This restaurant has been recently refurbished and under a new management. I am confident to say the food is now even better! Every dish we ordered was delicious and full of flavours. Excellent service and we were asked twice how was the food and everything. Highly recommended and will definitely come again!

Old resteraunt rebranded same chef but now trying harder great sevice bit long too wait but so worth it for generous food serving for both me and my wife who asked for leftover to be put in takeaway box - done with a smile Ask nicely and the chef throws in jasmine tea for 2 Taste was authentic Asian with all the right spices and condiments We have been coming here for 21 years So pleased with new management service and pleasant atmosphere and music

I have been coming to Jakartas for many years. The vegetarian curry was absolutely fabulous; great flavours, fresh vegetables and new version also has tofu. The spring rolls seemed to be handmade and such a generous portion for a starter. Chicken Pad Thai did not cease to disappoint. Food well presented with an excellent service by such friendly and attentive staff. Compliments to the chef for wonderful food. Wishing you all the success on the New Jakarta. We will be back with the rest of the family

Amazing food, great place, and fantastic service! If you want to try authentic Indonesian food in London, you should really give this place a go! The portion was humongous, so it was really worth the price. They have a bunch of options, ranging from appetizer, mains, desserts, and even mocktail. The ambience itself is very classy yet somehow homey. The owner is very kind and the staff are also very helpful. Its also located very close to Wisma Indonesia, even have house service so you could order from Wisma Indonesia without having to leave the house. So for all of you Indonesian fellas who are feeling homesick, this place will definitely remind you of home. Would definitely visit this place again soon!

Was a friends birthday, decided to pop in for some dinner and had a wonderful experience, food was great.

I went to New Jakarta few days ago and I must say it was one of the best South East Asian food I had in recent years. Food was very fresh and authentic. We had Chilli Prawn and the Laksa which was simply wowww. It is also worth mentioning it was certaibly value for money in fact I can go as far as to say it was too cheap. The service was also super friendly and attentive. Highly recommended!!!

I went to visit this restaurant after I heard it had been freshly refurbished and can confidently say it is one of the BEST restaurants in the area. I had the laksa and Beef randang as a set platter for 2 and it was delicious! Charlie, our server, made sure to explain the menu carefully to us and was extremely friendly and patient! Absolutely amazing Indonesian restaurant which is hard to find!

Really amazing food and service. The owner Amat was super helpful and accommodating. The food was 10/10 The food is as authentic as it can get. I had the Mie Goreng and it was really flavoursome. This place is a real hidden gem and it's highly recommended. Good job guys!

Atmosphere has been spoiled with the new bland decor. All the amazing wood carvings and large frogs GONE! Even the constant well in the centre GONE. Thank goodness the staff and food still good. But what a shame the new owners think magnolia walls and stark modernism works.

The food is delicious but there aren't many options. The service is good and friendly. The decoration of the restaurant is clean and spacious, but there are no photo spots.

