The best fish and chips I’ve had in my life. So succulent. The deserts were beautifully presented and the hazelnut merengue was really the tip of the iceberg. The atmosphere was perfect. So cozy and will definitely be coming here for a romantic date night (will be needing a bottle of that merlot 😝)

Loved it..Real old school fish restaurant, no frills gimmicks or loud music..Just great quality, value and service !! Can't wait to return..

Simply the best fish 'n' chips for miles around. Deep fried in the traditional way (not oil).

True to themselves, good food, good portion size, good quality produce, simple, no fuss, no unecessary clutter. Excellent value for money. Traditional British cooking at its best. Amazing whitebait, calamari, cod and salmon.

Brilliant food and staff are great.

Thoroughly welcomed me as a solo dinner. Wait staff were super lovely and helpful too. The food was great and the portions are generous. It’s not a cheap dinner but it was very feel good and I would go back. Plenty of families there too, so suitable for anyone who wants simple food done extremely well. The only thing I would say is ask the venue to give the option to tip on the card machine as I felt so mean and didn’t have any cash!

Probably or arguably the best fish and chips shop in Surrey and beyond. Yet to find a better one. We alternate between the Weybridge one opposite the Weybridge library and this one. Of course the ability to dine in and upstairs being their restaurant moreso, is great. Highly recommended and a flexible wide menu too

Website menu prices ridiculously out of date. Expect to spend 50% more than you think. Service fairly poor, food okay. Won’t be rushing back

This was my first visit to Jane's Upstairs restaurant with a group of friends. What a delight ! The poached salmon was perfect as was the service.

Have driven past here for the last decade and always wondered what it was like. Well I did the right thing. The food was magic!!! You know you're in the right place when asking for a "wally" doesn't return a puzzled face. When mushy peas are on the menu and boy what a generous portion. Nicky was a fab hostess and everyone in there was happy and willing to engage with the table next door. Needless to say what a super place to partake in good ol' fish 'n' chips.

Became more and more expensive with less and less fish! Portion size reduced price's gone up...come on we're customers not stupid.

We enjoyed a superb meal here last night. Friendly staff and delicious well cooked food - couldn't have asked for more.

Great Fish and chips in a pleasant environment. A short wait whilst it was freshly cooked. Nice Chips not soggy. Service was first rate. It is located above Superfish. Free Off street parking outside after 6.30 otherwise metered

First trip back to Janes for many years and left wondering why we have not been going their regularly, like it would seem the rest of the full tables had been. Lovely freshly caught and cooked fish and chips, sauces and deserts.. will be back for sure kids enjoyed everything especially the monster ice cream!

I love eating in this restaurant. The food is cooked fresh to order and the fish is fresh and delicious. I love variety of fish, the refills of chips and yummy traditional puddings. The staff are so lovely and welcoming too.

Was so good to go back to Jane's Upstairs after the long break. Was great to see it full and buzzing. The Fish & Chips were as tasty as ever along with lovely starters and puds to accompany. All was washed down with some nice chilled pink Pinot and the usual friendly service and homely atmosphere. If you live locally and haven't ventured upstairs to Jane's then I'd highly recommend.

Excellent fish & chips served in a homely and relaxed atmosphere in Jane's restaurant Upstairs. We often have fish and chips downstairs when out for a bike ride but Jane's is a lovely cosy place to have them with friends when dining out with a great choice of fish cooked as you want. They do a lovely rose to accompany. I would highly recommend and very good value.

Great fish and chips (obviously as its fried downstairs!). Excellent service and homemade tartare sauce. Theres a few more items on the menu I think. I'm not too sure on the prawns they bring out upstairs. They're a bit small, haven't been deveined and are served on a little cracker

Not a large restaurant upstairs, but very homely and very good fish and chips. Desserts are all home made and the Butterscotch and custard is highly recommended.

Absolutely delicious meal served by very pleasant staff and fish cooked to perfection. For a change we had onion soup to start, that was very nice and warming. Really faultless.

I booked fish and chips with a group of 8 people. When booking I asked if they could supply gluten free batter for me, which they did. Everybody had a good meal including me as I had gluten free batter with my fish.

Great fish & chips but quite pricey.

We were invited to a birthday gathering on Saturday 9th November, the food was delicious and nothing was too much trouble, but what really impressed me was just how efficient, polite and attentive the staff were and service with a smile.

