Jennys Fish and Chips in Harrogate

We have always used this fish and chip shop, it's always been fabulous, but tonight was a massive disappointment, the fish was thin and the batter was greasy and soggy , the chips were the worse chips iv ever had , pale and greasy 😢 obviously the oil was not hot enough and everything had soaked up the oil , I could not eat the chips they were awful, won't be going again

It’s been a while since I last visited this chippy, today was a massive disappointment compared to earlier visits. The fish is now flat and small, no longer deep and doesn’t fall apart like before, I suspect it’s frozen and and arrives prepped. The batter used to be crispy and textured now it’s soggy and doesn’t stick to the fish but clings to chips and box. The chips are no longer crispy with fluffy inside instead being soggy pale and barely cooked ( I have had better supermarket frozen chips). I know everything costs more these days but the value today was just abysmal, I would rather pay a little more and have the standards before. I won’t be visiting again ever which is a shame because for the last five years it was great, such a shame. On a positive note the curry was good.

I’m really sorry to send this review as I have used this f and c shop for years never disappointed my food was cold chips awful and fish slimey and didn’t didn’t smell great We normally have to share chips between three but today not enough for two so you have clearly started giving alit less for same money Very very disappointing and ended up having no tea pop

Went at 6pm which you’d assume they’d have everything on the menu. No fish cakes and no large sausages. Not apologetic, was told they had just what you can see. Won’t be using again.

Personally I think this is the best chippy in Harrogate, the food is always cooked fresh to order and very tasty

Sadly shocking tonight. I was there a year orso ago and it was great. Not tonight ... If the temperature had been turned up properly on the fryer might well have been good. Boiled and flabby- both fish and chips. Our nearest Drakes on Knaresborough Road now shut- wasn't reliable but ok. Search for a decent take away chippy nearby continues.

The wharfe was the best fish & chips in harrogate bar none, went on Friday very very poor quality and portion size will not be returning again . Was told after asking if fish sizes have changed and was told its been taken over . Bye bye awful .Jeff.

Had this fish n chips fortnighly for the last 12 mths (has ownership changed?) the last 3 visits they have steadily got worse. Poor quality, chips especially...shall not be coming again

Used to be the best chippie around but since change of ownership gone down hill Bought FnC 27/06 for the England match Lazy man's chips which were uncooked and soggy and fish lacking batter and tasteless. Sorry to say but won't be returning until improvement is made

I had Fish n Chips a few weeks ago from here and they were great. This evening they were awful - the fish batter was under fried & stodgy, the chips were dry, poorly skinned and had a horrible cheesy tang to them. I hope The Wharfe gets back to those high standards of a few weeks back.

Take away 20/6/2024. Been there few times and was happy with the Fish and Chips. Sadly, based on my last visit the food was poor. Poorly peeled soggy Chips, tiny Fish. What's happened. Nowhere near as good as "The Wharfe" in Otley.

Just had the worst meal from the Wharf - having used this location since it was Jennys. Portion sizes have been reduced - fish and chips, not as well cooked. We'd ordered "well cooked" and that wasn't what was delivered. This is a location that has historically been the best in the area. V disappointed.

Went for fish and chips last night the 16th of May 2024 . Got home and found the order was wrong and chips not cooked! I called the shop the phone just rang and rang no answer. Used this shop on a regular basis for years and last night was the last time.

Quick chippie tea for 3. More like quick chippie snack. 2 x large chips, bread bun and a burger. Don't get me wrong the food was OK....not great but the portion size. What has happened? 2 chips used to feed 3 of us quite comfortably but what I got today was ridiculous 2 boxes not even half full it's asif they forgot to put the other scoops in, that might be due to the fact that they were all talking amongst them selves. They were not paying any attention to the customers stood waiting to order. I even had to ask for them to hand my dinner over as the guy was stood chatting to another member of staff whilst holding my order. Pitty I can't attach a picture.

