I recommend a place with delicious coffee and cookies. A cafe located practically in the center of Chester. Very nice service and atmosphere in the place. It's not expensive. Everyone will find something for himself. You can also easily recharge electronic equipment on site, e.g. a phone or a laptop.

Okay, Jaunty goat has the best cup of coffee in Chester, by a country mile. I’ve always thought that one cup of coffee should be much like another, they all come from a coffee machine after all and how much better can beans really be? Well don’t underestimate the competence and good practice of your barista and the difference in quality of the beans, it all conspires to make a superior cup of coffee. Jaunty goat clearly take pride in their work, the food & cakes are excellent and staff polite and friendly. There is a kind of hipster, trendiness to the whole place which should be irritating, like being mildly patronised when brought a cup of tea and asked… “have you had tea before?” While being shown how to remove the strainer and enjoy. But I found it quite sweet and innocently delivered by the server so I guess I’m just being a surly old so n so! Very good place, I don’t care that a small latte is relatively expensive because frankly, it’s worth it for the quality.

Lovely cafe. We stopped for tea / coffee and cake before heading back to our hotel. Friendly staff, quick service, very nice decor. We didn’t feel, however, that we were getting value for money with regard to what we received for the cost. For example £8.40 for two pieces of cake, one of which was particularly small and seemed like an off-cut.

Love this place, the decor and the vibe are very on trend. Bench seating and plenty of it I had the seasonal porridge which was delicious and a huge portion that kept me full all day, The best oat flat white I’ve ever had, all the staff I interacted with were friendly and very good at their job. Didn’t have a cake, but they looked great, not sure if there were many gluten free cakes. The only thing I noticed that others might not like, if you’re not a regular you might not notice this place is entirely plant based, and something like a chicken club could be mis leading as it doesn’t say “chicken substitute or something on the menu”

A turbulent experience, the café was packed, Saturday morning 10 am, not surprised. I think they are a victim of their own success, service was slow and forgetful. Coffee was nice but lukewarm, not offered sugar, it arrived after I'd finished my coffee. Given a dirty knife with my toast, toast was excellent though. An over-microwaved croissant came next, I'm sure their bakery would be mortified......... Next up our porridge which arrived cold, I wonder if the staff are so busy that the timely service of food is suffering? 2nd attempt at the porridge was much better but still suffered from slow service across the pass. The porridge was excellent, goji, spiced apple and dates syrup...... delicious. Either put on more staff, send people over to the bakery or drop your covers by a few. What should have been an excellent breakfast was tarnished by poor attention to detail.

Kala namak! Get the plant-based eggs. Kala namak will change your life. It's changed ours. As veggies trying to be more vegan, we know we'd miss scrambled eggs. Once you've tried theirs here as we did last month, you will immediately do as we did and hunt down kala namak (a big South Asian store will have it, it's also known as black salt) as it's the secret ingredient that finally transforms scrambled tofu (which I've had loads of times) into something that's genuinely better than scrambled eggs. I made it three times in 24 hours, it's so good. I returned today to the other branch (which is fully vegan) to try the original again, where they very helpfully gave me their recipe which was super similar to the one I've been using on the RainbowPlantLife website. Today I also had an excellent coconut mocha. Last time we had an incredible polenta cake. Service is sublime at both branches. Part of the reason I returned to Chester was to explore their menu further, which I'll be doing this week. It's rare that you find a place so consistently excellent. (later...) Loses a star however for cancelling my Too Good To Go order with no notice two days in a row. In four years of using TGTG this has happened to me once ever - with Jaunty Goat it's happened two days in a row. For heaven's sake don't put stuff on TGTG unless you have it available. It does tremendous damage to how your fans feel about your brand. Loses a further star for today's miserably soggy pancakes whose "seasonal fruit" consisted of rather sad-looking browned diced apple. Service today was far below other visits too. I guess it's time to leave Chester before it gets any worse. At least the vegan branch is still good.

Overpriced and not loads of choice unless you're big on carbs. Most importantly though, active discrimination against people who can't use bank cards (cafe is 'cash only'). As a charity worker, I urge this cafe and other establishments to allow cash or card payments - there are people who can't use bank cards for a variety of reasons, older people who aren't confident paying by card, people who face financial abuse by their partners and can't have their own bank cards, people who are paid cash, tourists who face bank charges to pay by card... the list goes on and on. It may seem banal, but just let people have the choice.

I´ve been here a few times since it's opened and in general if you´re just having coffee and cake you can't go wrong. All delicious. The savoury food offered is also delicious despite being a tad on the pricey side, the vegan bacon needs to be left off the eggs benedict. It ruined my lunch. Perhaps offer it with or without to keep those who like it happy. The service is slow in here and inconsistent. Please don't bring my coffee and make me wait 20 mins for my cake to arrive. The coffee isn't that hot when it reaches you so it's gone in a matter of minutes and then you need another one to wash your cake down when it finally arrives which becomes prohibitive price wise. I also dislike the fact that I have to get up to ask for sugar, or napkins or (fill in the blank). Just think through what your guests may need and provide it or ask if we need it before disappearing off into the abyss. It's frustrating! In general I do like this place and support their mission but some things do need improvement.

