Thank you Jalali for restoring my faith in hospitality and kindness. As a solo traveller to the area I was very disappointed to be turned away from 2 venues in Tamworth for being ‘on my own’ One venue could clearly have accomodated me but chose not too as clearly a chap eating on his own was bad for business. Thankfully I then happened upon Jalali and a very warm welcome. They quickly accommodated me and gave me a very warm welcome caring enough to find out that I had a lonely mission to accomplish while here and being very understanding. The food, like the welcome was excellent and the careful attention from the staff was most welcome. True Indian hospitality and I highly recommend this little gem to others. Thank you 💯

Did Jalali meet with 'greatness' the arabic meaning, or was it more 'Jalali-bad', not the Afghanistan capitol but referring to lacking greatness? The Jalali 'Indian' restaurant occupies the former Congregational Chapel built between 1920's-30's. Worthy of 'conservation' status it retains the tall triple lancet window. Settings and Service - Personally I like re-purposing buildings, the tall windows are visible inside. Now onto the food and service. We had a good time here. We walked in, apparently booking is usually necessary on a Sat'. I joined our group of six sometime after and they hadn't been asked for orders which req'd prompting by me. The waiter got the order right. The table a little small for six but managed to remove items not needed, stack nan's etc. The group did notice the delay taking orders and for food to arrive was lengthy, which must have been felt by staff as the main staff member did apologise they'd been busy that night. Personally, I felt the time for orders was just right, allowing conversation we intended to have before the meal. Everywhere doesn't have to be Wagamama's where they dish the food instantly to get rid of you quickly. The food verdict. The pauperdoms arrived soon after ordering, as they do. These weren't the best sauces I'm more used to. Very sweet and I agree with a previous Google review, syrupy. Normally I'd expect a chutney (my fav) a mint, a slightly bitter sauce, a yogurt sauce, but these I recall were all sweet. Made full use of them, but I'm not a sweet fan. I discussed with waiter three choices and went with his opinion the Naga (hot) would be best. I enjoyed it. Often finding vindaloo not hot enough for me, this didn't seem hot at first, but exactly as waiter described, the heat built gently. By the end I had a warm glow I like. I could have gone hotter, but nice not to blow the lid off for once. Again, when I started I could taste the sweetness, that wore off, but indicates higher sugar levels. The Special Nans were excellent. We all enjoyed the food I believe. Added benefit, I feel great the next morning, not always the case with Indian food. The price verdict. Prices are keen on the menu for dishes. Typically £10 a dish. Adding the necessary extras of rice, nans, tarka dhal all adds up of course, but on the whole, reasonable. I see before comments drinks expensive. I'd have to disagree for the compulsory beer or cider. They have two Cobra's on draught, the newer one being a pale ale. I'd prefer Kingsfisher, but I accept 'Cobra is King' at most places and the normal Cobra was for me the better choice over Cobra's new addition; and it was good cool tasting too. Both Cobra and cider bottle were just south of £5 each, which is reasonable not expensive. Bear in mind we're not far from the brewing capitol of the country, Burton on Trent for beer! The soft drinks were exactly the same price for large, £5, which I think was expensive for a syrup/water drink which has not gone through the craftsman brewing skills required for beer. The total bill did seem more expensive than expected. It seemed the 'bar' drinks lines had over costed and there was a squiggle on the bill we didn't understand or could account for. There was no 'quibbles with the squiggles' and the bill was promptly reduced about £10 to correct. Conclusion - I'd like to give 5 stars, but in fairness I give 4/5 because for me the pauperdom sauces were very sweet, may suit someone else perfectly of course. I liked the service but to be critical our group seemed to have been ignored until I approached the bar. The main food was very good and the prices were inline and reasonable. Drink prices for beer are very reasonable, soft drinks appear expensive. Good re-purposing of a former chapel. Staff are affable. Would we go back? Yes definitely. Do I recommend? Yes, again definitely, but if you've read through then take onboard my points above, you may or may not agree, but this is based on my genuine experiences.

Wasn’t a lot of options in walking distance from our hotel, but this was near. The place seems a little dated- not much in the way of decoration inside. A fountain with koi pecking as moldy fake pedals was the only thing to look at really. The food is…meh. The garlic naan doesn’t seem to have much actual garlic on it or garlic flavor. Maybe just butter with some garlic powder in it? The pappadams were weird and all the sauces with them seemed overly sweet…almost syrupy. The chicken tikkas was lacking a bit in flavor too, and a bit sweeter than I would have expected. Lamb curry dish I had had a lot of spicy heat, which was nice but didn’t seem to have much flavor from actual spices either. Maybe Tamworth wasn’t the best place to expect to find the Indian food that the UK is famous for.

