Governors House in Hambleton

Our third time at Govenors House, Northallerton, and it never disappoints. It's tough to decide what to have because everything looks, sounds, and is so delicious! There are specials available on top of the main menu, and the service is friendly & welcoming. Highly recommend!! Photo attached is avocado on toast with mushroom instead of eggs, and extra bacon, plus the special chicken & bacon pancakes (insane!!!), and finally the cinnamon graham pancakes. All incredible, can't wait to return!

Great food, went for the starter and main for £20 and we both really enjoyed everything that we’d ordered, portions were huge, so much so that we both were struggling to eat all our main course, not a negative as everything was delicious. Cocktails were very good too we went for the two for £16 and had the Governor and the Governess (2x each) and they were spot on! Staff as always really friendly and attentive, had the added bonus of some live music too, don’t know her name but really good pianist/singer.

We were greeted at the door by Keavey. It was a while since we were last in, so it was lovely to be remembered. The service we received off her was above and beyond, and the food was spot on. First visit. My friend chose a vegetarian option but later spoke with staff and informed and trusted the chicken was halal. The food was delicious. All credit to chef and staff. We will return in future.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ I went the first day with family for breakfast and the food was wicked! The best breakfast ive had in a restaurant, by far. I was so impressed, i brought my partner back the next day and ill 100% be a regular now. The staff were super lovely, gave their recommendations and were really warm and friendly. We went for the special offer of ‘southern fried chicken, bacon, maple mustard syrup on French toast’ on recommendation from the staff, and it was ‘epic’ as a family member said. Also working in food service means you notice the extra things and I can 100% say its a class place to go.

Called in with my daughter for an impromptu lunch, and we were not disappointed! My daughter had the full Gov’s breakfast (huge & gorgeous) and I had something recommended by the lovely & informative staff member…the French toast with chicken, bacon & maple syrup….WOW😍! I was driving so didn’t have the glass of fizz with it, but that didn’t matter cos it was so, so good. We left very full and needing a nap. Thank you, it was amazing. Looking forward to our next meal at The Govs House 👍xx

Visited today with my sister and our 3 children. Was very quiet when first arrived and was seated promptly. The food was lovely (but pricey) £18.50 for a breakfast (paid extra for hashbrowns). Unfortunately the glasses that were on the table for water were dirty. The waitress was on her own having to take orders, do drinks, bring food out and take payments. It seemed very full on for one person! (The waitress I must say was lovely). When it came to pay we asked if we could split the bill (1 adult 2 kids & 1 adult 1 kid). We both paid and on questioning the price we were told there was a service charge added. We had not been informed of this before paying and I didn't read it anywhere whilst dining. In total we paid a service charge of over £6. This really should be mentioned and given as an OPTION!

Always love this place, the food is amazing with massive portions and the staff are so friendly. Chicken bacon french toast is my new favourite meal!

Absolutely lovely! We popped in for coffee after looking at the premises opposite; for our joint art display with The Art Crowd. The manager is exceptional, she is friendly, welcoming and makes for brilliant customer service throughout the establishment. We had coffees and sundaes, we recommend these! So fruity and lots of flavour! Such a treat! Brilliant place to go! If you are parking your car try the car park on Crosby road or near the forum as lidl only give you 90 minutes. Can't wait to call again when we put up our art display. The square outside has seating area and gas a hood feel to it. Next time we visit Governor's House we are going to try the pancakes!

We had a lovely get together. We had planned for lunch but opted for the bottomless brunch option. Amazing, tasty food. Lovely and attentive staff. Plenty of choices for drinks. We will definitely be back ☺️

Absolutely wonderful place for coffee, breakfast, food and drinks. Been here many times before but the first time doing bottomless brunch and would highly recommend the menu and drinks to anyone! The food is a gorgeous as it looks but we stopped taking photos at drink number 2! The staff are amazing - go above and beyond to make sure everything is as you want it! Thank you all x

Great food service atmosphere and lovely music

Always our favourite place to meet up for brunch! We had the beef Benedict from the specials board and it was one of the best breakfasts we’ve ever had. The full English breakfast is huge too none of it greasy like you get at some places. Staff are really friendly and the place itself is lovely plenty of tables not too close to each other and they have booths. Will always recommend this place!

Took the girls prior to a visit to the cinema! Large portions, kids pancakes were awesome along with the mrs eggs royale and large breakfast for myself. Only niggle was a dog in the restaurant on the next table which kept barking which spoilt the atmosphere but thankfully left after 15mins. Real Gem in northallerton! Use it or lose it Northallerton!!

