Cabins were clean, warm and quiet. Ducks wandering about freely. That's about it. Unless you've very young or no children, this place is ok as a base, but wouldn't recommend spending days here. It feels like the place has been left to retire. The basketball court has no basket. The tennis court surface could use a clean. The swimming pool is closed and the Spey Valley pool is where you need to go. The defrib is out of order - this should definitely be one item that actually works. Tv signal drops regularly, so if planning late night tv, I'd bring a laptop or DVDs. We had a good time here, but definitely need to find activities out of the site.

All very dated and on our visit feels like the resort has been forgotten about. We'd decided on a last minute trip up to the Highlands national park and booked a last minute cabin. Arriving in late the check-in was closed and our keys were taped to the door. After finding out cabin we had to unload our luggage into the cabin of which the door was round the side, this meant walking in darkness until you reached the sensor light to turn on which wasn't ideal, after entering we noticed how dirty the carpets were and how the cabin smelled musty for the most part however it was clean, beds made and towels provided. Everything however felt extremely dated and the shower looked older than me (and what a racket it made when using it). We didn't sleep great either, either we're too used to a king, or it was a small double or it was just the mattress but we tossed and turned all night and couldn't get comfy. The surroundings also freaked my other half out but I blame that on us getting in late as the next day seeing the area in the daylight we realised how beautiful the location was, surrounding a loch it's great location. However, I know it was off peak, but the place just felt abandoned, the leisure facilities were closed and by the looks of it, it's been that way for some time. Rather than stay another night we just decided to make our way home after the visit to the wildlife park. It might all be different on peak times but it needs some serious investment to make it feel like it's not just been forgotten about.

Great location. Friendly staff and welcome on arrival. 20 mins from Aviemore and 5 mins from landmark adventure park. Cabins are a bit dated, but they are clean. Looks like new kitchen and bathroom was installed. We paid £166 for 2 nights which is good value for money. We could have had up to 6 people staying. Cabins are dog friendly at an additional cost. Everything you need is available for a break away. Kitchen utensils, iron, towels, good shower, bath. TV in lounge and bedroom. Lovely to have ducks and peacock milling around outside in the morning. Pool and bar on site which we didn't use, but nice to have the option. Check in at 5 but we got in at 4 which was great. Cheap and cheerful and although dated, I believe they are doing work on cabins over the winter months. You get what you pay for though so I'm hoping the cost doesn't go up too much!

Great traditional woodland cabins, comfortable and basic but everything we needed. The grounds are lovely, some things a little tired looking and could be doing with upgrading. Have to say the staff were lovely and very helpful. The prices in the bar are very high so it is very quiet because of this. I would definitely go back as it is great value for money and a short drive to Aviemore x

The resort staff were so friendly. The cabins were spotlessly clean. But, the overall resort needs the parent company to step up and make capital improvements. As in, the big money investments. There’s a bridge that’s obviously been closed for a while. It makes the guests walk twice as far to get to the pool, bar, laundry. Paths need heavy duty work, despite being maintained. Woodwork is worn. These aren’t things staff can fix or maintain. These are things that will require large investments. Sadly, many won’t see past these to realize what a lovely place this is. Minutes from Carrbridge by foot, but tucked away in the trees, it’s a wonderful place. The bedrooms are absolutely TINY. So, be ready. But, the couch bed is actually comfy, which almost never happens. The kitchen is great, and laid out well. Get your groceries in nearby Aviemore. No shop onsite. The sunroom is absolutely the best part of the cabin. Loved sitting there listening to the rain & reading. And eating breakfast in there every morning. This is a beautiful spot that simply needs its owners to pay attention to it before it is too late.

. Lodge 12- good location . Set further out into woods with a good view from the dining area. . For 3 adults it was cosy enough in the lounge/ kitchen. Kitchen facilities basic and suffice to our needs. . Well heated and warm during our stay. . Queen size bed ok. We don’t move much in our sleep. Walls both sides of bed can be a squeeze for the larger built person. . The surrounding areas are much more suitable for active young children with and activity trail for them to explore. Penny the pea hen and her entourage of ducks are worth mentioning as entertaining as they are. Yes , I could happily go back there again, this being my second stay in that resort.

