Ok so even Jean-George’s has off days. Our visit in April was disappointing, no ifs no buts. After a frank discussion with Mate V, the excellent Deputy Restaurant Manager, we have been back not once but twice and I can say that our socks were literally blown off on both those occasions. On our visits we had the swordfish Milanese, the Parmesan crusted chicken, the truffle cheeseburger, the sea bass and all were just outstanding. On our second / third visit our son had the 6-course menu to celebrate his 18th birthday and his verdict was: spectacular ! As for desserts the deceptively designated “strawberry” is a sensory experience for the tastebuds whilst the citrus candy floss spoilt us for a very long time. For afters, we HIGHLY recommend a glass of the Szamorodni tokaji which the brilliant Senior Sommelier Bernardin introduced us to: like everything in the menu it is not cheap but totally worth it, and more. M. Vongerichten has an amazing outpost in London and Restaurant Manager Marco a phenomenal service team (with special shout out to Santos). PS: You simply MUST follow the chef’s recommendations on meat cooking as it is simply perfect.

Very disappointing! We wanted breakfast but were told it was too late. A couple sat down after us and were served breakfast. We both ordered a salad, diet coke, and a cup of coffee. The salad was spring mix with shrimp. I love a good restaurant and do not mind paying for it but 280 pounds for our meal was outrageous! I have been to a few Jean-Georges restaurants here in the United States. They were disappointing as well.

From the moment we sat down it felt uncomfortable. We asked our waiter about another area of the hotel and his response was "You're at Jean George"??? Yes, we knew where we were. He obviously had trouble understanding English. It never recovered from that simple question. The service was poor and our waiter never returned to our table after taking our order. The four waiters did however manage to stand together and talk amongst themselves while ignoring us. There was only two other tables in the entire restaurant. We ended up completing our table service with what appeared to be the busboy. It's sad that they would represent a restaurant of this stature with such poor service. My wife was so upset she actually called the hotel and spoke to the restaurant manager to explain to them her disappointment. But it was to no avail, the restaurant manager didn't seem to care. A wonderful restaurant with great food with such amateurs working in it.. Very sad!

Wow! What an amazing experience! We started with the tuna tartare and the crispy salmon sushi. They were so fresh and absolutely delicious. The black truffle pizza was incredible! We had the herb crusted salmon and the Parmesan crusted chicken for main. The potato wedges were incredible! If only I had more room, I could have eaten so many more!! 🤣 The broccoli was so tasty as were the shiitake mushrooms. . Dessert again was incredible. We had the mille feuille (again, so amazing, the caramelised pecans added another dimension to the dish) and the cherry and black sesame tart. We were served petits fours. They were rich and chocolatey followed by their new signature blend of tea! What an incredible finale to what was an unforgettable dining experience! Our thanks go to the efficient and attentive staff who enhanced our dining experience, making it all the more memorable. Would we visit again? Absolutely! We can’t wait to return to try some of the other incredible looking dishes on the menu. Thank you!

At first appearance everything is there to make our visit an evening to remember: great decor in one of the world’s legendary hotel names and amongst the most friendly staff on the planet. Unfortunately as you sit down it dawns on you that the comfortable looking armchairs and low tables are, in fact, going to make eating a meal a somewhat less than pleasant time. The menu reads ok, with pricing to match the location (and London’s reputation as one of the most overpriced city on earth to eat out), which I don’t even mind. Where I do draw the line however is at the appalling execution of the dishes: the criminally overcooked sea bass with an exceedingly peppery skin tastes quite indescribable whilst the mash potatoes literally begs for the mere thought of butter or cream. I just didn’t have the heart to prolong the experience with desserts. The whole affair was seriously underwhelming and literally saved by the staff’s attitude. Jean-Georges - if I may be so bold as to call you by your first name - if you somehow do read this review I suggest you jump on a plane and come and salvage the aura attached to your name (as evidenced by your New York restaurants) ASAP.

Champagne afternoon tea at the Connaught. Would I recommend? Mmmmm, it was ok.....unremarkable, distinctly average given the cost. We were seated promptly, then approached by no less than 3 waiters over tke next 20 minutes or so taking our drinks and tea orders then nothing.....we waited.....and waited. when eventually the champagne arrived it was good. The tea was nice but let's face it, it's tea. The sandwiches came up on our own individual plates and were well, ok. The bread was like supermarket sliced bread, really nothing special and the fillings didn't have a whole lot of flavour. The scones were warm and were good. The other pastries weren't very inspiring. There was a young toddler running around the whole time dropping scones everywhere (not the fault of the staff but you would think they'd ask the mother to contain him). The tables were all very crammed in and the whole thing just seemed very busy. Would I go back? No

Invited here for the Valentines afternoon tea, we both felt it was not as good as in other hotels. Firstly, the tables are squashed together, and you feel on top of the next guests. No privacy. The room layout, table setting, crockery are all disappointing. I think it looked like IKEA. Pretty pastries, basic sandwiches, nothing to make you think wow what an experience. Other places have more finesse and create a superior experience. It's all about the details and feels like not much thought has gone into the style here. Good service.

