I’m a regular here and it’s my favourite restaurant in Cambridge. The food and service is always 5 star! Highly recommend!

Craving sushi? This cozy lovely restaurant is a must-go for sushi lovers. We ordered the salmon crispy cheese and rainbow roll uramaki and they were both delicious. Just the right amount of sushi and rice combination and the cheese added a creamy and refreshing taste and texture! Highly recommend. We also had the unagi roll first time and was blown away. Succulent unagi with lots of sauce and cute dragon design.

I only ordered a quick takeaway, but if im being honest, the food was really nice, it was hot and tasted fresh, and it is probably the best tasting Chinese takeaway I have had in Cambridge, so far. service was quick and simple.

The atmosphere was cozy, and the food was tasty. It made for a good spot to relax and enjoy a good meal.

Great find in Cambridge! We came here randomly without a plan, and got seated straight away. They had a great selection of vegan options, and we'd be happy to come again!

First time visiting Japas and highly rate it. As a sushi lover, I’ve been on the hunt for amazing sushi restaurants since a moved to Cambridgeshire. So pleased we found this little gem!

Food was meh. It was convenient for me but there are much better places in town for quality. Threw half of it away and it was pretty expensive for what it was.

A very pleasant surprise, the outside appearance isn't great, but inside is charming, and the food is genuine and top quality, also very reasonably priced. Good service too.

The amount of food for the price felt very disappointing - it arrived just at the latest time it could be, and for 84 pounds pre discount, it felt very limited. The salmon skin sushi in particular felt inedible, and poorer in quality than we have had before.

A small family gathering of 3 generations. Delicious food, wide choices including vegan and vegetarian. The service was excellent and good humoured.

I came here for the first time with my dad today as he loves the food here. this is definitely the best jp food i've had outside from japan!!! if you are homesick you should come here. The waitress was so lovely and it was a lovely relaxed atmosphere. i can't praise it enough. thank you we will be back again soon!! :)

Good food, the usual explosion of tastes when eating well made sushi rolls. A bit more expensive than our last Sushi place but they no longer have eat in.

Wow just got my order delivered. This has to be the very worst sushi I ever had in my life. Better to have Tesco sushi. Rice was hard with no flavor and fish was of the worst quality. Cannot judge a place by reviews anymore. Yuck

An unexpected little treat near to botanical gardens and fitz William museum. Not a large venue and as just main tourist area a bit quieter. Great service and nice menu. .

Great choice for students! One of the few places in Cambridge where I could have a filling meal under £10 (and there is 10% student discount too). I had the Kimchi fried rice, but the sushi rolls on the menu also looked super appealing. Besides, the owner is very welcoming and the ambient was just right - reminds me of authentic Japanese restaurants rather than chain stores. In fact Japas was recommended to me 2 years ago, I regret not giving it a try earlier!

Sushi is OK - decent fish, hot, abundant rice. Futomakis are not great. Uramaki rolls are OK, large portions, satisfying. Nigiris are very good. Hot dishes, like salt and pepper squid, are delicious. If you can, try asking for no mayo

Small, quirky little place in a slightly hidden location but still close to central Cambridge (a short walk from the Fitzwilliam Museum). It’s excellent, really good sushi (I’d call myself reasonably knowledgeable after multiple trips to Japan and years of seeking out sushi restaurants around the world). Also great value for money. It’s worth making an effort to get to know and thank the older guy who manages Japas, especially if you plan to return.

We had a family birthday lunch here. The service is excellent and the food arrived quickly, despite ordering a large array of sushi as well as gyoza and takoyaki. All excellent. Plenty of people coming in for takeaways as it seems to be a popular choice with locals. It is away from the centre of Cambridge, where most of the restaurants are for tourists, so all good.

Very prompt and really good sushi but the app wasn’t updated as it was being prepared and delivered so was slightly concerned it wasn’t coming - but it did! :)

We had ramen and it was very nice. I saw a lot of negative reviews for customer service, but we were served by a polite (British?) gentleman and had a pleasant experience :) The atmosphere was relaxing and quiet. Would visit again!

Very good for food. The service is kind but not more professional. Tiny restaurant, booking suggested to dine in. I come back in December, definitely one of my favourite restaurant. Be carefully they close early in the evening. The fried and crunchy beef is wonderful!