Was told about this place 3yrs ago.. ket trying to get there and was disappointed with everywhere else.. finally 2 weeks ago managed it and again 1 hr ago. Amazing fish, large pure white tasty as hell, chips crunchy outside fluffy inside , nothing greasy or untasteful. Without a doubt the best fish and chips in Harrogate. The staff where all friendly and quick to attend to my order. Presentation in a box was helpful and less hassle than wrapping paper. If your passing please give this place a try,they deserve our custom.

Great place to get fish and chips! First time I have visited and I was not disappointed. The lady who served us was polite and friendly and food cooked to order. Food was piping hot and absolutely delicious Will definitely be visiting again.

Went in a couple of weeks ago, ordered the "Special" Fish, it turned out to been 2 fish? Had chips with that. The fish was greasy as were the chips, they are NOT being fried at the right temperature. Why are they using a stupid batter? It does not work at low temperatures. Lesson: 1. A "Batter" is to protect the fish inside and allow it steam itself to optimum full flavour and firmness. My first and last visit! Have been to the Wharfe in Otley a couple of times... no problems.

Hands down the best thing to happen to Harrogate, best fish and chips, huge portions and really decent prices to. My number one chippy to go to and I highly recommend trying it out. My friends have and they don't go anywhere else now.

Always stop off here on my way home from working at local racecourses .. after 9 hours on my feet to have,such great food before my journey home . Amazing fish n chips The best I have tasted Medium haddock , chips, and a bread roll.. .. not cheap but reasonable and the potions are very generous . Proffessional fish fryer to who is in full control and great staff..

Just been to The Wharfe tonight due to the gas problems on Jennyfield and I have to say the staff we’re excellent. The girl taking the orders was extremely friendly, welcoming and offered excellent service to all even though they were extremely busy. Thank you to all the staff working tonight

Food was nice but I was wearing a mask and still asked to wait outside even though there was no one in the shop. None of the three servers had a mask and one girl had hair falling all over her shoulders that she was repeatedly touching before packing my food. Utterly unhygienic practise.

Pately Bridge is good but this is even better. Very large fish and cooked to perfection. Huge portions of chips. Stay away unless you are really hungry. 2 large fish an share a huge chips for £11. What's not to like!!

Usually great Fish, but sometimes the chips can be a bit soft or the mushy peas slightly watery. The service is great and I'm just being a moaning Yorkshireman!!!

Absolutely love the fish and the chips here. Been a few times now. Got a Special fish for £6.80 and large chips for £2.50 - feeds me and my wife easily, and we are 'decent eaters' The portions are impressive and the quality is very good. Definitely recommend.

Went for a Chip butty. Simple food but was a massive portion. Really good value for money as well. The bread was nice and soft and the chips were cooked right, not soggy or too crispy which was nice. Paid contactless and was nice to see a rule of 2 people at one time during these covid-19 times. Appreciated the safety. Happily go back and try the fish and chips as a meal option next time. Have a suspicious feeling that the oil used is not vegetable oil and is beef dripping. Would be nice if there was an option

Called into The Wharfe yesterday evening for fish and chips on the way home from work. Although the shop appeared to be busy the wait wasn’t too long and the staff seemed to handle the ‘two customers at one time’ rule fault well. The food itself was fantastic, good portion size and the best chips I’ve had in a very long time. I will certainly be back soon.........

More than 2 persons in shop at a time . Some staff not wearing face coverings . Brought this to there attention, i was advised if not happy then dont use the shop. Not a problem . 👌

Ordered a large fish and chips and a small sausage and chips with scraps on both and she put salt and vinegar on both when I asked for salt only on the fish which I didn't realise until I got them home. came away with a large fish with no chips and 2 small sausages and chips which she charged me £9.20 for when I saw on the till it said £8 something. I've tried ringing the number but it's not recognised. I also attempted to pay with contactless due to covid19 but she said it was money only. also the guy at the back that was doing the cooking wasn't wearing a face mask. I thought I'd give this place a chance seeing as jennyfield fisheries around the corner from the co-op was closed which is our usual, I regret the decision entirely. Waste of time and money and won't be returning.
