Jack & Alice in South Bucks

Oh what a disappointment, literally just left there. Order prawns, tempura crab & truffle & Parmesan fries. Prawns turned up with shells on ciabatta with tomato sauce over them ( should have been chilli & ginger none in sight ) fries turned up a good 10 minutes before all other food then prawns ( no finger bowls or side plate to put shell on 🤦‍♀️) asked for a finger bowl ended up eating 3 prawns everything else was spoiled due to having to put shells on the plate couldn’t eat prawns with bread not enough room on plate. Tempura crab had a skin inside it 🤮 really chewy ended up spitting out. Told waitress she looked nervous and said shall I bring manager I said you can relay what we have told you. We then get ignored and finally the manager asks if we are ok and I tell her and say can we have a desert menu she apologies ask if we want on drink on her. We ordered 2 deserts and coffee, which was ok. Bill comes we are charged for the mains most expensive items and deserts are free, and advised we have been charged a service charge ( which is optional as we know ) my advice not a great place to each in the evenings definitely don’t order prawns and crab is dubious what it is, truffle fries made us laugh the Parmesan was sliced and not grated so odd. I did say to the manager I cannot believe you have charged us for the mains and she said well I gave you the deserts 🤦‍♀️ And not charged a service charge.

Visited for a coffee before heading to the cinema opposite and will defiantly be returning for food at a later date, lovely staff and a lovely atmosphere. I see there a lots going on during the week so have also added fondue night to the list! Thank you all

We live locally and have been using J&A for a number of years and our experience has always been excellent. On this occasion we came with friends and the service was appalling. Having ordered food it arrived sporadically and in no logical order. We had to wait at least 20 minutes between the arrival of the first meal to the last and were unable to eat together (or it was cold). The duty manager (I assume) was flippant and uninterested. We complained quietly on the evening but no apology was forthcoming. We were somewhat embarrassed as we had recommended this place to our friends as a suitable place to meet! Very disappointed!

I have been going to J&A since they first opened in GX years ago. I am so disappointed. Todays brunch was so poor - I'm not sure we will ever go back. The service was dreadful and totally overpriced. Our food came at different times and some of my husbands food landed on the seat next to him and the waitress actually picked it up and put it back on his plate! It is really sad because we have loved going there over the years....

Quality service, tasty food, good pricing. We had schmitzel and lamb pie. My pie just right, tendermeat wirking very well with the sause and mash and veggies on the side. Coffee for espressos us french roast nearly, so a bit too far on the roast, but acceotable to thise used to strong flavours. Sticky toffee desert was very nice. Sufficient selection of beer, considering wine is their forte. I had tasty NEIPA. Highly Recommend

What a fun menu and every bite delicious. Tuesdays fondues are great but so is the main menu and I love this food so much that I keep going back and making my way through the entire menu. Lovely wines by the glass as well as the bottle and fun vibe. Friendly staff. I don’t have a sweet tooth and never room left for puddings but friends have told me they love the cakes. Make a reservation as it’s a small place and I see people being turned away due to the popularity.

Lovely place for a wonderful brunch & tea I had the veggie breakfast which was very good & my brunch family had the traditional breakfast, all good. Proper tea leaves in individual pots & excellent service. No surprise it was busy. Also loved the decor, the photos on the wall near the bathroom & the general feel of the place, sadly I don’t live close.

Held mine and my wife's joint 50th birthday party at J&A. What a fantastic venue, Mark and his team were absolutely amazing “whatever you want we’ll make it work” that’s what I wanted to hear and they delivered. Food was so delicious and all our guest were so impressed. Bar staff were so friendly and helpful. If you’re looking for a venue look no further than J&A. You won’t be disappointed!!

Really disappointing dinner. Food wasn't bad, but the service wasn't up to scratch at all. The staff all seemed to take a break together at the back and the customers were just left. We saw them dancing and eating at the back together. We waited ages for a pudding menu then decided not to bother, but then waiting for the bill took even longer. So we got up and paid. The serving staff were all so young. It seemed to be lacking an authority figure to make sure things were running smoothly. Wont be back when there are so many other good restaurants in Gerrads Cross who don't treat their paying customers like this.

Lovely little restaurant, my daughter and I passed it many times and thought we would try it. No regrets. Staff was very friendly, welcoming and attentive. We had Salmon and Poached egg on Muffin with an Iced Coffee. Simple food made well. We will definitely go again!

Tasty food and goo service. Fantastic English breakfast tea (thoug pricey). It is very busy on a Saturday morning so it can be quite noisy due to there being a lot of tables in there.