Great quality of sushi and sashimi, every single piece was delicious and fresh. You can definitely tell the difference compared to ‘machine made’ and this handmade ones. The rice of sushi is really well seasoned. Salmon roe should be marinated bit more as it was not giving very strong enough flavour. Ramen was good too, nice texture of noodles and heart warming soup. Service was amazing too, the lady that served us was so kind and polite all the time, was always taking care of the table. The restaurant is not big or super comfy and the price is bit expensive but if you are looking for some good sushi I would definitely recommend here.

The staff is very friendly. The food was served nice and quite fast. We tried different things and all were tasty. Definitely will visit again.

Scallop and salmon rolls were great. I threw away the duck rolls which were substantially overcooked and tasted odd, maybe they were just the leftover bits from another batch scraped together or something

We ordered online and I had a Jo Set which was eight pieces of assorted nigiri and twelve pieces of hosomaki and this was perfect for me to have and it filled me up. It tasted very fresh and I liked that the wasabi came too, it's always good to have that with the sushi! The food arrived quickly and if I am in the area again, I'll order my sushi from here. Good value too!

Best sushi in Cambridge by far!

Mid-level option in Cambridge. Decent flavorful donburi (I ordered many duck donburi during lockdown). Large portion. For the chirashi, fish can be fresher with better cuts though. Right now it is comparable to fast food/takeaway pieces. Might come back again to try sushi or sashimi in the hope of nicer selections.

Food was pretty good - the Donburi was tasty with the rice bowl being a good size and friend fish and vegetables also a good portion, and the service was quick and friendly. The Rice cake desert is next level though! Best Mochi I’ve had in a long time!

Really disappointed. The soft shell crab costs £8 per one but it was too spicy and you couldn’t taste the crab. And Soup Udon was too salty that it looked like using soy sauce to cook only. You will definitely cook it more nice than this restaurant. If you had tried Japanese food before in Japan, you definitely won’t recommend this restaurant.

One of the best Japanese restaurants I've been to in a while. Very fresh and great quality. Price is fair. Had a lovely evening meal and will be looking to return soon hopefully.

Recently dined here with friends, personally for the price point I would prefer Sticks & Sushi (it costs an extra 15/20% but is almost 100% better in quality) The service was good, however the atmosphere could be much better - there were quite a lot of flies (small) which is a bit worrying given you are consuming raw fish. It's also quite a tight space but this is situated in Cambridge city centre Basically, would I eat here again? no

Blown away by the quality of the food here, amazing. Don't let the exterior of the building put you off this is a true hidden gem on the edge of the city centre. It's also like a TARDIS inside. All the meals (vegetarian and normal dishes)were perfectly cooked and presented, the chef is excellent. We also tried out first sparkling Sake. Good range of Japanese and far Eastern dishes for everyones palate. A very enjoyable lunch.

So this is a mixed review. The fish is easily the best that I have had in the UK. It's really, really good. Anything that is made of raw fish is delicious. (I tried the salmon and the tuna). I am not so sure about the other stuff I tried. The crispy BBQ salmon skin roll is completely unlike any other similarly named roll I have had before and the internal texture is gritty, and the ice cream has noticeable ice crystals in it. The service is great. The restaurant layout is nice. The price makes sense for the quality of the fish but otherwise I don't really think so.

A decent restaurant where I can eat multiple time, fresh Japanese food. Highly recommend uramaki menu and noodle. A combination of Japansese, Chinese in Asia flavour. Actually it is very hard to me to choose my favourite one because I can find any food for me here, from Japansese sushi, sashimi, healthy meal with salad options or noodle bowl.

Interior is not unlike any unassuming quiet calm Japanese artisan place in Osaka or Tokyo etc. Extensive menu. I could be eating here weekly for a year and still not covered all of its dishes, especially the sushi and sashimi section. Chinese influence on some Menu items. For lunch we had soft shell crabs, the sushi & sashimi bento box, and pork belly ramen in miso stock. None disappointed. Soft shell crab was lovely tempura fried. Not greasy. Tasty on a bed of salad. Bento box was super generous. Rice on the sushi was just right in texture and temperature. Ramen with pork belly… delightful. This explains why during my time there, the Deliveroo and adjust Eat orders were coming thick and fast! Sorry about the photos. I couldn’t wait to tuck in before taking them!

