The good was really good and hospitality was amazing

Caribbean restaurants have a reputation but this establishment sets the standard of what our food should be and how it should be served. The shelves are full with fresh looking food with home-made cakes to tempt you, the necessary information on small chalk boards (reminding you that the food was made recently and suggesting that on another day it could be a different cake?!!). I was greeted in a warm and welcoming manner, allowed spaceto think and choose, and the fact that I changed my mind was no problem; in fact I was invited to come back and try what I missed on another day. The kitchen is visible as is Chef, reassuring me that her food was being prepared honestly. The menu is refreshingly uncomplicated, clear and everything was in stock. The star of the show is the smoked menu-you can smell its aroma as you walk in and the quality meat has that BBQ jerk flavour I only ever tasted in Jamaica. The gospel music was at a level to be a comforting reminder of how we do things in food shops (and the barbers!) and the decor is classy with Caribbean references in the colours and materials in a slick contemporary way. The food was just right. The Jerk Pork portion was generous with no fat , the rice cooked perfectly and the sauce was just the right amount. I feel the price reflected the portion and quality spot-on. I was asked to give a review which I never like doing however the relaxed way I was approached led to me not only to writing this but rushing back to recommend the restaurant to my colleagues with a menu; again something I would never normally do. All in all, an extremely pleasant experience with a confident, un-intimidating professionalism which left me brimming with pride and one FULL belly! First food spot we tried in Hugh Wycombe, firstly want to say how lovely the lady that served us was! The food on the other hand was unrealll, best fried chicken ever and the patties are incredible. Also they make the punches them selves, would highly recommend trying!!

First time being in high Wycombe and this place looked cool. Food was great and the lady serving was extremely nice. Highly recommend the patties, Fried chicken and pineapple punch as that is what I tried. I’m sure the rest of the food is great too. Will be coming whenever I’m in the area

Popped in after some shopping to find they do lots of vegan options. Cakes, pastries and curries. Cynthia was genuine and very very friendly with lots of recommendations. 5 star deserved before I even tried the food. Venue was clean and had a had a good atmosphere. Andrew’s cooking is fantastic, can’t wait to come back. I’d never order online because these big companies take 30% cut of all orders. Small businesses like this are a true gem.

Would have preferred food to be in a plastic container rather than a box especially with gravy involved which left the box very soggy. The food was ok. Stewed chicken was very boney and fried chicken lacked flavour.

Ordered on Uber. So delicious. Portions were so good. Mac and cheese was amazing. We had curried goat and there was so much meat. 5* we will be ordering again.

First time ordering from here I ordered a curry goat and mac and cheese and the curry goat was dry and the coleslaw portion was literally nothing. Didn't enjoy unfortunately won't order from him again.

For Large meals there was barely any meat definately not worth £15!!!

Really overpriced for the portion sizes and food not so tasty as it used to be.

I love this place. Wonderful owners who genuinely care for people. They offer an excellent service with a smile. The food is delicious. Well worth a visit. I will be there at least once a week to try something new on the menu. See you on Sunday again.

Friday night take away… this one’s a must. Had an order of curried goat, jerk chicken burgers, beef brisket burgers and plantain and it did not disappoint. One of the best Caribbean takeaways I’ve had in long time!

Great food, tried multiple dishes and the advice from the staff was perfect for meal combos. We ordered and then took the food home, just under 20 mins to get everything ready so we were happy. Definitely will be back, great atmosphere and the food felt abd tasted like it was home cooked, we loved it.

Wife and I had a curried goat, smoked jerk chicken and a side of jerk chicken legs. The rice was beautiful, the pineapple punch was very refreshing and the chicken was crisp. Would 100 per cent be returning.

I didn’t get to taste the food because the service over the phone was absolutely dreadful and unprofessional.

Curry goat and rice absolutely delicious. Unfortunately the Fried chicken was extremely dry. And food arrived cold. I tried to write review and just eat replied saying they will investigate for a refund. No refund required!

