Jade Garden in Breckland

Jade Garden is the local fish & chips shop just up the road. Nice fries and good haddock. Nothing special, but a very decent place for take-out.

I wanted a Saturday night treat so I went to my local chip shop. I was very disappointed. Some of the chips were almost solid in the middle like they hadn't been cooked fully. The sausages were oily and very greasy. The only thing that was nice was the curry sauce. I don't ever complain about things but I had to on this occasion, I was so disappointed. The customer service was rubbish also. I didn't even get a "hello" the man just looked at me until I told him what I wanted. Overall, very disappointing. I will not be returning.

Sadly, as always, the fish was overdone. Have mentioned it numerous times but no change;- perhaps it's me, who knows? Prefer Mattishall even though further to go.

Would give 0 stars if I could very rude staff,over cooked greasy fishcake that's clearly been cooked more than once,ordered large cod and chips,clearly wasn't a large more like a small,also dripping in grease,very over priced for what we got.

One of the best cooked pieces of cod I've tasted, at quite a reasonable price. Chips were nice; size of the portion on the small side, but most places give way too much anyway. The curry sauce is very good, too. Will definitely be returning!

They were rude to us and it felt like they were laughing at us. If I could give them minus ratings I would. The fish was ok and battered sosage was alright except that they did not have jumbo size did not offer salt and vinegar and chips are dry.

I bought small haddock and chips and my god if i had had the time i would have certainly took it back.the fish was so dry, over cooked, a slither if fish in it, you get more in a fish finger.the batter was rock hard and too crispy I had to bin it.chips were pale and soggy.DISGUSTING! I am surprised they don’t do jumbo sausage or gravy. Thought they were staples of any chip shop. Portion size is small and priced high in my opinion.

Recently moved to the area. Our previous local chippy was excellent and while Jade Garden isn't quite as good its definitely close. Best of the local chip shops that we have tried. Really good service too.

Been using Jade Garden for 6 years, every Friday. Never a problem.

We had rock and cod with chips. Both were lovely and tender, not at all greasy and with a good portion of chips.

Food was as good as always!! Excellent....BUT parking very poor and we ordered early and went to collect...not ready just stood and queued with everyone else!!🙄

Felt welcomed the food was perfectly cooked and was prompt. Good portions and a Covid friendly payment arrangement. Chinese are great people!

Fish is good but portion size is smaller than other chip shops in the area there large is about the normal elsewhere, chips can be a bit soggy and pale

Their fish n chips were delicious, whole family agreed. They were the only place open till 9pm but would go back as everything was cooked fresh while I waited and cooked to perfection.

I have used this place a few times in the past and every other time it has been ok. This time was completely different, which is a shame. The chips were soggy and lukewarm. I also didn't realise I had ordered a childrens portion as that's what I seem to have received, I've seen more chips on a bus windscreen. The fish was by far the single worst part of this experience... I've never seen so much grease on a portion of fish and chips in all my life, the grease had almost soaked through all the layers of paper and was ripping and dripping all over the place. The fish had clearly just had a quick dunk in the fryer as the batter was half cooked and soggy, the actual meat was chewy and tasted off and to top it all off my mum found a worm in her portion of fish. Apparently they are safe to eat as long as the fish is thoroughly cooked but I wasn't exactly brimming with confidence. As a result our £15 dinner of fish and chips ended up with us actually eating about 10 chips each and throwing 2 large cod in the bin. By far the worst fish and chips I have ever had in my life

We do have some rubbish fish & chip shops in Dereham but this one is excellent. I know a great number of people that drive past the poor shops to get to this one, as we do. I have NEVER over many years heard of any one getting poor food or service. I can only assume that the poor reviews on this site were fraudulently submitted by jealous competitors who come no where near to the quality of this shop. They cannot be genuine reviews If this shop is closed we would never go to any of the others.

Thought as a treat, lunchtime fish and chips. As usual kind, lovely owners, and the food was exceptional as always! Light tasty batter, soft flakey fish, lovely chips. Can’t ever fault this place, my son and daughter also love it! Best curry sauce also. Best fish and chips in Dereham, never fatty, fresh oil.