Bad food quality! I have ordered 3 different types of rolls All of were without taste and the rice was hard My husband ordered a sweet and sour soup (tasteless), pork ribs (very dry) with peking sauce and rice (completely dry and similar to a brick 🧱) Horrible taste, never again!

The best sushi in Cambridge and, frankly, comparable to the best anywhere. The quality of the fish is absolutely out of this world. I've eaten sushi all over the world and it rarely gets as good as this. Don't let their unassuming premises & location deceive you: Japas Sushi is a treat.

The food is great there, the atmosphere is very authentic and the people there are very nice. The man that worked there kept offering me more tea. Overall great restaurant I would definitely recommend it.

Went here for my birthday as I love sushi and Japanese food having lived in Japan for several years, so was pleased to find somewhere alleging to offer authentic food. Very disappointing; The place was empty whiich was worrying from the start. Unfriendly serving staff - service without a smile. The sushi was ok - not amazing. The oddest part however was the yakitori - yakitori is a dish made of grilled chicken k thigh/leek kebabs with yakitori sauce. What we got was pver;ly deep fried chicken in batter on sticks with sauce on top! I questioned what it was and the waitress answered that it was yakitori. I explained that this is not yakitori and what it should be. She told me, bizarrely, that people in this country like it deep fried in batter!! What?! Utter rubbish. If people in this country want deep fried chicken, they go to KFC! We were made to feel unwelcome after that and left soon afterwards. I echo the comment from previous reviewer about the rude old man who works here too. Came up against him on previous takeaway experience! Don't know what it is about Japanese restaurants in Cambridge. Not one is authentic and need customer service training.

Fantastic sashimi, sushi and various tempura. We got excellent service (2pm Sunday) and thought the bill very reasonable. Will be back.

Went for a weekday business lunch and were surprised to find we were the only customers. Decor is reasonable if a little tired, menu is very varied with lots of options and food is reasonable - salmon sashimi and California roll were particularly good, octopus and tuna sashimi both disappointing, mixed sushi quite clumsy and rather uninspiring. Service was the real disappointment - we had to call the waitress to order, to get both rounds of drinks, to ask where the sushi we ordered was, in fact the only time we got any actual attention was when they made it obvious we should leave so they could close for the afternoon, turning music off 1/2 hour before advertised closing time and being very very clear we couldn't order any drinks after this. I can accept an element of being ignored or forgotten in a busy restaurant but when the waitress had no other customers and spent our entire visit staring at her phone its pretty poor, we saw 1 other member of staff when we came in and when we were encouraged to leave left but not inbetween. Its a shame as Im happy to go out of my way for good sushi and sashimi, I doubt Id return for very average food with below average service.

I've had japas sushi countless times (both at the restaurant and take away) and it never disappoints. The prices are good considering that they give very generous portions. Best thing on the menu are the octopus balls! Only negative thing if you eat at the restaurant is that the staff can be a bit blunt.

We don’t really want everyone to know about Japas but here goes! Ever since Teri-Aki shut down this is our go-to for authentic Japanese food. It’s small and unassuming and slightly off the beaten track on Saxon Street but the food is just amazing. Today we had 3 types of sashimi which arrived in hugely generous portions, fresh gyoza which were beautiful and lovely hot and salty edamame beans. We also shared a delicious Yaki Soba. Lots of choice of sake but also a nice hot green tea. Service was very friendly - it’s obviously very busy with take away and delivery too so sometimes it took a bit to get the attention of the lovely waitress but it’s great to see Japas has survived the pandemic and seems to be thriving!

We ordered the sharing platter of starters, spicy dragon roll, miso aubergine, cripsy duck and avocado and some desserts. We sat in the restaurant, which was quiet, and had very good and attentive service from the waitress. All of the sushi was delicious and I would definitely go again

Average food . And awfull customer service. The old man working there is extremely rude and grumpy. Think about retirement man . If you are having a bad day yourself dont throw your troubles on someone else . I wont eat or order myself ever from this place even if there food could cure cancer i wont .

Ordered for home delivery a sushi set. Some of it was ok, some chewy and tough. Will not order again. Ohayo sushi is a much better value for money.

Japas es una elección frecuente para nosotros tanto para la entrega como para la cena (aunque más entregas tarde debido a razones obvias). Realmente todo lo que puedo decir al respecto es que la calidad del sushi aquí es excepcional, de lejos el mejor que he encontrado en Cambridge.