If I can give a zero rating, I would especially for family who would like to take their children to the restaurant. My baby had a sick incident in the restaurant, the staff came with a rude gesture implying that it was disgusting. My husband ended up kneeling on the floor and cleaned up the mess. During the conversation with their manager, we were told we are wasting their time as they are not a childminder in taking care of peoples mess. We don't think cleaning up the mess was a big issue but the fact that their carelessness of their customers and especially vulnerables is not acceptable.

The Jalili was a highlight of our trip to Tamworth. The restaurant itself is a wonderful environment, and this is backed up by friendly and helpful staff. I could tell the food was going to be great by the quality of their spiced papadoms. (Seriously - most restaurant's spiced papadoms are pretty awful). This encouraged me to move away from my usual standard selections and go for their Adraki lamb. It was sensational. Good quality lamb, and a magical sauce with the perfect amount of heat. I can't recommend Jalili highly enough.

Had a great evening at the Jalali with a group of 15 friends. The side room was great for our group without fear of annoying other diners on a Sunday evening. The food arrived together exactly as per order in a timely manner and was very tasty as ever. We’ve been eating here for 20 years and is our go-to for great eastern cuisine. Staff were very friendly and made us all feel at home. Would thoroughly recommend the Jalali. For a big party we took the advice of Naseem to share the price of the food and pay for our drinks individually which worked really well. Well done Team Jalali!

If I could give no stars, I would. Overpriced food, rude staff and the food isn't that great to be honest, lots better places in Tamworth. Judging by the replies when they receive negative feedback, they are blind to any criticism, quite childish. I'd steer well clear, much better places in Tamworth at reasonable prices. PLEASE NOTE, I HAVE VIOLATED GOOGLE POLICIES IN NO WAY, SHAPE OR FORM. THIS REVIEW IS BASED ON A TRUE ACCOUNT OF THE EXPERIENCE. MANY THANKS

First visit last night and we will definitely be going again. The food was out of this world, the tastes were amazing and the beef khalia was sensational, the beef was so tender you didn’t need a knife. The staff kept apologising for the delay, not that we noticed one, however we were compensated with free onion bhajis, which were excellent. The staff are so hard working and do a fantastic job. The tables are nicely spaced out so you have a level of privacy from neighbouring tables. I would not hesitate to recommend anyone to eat here, as for me I think I have just found my new top Indian restaurant.

First and foremost accusing someone of having a 'mental health problem' on a review platform is not only wrong but highly offensive to genuine people who do. Secondly I'm not angry mate, no tantrum involved. I wrote my review calmly and collectively based on the service I received. After reviewing the google policies, there is no way in any shape or form I personally have violated them. The facts are as follows: I dined with yourselves (as you've conceded) and paid my share of the bill (again as you've conceded) Raw chicken was served to once of our party (of which you originally conceded and partially apologized for) so in what way shape or form you think I'm violating google policies, I'll never know. You served out of date beer (of which you conceded and did actually apologise) All that being true, I'm entitled you review you. You don't like it - tough. I haven't been rude, offensive, fraudulent (you agree we dined with you). You can argue with all I've said but its irrelevant. If you quote me the part where I've broken google guidelines then I'd be happy to have a look. And for the record this is not a new account created to 'damage your reputation'. Its been active for many years and has reviewed other restaurants so to accuse me of being a secondary account for the primary guest is also false. Try and be a little bit more respectful when you get criticism btw. You might think by replying with offensive comments is the best way to deal with it but it really isn't. Just makes you look a bit silly. I was part of the main group that came in and was served raw chicken , given out of date cobra and hidden costs added to the bill. Only really writing this review as our original was removed for some unknown reason. Any review you post comes with a side order of back chat and arrogance for desert. Biggest bit of advice I can give you is double check your final bill against the menu for clarity and check dates on bottles if ordering them. If this review gets removed , will contact Google with receipts to prove our dining experience.