Have been visiting this site since the mid 80s, many happy memories made here. Beautiful surroundings with peaceful, well equiped lodges and friendly staff. Would prefer the bunk beds to be reinstalled and better management of the facilities: it's all about the Loch - which has not been stalked (because of covid); the 'Trim Trail' is quite neglected and needs brought back to life; the restaurant and bar need to be open more; a jacuzzi would be good; the tennis and mini-tennis/basketball courts look abandoned and could be cleaned and flood-lit like most other outdoor court facilities; nowadays especially... people love take away food - perhaps a well lit glass-fronted take away bar could be offered; a wee shop stall with bread, milk, locally produced whiskies, shortbread and other goods and gifts would be great! The larch trees make a mess with needle shed, some should be removed and replaced with pines; perhaps a small hide could be installed to get closer to birds, red squirrels and pine martens etc? I would love to give 5 stars for this resort, as it is my most favourite place on earth, but it needs a wee bit more to get that 5 star review 🙂

Beautiful site and location, in mixed woodland on the outskirts (20 min walk) of Carr Bridge. Staff extremely friendly and helpful. Chalets are small and basic but nicely decorated with a lovely conservatory. Some of the fixtures and fittings (notably shower and mattresses) are old, tired, and no longer adequate. Bar very basic, often closed early. Restaurant good, great food cooked on barbeque/smoker. Pool and leisure facilities a bit tired looking, but still fun. Carr Bridge has at least one excellent local hotel (Cairn) and plenty of other amenities (mainly outdoor). Kids club/games room on site still closed after covid restrictions lifted (no staff to run it?). Bridge over the wee lochan (much featured on sales pitch) is rotten and has been closed for months, apparently. Overall still a nice place to be, thanks to the location and great staff, but starting to look seriously neglected by the operator.

Nice private lodge, although a little dated with a fused lightbulb or two (not a huge issue). Seems like a good place to getaway in groups as the lodges are a good distance from each other - not too close or too far away. We particularly like the tranquility and the convenience of location, 15mins drive to Aviemore with lots of shops, 10mins walk away from Carrbridge where there are a small number of restaurants on days you don't feel like sorting your own tea. The on-site restaurant is also dated, not a wide selection of drinks however the food we had was superb - so still worth a visit!

We have been coming many years and the standard has gone down considerably. The lodge didn't look as if it had been cleaned, apart from the bed and towels. There was hair in the bath, the dining & coffee tables were all marked and there was crumbs on all the dining chairs. The outside entrance was a mess with dust and leaves, very off-putting. The kitchen area was not well stocked at all, no bread bin, milk & sugar, & grill pan was full of dried on fat. Very disappointing. I certainly wouldn't like to be paying £400+ maintenance fees for it doesn't look as if any maintenance is done. The windows and outside of the lodges are a mess. The restaurant menu wasn't very good either. All in all totally disappointing.

The chalet we stayed in was really well appointed with a good sized seating and kitchen area. The main bedroom was compact with a small double bed which was unfortunately really uncomfortable (the chalet could apparently sleep 6 which would definitely have been a squeeze!!). Our chalet overlooked the small lake which was lovely and it’s a great base for exploring the local area with the little village of Carr Bridge just a 5 minute drive away. However, there are a few negatives...... Firstly check in isn’t until 17:00 with check out by 10 at the latest!! If you want to check in from 15:00 they charge £29! The whole place needs some TLC and looks quite run down when you arrive. The pool was open (you had to book a slot) but you couldn’t use the sauna or the gym. The tennis court needed resurfacing and the ‘basketball’ ring was broken. There was no bar or restaurant on site due to the fallout from COVID and no shop either. Despite this we were still charged over £300 for three nights self catering and you have to pay for electricity (thankfully they provided the wifi for free although originally this was going to be charged at £15 a day)!!

We've just returned from a three night stay using an itison voucher. The price was great for 3 nights but now we realise why. On arrival at Lodge 18 we found the place extremely outdated and smelling particularly old, damp and of cigarette smoke. The furniture was old, worn and mostly uncomfortable, especially the beds. Both of our backs are left feeling worse than ever. The carpets are also old and the cheapest of quality. The front door lock is a very basic twist lock which doesn't provide much confidence in security and the interior door handles were on their way out too, with the door to the conservatory being the worst. The exterior of the lodge is rotten in places and poorly maintained, with decaying leaves layering the conservatory roof. Our lodge had the benefit of views toward the bins and piles of discarded timber, and neighbouring lodges look directly into bedroom and living room, offering little privacy. The lodge was freezing cold, with very basic panel heaters for warmth. There was also a fake electric stove which did provide decent warmth but was stood upon a fake slate slab (plastic) that meant the stove slid around and fell off whenever touched - a nightmare with kids around, not to mention dangerous. We had to pay for the electricity as well, which doesn't help you feel comfortable when you're worried about how much it'll cost to heat an inefficient old lodge. 4G coverage is good but since we booked through a third party we would also have to pay for wifi (£10) which boggles my mind in 2020. Cleanliness was generally okay, although there was still hair left in the bath, items of cutlery not washed properly, and a cigarette and lighter left I'm the bottom drawer of the single room storage (where our 3 year old was sleeping). Clearly people are smoking in there anyway despite the ban, as that would explain the smell. When I mentioned this to the girl at reception (who was generally nice) she just showed her surprise but never thought to apologise. The play park near reception was also rotten, with all the apparatus showing signs of decay and slats missing from the little bridge, which slipped out of place when played on. The real bridge which crosses the small loch also looked particularly weathered, soft and rotten. Basically the whole park is in a state of poor maintenance or none at all and needs total renovation. I'm sure in the summer it benefits from more sunlight and colour from plants and flowers but in winter it's a bleak, miserable place that looks like everyone suddenly vanished in the 1950s and never came back. I would have mentioned all these grievances on location but unfortunately no one bothered to ask the simple question "How was your stay?" or even just how our holiday was. We did have a nice holiday but seen as this is a review for the accommodation I'm not bringing that into consideration. We're very disappointed and will not be returning, nor would we recommend it to anyone.