Went with party of 6 for a significant birthday for a sushi-loving vegetarian. On a Saturday night we found we could enjoy a relaxed meal, and throughout found great variety and generous portions. I think we will be back

Enjoyed a family meal here. The staff were really friendly and attentive, and the food was good value for money.The only downside, for me anyway, was the state of the building. A bit tired looking, toilet not working, grubby fishtank.I'd still go back, though.

My partner and I have been coming here about 8 months now and this is easily our favourite restaurant. Small, homely interior with seats by the bar too, always wonderful and quiet because there are only a few tables! The owner and staff are extremely respectful and helpful,every time. They even offer a free jar of their teriyaki sauce if you ask. I originally came for the takoyaki but nothing I've had here has ever failed to please- the sashimi price is amazing for the amount and quality you get, some amazing ramen and donburi choices too. The sake menu has a huge variety too. Couldn't recommend enough! Thank you Japas :)

He comido en este excelente restaurante japonés muchas veces, pero esta fue la primera vez que traje un grupo grande (12 personas). El servicio aún era perfecto, muy atento y particularmente útil para los miembros del grupo que no habían visitado antes. La comida llegó rápidamente y nos trataron como clientes valorados. Como siempre, los platos eran excelentes y recién hechos. Definitivamente recomendaría Japas Sushi para una reserva de grupo.

El servicio es educado, eficiente y amable, y la comida es fabulosa para los vegetarianos, con muchas opciones. Yo trabajo en una escuela internacional local, y muchos de nuestros estudiantes de todas las nacionalidades también van allí. Mis platos favoritos son el filete de tofu, el yamei itame, el tofu crujiente (con chile y ajo), el ramen de verduras en sopa de miso y la caja de bento vegetariana.

Vagando a casa bastante tarde en la noche buscando solo un bocadillo, caímos sobre Japón. Terminé comiendo chile de cangrejo de cáscara blanda con arroz, que era realmente bueno, pero la sopa caliente y amarga de mis compañeros era más bien gelatinosa y no lo terminó porque no le gustaba el sabor. Lo probé y tampoco me gustó. Nuestra camarera fue dulce y trató de ser útil, pero su inglés era un poco grave, así que no pudimos hacer demasiadas preguntas. Me sorprendió un poco descubrir que ella estaba haciendo un postgrado en UCL. Pero ese soy yo viejo e ingenuo. Tuvimos algunos saki que disfrutamos. ¡Vi que en el menú hay botellas que cuestan alrededor de 300!Es un lugar bastante lindo con mesas bonitas en un área de semisótano donde es fácil relajarse. Bueno, esa es mi interpretación, mi compañero lo llamó un poco de buceo. Lo que me desanimó fue el baño que tenía un charco de agua en el piso y dos grifos sin agua con una de las partes superiores destrozadas. Había un pequeño calentador de emersión que no funcionaba. Así que no pude lavarme las manos. Estoy calificando a un 3, las instalaciones de lavado son extremas y veo en revisiones anteriores que no estoy solo en plantear una preocupación. Queridos Japas, por favor, resuélvanlo, un inspector de salud tendría un ataque.

He estado aquí con colegas y mi pareja y lo hemos convertido en nuestro lugar ideal para el sushi en Cambridge. El personal siempre es muy amable y la comida es deliciosa y preparada con cuidado. Tengo muchas ganas de volver y probar más platos de su extenso menú.

Mi amigo y yo fuimos a Cambridge por primera vez y, como nos gusta el sushi y la comida japonesa, pensamos que probar un restaurante japonés aquí sería bueno. Nos quedamos muy impresionados con el servicio, la comida y también los precios. Nuestro viaje a Cambridge se completó con esta experiencia. Sigan con el buen trabajo.

Well this review is not about the food. I just wanna WARNING all the Chinese customers don't go to this restaurant cause the servant is a disgusting RACIST. She treat me very rude. When I was asking a dish on the menu she didn't say anything just point the menu even try to HIT my hand off the menu. After that when I want to order something she ask me write it down by myself. I ask her about wifi, she only said no then walk away, and speak in a rude tone with poker face. Then I saw her talking to white customers with big smile and light tone, even laughed. I felt be insult then cancelled the order. Whatever any excuse, DISCRIMINATE IS STUPID and it need to be BOYCOTTED