We recently went twice to this place. The second time was to give them a fair shot at getting it right. Both times they failed badly. Fish solid and chips soggy and white. Even 7 minutes in an air fryer made no difference. The service is really bad. They should go to Hunstanton and see how they do it. They will learn. I will never go there again. It is just as if they don’t want to be there. Well that makes two of us. Review awful.

For fish and chips, great, can be hit and miss sometimes but overall good food, Only thing I would say is that they should have some one just on the phone taking orders....

The Fish here is always lovely. Batter is crispy and the fish is tender and lovely. The chips however let down the whole meal. They’re often soggy with no crisp. And the staff are very neutral and don’t understand ‘service with a smile’.

This could be a really nice chip shop. However when you walk in you will be greeted by a miserable man, no smile. No offer would you like open or wrapped. Just wrap them up. So I purposely unwrapped them to put some salt and vinegar on since wasn't offered that either. Chips were bland even with salt. Fish cake revolting. A chicken burger literally in dried up bun, no mayo, no butter, no salad. I would be ashamed to present something so revolting to a customer if it was my chip shop. I have no sympathy for places likes these if they go under. So much you could do to improve, customer service. Clean your venetian blinds and SMILE and be happy to your customers that would go a long way. Wasted £8.50.

Jade garden definitely offers the best fish and chips in town! The chips are of a totally different standard compared to others in the town and the portions are quite large. I usually have a battered sausage with my chips and this is delicious! I cant comment on their fish because ive never had it. The price point is just right and food is served quite promptly.

Food was good, bit stingey on the chips but nice food. The issue was the customer service, we stood there for what seemed like an eternity whilst the guy on the counter wrapped chips and served people that were waiting for their orders, then finally he loves OKed up and made eye contact and took our order, not so good customer service. Not going to hurry back

Great fish and chips to be found here. Always cooked to perfection. The fish is perfect, beautiful light batter, well cooked, no bones and very tasty. Staff are helpful, pleasant and efficient. Food is always fresh and not left standing for too long, that can sometimes mean a slight wait for fish but it's well worth it and plenty of space for a sit down whilst your meal is being cooked. I rarely go anywhere else now.

Honestly think this is the best place to get fish and chips around Dereham. The food isn't too greasy unlike other places so I really enjoy it.

Best fish and chips in Dereham. In fact it's one of the best chippys around. The fish is always cooked to perfection, and they never have it hanging about in the cabinet for long. Usually they cook it fresh to order which can result in a bit of a wait but it's definitely worth it.

I like this place as two in one Chinese and fish and chips. Give my family choice on what to have. Food is always fresh at hot. Portions are good. Quantity is there. Staff are very friendly. Seating/waiting area can get busy but just shows there well liked

Again, this is our local fish and chip shop which we visit on a regular basis. The fish is sometimes cooked to order (especially plaice), but the batter is crisp and tasty. Recommended.

Los viernes todos obreros trabajando en nuestro sitio tienen pescado y patatas o China desde aquí. Ya que he dejado de comida china el nivel general de la comida es REALMENTE mala. Acabamos de pasar más de 30 libras por pescado y patatas fritas, las patatas fritas eran incomibles y han tirado de pescado no mucho mejor, no volveremos

We've used the Jade Garden ever since moving to Dereham 4 years ago and found it to be the best consistently for fish and chips and Chinese. Parking can sometimes be difficult outside as there's no markings in the car park so less considerate users tend to abandon their cars in the middle of the car park! Foods good though, especially the chinese menu, certainly the best we've tried in Dereham.

Best fish and chips in Norfolk! Reasonable prices and if you phone ahead, you will get a truly hot, fresh meal. Also, as it is a chineses takeaway essentially, I would also say their takeaway many takes a lot of beating. Highly recommended.

Been using this place for years because they do the best fish & chips in Dereham. Better prices than the competition and I swear their fish is bigger and well cooked in a nice crispy batter.Tried a Chinese takeaway recently and had a real pleasant surprise, it was superb !The staff are always friendly, fast and efficient.Small car park on a busy road so parking can be an issue but its worth making the effort.
