless. Just pot luck which one you get. On that basis, I would not recommend, until they figure out that they have a (or a few) useless cook and sack him.

Decided to order from here tonight as usually go out of town but came reccomended so thought I would give it a try, ordered my usual order when it arrived the food was stone cold as if sat on the kitchen side all night, completely lacked any taste or flavour the vegetable samosa was a dull pastry containing nothing but mashed potato, the onion bahji also had zero flavour and tasted Almost like a dumplin, furthermore the actually curry itself was completely bland and had zero spice. Not the type of person who usually complains would usually just take it on the chin and would not return, but I felt the issue needed addressing because if I owned my own restaurant I would prefer someone to give me constructive feed back so that I can improve upon my business but this was not the case, I was then handed to the manager who told me he cooked the meal personally and he would collect the meal and give me a full refund whilst all being very bad tempered. When he arrived at my house he looked at the food started taking photos of it on my doorstep too send to the chef but when he spoke on the phone he told me that he prepared the meal himself so was lying to me about that, and then refused to give me any kind of refund when he suggested the refund himself and then proceeded to shout at me on my doorstep telling me that there was food missing too which I told him I obviously had to taste some too know it was an awful meal. When we had amicably reached the idea that I would receive half of my money back he proceeded to tell me I would receive a refund online when I had paid for my meal in cash, when I pointed this out to him he pulled £20 out of his pocket and practically threw the money at me and stormed away, what a bad tempered little man he is. I’m so sorry Gurkha chicken Stapleford for using another business but next time I will really appreciate my meal from you as this experience has made me realise you are 10/10 in comparison.

I decided to treat my parents to an Indian as a thank you for their help recently. Because of the flooding we chose this Indian because it was closest and wouldn’t be effected by the flood in terms of delivery. We ordered over the phone because it wouldn’t allow us to order online. This was at 5.30 and was told an our for delivery. This is normal for an Indian take away. 1.5 hours later I called up as it hadn’t arrived. I was told the driver was on his way. 10 mins later I had a call to say that they had delivered it to the wrong house and would have to do the order again and it would be 35-40 mins. I was not offered a discount for the inconvenience so I asked and was offered 20% back off of the bill. The manager sounded extremely aggressive in the background which I found rude because this wasn’t my fault and not the sort of behaviour you would expect to see in such a situation. The food arrived at 8pm with no refund of 20%. When I called up the phone was ignored. The food was not worth the wait my dad and I ordered a chicken korma as this is all we can eat due to health reasons and this is always cooked with coconut and is never spicy no matter when we have been in the past. What we got had never seen coconut and was spicy so was completely inedible. The only reason for the stars I have given is because my mum enjoyed her chicken tikka masala and they both enjoyed the Bombayaloo. Really disappointed in both the food and the service and certainly will not be using them again. This is not how you treat customers especially if you want them to return!

Went here tonight with my girlfriend for her birthday. The service was excellent, really friendly and attentive - it was extremely hot today and he made sure we were comfortable at our table. The food and drink were served quickly and with a smile and the food was all delicious. Highly recommended - if you can't make it to the restaurant they also offer takeaway! Will definitely be back.

Absolutely amazing food, full of flavors without the greasy aftertaste. Well worth a visit. To start was the tandori panier and the fish amritsari, genuinely great taste the food was piping hot and didn't taste like it was pre-made. The main course wasn't on the menu as I had asked what the server preferred, but it's his take on the garlic chilli chicken curry, except it was made with lamb and had his unique taste of spices. It was delicious and was complimented with lemon rice. The other main was chicken biryani. And this was definitely made fresh the chicken was perfect. Overall the food was outstanding, but what let's it down unfortunately is the outside entrance doesn't do it any favors, I would highly recommend giving jhakhas a try.

We visited Jhakhas 👌🏽 for the first time and we are already planning our next visit. This is a hidden gem and deserves more recognition. The food was delicious, great value for money and staff were very friendly and welcoming. We really enjoyed our experience and can’t recommend this restaurant enough! Thank you to all staff!

Have just been to Jhakhas for a meal. First thing is how polite and friendly the staff are great service. For starters we had the old favourite but I wanted to try something a bit different so I had the Salmon dill Stater it was fantastic and will have it again. We had Dhada Murg and Nawabi lamb curries with rice. It’s was all so tasty. I had plans next week to go out for a meal but will be changing plans to revisit and try different options on the menu. Really enjoy the meal for both quality and the service

5 pieces of chicken, 4oz of rice, salad and curry sauce with a 1 inch wide mint yogurt for £12.50 and a shop bought naan bread. The second meal no better….£44 and had to cook as the food was more like 2 starters. Wish I could say it tasted great but has there was only 3 mouthfuls ….well I can’t . Think the good reviews may come from eating in but avoid takeaways as they are very expensive mistakes

We order from here a lot the food is always good very authentic lovely flavours and just the right amount of spice for each dish. Would 100% recommend to others.

