Well, that was a treat! We haven't been here for quite a while and ventured out on a very soggy night to be rewarded with a feast. We were well looked after by Mr Khan and waiter, Dola, who is very good value. We had chana puree and tandoori prawn to start, followed by lamb sag balti, chicken shashlik and a salmon dhansak, made specially for us. Each dish had its own distict flavour with complex spicing with top quality meat/fish. Many similar restaurants use a heavy, oily tomato base with huge, barely cooked chunks of onion, but not Jaipur. The sauces were both thoroughly reduced and rich in flavour. We left nothing! Thank you to all of you, but especially the chef, who is exceptionally talented. We won't wait so long to visit you again.

We had a selection of different curries, all of which were faultless. The tandoori chicken Chana Palak was particularly tasty. They were packed full of authentic flavour and didn’t leave you feeling horrendously full. Definitely one to visit if in Repton. The only slight negative is the restaurant could do with a decor update, but it is not tatty, and the staff are all friendly.

I know TripAdvisor and other review sites are not the be all and end all, but every time I eat at Jaipur I wonder why it’s not busier and why there are so few reviews on TA. I have been eating here ever since it began trading as Jaipur and I have to say it has rarely disappointed. Yes, it could do with modernising decor wise, but the food on my most recent visit was excellent. I live in Repton so there is a convenience aspect to my like of it, but I would say it is well worth visiting if you live within 5 miles or so. Head and shoulders above Anoki on the A38.

My partner went to pick up a takeaway for us yesterday evening and we were both disappointed with it. He had garlic rice and naan, the naan was fine but the rice had very big chunks of garlic in rather that crushed garlic, his curry was a lamb tikka methi which would usually be a lovely dark green but this was much paler and his description was that ‘it tastes of something but I’m not sure what’. I had coriander naan and mushroom rice which were both ok, my curry was lamb tikka jalfrezi which had large chunks of onion and tomato which I didn’t mind so much but it was swimming in oil and had no heat to it at all. I ate the meat and I’m afraid the rest went in the bin and I’m a real curry lover. It was the first meal we’ve had from there but also the last. A much better meal to be had in Willington at Waters Edge or Nadee at Findern.

I would agree the food is ok/average, however there are not that many decent placed to eat curry in the area so its well frequented. Three of us went for dinner there last week, Daal starter a bit thin although we asked for it to be thick with extra garlic, two of the mains very similar in colour (bright red) and taste. I had the Lamb Sally...interesting, average curry under a large dome of thinly cut potato crispy chips. Wont go for that again. Staff pleasant enough, slightly overpriced for the quality of the food.

Booked ten days ago as special birthday for my niece. Called in Friday 8th Feb to discuss table and special arrangements and the fact that her fathers funeral had just taken place. Staff didn't seem very interested, which was proven on the next day when the service was terrible. We were a table of 6, prebooked and checked, we arrived five minutes before booking time, table was ready yet we weren't shown to table. Two people were sitting at our table waiting for their takeaway. We waited 45 minutes before we asked if we could order both food and drinks....we had to ask for everything and why? Because the take-away business was more important. We waited ages for our food...in fact my niece had to make a comment to one of the waiters about the long wait and lo and behold the food appeared!!! Staff not friendly and certainly will not be recommending as we do visit many Indian restaurants.

Staying nearby we gave this place a go. Nice friendly waiters, good food, portions are on the large size so we did leave quite a bit of our main courses but only because we were full. Should have missed out on the starters! Lamb and chicken dishes were delicious as was the freshly cooked bread. Wine was good and very reasonable price. Only negative was the ugly entrance. We did try to go through the beautiful glass main door that is locked off so having to enter the place through a scruffy side door does not make a welcoming entrance. Yes, the carpets could do with a deep clean but I've seen far worse. Finally the desserts were frozen ready puddings, why no kulfi?

Our group of six had eaten here many years ago, and it was an ideal choice for a celebratory meal. We booked, arrived on time and were shown to our table. The menus were extensive and varied from usual Indian restaurants and I chose some courses that I had not seen before. Over drinks and poppadoms I looked forward to my starter and main. My first course was a bit like a scotch egg with an omelette on. Very different and tasty. My main course was a lovely vegetable curry with a fresh naan. I had two pints of Cobra to accompany it all. Over the hour the restaurant filled up, though they left us happily chatting and never rushed us with bills or table clearing. We all agreed we had had a great night.

