Our lunch here was exquisite. A place to go if you’re feeling a bit flush and want a real treat. The variety of choices on the menu meant we took a while to decide! We sat at the bar, the atmosphere seemed slightly livelier elsewhere (hence not 5 stars here). Would definitely recommend. Great location, too.

A lunchtime Mother’s Day occasion turned into a disastrous and potentially seriously dangerous afternoon. Having eaten here on many occasions in the past we took our elderly mother out for lunch. One hour into the meal I was sick in the restaurant’s restroom and then for the following 24 hours was incredibly ill with sustained acute vomiting, diarrhoea and severe stomach cramps. Seven days later I am still feeling the effects. Whilst I accept that there is always an element of risk with eating raw seafood, this episode has not been handled at all well by the management. I contacted the restaurant via their website and was emailed back that a manager would phone me at my convenience. I replied with my phone availability. Five days later I have yet to receive any further contact whatsoever. Thankfully it was me who was ill and not my 86 year old mother as I suspect a trip to A&E would have been on the cards. Understandably I am hesitant to return.

Wow, what can I say, an incredible all round meal. I can’t remember the last time I had a meal where all three courses were as good as the ones I had at J. Sheekey. The staff were incredibly attentive and even brought out a ‘Happy birthday’ dessert for my partner which he loved. For starters we had the dressed Portland crab and the cheddar soufflé, the soufflé was so light and fluffy with just the right amount of cheese. I then ordered the monkfish and tiger prawn masala, and wow, it was great. The monkfish itself was so soft and the prawns really let out a chargrill flavour. My partner ordered the ray wing which he thoroughly enjoyed. Finally, the desserts, my partner ordered the honeycomb ice cream with hot chocolate sauce and he won’t stop talking about it! Something so simple, but so great, a generous portion too. I had the raspberry and pistachio cake which was so light, and fluffy, and the sharpness of the raspberries really complimented the pistachio cake. Overall, an incredible meal, with great staff in a great location. I’ll be coming back.

one star for the nice waiters. But the food is unflavoured, unseasoned , heavily salted cold garbage. The portions were ridiculous. Apparently it’s a “French” style but I know what good food is and not at all a picky eater and that was disgusting. It caters for old white people taste which is probably why it’s still in business.

My wife and I were due to fly from London to Miami on 21st March but were grounded due to the fire near Heathrow and ended up staying in a hotel in St Martin's Lane. We popped into J Sheekey on the off chance of having some lunch and we were lucky enough to get seats at the bar. The front of house staff were excellent and understanding of our situation. They made an awful day more bearable. The oysters and bubbles broke the ice and the seafood stew was great even though neither of us had much of an appetite as we knew we would not make the cruise that we had booked many months ago and were really looking forward to.

Absolutely amazing food and an incredibly attentive team. Everything we had was fresh and bursting with flavor — no shortcuts, no processed ingredients, just quality dishes made right. I’m introducing a “sneeze rating” to my reviews going forward (a fun way to rate how un-fresh a place feels). Most spots that claim to serve fresh food still sneak in something processed… not here. J Sheeky earns a perfect Zero Sneeze Rating. Well done, and thank you!

Very disappointing. The starters were excellent quality but the lobster thermidor main course was poor. The price here is very reasonable for modest fish dishes. A small “Dover plaice” for 55 GBP + vegetables 8.00 GBP + potatoes 8.00 GBP + 1 small water 4.00 GBP + Coperto 2.00 GPP + 13.5% Servivecharge makes a mere 110.00 Euro for 1 person and a plated meal that was cooked to a very standard standard. The food from start to finish was amazing and very tasty! I took the monkfish curry which was very good, I'm pleased I selected this because my wife who ordered a cod fillet was slightly disappointed by the size of her dish whereas the curry was suitably filling. For the desert I took my favourite - sticky toffee pudding and this was one of the best I've had. Not too dry, just right. Having seen the food pics, I've been wanting to go for a while.. Took the opportunity to go for an after theatre dinner as it was limited in choice over how many restaurants were open at that time.. Booked the set meal as thought it would be quick for them and us considering it would be late.. 10.30pm.. It was packed when we got there and waiter stood by us demanding our drink order.. I asked for 2 mins as we hadn't even had the opportunity to open the menu seeing as he asked the moment he handed it to us.. He was really unhappy about me asking him to come back in 2 mins..! When he did, we gave our order and he asked what we wanted for food.. I said I'd booked the set menu so could we please have the menu.. Ha walked off in a huff, came back with ONE menu for the 4 of us.. he then asked what we wanted, I asked for a couple of mins so we could look at the menu.. He then proceeded to tell me it was late and we had to order.. I said yes, but could we have 2 mins to see what was on the menu.. The food was really good.. so worth visiting for that.. what I will say is, if you're going to open late, then surely we are allowed same courtesy as other diners..? If you don't want us there, then close earlier..? We ordered really quickly and ate as quickly as possible, there were still people there when we left.. but it made for the experience really uncomfortable and I can't say I'd go again.. Btw, instead of giving me a bottle I asked for, he gave my friend and I a glass each.. probably fearing we'd be there ages drinking.. but a bottle between 4 ppl is literally just over a glass each anyways.. 😂 I hate giving negative reviews but just feel he was rude and it wasn't necessary. if you offer to open late, then you need to provide the same level of service, perhaps giving us the heads up that kitchen would close soon would have been much more tactful..