Visited here again on Saturday 20th April , we took 5 friends with us who all had never been here before.they all loved it and all can’t wait to return. 3 of the guest where vegan which they managed to cater for very well as they do not claim to be a vegan food restaurant, Food was amazing as always, I tried something different every visit and it’s all been outstanding Thanks again, see you all soon

Been here a few times, can't really fault the food it's always beyond expectations and really delicious which is why it surprises me so much that they use such aggressive marketing methods and spam text and email messages. You're forced to enter a phone number and email address to place and order and despite unchecking boxes for marketing you have to accept the terms and conditions which I assume opts you in to marketing messages. Really disappointed with this invasive approach especially when the food is nice it's just shouldn't be necessary. I won't return here again purely due to the unsolicited messages and emails. Really disappointed.

Ordered with the just eats app tonight! Chicken was dry, we had 2 different curries a lamb achari and a chicken tikka, the sauces in both tastes very similar like a shop jar bought with just different spice levels to it! The rice came half full only good thing was the naan! The sauce was so horrible tasted like it had been burned in the pan and served to us! Don't normally slander small businesses but the sauce tasted so horrible can tell it is a jared sauce, heated up and spice added to it! 10/10 wouldn't recommend

Being a complete foodie, I visit all the acclaim good restaurants for food, so “Jhakas” 👌 was in my list for long time. I visited Jhakas and ordered a takeout. I Ordered the mix grill platter, 2 curries, pilau rice and garlic coriander Naan. The food quality was outstanding and portion size was great value. As mentioned in the beginning of my review that I am a big foodie and eaten Indian food all over the country, I can very confidently say that, here was probably the best Indian food around Derby and Nottingham… very authentic and full of flavours. Very much like what you get in India. So people looking for Indian food which suits everyone’s taste and budget, “JHAKAS” 👌is the place. The restaurant has ample parking for dining in customers and for takeaway customers too. Very impressed and very well done Jhakas for keeping authenticity of the mighty Indian Cuisine.

We went as a couple to celebrate our 9th anniversary and OMG!! The biggest regret in our life. Totally ruined our special occasion. The staff is so grumpy and unfriendly. Terrible food. Fish was under cooked. Other meats were over cooked and dry. Seasoning unbalanced, some are extremely spicy other are tasteless. My wife did not feel well the day after and had to call sick for work. Honestly we were so disappointed and NEVER AGAIN !!!!

Its definitely not for Indians.. Chicken in Ilkeston kebabs is much more spicy and yumm than this.. & expensive too. 3stars for the ambience, staff & quick service!!!

Fantastic Indian food but a lot more expensive than others in the area.

This little hidden gem of a restaurant is an absolute treasure. Stellar service, decadent food, heavenly wine, if you have any doubts about it, cast them aside and give it a try. Portions seem at first glance small, but it's deceptively filling and beyond measure delightful. The staff are friendly, cheerful, and add to the overall feeling of luxury in this already shockingly lovely location. Right above the school uniform shop of all places, Jhakhas is a must eat place. I will be returning for more personally! ***Update September 12, 2021*** Jhakhas has once again been visited by myself, and it was just as wonderful as the last time. The workers remembered us, and everyone was super lovely, but the shining star was the food. If you're in Ilkeston and was Indian food, you can't miss this place!

Really enjoyed our meal. The service was excellent.

My dad and his wife flew in from the US to visit, finally being free to travel. He was really craving some Indian food so we decided to find a place local to me that we could eat out at on a Tuesday evening While it took us a moment to park and figure out where the place was, through a side door and up a narrow staircase, what we were met with was a quiet, homely but fantastic little place with amazing food and service. While the tables were quite small for the food we ordered, just the 3 of us, everything was beautifully presented and most importantly delicious. I will certainly be coming back at some point.

It was my first time to order takeaway from Jhakhas and my experience was somewhat below standard of Indian food. My first 5 second of entering into reception and two waiters looked at me and greeted me with strange look. Firstly I ordered Tandoori Half Chicken. It was expecting half chicken but it was just two chicken legs and taste was very dull and bland but red colouring. It comes with tiny salad container which look like dumped some green leaves. Cheese naan was not worth for that price. I was trying to order through online but somehow i could not. So i ordered through phone. To my surprise they offered me 15% discount but if online ordered then 20%. Lastly, purely on food quality, Will I order again. NO.

