We love the food at Japas! Been here countless times and we always have a great time. I celebrated my birthday and the owner handed me a bottle of red to celebrate! We now regularly celebrate all our birthdays here. My kids are fussy but love the chicken chow mein here. Can't recommend it enough. The staff are lovely too. It's such a special restaurant for us <3

We had soft shell crab, sashimi set , Ramen , Rainbow roll and warm saké. My favourite were sashimi and Rainbow roll. Will definitely come again to have delicious and fresh meals.

The food is AMAZING!! You want authentic Japanese food and fresh sushi? this is your place!! I’ve been to many Japanese restaurants in the area and by far, it has even the fanciest restaurants beat! I’m impressed! 😍

First time visiting Japas but not the last. I found this place on a whim, while looking for good authentic Japanese food. We ordered alot of small plates, all of the portions were sharing size and most importantly the food was the best Japanese food we've had in England. I won't list everything but we loved the spider roll, seafood & veggie dumplings, mock chicken in black bean sauce, and veggie curry. Above all, the customer service and attentiveness was absolutely amazing.

We come here a lot (live locally) as it’s the best quality and best priced sushi in Cambridge. We’ve eaten at all of the other usual spots and keep coming back to Japas for the excellent service and authenticity of the food. I recommend the chicken katsu curry, the gyozas and any of the sushi plates (they are all hand crafted by the amazing chefs behind the restaurant area) For 2x large starters and 2x mains with tap water the bill came to £45 today

Just wish I lived closer. The food is utterly amazing. The service incredibly quick. Lovely staff. As I use a walking stick they will always let me sit on the ground floor

Me and my family have been dining/takeawaying for roughly 15 years. The fish has always been amazing, not one bad experience. I’ve been to a lot sushi restaurants in my life but japas will always hold a special place in my heart.

Excellent rainbow roll. Sushi is prepared freshly and each roll has different fish on top. Wow wow good food with no frills. The atmosphere is like in izakaya on busy streets of Tokyo. Small but great. Good service, feel like home. Only downside is cash(for < £15)

Had a table booked but was clearly being served after the waves of JustEat orders. One member of the reservation received their food a long time after everyone else had got their food, and we were told it was because they were busy - there were few diners in the restaurant but the delivery drivers were constant.

I love your food, but you are just getting far too expensive. Nearly twice the price of others in Cambridge, so it’s really hard to justify. A real shame

By far some of the best japanese food I have had ever, in such a cozy place! Highly recommended.

I visited this restaurant with my 7 year old daughter and the gentleman gave us the seat right next to the fish tank to occupy her. When I order her sushi I made a mistake and ordered the wrong kind when it arrived she wouldn't eat it. So I spoke to the manager and her managed to give her the sushi she wanted for a special price as I only had £30 in cash. My daughter was very pleased and I'm very grateful he was so accommodating. The restaurant is snug with an authentic Japanese interior great friendly staff and fast service. The chef is quick and the food tastes great. Highly recommended for an authentic Japanese experience.

Brilliant - I love this place, incredible sushi as always, the sashimi here is especially fresh.

Sashimi is nice, I also like the seafood selection donburi, although the portion is not that much. Very disappointed with the gyudon though.. Love the atmosphere and Korean bgm.

Went there for dinner. The food was spot on. Everything was fresh and flavorful with reasonable prices.

Craving sushi? This cozy lovely restaurant is a must-go for sushi lovers. We ordered the salmon crispy cheese and rainbow roll uramaki and they were both delicious. Just the right amount of sushi and rice combination and the cheese added a creamy and refreshing taste and texture! Highly recommend. We also had the unagi roll first time and was blown away. Succulent unagi with lots of sauce and cute dragon design.

I only ordered a quick takeaway, but if im being honest, the food was really nice, it was hot and tasted fresh, and it is probably the best tasting Chinese takeaway I have had in Cambridge, so far. service was quick and simple.

First time visiting Japas and highly rate it. As a sushi lover, I’ve been on the hunt for amazing sushi restaurants since a moved to Cambridgeshire. So pleased we found this little gem!

Food was meh. It was convenient for me but there are much better places in town for quality. Threw half of it away and it was pretty expensive for what it was.

A very pleasant surprise, the outside appearance isn't great, but inside is charming, and the food is genuine and top quality, also very reasonably priced. Good service too.

The amount of food for the price felt very disappointing - it arrived just at the latest time it could be, and for 84 pounds pre discount, it felt very limited. The salmon skin sushi in particular felt inedible, and poorer in quality than we have had before.

I came here for the first time with my dad today as he loves the food here. this is definitely the best jp food i've had outside from japan!!! if you are homesick you should come here. The waitress was so lovely and it was a lovely relaxed atmosphere. i can't praise it enough. thank you we will be back again soon!! :)

Good food, the usual explosion of tastes when eating well made sushi rolls. A bit more expensive than our last Sushi place but they no longer have eat in.

Wow just got my order delivered. This has to be the very worst sushi I ever had in my life. Better to have Tesco sushi. Rice was hard with no flavor and fish was of the worst quality. Cannot judge a place by reviews anymore. Yuck

An unexpected little treat near to botanical gardens and fitz William museum. Not a large venue and as just main tourist area a bit quieter. Great service and nice menu. .