Popped in here for a delightful lunch after a bit of pottery painting with my friend. It was very quiet which was lovely, although I suspect usually it is busier - we did come on the day of the England final after all. The food was amazing. So delicious and great portion sizes. Brilliant place, what a gem.

First time here, we were going to another venue nearby which was closed on Tuesdays but really pleased as we wouldn’t have found this gem . I’m coeliac and waitress was very knowledgeable as majority of dishes could be made gluten free. We both Opted for burger choices which were home made and lovely but it was the side salad that stole the show, never had one with as much variety of vegetables, seeds and salad items. Home made lemonade was delicious . With a tip £20 head . Most definitely visiting again 😊

Visited for the first time and last time yesterday. Waitress friendly enough but the table was filthy, the cutlery and water glass were dirty. In fact the place needs a good deep clean!!!

Called in on Saturday for a quick drink and a bite to eat. The service was exceptional, the food phenomenal the atmosphere amazing. But the most surprising, but wonderful thing was the very unexpected entertainment. The young lady singing was absolutely brilliant. What a talented young lady, what a difference it made to our whole experience. Will definitely call again if ths is what to expect. Highly recommended. ********

Great atmosphere and amazing food!

Just wanted a relatively quick and tasty meal, and the breakfast seemed to fit the bill. It was, however, mediocre and not worth the money paid. The sausages whilst tasty were a bit chewy, and the bacon had a lot of fat running through and a bit tough to get through, not helped by knives, which just about cut through the bread. Would not recommend due to pricing.

Really good breakfast! Stopped in travelling north, great to find this place given the distinct lack places along this stretch of the A19. Northallerton, quintessentially rural northern market town, lovely. The Governor’s House, a wonderful old building, with a modern interior, food cooked in front of you. Tasty, well presented and quality ingredients, the traditional full breakfast with good meaty sausage thick bacon and all the trimmings, the Mediterranean breakfast fresh and full of flavour. and tea in a tea pot, proper! Service was prompt, efficient and friendly, price reflects the quality, very much worth it, and left satisfied and ready for the day ahead!

Always a good place for lunch and great menu - difficult to choose! Outstanding service. My son has a bad response to onions and very thorough checks were carried out and substitutions made to his order. Thanks very much.

Didn't know about this place, although we're frequent visitors to the town. Nice varied menu. This was the Gaol governor's house previously. We'll definitely go again.

Lovely family friendly (& dog friendly!) venue. Conveniently situated & with parking just a short walk away. Service with a smile. Excellent menu choice - both for adults & children. And we had booked in for a day when young children could eat for £1.00. So amazingly good value. Crayons & paper on each table for young ones while awaiting our food. The only glitch being a longer than expected wait for that, but certainly not unpleasant as the vibe was really nice. Staff were apologetic & kept us informed. The two grand kids had a plate of pasta & a stack of pancakes respectively. Which they loved! Grownups had different dishes, each of which was excellent! Mine being possibly the most filling 'full English breakfast' I have had. Would highly recommend this place.

All I can say is Excellent in every way. The breakfast was the best I've ever tasted and Alisha was welcoming and very attentive.

Not the best,ok so gave you a free bottle of water ,but two of the 3 glasses were dirty,still had lipstick on ,got clean ones after asking ,but why give hot glasses for cold drink , its a bit grimey under tables and toilets ,not a complaint just an observation,on the plus side grandson loved his pancakes

This is my go-to spot for brunch in town. The menu choices are fantastic and they do good sized portions. I went when they had a pancake week special menu on and it was amazing (white chocolate and pistachio). They have a good choice of drinks too, including some that aren’t widely available elsewhere (such as matcha and turmeric lattes). Friendly staff and a good location just out of the centre of town. Would highly recommend!

First time going to the Governors House tonight, my daughter recommended as she had been before for lunch. Food was amazing, had the Korean Crispy Chicken, full of flavour and there was plenty of it on the plate. For dessert had the Chocolate Fudge cake. Couldn’t fault the service from the girls, both helpful, chatty and couldn’t do enough for you. Would definitely recommend and will definitely return.

First time calling for food tonight. My dad and I had the Korean crispy chicken. Great portions and tasted amazing! The service was amazing thank you to Keavey and Elieisha. The pudding we’re really good delicious too. Will definitely be back soon.

Fifth visit in as many weeks now has made this place into our go-to venue for a proper brunch rather than just a coffee . The staff are helpful , well-mannered and seem properly interested in us as customers rather than just bums on seats. Excellent menu too , all the usual staples have an interesting variation and every meal seems to have been made to order with a minimum of pre-prepared items. Only ever seen a single chef in the kitchen so hats off to him for work-rate and ability. Top notch place to eat - if you are hungry , really hungry , go for the Huevos Rancheros - it won't disappoint.