Had a takeaway delivered last night and the curries were fantastic. They were all extremely tasty especially the garlic chilli chicken and the goan fish. The only issue was the handle of the brown bag which it was delivered in broke which meant the bag dropped on the floor. Luckily there was only minor loss of curry from the containers. I will certainly being ordering from here again and recommending to my friends and family.

We ordered 3 curries - korma, tikka masala and a makhani and they were all awful! It’s like they had forgotten the spices, everything just tasted of nothing but salt. The tikka was just a salt sauce with no marinade, no spices it was just strange. The korma was way too sweet but again had no flavour but sugar. The makhani was just odd and tasted like Campbell’s soup! There’s no way it’s edible and we’ve had to order something else because it was all just awful.

We have been going to the place for a long time since they opened. Had a take away for us both and a friend. I don't know how to explain but it's like home made food. No grease or fat . Oh my it gets better and better. WOW I think is the word. Love you guys.

Just a warning about using Uber Eats app. For this restaurant.Tracking app was great, but the warning signs were there when the app said delivery vehicle was a bike. 3 full Indian meals stone cold. Too cold to re-heat even. You can't complain via the phone and the app only let's you rate your order. ie Food and money lost. Restaurant itself were sorry, but its not their fault. Delivering food on a bike when its 6-7 degrees outside is a new kind of stupidity. At the end of the day I lost my evening and the money. Uber eats at fault however Restaurant should follow this up and the customer should not go without.

I was in Nottingham area and looking for authentic Indian food. Had delicious, mouth-watering, tasty food. It was really awesome and ambiance was fabulous. Bole to totally "jhakhas". Would love to be there again when around Nottingham.

In a party of four they completely forgot my starter then gave me the wrong main and claimed it was my ordered madras when it was clearly a massala... Everyone else's food was good

I don’t like leaving bad reviews, especially for small, local businesses but... We had a take away and it was poor. Very poor. Good points: Friendly driver On time Arrived hot Rice and naan was nice Bad points: The Bhuna was inedible. It was so salty and the sauce looked and tasted like it was out of a very cheap jar. No sign of any fresh ingredients at all, no fresh tomatoes, no coriander - just salty, bland mush! The Korma was average at best. Again I have had better jars. It was bland and unappealing. We are not overly fussy but have eaten a lot of curries from lots of different places and the bhuna was the worst curry I have ever had anywhere. Not what you expect from a restaurant. Plus it was fairly expensive for what we had. Maybe they were having a bad night, but would not want to risk ordering again as it was a costly meal when a whole main went in the bin and the rest was not overly enjoyable. Felt very disappointed and ripped off. Food of that poor quality and taste should never leave the kitchen, let alone be charged for. Such a shame as we tried them based on reviews and we wanted to order and support a local business rather than ordering from our usual in Heanor. Sorry Jhakhas but we won’t be back or recommending.

I Think We’ve just found our favourite Indian restaurant and dish.. we have tried so many different restaurants and loved them all but omg this was by far my favourite, I had the garlic chilli chicken curry, rice and chilli cheese nan. The curry was just like my favourite curry that I have in the beach shack when I go to goa! Very impressed, will definitely be ordering the same again soon

We went mid-week and were persuaded to try this restaurant due to the reviews. Unfortunately, it did not live up to the hype - the food was bland to put it mildly. A biryani looked nothing like it should - it was literally a load of rice with a few bits of meat and some orange coloured 'sauce' to pour over the top. It was really really noisy as well - really high ceilings so it was really amplified which meant all the diners were talking louder and louder to make themselves heard. Whilst the staff were wearing masks, the tables weren't spaced out to facilitate social distancing. The staff were lovely and acommodating but unfortunately that doesn't make up for bland food. We wont be going back there again, that's for sure. If you want a decent curry in Ilkeston that is half the price and twice the flavour, go to Radhunis!

We were asked to leave! Food was good, however! service is much Better in McDonald’s! we were rushed in and out faster than dose of salts! After arriving and being told they didn’t have a booking for us they eventually decided we weren’t lying and we had booked a table! We were sat down and ignored for half an hour and then asked if we wanted to order a drink. We then ordered our starters and mains which to be honest were very nice but within a very short time we were asked to leave! And just ordering another bottle of wine, the table was apparently needed for other customers. I have never experienced such ignorance in any establishment anywhere in my life. Bunch of wa**kers! We asked for a discount as they knew they were in the wrong by over booking and still they refused. Never ever ever ever again! Worst restaurant experience I have ever had without a doubt.