We went to Jack and Alice (on a recommendation) last Tuesday evening - Fondue Evening - with our daughter and grandchildren for our daughter's birthday. We enjoyed a fondue and various tapas dishes. Food isn’t good, service isn’t good either. This is just one of the worst restaurants in the area, avoid at all costs and save your money.

There is no better way enjoy an afternoon of shopping than to nip into Jack and Alice I was told for a glass of wine and lunch.Friendly, unique, very independent and proud of that fact.Definitely a lovely place to stop.Only thing maybe best not to brave the outside due to its more tables on the pavement, which is fine! The place has a lot of potential. Good ambience. Only place on the high street where you can go for wine/snack (that’s not a pub). Food is fine. However I absolutely hate the service. I go there regularly as it’s the only local wine option and except for one older and more experienced waitress who is great, the rest of them are rude and should not be allowed to serve. They can never manage table reservations, turn people away when they have plenty of space, have no manners in how they speak or decline a table. I’ve had drinks banged on the table. Never any eye contact go see if you need anything. Basically all the things customer service should not be. None of this is personal. I just think they try to save money by hiring very young inexperienced waitresses and put no effort in training them. It’s a real shame. I would boycott the place if there were other wine bars nearby.

Had takeaway from here on several occasions during lockdown and the food was outstanding. Generous portions, well presented and tasted delicious and friendly owners. Will definitely go again whether to take away or eat in.

Purchased take away afternoon tea for two during lockdown. Large and varied portion of freshly made sandwiches, 2 huge plain scones and 2 huge fruit scones plus selection of cakes. Portion of loose leaf tea, clotted cream and jam. Very reasonable prices, click and collect very efficient. Jack & Alice deserve to succeed!! Absolutely wonderful!!

I have to say, we’ve always loved J&A...especially for a nice G&T after a movie. We’ve always had good food and amazing cappuccinos too. What has impressed us the most though is that through this crazy time, they have managed to feed us epically good burgers and sides at incredibly reasonable prices. They adapted so quickly and we will continue to support them throughout lockdown and beyond because they care about the service they provide, their food has been awesome and they love their customers.

Went to J&A for a dinner take-away meal after they closed during the Coronavirus outbreak. Super delicious food and friendly staff. Ordered the vegan burger and chicken burger. Really yummy and good price too. A* service and meal. Definitely recommend.

Visited for brunch on a Sunday morning. Obviously a popular spot, almost every table was full or reserved and people were constantly being turned away while we ate. It’s the only place we’ve visited in GX so maybe is the best option, the dinner menu looked good but I don’t think we’d hurry back for brunch. Pros were the extensive menu, loads for gluten free and the buzzy atmosphere, plus the veggie brunch was well rated! On the flip side it was cold where we sat as a strong draft blew under the door, there was only one brunch option for vegans and it was the blandest dish I’ve ever been served anywhere, and the service started out ok but we waited so long to pay the bill while some of the staff chatted at the bar or served other table it was just ridiculous. I’d try anywhere else in the area before visiting again but clearly they’re doing something right to be drawing such a crowd.

Very busy so the service was slow. Very cramped and gets noisy too. However clearly very popular with a certain set. Not a place to go if you don’t like a lot of noise.

Jack and Alice offer a limited menu, but what they do, they do really well, I’d recommend the boards we went for mezze and meat really delicious. Good wine choice and they had live music with Matomari, look out for them all styles of music very entertaining . Our waitress Bianca was excellent always there but not intrusive. Will definitely return.

Ambience, atmosphere and service definitely get a 5-star rating here. We'd gone in after an early evening visit to the Everyman in GX, without reservation, and they found us a table immediately. Buzzy but not overloud atmosphere, and friendly service. Live music too. We had 2 vegetarian meals and they were both excellent. Great to support a non-chain restaurant obviously run by people who care. Going back.

I arrived with two friends and we were pleastently greeted and immediately shown to one of the booths. It was a busy night, but the staff made us feel very welcome and did not leave us waiting for service, nor did we feel rushed. The team seemed well managed and very professional.All the guests seemed well looked after, and with eager, energetic staff, a great atmosphere was maintained throughout our visit. I was very pleased with the menu choice and even more pleased with the outstanding quality and taste of the food. So much so, that I ordered dessert (which I very rarely do). Again, the selection was varied here too but one of the waiters, who had personally tasted all of the desserts, was more than pleased to help me choose (Alex was our exceptional waiter, who was always happy to help and kept us wanting for nothing). My friends and I, had a great evening here and found the unique atmosphere, great food and efficient, friendly staff a breath of fresh air. Deffinayely going again! (fondue night in the diary)!