We wanted a seafood restaurant before going to the theatre. What a find! The staff were welcoming and service was excellent. The food was top notch, and the recommendations from the staff were spot on. I like to try new dishes and have to say the octopus starter was delicious, and John Dory is added to my list of favourites. The restaurant its self is a little snug. Some of the tables are quite close, but still far enough apart for privacy (and a personal benchmark of mine - the toilets were absolutely spotless!) It's a little pricy, but this is Central London and quality comes at a price. Given all the restaurants available in London, would I go again? In a heartbeat.

We went for a family lunch to celebrate my sister's 50th. Service was so amateur it was laughable - my main course was forgotten about and arrived so late (after a waiter had been prompted) that everyone else had finished eating theirs, a glass of wine was knocked over my sister (accidents happen - felt very sorry for the waitress - but didn't help the mood!), and the birthday message (with plate of petit fours that were promised) didn't ever materialise... Despite saying we didn't want dessert, two bowls of ice cream arrived as way of an apology. Brilliant - if it had been my sister's 5th birthday, and not her 50th.... It was just sooo disappointing. And hugely expensive. We drank one bottle of house wine between 5 people, and the bill was over £500. There are several thousand other restaurants in London where that can get you incredible food, and a vastly superior dining experience - go to those... not to J Skeekey.

We visited this restaurant for a Valentine’s meal and opted for seats at the bar. The food was good but not super and as expected, on the pricier side. We don’t mind paying for quality food and service, especially for special occasions, but while the dishes were well-prepared, the portions were quite small. Unfortunately, the service didn’t quite meet the standard we expected given the premium pricing and the 13.5% service charge. My partner’s chair was frequently bumped by staff, and I noticed a general lack of attentiveness. On my way back from the restroom, staff didn’t make way, which felt inconsiderate. I also observed a waitress placing a dish down and then reaching across the plate, her arm touching the food—something that shouldn’t happen in a restaurant of this caliber. Similarly, when clearing our plates, the waiter reached right across me for the plates instead of taking the extra step around, which felt careless. There were other small but noticeable lapses—at one point, I was nearly knocked over by someone rushing up the stairs with boxes stacked high, and the staff at the counter seemed rushed and inattentive. I even saw one casually toss a dressed crab aside, sending it spinning. Overall, while the food was enjoyable, the experience didn’t quite justify the price. The atmosphere felt very flat. I had expected a more refined, Old English charm, but it didn’t quite deliver on that front. With more polished service and attention to detail, it could be worth revisiting, but as it stands, it fell a little short of expectations and I wouldn’t say it’s worth the price.

Fantastic well presented oysters, delicious the famous fish pie, fresh Riesling filling the glasses up by the waiter at its right time and one of the best cheesecakes I've had. This was a fabulous dining experience. The staff were friendly, and our server, Alex, was welcoming and had a fun sense of humour while being very knowlegible about both the wines and food. The restaurant is comprised of outdoor and indoor seating, with a number of cosy, small inside rooms, with upbeat jazz music playing unobtrusively in the background. I was particularly struck by the attention to detail on the tables and the presentation of the food. We started with the roasted scallops in their shells and a shellfish bisque. However, the standout starter was the blue fin tuna tartare. This had a coating of spiced avocado with a ponzu sauce, which had a fabulous citrus flavour and a hint of ginger. The plateau de fruits de mer was huge and more than enough for one person (and I have a healthy appetite). The dressed crab was delightful and , he whelks were plump and juicy. A bottle of Reisling with its subtle flavours was the perfect accompliment. We also had a sticky prawn starter as a main, which had a really nice bite courtesy of the jalapeño, lime, and garlic. We finished the meal with an ice cream and a great selection of cheeses. I can highly recommend J Sheekey to anyone looking for a great seafood experience. We shall definitely return to try out some of the other dishes on the menu.