We had a great evening on Saturday 9 November in the restaurant a meal for over 50 guests. The food was delicious, varied and delivered to the tables promptly. A great atmosphere and we were looked after, as usual, really well by Jane, Matt and the team - nothing was too much trouble.

I had a fantastic evening meal here on Friday with some friends who had been before. The service was friendly and very professional with lots of advice about the menu. We all had Cod and chips and the fish was absolutely delicious and came with lots bread and butter as well as mushy peas, gerkins and pickled onions, an absolute treat of a meal. This was my first visit to Jane's but I can say that it will not be my last, I absolutely loved this place!

Visited this busy restaurant on a Saturday evening.Downstairs was a fish and chip take away and a crowded sit in cafe.Upstairs [very steep] a characterless restaurant. The staff were welcoming and helpful.The menu was extensive fish.Our order was taken and the food arrived promptly. My starter of avocado and crab meat was poor, unripe avocado and tasteless crab.The bread was lovely. The other starters were OK.The main courses were of good quantity and quality with average presentation. It all seemed a bit regimental and not the best dining experience. Probably better to get a takeaway from downstairs and eat at home.Prices a little above expected.

This is the first time my husband and I have been to Jane’s Upstairs and we went with a friend. All the food was beautifully cooked and served. This restaurant is so good we will be returning. Had asparagus, my husband had whitebait and our friend had crab and avocado. All good portions. My husband then had grilled haddock and our friend and I had Torbay sole with jacket potatoes. We were offered pickled onions and cucumber with tartare sauce. The fish tasted very fresh. We didn’t have a sweet as we were full up! All in all a very good evening.

Been a few times, all it is is an extension of the place downstairs and Jane deal with the orders. It is still very good.

Having arranged to meet my wife, for lunch, I thought about going somewhere new,so decided on West Byfleet, looking through all the restaurants online, I luckily came across Jane Upstairs, and thought this could be nice.

I have been meaning to pop into Janes Upstairs for a while and finally managed to get round to it and now wish I hadn't waited so long! Both the service and food were great! I would highly recommend!

Janes service was very good for such a group. As usual the food was excellent and there is a very good range of beverages, An excellent proposition , but note although the stairs are steep they are narrow with handrails both sides so easier than you might imagine, Very good value too.

We have seen the sign for this place for many years and heard great things about it. The fish was fresh and tasty. The service was good. It was an unexpected experience for a fish and chip shop.

We visit Jane's several times a year. This time I had roast chicken, my friend Haddock. We know the fish is excellent,,,and so was the Chicken, Chips just perfect, Creme brulee and meringue with raspberries very good, Good choice of wines by the glass, Very good service, Average prices.

A very good meal, friendly staff. The stairs were quite steep for our elderly godmothers. We’ll be back!

Had a wonderful meal at Janes Upstairs, all the staff were very friendly, especially Jane, who has a wonderful sense of humour. You won't find better food anywhere, they make all their own starters and desserts and the fish and chips are superb.

An impromptu booking on a recent Friday night and we were very pleased indeed. "Upstairs" has a lovely ambience and I would say that most people dressed smart/casual. The staff are very welcoming and friendly, as well as efficient. I had grilled lemon sole, which was delicious and the warm bread to start was gorgeous! Silver service when offering gherkins, pickled onions etc., a lovely touch. There were no disappointments whatsoever, even the desserts were delicious. We would have no hesitation in returning, thank you.

I attended Janes upstairs in West Byfleet with a friend recently as we fancied fish and chips for supper but did not want it take a way. I have often driven past this restaurant so i suggested it to my friend. We parked very close outside on the road and went up. We had a warm and friendly welcome from Jane and Matt with lovely fresh bread and a ice cold jug of water on the table. We were then treated to some delicious appetisers that appeard on the table we asked Matt what he would recommed and we placed our orders. A short time later we had a very tasty sharing plate of calamari whitebait prawn skewer and scampi with some dipping sauces. Then the main event beautifully crisp batterd fresh fish and golden chips, we had some mushy peas (not with mint like some places do) and i had aked for curry sauces as my friend has never had it.The curry sauces was fantasic! tasty, honest, friendly dining experience i will recommend and i will be coming back. well done guys.

Had been meaning to try Jane’s upstairs for a while now and was not disappointed when I finally visited last week.