First, I deplore dishonesty. The New Jakarta Website stated that ‘New Jakarta is an Award Winning Restaurant that has been established over 30 years’. That is gross misrepresentation. Be aware that the New Jakarta restaurant is only about three weeks old at the time of writing (late July 2024). The old Jakarta restaurant closed at the end of April 2024 – it was that which attracted hundreds of excellent reviews (including mine) and won those awards. The New Jakarta is radically different from the old one, as I shall explain below. It has no right to trade on the reputation of its predecessor. Be aware that (old) Jakarta closed at the end of April 2024 for what was termed ‘Refurbishment’, which is so often a sign that the place has closed down for good. However, two months later a bland new sign appeared above the door – replacing the classy original - and reading ‘New Jakarta’. Having been a regular there for over 20 years, I feared the worst and, when it reopened early in July, my worst fears proved justified. I look for three things when eating out: quality and variety of food, friendly and welcoming staff and ‘ambiance’ – that is, the surroundings. Before it closed for ‘refurbishment’, I placed Jakarta as the very best in all three fields and I posted a Google review stating that. My views were shared by more than 400 other reviewers. I was shocked on entering the New Jakarta. Everything that made Jakarta unique and successful had been ripped out. The beautiful wooden artefacts on the walls, the huge green wooden frog at the entrance, the wooden sculptured hands and the lovely water feature in the centre had all disappeared. The wooden tables had been replaced with formica-topped ones. The brown bench seats around the perimeter had been replaced with awful bright blue ones; the walls had been painted white, the lighting comprised attractive, orange-coloured lamps on the ceilings and garish white lamps on the walls. The whole theme had changed from ‘Far East’ to ‘1970s Transport Café’. So much for the ambiance. Happily, the warm welcome was still there; the very pleasant woman who served us was a reminder of what the old Jakarta used to be, and I could not think of a more warm-hearted manager. Finally, the food. From the décor, or lack of it, I was expecting the menu to offer fried egg, chips, sausages and baked beans. The old Jakarta offered a special lunch menu for £13.95 and a choice of 40 different items, with a choice of boiled or egg-fried rice. The new lunch menu offered a choice of only 13 items! All my favourites had disappeared. I always ordered Tom Yum Goong soup – which was no longer on the menu. I used to order Sambal Daging Goreng – also no longer available. Utterly disappointing. Only minutes after we arrived, another couple with a young child arrived and I heard them complaining about exactly the same things. So, we are left with dreadful décor, food almost as good as before but not what I would have chosen, with all my favourites missing, and warm and friendly staff. I mentioned all my reservations to the very kindly manager, who gave me his email address and asked me to write to him. I sent him an email but have not had the courtesy of a reply. I am not foolish enough to think that my comments will make any difference – what’s done is done – but I regret that I shall not be returning to the New Jakarta. It’s about 40 minutes’ drive from where I live but within a mile of my home there are lots of wonderful ethnic restaurants – Sri Lankan, Lebanese, French, Indian, Thai, Turkish and Italian, to mention only a few. The old Jakarta was worth a long journey, but the New Jakarta is no longer worth visiting in preference to what’s on my doorstep. The only question that remains is: why? Why did they spend tens of thousands of pounds ‘renovating’ a very successful restaurant by ripping out every vestige of the wonderful décor that made it a unique attraction and paring down the lunch menu by removing all the old favourites? Luckily, there is plenty of competition and returning there would only make me remember with sadness the glory days of Jakarta. Still, at least they have not (yet) introduced plastic cutlery and crockery, which would have been far more in tune with the new décor. There are two adages that come to mind. First, ‘the customer is always right’. It seems that at Jakarta, with respect to the renovations, the management is always right. Second, from the world of IT, ‘if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it’. It wasn’t and they did.

I said that I would update my cautionary review when the restaurant re-opens. I have now been to the New Jakarta and my review follows. In short, my fears were well founded. First, I don't like dishonesty. Their website states that the food is served 'amidst exotic carvings and palms'. That's a lie. All that has been stripped out - see below. Second, their website shows pictures of the old Jakarta, with all the beautiful artefacts, when all of them have been torn out. Third, they claim that they have won awards - that's not true. The New Jakarta is only a month old as I write and has had no awards within that time, as far as I know. The New Jakarta has no right to trade on the reputation of the old Jakarta, or on its many good reviews, as it's fundamentally different, as stated below. In fact, it's not even a shadow of its former self. Not only have they ripped out all the lovely decor, but they have replaced the wooden tables with formica-topped ones, with dreadful blue bench seating along the walls. In brief, the decor has gone from Far Eastern to 1970s Transport Cafe. They have stripped down the lunch menu from 40 items to about 13 and all the favourites have disappeared. The food was not quite as good as before but, in any case, I had to choose things that I didn't really want. They have maintained the very friendly service, but the loss of the outstanding unique decor is a grievous blow. If they had left the menu and décor the same but started serving the food with plastic crockery and cutlery, then I would have found it annoying but still acceptable. On the other hand, the new cheapskate décor cries out for plastic utensils - and a menu that includes egg and chips with sausages and baked beans. I shall never ever understand what insane imperative drove them to spend probably tens of thousands of pounds stripping out what made this restaurant unique. I don't think I shall ever return - there are plenty of other restaurants nearby including the Bang Bang Oriental Food Hall at 399 Edgware Rd, London NW9 0FH. It's much larger but they do superb dim sum and there's a far better atmosphere and equally good service. All I have left from the Old Jakarta is 20 years of wonderful memories.

First visit since the refurbishment and I wasn't disappointed with the food. Same High standards and friendly service as before. Will return.

Visited New Jakarta on my last day in London. Pak Ucok, the owner, was very welcoming! We ordered bakso, udang goreng tepung, and rendang. Everything tastes delicious & authentic, feels like home🇮🇩 Especially the rendang, it’s very soft. Definitely would recommend the restaurant to Indonesians who will be visiting London.