I tested this with the dairy version in bridge street and the vegan (oat milk) at the new vegan store in Northgate street.I was found a great little spot to read as I was solo. £27 for x2 eggs benedict, one coffee and a jug of water. If the food was decent, I wouldn't complain and I'm not usually one to leave reviews but this was that bad I felt the need. My partner and I ordered the only thing that appealed to us on the menu without realising this was a veggie cafe. The confusion probably came from the fact that it clearly states 'bacon' on the menu. The eggs benedict arrived, the poached eggs were cold (despite being on a piping hot plate) and placed on top of what can only be described as x 2 horrible substitute bacon rashers (worst thing I've ever tasted). With a scatter of spinach and a sub standard hollandaise sauce.£12 is a high price for eggs benedict and so you'd expect something really special. It was actually disgusting and I feel completely ripped off.Next time please explain to your customers that you use veggie substitutes and NOT bacon!!

I've got to be honest, I didn't know it was vegan when I walked in with my 15yo, 8yo and 2yo daughters. I was a bit hesitant, especially as a vegan friend literally eats chips, tofu and nuts! Would the kids like anything?! Would there be enough on the menu? Should we just walk out?It was too hot to go back out, so I decided to stay and I am so glad I did! It was a tad expensive , but we are in Chester and it's a coffee shop not a restaurant, so can't complain. Drinks were £2-3 each and food from the menu £6-7. All of my kids loved their food. The scrambled eggs on sourdough toast was delicious and the smallest kids portion didn't get some of the seasoning (chives?), so the 2 little ones loved it. 15yo wanted granola with a side of sourdough toast...mmmmm! Yummy.I had the French toast with coconut yoghurt and summer berry fruits. Blown away. We all tried each others and all enjoyed everyone elses.Service was happy and polite and quick. We did not eat but the vegetarian menu looked good, as did the plates of food arriving on other tables. Highly recommended

Beautiful vegetarian and vegan food. Everything’s is presented beautifully and the staff were very attentive. The tea comes on a beautiful tray with whatever milk you choose. I’d definitely recommend!

We had a breakfast in here not realising at first that it was vegan which to be honest is most definitely not my thing! That said I had delicious toasted soda bread and hubby had pancakes with yogurt. Sadly no fresh orange which I found a bit odd given I’m sure that’s vegan! It’s a niche cafe and I wouldn’t choose to return but if you’re vegan I think you’d probably love it

Loved the food (vegan ) and drinks, staff was nice and friendly. Slightly overpriced considering the small portions, yet tasty.

I have previously given the Jaunty Goat a first rate review and it was always my go to place for a coffee and lunch/snack whenever I'm in Chester. However having stopped off there on what is now a rare visit into Chester city centre I was really disappointed. The staff are lovely but the tiny cup of take away coffee was too strong and £3 seems excessive for such a small cup (if I'd have realised how small the cups are I would have asked for less espresso maybe), I got some coffee cake and a cookie for my children who were as disappointed as I was. The cake had a lovely flavour but was much too dry and the cookie was rock hard, definitely too hard to eat without risking damage to her teeth so both ended up in the bin. Such a shame as I don't know if I will returning in the future.

Brilliant coffee and service, with benches outside for a bit of people watching on our early morning while visiting this lovely city

Called here for a take out lunch to take down to the river on a very beautiful day. It is clearly a very popular place with a queue forming outside. This could have been a little more organised to keep COVID-19 safe, particularly with both the queue and scaffolding at a neighbouring building starting to block the pavement. Both the coffee and sandwiches were deliciously freshly made and I was pleasantly surprised by the choice of a vegan bacon sandwich, which was lovely. I will definitely be back.

Visited quite a few times over the last lockdowns and really enjoyed the atmosphere but the coffee is average, i’ve tasted better, the food portions are very small and not at all worth the high price. The staff are rude and pretentious, we have had problems a couple of times where our order has been wrong, and the staff act inconvenienced when we mention this, and are very rude as we try and get what we actually paid for. The staff seem more interested in gossiping behind the counter than actually caring about good customer service, and there have been times when we were ignored as we were leaving, not thanked for our custom. The food is average, portion sizes are smaller than advertised and on one occasion we actually had mould in both of our orders of toast. Such a shame because it has the potential to be a lovely coffee shop but the staff ruin it by acting as if they’re better than you and the constant messing up of our orders has just completely put us off coming back.

Visited during lockdown for a takeaway coffee and cake. The coffee comes in only one size - even smaller than the smallest typical size in Starbucks, Costa etc. Very expensive at £3, average tasting but not particularly hot. Good selection of cakes, but at £3.50 for a tiny shortbread finger I decided to pass. Do yourself a favour and try elsewhere, there's plenty of choice in Chester at much better value.

Had a lovely breakfast here yesterday. Took our almost 1 year old and they were really accommodating and had great high chairs. No kids menu but no need for one. Gorgeous coffee and food. Great covid friendly service and felt super safe. Service was impeccable :)

A cute little coffee shop, nice selection of cakes and treats. The coffees were quite small though, I was hoping for a more substantial drink for the price.

You are met with a plethora of independent coffee shops in Chester, we chose the Jaunty Goat for a brew and a cake, friendly staff, great selection of cake with plenty of options for those who want Vegan and/or gluten free. Well recommended!

Wonderful food, delicious cakes and excellent tea. Unfortunately many of the staff are cold and unwelcoming making it hard to relax and enjoy the otherwise great spot.