Another fab night at the Governor House! I was out with the family for a meal on Valentine’s night and it was absolutely gorgeous. The sharing platter starters were so lovely - and then I had my own personal favourite, the Katsu Chicken Curry😋 I got some of it in a doggy bag so that I could squeeze a lush white choc lemon pudding in. Very friendly & efficient service from the staff ensured a great evening. Thank you🥰

The atmosphere, the staff and the food are all excellent

This was the second time we had dined at the restaurant on a Saturday evening and it was just as good as the first. The first time we chose from the two courses for £20. I had the spring rolls to start and my husband had a chicken starter Both were presented well and tasted delicious. Our server recommended the Korean crispy chicken. The chicken melted in your month and the Korean sauce complimented it A little too much rice for me. We were stunned by the size of the governors house burger that my husband had, two beef burgers, gherkins, tomato, bacon and applewood cheddar all piled into a bun. The chips that accompanied it were plentiful. We couldn’t manage a pudding but took advantage of the two cocktails for £12 drinking dark and stormy. On our second visit we both had chipotle burger I really enjoyed the different textures and the warmth of the chipotle sauce. My husband said he enjoyed the governors house burger more. On both our visits the staff were friendly and attentive but never pushy giving us time to make our selection Well done Governors house we will be back.

We had lunch here today, and it was very good. I had the crisp Korean chicken, and it was very tasty, and it was a very generous portion. Me and my wife were with our son, daughter-in-law and 9 month old grandson. Every meal that was served to us looked great, and the staff were friendly and accommodating. The prices are also very reasonable. I will definitely return.

We were taken here for lunch by our son and partner, who live in Northallerton. They had been here before and liked it, not least because they could bring their dog, but also because they loved the food. The staff were really friendly. My husband chose the full English breakfast, which he said was excellent, and the rest of us had the Governors breakfast. This was delicious - a crumpet topped with bacon, hash brown, poached eggs, hollandaise sauce, and fried halloumi at the side. 'Breakfast' menu items are served until 4pm, which is a definite plus. We will definitely be back.

I love going to governors house I always get looked after very well by Alisha. This time was no different, a lovely warm welcome and great service. The food never disappoints I went for the beef burger and it was amazing. 10/10 flavour 10/10 presentation and 10/10 portion size

Our evening resulted in having 2 courses for £20 each. The food was amazing, compliments to the chef (Wish). We also had numerous 2 for 1 cocktails which were all lovely. The staff were run off their feet all night but still made sure everyone was happy and not sat waiting. Lovely place to eat, relaxing and a excellent place to get together with friends and family. Highly recommend and that's a 5☆ from me.

Amazing! Everything about mine and my boyfriends experience was excellent. We had the 2 course for £20 which the portions were definitely worth the money. I had the Katsu Curry which was out of this world! Best chef we’ve come by in a long time (Wish job well done!) We also had the 2 for £12 cocktails and Tiegan and Eliesha recommended some lovely cocktails. Fabulous atmosphere too, great place for romantic nights 💜

Having eaten there a few times in the past but only from the breakfast menu we thought we would try their weekend evening menu which proved to be outstanding ! The quality of all the dishes served was faultless as well as the service and value for money , would highly recommend 👍

Incredible food, beautiful environment and decor, and a great selection of drinks, soft or alcoholic. I had the chipotle chicken burger (best chicken burger I’ve ever had!) and my partner had had a great Japanese rice bowl. To top it off they gifted us a biscoff cheesecake which was absolutely divine for my partners birthday, although I ate more of it than she did as the portion sizes are brilliant! Fantastic friendly service and would absolutely return!

First time at the GH and I must say THE RUMOURS ARE TRUE. The food and atmosphere was a pure delight - as I sat down with the family coffee’s were swiftly ordered and arrived with a beautiful fresh coffee aroma and could tell was made with love. Once the food arrived I was not disappointed. As a massive four in a bed fan I am always looking out for the quality of hollandaise sauce, and this was a delight - poached eggs poached AF (unreal). Big shout out to Teigan Lass who was a top server. No pad all memory this girl - A delightful experience and we shall be back. Thanks staff and gov. Love The Sunshine’s 🌸☀️

The decor is fab, with a slight industrial feel with some steel work but elegant at the same time. Staff are always great and attentive. Not your everyday menu but some twists with a touch of class. Highly recommended!