Really lovely looking restaurant. Decor really adds to the whole experience. The waterfall in the middle really makes you feel like you're in a super swanky place. We were seen too quickly and taken to our table. We had an 830 booking on a Friday night. It wasnt full but it was busy. There were many members of staff rushing about. Our food arrived an hour after being seated but this would take into consideration the time it took for us to look at the menu, order and then eat. Drinks came quickly and we were always checked on. Staff varied...one chap thought himself a comedian, he had all the jokes and we were fine with that. Another was super professional and attentive with a smile and another...seemed like he had served 1 too many samosas in his lifetime and was a bit more subdued and done. They apologised for the wait on food as they had a very large table order before us. We were fine but appriciated the communication. Food was delicious and hot everything you would expect from an Indian restaurant in the UK

I must say out of a number of Indian restaurants in tamworth we have tried this is by far our favourite one. The staff are always great and welcoming. My fiancee has a bit of banter with the one waiters who always tries to make it a great experience when we dine here. Then you get to the food which out the numerous times we have eaten here now is superb, its tasty, spicy if you want it and with decent portions. They will always make it how you want within reason of course and advise on their recommendations to try which have always been spot on for us. We take my mom as well who loves her dansak from here. But the madras, bhuna, balti and specials on the menu have all been lovely as well. Recommended.

Very clean place with a fountain in the midle. A great match for me. It's not about having the same or going tn the place around the corner. On this occasion the ladys fingers and the fresh Naan bread put this place on the map. Great food guys.

We were visiting the Assembly Rooms for my Wife's birthday and went to Jalali for a meal. It made the night with a great meal and really good service. The Restaurant is very pleasant with a good atmosphere.

The best Indian food I've had in a while. Lamb bhuna cooked properly, rice was delicious, and all other food was exceptional. Very good bottle of red wine (quite possibly cab sav) to finish. Just over £74 for three of us.

Best curry house in Tamworth for dining in and takeaway. The staff are really friendly, restaurant is always clean. Over the years we’ve tried lots of different dishes here but the best one by far is The Chefs Special Chicken Curry, best curry we’ve ever had and the curry we have every week. The Special Naan is also amazing. Picture is of the Chefs Special Chicken, only tipped 2/3rds on the plate (you get loads)

Very friendly welcome and service. Everything else average. Reminds me of similar restaurants circa 1982 when the dishes were a novelty “ooh what’s a jalfrezi? And different breads, who knew?”. Quality and quantity average. Nothing wrong and nothing great.

Came here for my 29th birthday. Was a really nice night with close family. My son loved looking at the fish in the little fountain. Hoping to go back again sometime

First time visiting today, have seen many people going in and out but never actually visited. Wow 5 stars all round, food was amazing and service was just as good. After many disappointing curry’s at other restaurants I’m Tamworth I can safely say this one wont disappoint! Thank you we will rerun.

Three of us dined here on Saturday 4th February having pre-booked 24 hours in advance. The food was ok but nothing special. Chicken Pathia was very spicy but hardly any sweetness at all and a chapati was undercooked in parts so quite stodgy. However, the food wasn't the main issue; having finished our main courses, the waiter then almost immediately put our bill on the table. We were not offered desserts, coffee, or any other drinks, although we hadn't even finished the drinks that we had on the table! Less than 5 minutes after the bill was delivered, another waiter came over, (I think he is the 'head waiter'), and said, "I don't mean to be rude, but I really need this table". We had been in the restaurant for less than 75 minutes! And we had booked! The problem is, they accept too many 'walk-ins' and then they rush the pre-booked tables because people are waiting for a table. This is the third time we have been here but this will be the last. There are plenty of other options for a nice Indian meal in Tamworth.

Hadn't visited for a long time (6yrs+) and was pleased to find nothing had changed. The charming old church setting with the central water feature is a sight to behold. The Food: Delicious, perfectly cooked, beautifully presented and plenty of it! The Service: Faultless. We won't leave it so long next time 👍

A beautiful church conversion houses this lovely, honest Bangladeshi restaurant. The staff are kind and welcoming and the food is fantastic. I had the slow cooked beef which was freshly cooked and carefully spiced. The king prawn sharishar baha is also stunning and quite a rare find.

This isn’t a bad place to go for Indian food but considering the food is average/slightly below average than every single other curry house you care to mention, it’s far too expensive for what is essentially average Indian food. £34 per head for a main a side and two drinks left our entire party stunned. The service was incredibly slow taking 50 minutes before starters were served. I don’t understand how this place gets so many good reviews. Like I say, it’s not bad but the negatives outweigh the positives

Just been for a bite to eat and from entering the restaurant to finally getting our main course took 2 hours and 10 minutes and the food arrived just luke warm. A very disappointing experience start to finish. I shall never go again
