Stopped here last night for something to eat after filling up at the petrol station on site. It was 5:45pm, the lady in the forecourt told me I should hurry up because it closes promptly at 6pm. After entering the cafe, there were already other diners either eating or waiting to order. Great I thought. Upon ordering I got a serious feeling of not being welcome. The lady taking the order presumed I wanted a take away. I apologised for the lateness but would rather eat in. There did seem to be a communication problem, she either deliberately ignored me or it didn't suit her that I wanted to eat in. My food was prepared by another lady, who didn't seem to be bothered about having to prepare another dinner, in fact she was very helpful. Upon chatting to the second lady, I discovered she was actually the owner.she was a nice lady and because of her, I am prepared to give this cafe a second visit. I'm guessing I caught the first lady on a bad day.

Jan’s cafe is housed in a former Little chef diner on the south bound A19 and sits next to a petrol station You can still imagine the little chef once you walk through the doors and re live many happy childhood memories But this is today and Jan has made a lovely cafe here which serves homemade specials alongside a regular menu We arrived mid morning and had a cooked English breakfast which was very nice and good ingredients as well The cafe is clean and the service is friendly from Jan and her staff Food is very reasonably priced as well for such a great location Would we go back if we was ever up that way again? Definitely 👍

We popped in this little gem a couple of years ago. And every time being to visit family we go for tea on way back to York. Don’t matter if we in car or on bike jan and her staff always treat us same way. Food is homemade nothing frozen. Also enjoy the food and being in the same industry I’m fussy on where I eat jans is always clean warm and friendly. Will be there tomorrow. 🙂

This is worth far more than the 2 star rating another reviewer gave to this cafe. It’s clean, 5* hygiene rating, with plenty of seating, and clean toilets. The ladies were friendly. The food was excellent. Full English for my husband. He’s a truck driver and a connoisseur of “the full English” and he rated his meal highly. I had home made quiche, which was lovely, chips and fresh salad (and it was fresh - it obviously hadn’t been languishing in a bowl in the fridge pre-cut). The chips were made from fresh potatoes, not out of a freezer bag. Crunchy on the outside, fluffy on the inside- just the way chips should be. Two cups of tea, bread and butter for hubby- and it all came to just over £12, for two people. Absolutely excellent value, and would certainly recommend a visit.

Stopped there 3 years running on our way to our holidays. Great home made food and Yorkshire tea. Our kids are fussy eaters but they love the quiche cooked here. It is a truck stop so don't expect the ritz but it is clean. Great food and friendly service .......... and sometimes Eddie Stobart trucks for our little spotters !!!!! Will be back there in August 2017.

This place is a cafe on some services on the A19; as you come out of a Shell filling station it is right there facing you. It kind of looks like a privately-owned Little Chef and the red and wood fittings are presumably designed to encourage that feel. But you have to order the counter. The service wasn't cheerful, friendly or efficient. It was underused at about 5.30pm on a weekday and I can see why. Further on, on the A1M, is a place called Cafe 168 (or something similar) - might try that if we're ever back in that part of the world

My in-laws live down the road from this brilliant little pub. It was great to go to for evening drinks and Sunday Roast. Definitely worth visiting and enjoyed the food, service, drink options, and the people.

A cut above your normal Sunday pub lunch. Excellent presentation and really tasty. Not the normal boiled veg. Very good.

Seven of us were spending a week flying at the Yorkshire Gliding Club, Sutton Bank and on a rainy morning we visited the Gavel for Breakfast on a Club Member’s recommendation. If you’re looking for a full English breakfast this is definitely the place to go. Good quality nicely cooked breakfast, good portions,(you would have to be ravenous to go for the large), excellent value for money, good service and friendly staff. Look forward to going to try the lunch on our next visit.