Great choice for students! One of the few places in Cambridge where I could have a filling meal under £10 (and there is 10% student discount too). I had the Kimchi fried rice, but the sushi rolls on the menu also looked super appealing. Besides, the owner is very welcoming and the ambient was just right - reminds me of authentic Japanese restaurants rather than chain stores. In fact Japas was recommended to me 2 years ago, I regret not giving it a try earlier!

Sushi is OK - decent fish, hot, abundant rice. Futomakis are not great. Uramaki rolls are OK, large portions, satisfying. Nigiris are very good. Hot dishes, like salt and pepper squid, are delicious. If you can, try asking for no mayo

Small, quirky little place in a slightly hidden location but still close to central Cambridge (a short walk from the Fitzwilliam Museum). It’s excellent, really good sushi (I’d call myself reasonably knowledgeable after multiple trips to Japan and years of seeking out sushi restaurants around the world). Also great value for money. It’s worth making an effort to get to know and thank the older guy who manages Japas, especially if you plan to return.

We had a family birthday lunch here. The service is excellent and the food arrived quickly, despite ordering a large array of sushi as well as gyoza and takoyaki. All excellent. Plenty of people coming in for takeaways as it seems to be a popular choice with locals. It is away from the centre of Cambridge, where most of the restaurants are for tourists, so all good.

We had ramen and it was very nice. I saw a lot of negative reviews for customer service, but we were served by a polite (British?) gentleman and had a pleasant experience :) The atmosphere was relaxing and quiet. Would visit again!

Very good for food. The service is kind but not more professional. Tiny restaurant, booking suggested to dine in. I come back in December, definitely one of my favourite restaurant. Be carefully they close early in the evening. The fried and crunchy beef is wonderful!

Great quality of sushi and sashimi, every single piece was delicious and fresh. You can definitely tell the difference compared to ‘machine made’ and this handmade ones. The rice of sushi is really well seasoned. Salmon roe should be marinated bit more as it was not giving very strong enough flavour. Ramen was good too, nice texture of noodles and heart warming soup. Service was amazing too, the lady that served us was so kind and polite all the time, was always taking care of the table. The restaurant is not big or super comfy and the price is bit expensive but if you are looking for some good sushi I would definitely recommend here.

Scallop and salmon rolls were great. I threw away the duck rolls which were substantially overcooked and tasted odd, maybe they were just the leftover bits from another batch scraped together or something

Great place! Really good food, excellent service and relaxed atmosphere (cosy but not noisy). The Prawn tempura were a highlight

We ordered online and I had a Jo Set which was eight pieces of assorted nigiri and twelve pieces of hosomaki and this was perfect for me to have and it filled me up. It tasted very fresh and I liked that the wasabi came too, it's always good to have that with the sushi! The food arrived quickly and if I am in the area again, I'll order my sushi from here. Good value too!

Best sushi in Cambridge by far!

Mid-level option in Cambridge. Decent flavorful donburi (I ordered many duck donburi during lockdown). Large portion. For the chirashi, fish can be fresher with better cuts though. Right now it is comparable to fast food/takeaway pieces. Might come back again to try sushi or sashimi in the hope of nicer selections.

Food was pretty good - the Donburi was tasty with the rice bowl being a good size and friend fish and vegetables also a good portion, and the service was quick and friendly. The Rice cake desert is next level though! Best Mochi I’ve had in a long time!

Really disappointed. The soft shell crab costs £8 per one but it was too spicy and you couldn’t taste the crab. And Soup Udon was too salty that it looked like using soy sauce to cook only. You will definitely cook it more nice than this restaurant. If you had tried Japanese food before in Japan, you definitely won’t recommend this restaurant.

One of the best Japanese restaurants I've been to in a while. Very fresh and great quality. Price is fair. Had a lovely evening meal and will be looking to return soon hopefully.

Recently dined here with friends, personally for the price point I would prefer Sticks & Sushi (it costs an extra 15/20% but is almost 100% better in quality) The service was good, however the atmosphere could be much better - there were quite a lot of flies (small) which is a bit worrying given you are consuming raw fish. It's also quite a tight space but this is situated in Cambridge city centre Basically, would I eat here again? no

Blown away by the quality of the food here, amazing. Don't let the exterior of the building put you off this is a true hidden gem on the edge of the city centre. It's also like a TARDIS inside. All the meals (vegetarian and normal dishes)were perfectly cooked and presented, the chef is excellent. We also tried out first sparkling Sake. Good range of Japanese and far Eastern dishes for everyones palate. A very enjoyable lunch.

So this is a mixed review. The fish is easily the best that I have had in the UK. It's really, really good. Anything that is made of raw fish is delicious. (I tried the salmon and the tuna). I am not so sure about the other stuff I tried. The crispy BBQ salmon skin roll is completely unlike any other similarly named roll I have had before and the internal texture is gritty, and the ice cream has noticeable ice crystals in it. The service is great. The restaurant layout is nice. The price makes sense for the quality of the fish but otherwise I don't really think so.

A decent restaurant where I can eat multiple time, fresh Japanese food. Highly recommend uramaki menu and noodle. A combination of Japansese, Chinese in Asia flavour. Actually it is very hard to me to choose my favourite one because I can find any food for me here, from Japansese sushi, sashimi, healthy meal with salad options or noodle bowl.