This year we found a couple of issues, we reported these to the reception immediately and within a day, might have been sooner, as we went out walking, all little issues were fixed/resolved, fantastic. We come as 2 adults but there seems to be plenty for young folk to do and the mums and dads we have spoken to were more than happy. Shops nearby in the form of Aviemore, although limited shops within Carr Bridge. Real fun place to be, mustn't forget Jakes, although independent from the site you could not ask for a better place to eat. Have visited this resort many times over the years as it is well positioned for touring a large and interesting area of Scotland. BUT the lodges must be in the order of 40 years old and are not up to the standard that is expected in this day and age. They are very small in all areas and show their age quite badly in some cases. They are heated by electric panel heaters and if the unit is not occupied continuously they become very damp. Our clothes in the wardrobes and drawers required to be washed on arrival home, even those that were not worn. Large investment required to bring it into the 21st century, I as a retired Building Services Manager would state.

Staying at the MacDonald Lochanhully Resort with our 3 children (9,5 and 2). On arrival we booked a table for an early dinner at Jake's. They did inform us that they currently had a private hen party in who would be staying on for dinner but that the 'shennanigans' would be done by then. Our table was right next to the hen party which wasn't an issue, the 'Same Penis Forever' banner was a little unfortunate, my 9 yr old son had LOTS of questions but we're not prudes so all good. We were also right next to the dessert cabinet so of course the 2 yr old wanted to look at the cakes and pick her favourite. Now there was a note on the children's menu asking to ensure that 'little ones remain in their seats'. I took this to mean don't let them run riot which we would never do in a restaurant anyway. However as soon as my youngest walked over to the dessert cabinet we were pounced upon by a waitress and told to keep her in her seat. She said it was because the door to the kitchen swings open. Hmm..I ordered the lime and sweet chilli salmon parcel. When it arrived the 'parcel' referred to the greaseproof paper it had been baked in. It had unfortunately been taken with slices of lime on top of the fish rather than just lime juice squeezed in the marinade. This led to a nasty bitter flavour which was only slightly masked by the sickly sweet chilli sauce which I suspect was from a bottle. Served with plain, dry rice and some broccoli, cauliflower and carrots, I did wonder how they could justify the £18.95 price tag..choking down a spoonful of dry rice and bitter salmon, my two youngest who had finished, walked round the table to my seat. My 5 yr old was standing RIGHT NEXT to our table talking to her Daddy, my 2 yr old was under our table at my feet (it's a phase she's going through). They were absolutely not running about or getting in the way of anyone. I actually was impressed with how well they had sat..Immediately a server walking past demanded that they sit on their seats. Last straw for me I'm afraid I took my youngest two and walked out leaving my husband and son to finish off and pay. We didn't leave a tip...

We had a fantastic meal at Jakes. Lovely decor and spacious. Good to hear the Eagles playing in the background too. (The Rock band that is).

Love it here but aware of inflated charges Electricity is very overpriced The fact you can’t check in until 1700 and have to be out by 10.00 means in effect you are losing a day The lodges are very clean Reception staff and Ruth are excellent Beautiful countryside and very dog friendly

We visited the lochanhully resort as a family of 16 ranging from weeks old to over 70 - the service we received in this restaurant was outstanding. We ate in the restaurant for 2 dinners a lunch and breakfast - everyone of our party enjoyed every item of food. The staff were amazing and attended to our every need going above and beyond. Would highly recommend. The prices were also very reasonable and cocktails were delicious. A true jewel in the crown for this resort.

We visited Jake's Bar on Saturday afternoon for a family meal. The food was lovely and the menu had a great selection to choose from. The price of meals was also very fair.

Only a flying visit to Lochanhully just visiting our family holiday when I was still a young girl on the 80 to 90s. Great to see aspects still there like the activities around the loch and up in the treetops. Was pleased to see someone has taken over the bar and restaurant Jakes. We went in for a cup of tea and a cake amazing!!! Keep up the good work Jake and his family you have brought back great place to come to eat or just have a catch up over a cup of tea or coffee. Next time I'm up to will be coming back for a meal at Jakes. It's nice to see the old lodges and improvements over the years. The only shock was to see no ski slop as a child enjoyed running up and down it.