Jack and Alice have got the balance just right - whether it’s for pre cinema fizz, snacks or a full meal or coffee and (fantastic) cakes, it’s our go-to in GX. Shout out to Gracie for looking after us so well last weekend!

We very much enjoyed our visit to Jack & Alice. Very nice food, nicely presented and with a great choice - also for vegetarians and vegans. Very good atmosphere, not too noisy (music etc), lovely, smiley service, very comfortable and cosy, great location. The whole place is just charming! What I love best is that it's not one of the oh-so-many chains that continue to pop up everywhere and that there is some individuality and charm at Jack & Alice's place - long may it continue like this! We have visited here several times on a Friday for lunch. Although the food is nice and the ambience lovely, the service is always slow. Today our drinks were brought straight away but we had to wait 35 minutes to be brought two toasted sandwiches! We had to gulp if down and run as our car park time was running out. An hour should be enough for a sandwich lunch

Visited recently for a catch up with friends over some wine and cheese. The setting is relaxed and had a good selection of wine, cheese, meats...and platters for the vegetarians. It was busy but the staff were attentive and friendly. Would definitely recommend and look forward to visiting again soon!

My first visit to Alice and Jacks as parking in GX is quite expensive, but was visiting the cinema anyway. I had 2 scones served with jam and cream and they were presented beautifully with some fresh fruit on the side. Because they had been lightly toasted and were still warm, the cream and jam melted and I generally made quite a mess of eating them, but they were so delicious I didn’t really care! I will definitely re-visit and not worry about parking fees - or even walk there!

Met a friend for lunch and had the meze plate. Absolutely delicious. Staff were all friendly, helpful and efficient (special shout out to Millie and Harvey!). Will definitely go back.

Having read the reviews and menus we'd thought we will give this a try. The hostess wasn't really interested when we came in. Our drinks came out quickly enough but it was a long, long wait for our food. When we inquired about the food it turned out the waitress had forgotten to actually enter our orders into the system so the chef didn't know it was there. Another friendly waitress apologised and gave us free drinks on the house but it still took an age to get to the table (the place wasn't busy). The food was average for the price. I know that people make mistakes but the original waitress who made the mistake didn't even apologise and made another waitress do it or even come over to make sure we were ok.

I had such high hopes of this establishment. I waited ten to twelve minutes for a coffee - reasonable i guess. But then waited a further five minutes for some hot milk. My sandwich ordered at 2.30 had not arrived by 3.15, so i began to leave. Others may well disagree here but i do not see it as my responsibility to remind staff of orders placed. The waitress passed by me three or four times, apparently completely oblivious to the fact that i had not been served. It is all well and good that staff are trained not to write down customer's orders, AS LONG AS THEY THEN REMEMBER THE DETAILS AND PASS THEM ON TO THE KITCHEN! I went to pay the bill - for just the coffee. I told the waitress that i had not been served with my sandwich. She was very very apologetic, swapped glances with her colleague as if to say what that your fault or mine, but insisted that i did not pay for the coffee. I appreciated this gesture but left dissatisfied and hungry. Good luck if you are trying out this cafe / restaurant! They are lucky i am not a restaurant critic.

This local wine bar is perfectly located for people wanting to get something to eat and drink before going to the Everyman cinema, which is virtually opposite. The food's good, the decor is interesting and prices are very reasonable, especially for an up market place like Gerrards Cross. But what made it so enjoyable was our server, a lady with a great sense of humour and an instinct for just how much to intrude (or rather not to intrude) into her customers' time there. I loved my smoked mackerel starter and the mac'n cheese main with meatballs. Portion sizes are big, so it's easy to over order. What definitely wasn't necessary, but was seriously special was the chocolate plate. I expected maybe some small chocolate desserts, but instead got two big slabs of each of three different types of hand made chocolate with crumbled meringue. Goodness knows how many calories it was or what it did to my cholesterol level, but who cares, it was amazingly good. I shall be back!

I met an old friend for lunch. We both had a mezze board, she wanted to swap out the olives and I wanted to swap out the houmous. We both said taramasalata, or a different cheese perhaps, we were happy to leave it up to the chef. We both got an extra flatbread! Maybe Im hard to please but I felt underwhelmed.

The service was great. The food was nice and a good range of gluten free. Pleasant atmosphere and somewhere we’d go again.