We have ordered from here a handful of times and eaten in the restaurant on valentines week,they truly are great,staff are so friendly and it’s the only curry meal we choose to eat .o recommend this place to be visited or takeaway at home.truly beautiful flavoursome dishes :)

A fantastic restaurant, the service was excellent and the food was delicious. The naans are perfect, light, crispy and tasty. We all enjoyed our started and mains, we cannot wait to try more of their dishes on offer.

Walking up the stairs starts this wonderful journey. Clean, tidy and Indian; how refreshing for Ilkeston, a Quality establishment.The restaurant itself confirms the quality feel with modern Indian artifacts well placed. You can tell the owner once worked at a Marriott, he has brought that quality feel to this business.The menu is traditional Indian cuisine and reminded me of my trip to Mumbai. A menu unusual for the UK. The service was exceptionally good and the food exquisitely. It relaxed me after a long day. Most importantly, my tummy felt good afterwards, many UK curries do not sit well with me. It you want quality food, good service in a nice ambiance, you should try this restaurant

What a great find. My wife and I were wanting a meal out locally and I found this restaurant on Google Maps by chance. Am I glad I did!! The welcome was great, the service excellent, the food lovely. We were really pleased with our experience and will definately be back another time. I'm really happy we have such a nice place so close to home.

Love this place. The staff can't do enough for you from the moment you walk in. Food is lovely and the presentation is something you would expect from a high dinning experience. The Aloo Chaat starter was worth the visit alone

Called in by chance for a quick bite to eat with my son. Food was fantastic and a real good price too. Definitely will be back, now we’ve found it. Worth a visit if you have not been.

Attended with my girlfriend on a busy Saturday night. Food was excellent, drinks were lovely and the staff were amazing! We will definitely return! I had Chicken Tikka Shashlik for starter and Lamb Rogan Josh with Keema Naan and Keema Rice. It was beautifully presented and tasted amazing. I can't recommend this restaurant enough! Looking forward to our next visit!

We had been recommended to come here and we're are so glad we did. The waiter was very attentive but not pushy and also made a dish not on the menu. The food was very tasty. I had chicken bhuna one of my favourite dishes and cash honestly say one of the best I have had. We will definitely go back.

Our son was recommended to come here so we all went the other evening. The food really was good. My husband asked if a passanda could be made as it wasn't on the menu and was no problem at all. The cheese and garlic Mann was one of the best I have ever tasted. We will definitely go back and very soon.

We booked a meal here for my partners Birthday. We decided to book from all the amazing word of mouth reviews we’d heard since the restaurant opened. The restaurant itself was lovely, nicely decorated and the tables wasn’t crammed in like a lot of places. The place was relatively empty when we attended and the staff were incredibly attentive and helpful however I’m sure this would be the same if the restaurant was busier also. The food quality was outstanding, great portion size and flavourings. Slightly on the pricey side but overall it was worth it for the meal and the overall experience.

We visited Jhakhas just before Christmas and were very impressed by the friendly welcome and service.My favourite curry, Pasanda, was not on the menu. I asked if they could do this dish and the chef was happy to prepare it for me.The entire meal was delicious and we will definitely return! Excellent!

There can't be many Indian restaurants i haven't dined at within the area. I have to say Jhakhas is up there with the best of them. A warm welcome and really great food. "I'll be back!"

The service in this place is amazing, everyone is so friendly and welcoming! Honestly the young lad that works there couldn't do enough for us. Place is clean, but a little cold. Walking in you would expect authentic Indian cuisine. Unfortunately what really lets the place down is the food, all of our currys came out the same- a basic tomato base with some garlic and chilli thrown in. Honestly the price point does not justify the food received, and there was really nothing authentic about it. Very bland and felt cheaply produced. Sorry but we won't be coming back.

I was gobsmacked by the delicate precision that was my food came with. The food was made with love and passion, something you'll not find in many restaurants these days. The staff welcomed me as soon as I entered the restaurant and continued to make me feel at home throughout my stay. The food really took me back to my young days in India as it perfectly matched some of India's finest cuisines. This is an amazing pace and I would recommend any family, couple or single to come. It i perfect for any age group and any taste as I can guarantee great customer satisfaction.

Just by chance we came upon this lovely place. Great food nice ambience and exceptional staff. Nice to be served by a PhD student in waiting showing family loyalty makes for a great business.

Lovely food, extremely tasty and naan breads to die for but the decor was just so sad and dated. White tables with really horrible sticky plastic placemats. With a bit of a decor overhaul this place could look as nice as the food tasted.

First time here and we loved it. Yes smaller portions than usual but very tasty and with popadoms and naans there was enough to eat. Staff efficient and friendly. Messed up a couple of times and brought us some freebys to make up. Definitely going back great meal friendly staff what more can ask for at the price which was good value for money.