I have gone to the Jean-George at the Connaught frequently over the last few weeks with clients from out of town. While the food and drink selection is great and the setting impressive, what stood out to us the most was the incredible staff. Everyone from the waitstaff to management were incredible, accommodating and welcoming. My special thanks to Vincenzo, Martina, Fabrizio and Edward who all always went above and beyond to make our visits special. They exceeded my expectations and we will definitely be back.

We went here for high tea. As Americans really no concept of this but wow. What a way better mid afternoon tradition than a siesta. The restaurant is very nice/contemporary. Service was top notch. Everyone gets to choose which tea and champagne they'd like. The "tray" of sandwiches and sweets/cakes available was superb. I wish I had one of those sandwiches now!

Afternoon tea on New Year’s Day. Warm welcome and taken swiftly to our table. Comfortable seating and table presented well. The first food was brought to the table with no explanation as to what it was. We did wait a while for our chosen tea which arrived after the sandwiches and half way through the pastries and cakes. In total we were served by 5 different members of staff who seemed a little busy on the day. We had to ask for additional tea which we didn’t expect we would have to do. Overall an enjoyable experience, but a little disappointing compared to other 5 star hotels in the city.

I had seabass as my main course. Menu promised it in herb crust, but it arrived in a crust of black pepper which was so strong that it completely overpowered the fish and I could not taste what I was eating. Desert (pear tart) was much nicer. Friendly and attentive service, but poor lighting, I don't like to dine in semi-darkness. Also tables are not very comfy, too low and little leg room. Overall, I felt the food was very overpriced for its quality. Will not go there again.

For my birthday gift in July, my husband pre-paid for an afternoon tea in anticipation of us visiting in September. We arrived for our tea and had excellent service, the actual tea bites were average compared to other teas we have experienced over the years in London, but the ambiance was nice and we enjoyed our rainy afternoon there. They didn't bring a bill and said we were good to go. The problem was that we found we were billed again on our credit card in September. My husband has been trying to deal with getting credit for a double billing since we got home in October, we still haven't seen a credit to our account. I would not recommend pre-payment if you would like to experience their afternoon tea. I would have given it 4 stars if not for the hassle of the double billing.

Visited for afternoon tea. Overall disappointing. Interior needs an urgent upgrade, very tatty stained furnishings. There is no ambience, crockery, cutlery all straight out of IKEA. I looked and the afternoon tea here is actually more expensive than say the Corinthia which is soooo much better than here. 2 of us had the gluten free afternoon tea and the scones were awful, clearly made some time before we arrived and disintegrated upon touch. If you are charging nearly £100 per person for tea and scones you need to out a bit of effort in to make it feel special! How hard is it!!

I recently went to the Connaught with my mother and wife to celebrate a birthday. The service was very good and the front of of team did a great job. However the food was not up to the standards and definitely not worth the money when you can honestly get better tea at Waterstones. First of all, the bread was stale. All of the sandwiches were dry on the outside. The fillings were unimaginative and not what you would expect from a restaurant with a Michelin star in one of the worlds grandest hotels. I understand the “nod to tradition” but honestly these could have been bought from sainsburys. The cucumber sandwich was dry, had huge thick slabs of cucumber, and just wasn’t very nice. All the other teas I have been too at grand hotels make an effort to make the sandwiches more interesting. The scones - they were good, although the brown bread scones were not as good and perhaps there would be a good place to stick with tradition. The serving of jam and cream for three people was also quite stingy, and certainly not indulgent as you might expect for £400. The cakes - a couple of them were good, but the other two were so so. I had a feeling that the pastry chef may not have been there that day and they just did whatever was easiest. The small tart with blueberries for example can be found in any patisserie in London and the chocolate muffin was a bit dry. All in all, it was quite disappointing experience, particularly as it was a family occasion. I don’t think I would go back, but would stick to the Savoy or Claridges. A shame.

We went for afternoon tea as a birthday treat. We could not fault the service and the food was nice, altho I wouldn’t be rushing back for it again. The problem was the ambience. It was loud and almost raucous, with jeans and T-shirts in evidence more than once, however expensive they may have been! It did not feel like the special, refined occasion that afternoon tea is in other places, which is a shame.

The tea room at The Connaught is beautiful, and the people-watching is fun. Clearly a destination for first-class travelers. The finger sandwiches and scones were delicious. The pastries looked better than they tasted. The aspect that was lacking was the Service. For $100+ per person for tea...we would have expected exceptional service, and it was average. Our first choice was to go to The Ritz or Claridges for tea, but they were booked. Next time we will be better organized, skip The Connaught, and make our reservations at one of those hotels in advance.

I’ve enjoyed a pleasant afternoon in the company of my mum. who was visiting London and wanted to experience the traditional British high tea ceremony. The quality of sandwiches, scones and cookies was excellent and the service efficient and professional. However the space of Jean- Georges restaurant where the afternoon tea is served felt a bit cramped and was definitely too stuffy - I felt it was not well air conditioned or simply lacked fresh air as we visited on very sunny and warm day. Having the sun shining directly over us as we sat under a glass roof was a bit uncomfortable and felt overheated. The place is rather small and at full capacity feels busy and crowded. Nevertheless the whole gourmet experience was positive and we left in good spirits.