I really enjoyed this was over from leicester on a business trip me and my colleague. We both had the curry mutton rice n pea with coleslaw. We Operations for a resturant business that has over 15 fine dining locations so our spec of what food should be is ten ten as you can imagine. It was amazing hot perfect with bones as you don't get flavour from fillet meat. Lady even though she gave me her name i forgot. We will be back next time for sure to try more of the menu regretting it now. Thanks for service love to see the independent stores doing well. Things like the last review happens doesn't mean all is bad. Keep your drive and energy. All the best

Unfortunately the food was late and although not cold it was far from being hot. We ordered fried chicken but the my had run out of it and substituted with wings which was ok but would rather have had the fried chicken. Also note we ordered the mega smoked feast meal with 3 sides. We got 4 dumplings and one small pot of rice barely enough for 2 let alone 4. Overall a disappointing experience.

The food has really improved. But the jerk chicken sometimes isn't cooked that nice and looks a little pink. Their food is nice but it can give you the runs.

My wife and I ate here the other day and had a lunch we were not disappointed, I had the chicken burger and chips and my wife had the pumpkin & sweet potato curry, it was so good we ordered food to take away for dinner which was also delicious, we’ll be back the next time we’re back in the area.

Amazing flavours , great service, good sized portions. Proper smoker too. The staff were very helpful, the restaurant was clean and had the vibe I expect from a West Indian. Got to say the best I been too and will be dining again. 10/10

So excited when I saw the menu. Ordered the jerk chicken and smoked beef rib with rice & pea, plantain and coleslaw. There was a wait but the place was clean and the service friendly. Sadly the food was a big disappointment, particularly the smoked rib which had not a hint of smoke or seasoning. The rice also had no seasoning and was dry. The plantains weren’t crisp but soggy and the coleslaw was just ok. For the price £40+ I was expecting great flavour but it just didn’t hit the mark. The only reason I gave two stars was the chicken had a bit of flavour but certainly did not have enough of the smokey jerk taste you would expect. Definitely will not be returning.

We lost so many establishments due to covid...but the ones that still exist and that are suceeding are doing so because of 3 things. Being hospitable (its is hospitality, after all) Good quality diverse product And well good vibes. And trust frrom someone that has been at the forefront of this industry for 20+ years.. THESE GUYS HAVE GOT ALL 3 DOWN!!!! GWWWAAN.

Very disappointed with this one. Photos show one story and reality very different. Check the burger they advertise and what you get. Speaking of short ribs, this long rib was no wear near a smoked fire, tested like it was in the oven for a few hours, chewy as hell. Definitely not worth the costs. Disappointed.

What’s has happened!!?? We have ordered from this place before & the jerk chicken was unreal… We had the same meal tonight & it was dry, pale, white chicken (had to cover it in sauce) I’m convinced there are new people in kitchen. Surely???? Very disappointed, especially after paying £45 for basically just a chicken breast I could of made at home - if not better.

Not good. Only received half the order then the quality of the meal was not good at all. If you have ever eaten authentic Caribbean food then you would know that this was like a ready meal. Waste of £29 for 2 meals when only 1 arrived.

Stunning food, loved the stew chicken and dumplings, the Mac and cheese was more like a Mac and cheese pie. But, still good!

My husband and I were in High Wycombe for our wedding anniversary and fancy some caribbean food. James Williams Diners did not disappoint us at all. Great quality meal. Was pleasantly surprised with the portion size too. The meat was extremely tender and it had tons of flavour. Was delivered quickly ( in-fact I hadn’t finished putting my son to bed, so it sat on the side for a good 10-15 minutes and it was still piping hot when I managed to eat it). Would definitely order from here again!

Absolutely incredible authentic Carribean food. The JWD smoke feast was so tasty and the Escovitch fish was cooked perfectly. Great service and would highly recommend!

Wow…. Where do i start. This was my first experience and time visiting JWD and i can honestly say they come in at a minimum of 8.5/10, minimum. I can say confidently that this is the best Caribbean Joint in Wycombe ive tasted (challenges welcomed). I have had a couple dodge experiences in the area and i can say this places stands tall above the rest. I like good food, so if I’m taking time to write a review in this much detail, best believe the food and service is worth it. From the drink, to main dish (normally play it safe with a curried goat but the end result kicked any doubts), to the dumpling and pattie… even the slaw was tasty. I highly recommend JWD, especially for those that crave a little taste of authentic Caribbean food! I’ll definitely be back and write all of this only halfway through my order haha JWD, you will be seeing much more of me :)