Ten years ago we walked into this restaurant late at night after running for eight miles and in need of a good curry. It was late, approximately ten o'clock and we were famished. The person who greeted us was friendly and led us to a table and took our order. I think they were about to close but nothing was too much trouble. The meal was fresh and the flavours perfect.Last night we walked into the Jaipur after a pre-booking. The same man greeted us. Obviously he didn't remember who we were, but yet again the friendliness and food were perfect.I can thoroughly recommend the house specialities and the Okra side dish. Everything was immaculate, from the linen tablecloths and napkins, to the real flowers and decor, not to mention the service which was discreet and with attention to detail. It was a busy evening but we were treated as if we were the only customers just like ten years ago.

The staff are very knowledgable about the food for those who are inclined to enquirer.Whilst it's not the best in the world it's probably the best in Derby and far better than the couple of high end rip off places that are so up themselves!!I've noticed a couple of mixed reviews for this place and can only presume the diners are more used to the frozen mush that gets served up on the 'Curry Mile'???This place is good so don't be shy.

Dismal lighting. Starters ok. Chose restaurant due to interesting menu. Don't bother if you know the difference between a garam masala spice blend and a masala sauce. Both our mains were nothing like their description on menu and were just red red red. Maybe they only made one sauce tonight. When I enquires with the waiter to explain I had ordered what I thought would be a milder dish due to stomach condition he was rude and tried to blame me for misunderstanding the menu. Explaining I couldn't have anything bland there and that plain rice was different to pilau oh yes and that basically chicken nawabi is actually just chicken tikka masala in disguise. Patronising rude and actually don't care what they serve as long as you pay the £25 per head price tag ( that was with lime & soda & tap water) don't insult my knowledge of curry. I've travelled round India and know an establishment that just doesn't care when I see it. A birthday night out ruined.

I have eaten here many times and the restaurant has always been great, great food and great service. However, I sometimes use the takeaway service. The food is always great.Consistently the takeaway is a disappointment because there is nearly always something missing from the order. Once there were no pickles with the poppadoms, despite paying for them. On another occasion there was only one nan bread when three were ordered and paid for. Tonight there was no vegetable curry that was paid for, three plain nan were ordered but only one was provided, the other two were peshwari nan.I cannot remember the last time the takeaway order taken home was what was ordered, the problem being that items that were paid for were not provided. As a result I have decided I will not use this restaurant again, which I feel sad about. I would advise that you should not use the takeaway service with any confidence. If I write a review like this then I should put my name to it.Michael Griffiths MelbourneDerbyshire

Food was great. Service was prompt and informative. The restaurant needs a refurb. The interior decor is drab and the other exterior is positively 70's...But. We're here for the food. Good standard! The waiter was particularly conscious to point out the hazards of the warm plates and piping hot Karai.... (No ambulance chasers will make a living here)...

quite a run down interior. usual numerous dishes on the menu which all seem to taste the same. Would much rather have fewer choices of better quality

Have been to the Jaipur many times and also enjoyed many tasty takeaways as a local resident. This isn't the cheapest curry house around but the food is always excellent, there are some good fish dishes and the specials menu always has a variety of good choices. Good, friendly service, and a good night out whether with family or friends.

We use this restaurant on a regular basis and have done so for the past four years. We really love the atmosphere and the food is extremely good. The service is excellent and nothing is too much trouble they cooked my husband a mixed tandoori koria which wasn't on the menu he thoroughly enjoyed it. I had Chicken tikka with salad and mint yogurt the chapatti was gorgeous and nan bread superb. It's the best draught Cobra I've had a really wonderful lager. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend the Japuir

Lovely food - never disappointed. Chicken Tikka Saagwala always devine! Friendly staff. Only criticism is that it is expensive for a local takeaway. Could do meal deals.

Very impressed with the eating environment, which was relaxed and open (tables aren't crammed into the room). We were greeted by the friendly and warm staff and quickly served. I could go on about the food but it's easier to say it was all top notch! The best bit was the fact you could share a laugh with the staff!

My partner and I were staying in Repton at "The Boot". We couldn't get a table at inn so decided to try "Jaipur" curry house.I must say that the food was very good and well flavoured. We have had a few Indian meals in out time and although the restaurant itself was not best the food and friendly staff made up for it. Give it a try!

The Jaipur never let us down and serve consistently brilliant food. We have been going regularly for years and always receive a warm welcome. We visit for every family birthday and my daughters 18th will be no exception.

I absolutely love this place! The food is incredible and the location is nice and relaxing! You can sit outside next to the canal if the weather is good or stay inside in their recently refurbished restaurant. There is plenty of parking and areas for kids to play! Outdoors they also have gazebo options which are perfect to go with an infant and keep them protected from the sun but still be outside. I have been going to this place for years and will continue doing so.