Great food, great service but you probably won't know that it is there until someone tells you about it. A hidden gem of a restaurant.

We hadn’t been here for a while, but our recent visit reminded us that this is a perhaps surprisingly decent restaurant. Good range of seafood and other dishes, including starters and home-made puds. If you actually go for fish n chips, you’ll get quality fish, good batter and mounds of chips served family-style. Bread and butter, pickled onions, you get the idea. Otherwise there are “posher” choices a la grilled sole, and fresh daily specials. The decor is now pretty classy and there’s a short, predictable, but perfectly adequate wine selection. It’s humble, but if it were on the quayside in Padstow, I believe it would have quite a reputation. Keep it up, Jane and crew!

Went to restaurant on a quiet midweek night, so had plenty of attention, but with the natural friendliness of the staff, I would imagine even if very busy customers would still get first class service, Food nice and fresh and very tasty, would visit again if in the area.

We visited Janes Upstairs again to get our “fix” of fish and chips and as usual were absolutely delighted with the experience. The food is fantastic - the batter round the really fresh fish was light and crispy, and the chips were perfect. Reasonably priced wine to wash it down with. Excellent, friendly service. This family owned and run business deserves continuing success. (Steep stairs but worth the climb!)

We've been to Janes Upstairs many times and it never disappoints. We went there straight from Gatwick having flown back from Spain and enjoyed excellent Skate and Chips with mushy peas - just what the doctor ordered. Being from a fishing port, I know a bit about fish and chips and this is as good as it gets. Looking forward to the next time.

I do not award many five stars, but Janes is eligible. Service and main course fish food excellent( no starters tried),Sweets of rhubarb pie and creme brulee first class, Good choice of wines by the glass, Booking not essential at lunchtime, but it is in the evening.

I'm a regular at Jane's Upstairs I've never been let down with the food. The waiters and waitresses are extremely friendly. Always quick to offer help on choices of food. The food is inexpensive and is great for a crowds.

We have been going to Jane's Upstairs for many years now and have never been disappointed. The staff are always extremely professional, friendly and polite.The fish is always very fresh and beautifully cooked. We love the never ending supply of chips, gherkins, pickled onions and sauces. Sadly, we couldn't manage a dessert! My daughter had salmon which was cooked to perfection too. The restaurant is always spotlessly clean. Thank you for another lovely meal.

This is a stunning little restaurant above the fish and chip shop. Don’t be put off by this as the decor and crockery/glasses are high quality and the service is both friendly and efficient.

Jane's up stairs provided a wonderful services. Our waiter was fantastic, knowledgeable and very friendly. I love the style of the restraunt, it may be small but it has a lot of heart and a great feel that makes you feel like your on the coast. My wife and I had the calamari to start which was fresh and cooked to perfection.

I have been visiting Jane's Upstairs and the Superfish restaurant and take away downstairs for as long as they have been open and without doubt they are the best fish and chips in Surrey. Maybe it's because everything is cooked in beef dripping (vegetarians aware!) but I suspect it's because the staff have been working at this restaurant for years and they simply know how to cook damn good fish and chips.

So cool to find a place like this. Don’t know of any restaurant that does Fish and Chips like this.

Fish was good but badly let down by the chips. Bitty, some hard some soggy, lots of little bits of chips, like we got the last pickings but it was 6.30 on a friday so would expect them at their best.

Another excellent meal at this lovely fish restaurant. Everything was spot - the food, the menu, the ambience and the staff. You always receive a warm welcome regardless of how busy they are. The food was excellent and served by polite, efficient staff. Nothing is too much trouble for Jane and her team.

Omg. Simply the best fish and chips. The moby dick was a piece of cod that had everything except the harpoon. Chip were great as were the pickles. I like this place because it’s not trying to be anything other than a friendly space for family and friends to gather and just eat fish and chips. Oh and few special deserts I feel duty bound to mention the butterscotch tart. I had to buy two extra to take home.

Met my friends in Jane’s Upstairs which is our regular meeting place. It was so busy and it was only Tuesday night!

Been eating here for years, best fish and chips around. The staff are so friendly and welcoming we always make sure to book on a Friday.

Mixed opinions on this place to be honest. A couple times I've had fish and chips from here and it's been lovely. Other times it's been bad, but today it was RAW. Not happy.
