Jayjays @ The Beach Cafe in Great Yarmouth

We love to come to JJ’s when we visit Gorleston-on-Sea and unfortunately the only reason we have dropped a star off is because on our last few visits the fish and chips / hot food have been served up on stone cold plates. There is nothing worse than putting hot food on cold plates as it goes cold so quickly. unfortunately that has made us think twice about coming again as cold fish and chips are not the nicest. It’s a small oversight that makes a big impact to the enjoyment of the customer eating their food and we know we’re not the only ones who’ve noticed this as we have often overheard people commenting who are sitting there by. So JJs come on it’s a small thing having hot plates for hot food So fingers crossed, this can be rectified.

Having visited this cafe for a few years I was very disappointed that yesterday I was served butter on my toast with the hot smoked salmon and poached eggs which the girl on the till had said she’d put it on the order No Butter/Cheese I was gagging before I left and couldn’t finish the breakfast I have a severe allergy to butter & cheese (physically sick) we left and I was poorly for the rest of the day! I called today and got a sorry. Please be careful with Allergies!

Had a tasty meal deal here today. Gish chips. Peas and a pot of tea £20 was a real treat. This cafe is very clean, and the staff friendly. Plenty of seating inside and our with lovely sea views. We will certainly return when in the area, to try the delicious cakes, which are in abundance and very tempting.

Had an excellent fish and chip and peas meal at Jay Jay's beach cafe, and a wonderful deal of 2 for £20 Inc pot of tea ( only on fridays ). Quality of food was excellent and service very fast and efficient, Well done to all.

Came here after parkrun for coffee and cake and there was a large amount of us, and the girl serving us was so rude to us and the children. We normally come here often but this experience has put us off. She seemed young and it was a massive shame.

While on holiday in Gorleston on Sea we walked along the promenade quite a few times and stopped here every time for cappuchinos and to sit and people watch. There are a lot of seats inside and out so the choice is yours - drinks are varied, food available and reasonable priced too. Staff very friendly and do not pressure you to move once finished eating and drinking - a lovely place to while away the time. Would recommend this place to everyone.

We thought it would be a nice treat to take our children for cake. It was grim. The scones were dry and stale, my daughter’s strawberry cake tasted like a cheap frozen gateaux and the staff were incredibly rude and abrupt when we ordered. We visited on a Friday and there were several people taking advantage of a fish and chips offer. The lady at the table next to us queried something when she was given her order and the next minute someone was screaming from the kitchen area that they’d got what they ordered and shouldn’t be moaning! I don’t want to hear that whilst also being bombarded with hostile signs everywhere saying stand here, don’t queue inside for the toilet, etc. This is not conducive to a relaxing environment. Having now read other reviews I can see that staff rudeness is a long running issue which clearly needs to be addressed. Such a beautiful location, it’s a shame it’s being spoilt by poor customer service and poor quality food.

Myself and my husband tried this place again today after a bad experience here in the autumn when a gentleman who we assumed was the owner was very rude when telling us where to queue. We were ordered around in a very hostile manner and whistled at so he could point out where we should stand. We gave them the benefit of the doubt and tried again for coffee and cake today. Mistake! The waitress was very impatient, rude and sullen. We felt like we were being an inconvenience to her just by being there. Very expensive for ok coffee and soggy cake. Won't be going back!

Came here last Friday on the recommendation of a friend along with our younger daughter and her partner (both of whom are vegan). Very busy, perhaps because it is their 'Fish Friday' whereby they offer fish and chips and a pot of tea for 2 for £20. It being a beautifully warm spring day we sat at one of the tables outside overlooking the beach. They have an extensive specials board but my husband and I opted for the chilli and cheese on jacket. Portions were very generous, chilli very tasty and it came with a very large side salad. Vegan options were limited however staff were very accommodating and did a large 'breakfast' panini for our sin-in-law accompanied by a portion of hash browns whilst my daughter opted for a toasted vegan sausage sandwich. There was also an amazing selection of cakes (which did include plenty of vegan options) for those just wishing to have coffee and a cake, unfortunately we did not have the room to sample. Staff were very friendly. We will certainly visit again and would not hesitate to recommend.

Food arrived cold and staff were rude. How can you get cheesy beans on toast wrong? Wouldn't step foot in the place again.