Great food and good portions for the price. Love the service and atmosphere. Beef rendang is tender with loads of flavour, pad thai is tasty with a nice sweet savoury taste and laksa is creamy with a hint of spicy.

We had a lovely Indonesian food here. Although I chose the hottest fish dish, it wasn't spicy enough for me. It's a nice, small place with a few Indonesian wood carvings mounted on the walls and displayed everywhere. I was disappointed to get a tea bag when I asked for a Jasmin Tea. The staff members were very helpful.

Love the food and come here once a month, the laksa is amazing, the chef does not skim on the ingredients and it is very tasteful. Even my 7 year old eats it as she loves it so much and the price is unbeatable.

Friend and I had an excellent lunch - great value and good choice from a really interesting menu. Would say vegetarian spring rolls crispiest I have ever had, and left some of my delicious (chicken in sweet soy sauce with rice) main course only because the portion was so very generous. I had dinner here today with my girlfriends, I have been wanting to come here for a long time as I walk in front of the restaurant every week. And OMG, it did not disappoint. The food was amazing, the place is very nicely decorated and cozy, and the customer service was great too. My friends said we need to come more times so that we can taste all the other items in the menu, maybe it's going to become our new regular place!

I once worked there. The woman that gave me the job (the co-owner of this place) told me all tips I would get must be put into a jar, from which she later shares them between everybody. She lied to me. I found out from another waitress that she actually gave that money to her, but she skipped me. She also quietly got rid of me as an employee, when suggesting she would call, and I didn't do anything wrong as an employee apart from being slightly inexperienced. So that's that. The woman there is a cheater and I find it's really important that people know how she treats her employees. Edit: No one told me that I wouldn't receive any share of the tips I rightfully got from customers as a trainee. Your response: 'probably not a very good one that’s why your writing this totally unfounded review at this time' sounds rude and tells me more about you. I wrote this review because I was badly removed from the position without having any sincerity being offered to me and unfortunately, this behaviour brought some slight trauma when it came to dealing with other employers. You have no right to be devaluing my experience. It was your guys' fault you treated me like some trash, with lack of appreciation for the work that I did for you. By the way, I worked there in 2016 and realized just now that I still had some resentment towards being mistreated.

Ordered from here for the first time just now and even before trying the amazing looking food I was so surprised to find not one but TWO free starters all of which including the mains taste amazing! went there for dinner wasnt busy. staf welcomed venue. after that had to flag their attention couple of times. nasi goreng did not have the combination of light sweetness combined with heat and slight tang. Same with fried tofu in peanut sauce doesnt have flavour seemed bland. seasoning was missing only thectom yum was ok. coconut ice not good at all. only had 2 spoons of nasi goreng. when paying bill mentioned these to waitress told her what nasi goreng is about. she said she will chef know. would not recommend at all

THIRD VISIT Visited this place again, for dinner this time on Friday. Food was not at all tasty, no seasoning at all. Felt like it was made in a hurry. Tried chicken spring rolls, special Nasi Goreng, golden bags. Didn’t like the taste of anything this time. Gave the feedback to staff and he said that it might be because we are busy at this time. But, being a customer, l don’t think that being busy gives someone a privilege to serve low quality food. After my this visit, I am updating my review to 2 stars from 4 stars. NOT RECOMMENDED 👎 FIRST & SECOND VISIT Visited Jakarta recently on a Sunday afternoon, and tasted dishes from their lunch menu. Dishes tasted good and specially were worth the money I paid for them. Quantity was also generous. Tried chicken satay, prawn curry and egg fried rice. Fried rice were my favourite, satay was good but I think the curry in prawn curry could have been better. It was tomato puree only as a paste. This could have been better to make it more tasty. Other than this, fast service, good interiors and value for money especially with their lunch menu😊

i have been to this restaurant a few times previous;y and have always found it good value for money, the service has been good and the staff have always been very good and friendly. I visited last week and the experience started with the pre meal drinks and the ordering of food but after that everything went down hill. We were a table of 8 with only another table occupied by 3 people and they were on the finish of the their meal and another table of 2 came into eat after. We had the same starters which was a mixed platter and after the first two arrived there was a long gap before the other two starters arrived. When it came to the main course, most of us had noodles which arrived very spaced out with some of the dishes arriving before all the noodles had arrived of which some of us were able to eat before others. I wonder what it had been like if they were busy? My noodles arrived but chicken dish had not and when I asked where it was, I was told that it was on its way. After 15-20 minutes when most of our party were near to finishing their meals, I enquired yet again and the waitress said that she did not know if my dish was ready and she would check which was not a satisfactory answer. She should had been checking. By this time I was very annoyed and made my presence known. I did not get one apology and they did not care when I finally said that I would cancel the rest of my meal and go without. I was told that they were once chef short and only had two. In all seriousness, I cannot see that they would had required a third chef in an empty restaurant. Apparently one of the waitresses was very upset, but if she had done her job properly and paid attention to the diners, this would not had got this far and i would had been giving a recommendation. There did not seem to be any managers present Our party would had stayed longer and had deserts and coffees but we wanted to go due to the lack of service. We certainly will not be returning which is a shame as our experiences have always been a lot better.