After waiting for 50 mins for sausage bap and other customers who were after me getting food - no apology , just rudeness and don’t you know we are busy , and the member of staff waving her hands in aggressive way in my face . I was on my own with my dog , which made it even more difficult. I have a number of holidays let’s and will be making an point to tell them NOT to visit this arrogant business due to fact the thing the have a captive audience on the beach they thinks it’s ok to treat customers like that - not nice , all they need to say was sorry for the wait and issue the refund hope to see you again , sorry goes along way but yes I got a refund but felt really upset of the aggressive way staff member waved her hands in my face . Honestly the worst service award for years taking no accountability goes to Jay Jay today

Miserable lot they take no account of a single person with a dog who wants a coffee. I was ignored as I could not got in the notice said no dogs no skateboards but they allowed prams and smelly screaming babies

This café is situated half way along the promenade, which is convenient when doing a walk from Hopton to Gorleston. It has a huge variety of food, both hot and cold. We went for a cheese scone and piece of cake. The scone was homemade, full of cheese and mustard which tasted delicious. My coconut raspberry cakes was fresh and tasty. Prices are very expensive and service is slow, as one experienced lady was barking orders at the young girls behind the counter. A nice place to go for a treat.

Stopped for a coffee and a bite to eat/late lunch whilst having a stroll along the beach/prom. Highly recommended. Food service was quick and portion size was great, although had thought food was pricey until saw how much they put on the plates ! Food was nice as was the coffee. Will definitely be stopping in again.

Had good promise but sadly the food wasn’t great. Poached egg on toast with crispy bacon was more crispy eggs with poached bacon. If there was any butter on the toast it was minimal. The bacon had rubber band fat and the poached eggs were well and truly over done! Toast was so hard I couldn’t eat most of it especially with the plastic knife and fork. Other half had Sausage bap was ok but again minimal if any butter. Cappuccino and black americano was nice tho!

Visited this cafe a few times now. Decided to have breakfast here instead of at our budget hotel. The weather was good so eating outside was ideal. The staff were great, friendly and helpful. The breakfast wrap was excellent, packed with sausage, bacon, egg, mushrooms, hash brown with a side of beans. Sausage and egg bap for my wife also great. Good tea as well. (A lot of negative comments on here about food served in cardboard trays with disposable cutlery. We are all entitled to personal views but for me it is sensible given that if a piece of crockery gets broken outside, it could be very nasty for the many walkers, children and dogs using the promenade. )

Was really lovely, very quick service, had Cromer crab salad. Delicious. Will definitely go again soon.

Situated at the quieter end of the beach , the section you can walk dogs on during the high season , we were amazed at the great choice of food available and just how tasty it looked. As it was not a specialist Fish & Chip eatery we took a chance ordering the haddock & chips . This generous portion was not only beautifully presented with the finest tartar sauce I've had in ages but also had a large fresh crisp side salad . The fresh tasting fish was in super light batter and the chunky chips were cooked to perfection, crisp non greasy outside and soft and fluffy inside. At £13 for a portion that we could not finish it was great value , we'd have paid more in London for far less without the garnish . The staff were super friendly and helpful. The other diners food looked just as tasty . I'd recommend this eatery to anyone and an added bonus is loads of free parking at this end of the beach . We returned for an ice cream , for which they had a fine selection and some fresh squeezed orange juice a couple of hours later

Great tasty lunch, loved my fish and the kids had delicious cakes for dessert. Owner was present and seemed to be very attentive to local customers. We went with friends who are local and will definitely visit again. Plus the view was great too great food by the beach.

Jay Jays has always been a great place to eat for locals and holiday makers with great food but recently the quality has changed and is now a disappointment. What a stupid idea it is to serve the food in cardboard boxes with plastic spoons instead of proper china plates and dishes with proper cutlery like they have always done. I also noticed that a lot of things are no longer on the menu I’m guessing because they cannot be served in cardboard boxes. I don’t expect to eat food that’s now quite expensive from a cardboard box. I’m a local and I don’t like to feel I’ve been ripped off.

Little gem of a place .. beach is just perfect for dogs & the food was amazing and scrumptious.. had Cromer crab salad & a ploughman’s .. box filled to the brim .. only thing could fault no bread with ploughman’s .. dogs loved it water bowls and kind of a doggie meet & greet .. friendly staff & the most beautiful view .. will be back! 👍🏻

I reckon I'm a bit of a scone expert, and the scones served here were amongst the best I've ever had. Large, soft, freshly baked with more than enough butter, cream and jam. The other cakes were equally good according to my friends.