My first visit since Covid to Jakarta, I feel the quality has gone down ever so slightly The pre-food snack crackers had no flavour I ordered a set a chicken and the peanut sauce again was very bland and not up to the usual high standards. They have even the main meal. The pad Thai didn’t seem how I knew it as is there may be a new chef that has come a new style of cooking I don’t know it’s not a place that I wouldn’t disown but I shall go back

Overall, the food was decent. Service is really really good. Unfortunately, the roast duck was frozen. Horrible. It really let the place down in a big way. I hope this improves with time, other places are better.

We've been coming here since it first opened nearly 20 years ago. The food is still amazing. The lunch menu is great value and the staff are lovely. We've moved away now, so don't get to visit often enough. Jakata is about the only we do miss in Colindale and is definitely worth going back for a visit

It's an ok local Thai spot with friendly service. The Malaysian curry was really good but I think they need a smaller menu as we found other dishes to be a bit hit-and-miss.

All the food was delicious, fully cooked, presented well and served.

I ordered some crab cakes, and they were literally like rubber. So tough over cooked or stale and microwaved. When I spoke to the manager, at first, she was in denial and said, " they are meant to be like that!!" Eventually, she took it away. No apology or offer to get something else. Other stuff was ok. Nothing tasted fresh. But to be honest, it left a sour taste, and I definitely won't be returning.

Very nice food in Nice decor, and the price is good. We liked the Kuzy Ayam, Adam Pangan Pakac, Udang Asam Manis and Pad Thai, among others. And the different flavoured ice creams were interesting.

Jakarta is a well established Indonesian/ Thai restaurant on the Edgware Road, Colindale NW London. It serves variable delicious Pan South East Asian food at very reasonable prices. The lunch menu is brilliant value & £12.99 weekdays or £13.99 Saturday’s for two substantial courses. The food is very good. Friendly service in a lovely charming Indonesian Bali styled restaurant.

Rendang was good. I dont think the satay was grilled, it looked fried. The laksa was a bit bland and did not really taste authentic. Thats just my personal view. Am no food expert. - The service was very good from the 2 ladies and items fairly priced.

Nice greeting on arrival, friendly & helpful staff. Prices are very good, portion sizes are generous & food tasty, it's a mix of cuisines so this is especially good. Thai fishcakes are full of flavour but slightly over done as were the grilled prawns, the fried rice was too salty for us, the satay is great & the set menu is really good if you want a mixture of dishes. We will definitely return.

Great food and attentive friendly staff.

Lovely and delicious food. For starters we ordered the vegetable lumpia which is like a spring roll with potato and carrot filling and satay sayur. For mains we got vegetarian pad thai and Tahu goreng salad. The peanut sauce that comes with the food is amazing. Good size portion and decent prices. The interior of the restaurant is really nice and the staff are very friendly. I definitely recommend it and I'll definitely be going back. Update: I went back to Jakarta after a long time and ordered the vegetable lumpia again. The filling inside the spring rolls have changed and now consists of shredded cabbage and carrot. I did like them but I preferred the other filling. Ordered some coconut rice which was really nice. Lots of coconut flavouring in it. Great service.

I've been a customer for 23 years. i love this place. The chefs are talented and experts in this type of cuisine. Front of house staff are caring. Pricing is fair.

Disappointing. I ordered the pad Thai and some spring rolls and it was tasteless. The food is nothing special and I fact over priced considering how tasteless and basic it was. It Gave me a bit of a stomach ache after too. Portions are good it was full of chicken but no greens no peanuts it lacked so much. The prawns where cold and soggy and weren’t cleaned properly. Did not hit the spot at all in terms of flavour!! Had to pour in the sweet and sour dipping sauce which came with the spring rolls and some soya sauce to taste anything. Funny enough it had good reviews that’s why I ordered! Won’t be ordering from them again waste of money.