Perfect, nothing to complain about. Several times we had wanted to dine there but the crowds had forbidden us and we understand why. There were 4 of us, it was hot seafood for some with lobster and fresh for others. Everything was very good, fresh. So some will say, seafood is easy to cook, yes and no it still has to be fresh and of quality which was the case. The service is impeccable, the waiter was attentive, attentive but not in a hurry and gave good advice. The team is attentive, no table available, it doesn't matter, you can wait while enjoying an aperitif, it's simple and the timing was respected. The desserts were very good, a nice revisit to the pavlova. A very good evening.

How someone can make any complaints is beyond me, but I dare say even if you did have gritty scallops, just ask and they would be changed. My Halibut cooked on the bone was first class, as were Rachel's spicy prawn starter and Monkfish curry. Whatever you do make sure you can leave room or force down the Apple Pie and custard. It was lovely, one of London's oldest and best restaurants. Great food. Loo's clean for such a high traffic place. Good atmosphere. I recommend the fish pie and Staff absolutely fantastic, highly recommend.

not often do i arrive at my table and then a staff member bump into me and then lean in to headbutt me! all is very clearly on the cctv and the manager of the evening also witnessed it. a very surreal experience at such a great establishment. this waiter then carried on serving us drinks by putting them on our table as quickly as he possibly could each time, which resulted in him spilling it. other staff very good and food was nice but i've never had anything like that happen to me before. very surreal experience

Have been here a number of times and enjoyed our previous visits this time just didn’t hit the mark. Food was uninspiring and nothing creative in any way. Wine list was good but very expensive. Many better places to try.

The overall experience is amazing. The interior design is wonderful and so is the service. The food was slightly too sweet for our personal liking (burger and salmon dishes).

Sheekey or cheeky ? To be honest it’s just an average restaurant with not so average prices. Having been placed in an outside dining area that was supposedly heated, I can report that it’s set up for polar bears and penguins only. Others left early as it was so cold or refused to dine as was so unbearable, or hid under blankets. The prices are eye watering and just not worthy of the produce that’s delivered. The six oysters for starters and mains for 4 plus 1 bottle of wine came out at £317. No deserts or extras !! Which, for average pub grub just wasn’t worth the cost. The service was acceptable, but they even added 8 quid to deliver the bread with the oysters as well as charging for the bread on top of this, is just taking the piss we think. For a lot less money we can eat in the original ivy as we have done many times and never faulted the service or food. This, as it’s owned by the same group isn’t the real deal and we would advise against. Please spend your money on a restaurant where you feel appreciated and not ripped off. X

Vastly overrated, after having drinks at the bar we waited an age to be shown to our table. Where we were seated must have been the coldest area of the restaurant,we asked on 3occasions for the air conditioning to be turned off before it eventually was. The girl who showed us to our table was rude and unwelcoming. While we were waiting for our food we noticed other tables getting a basket of bread, we got nothing until we pointed this out. I certainly won't go to this restaurant again and will deter any of my friends and family from doing so.

It was my second time visit J Sheekey seafood restaurant in Covent Garden. It seems like they would serve quicker for those pre-theater guests. We were waited for sometime. Underwhelmed by the food which was pricy. ▪︎Pumpkin risotto was good ▪︎Crab burger was okay ▪︎Fish curry was ordinary ▪︎Mixed Oysters can be better ▪︎Parmesan fried Courgette was good ▪︎Roasted Chorizo was good ▪︎Atlantic Prawns not worth to try Service was pleasant, friendly staff . Total bill : £192.

All the staff were excellent, service was the best I have had in a long time. Food excellent, gotta get the recipe for the scallop sauce! Desserts excellent. Location fantastic, makes the maintenance of standards all the more impressive with so many potential one time passing customers... I will be going back asap!

Really great seafood and a good selection of dishes on the menu. Fantastic setting for a family celebration in an intimate section of the restaurant. This coupled with jazz music created just the right ambience for our get-together. The service is outstanding, attentive but unobtrusive. I highly recommend J. Shelley’s.

Went there for a birthday party over the weekend. I was not impressed with the service as this place was considered as a 5 star-typed restaurant. Food: The choices are good with different options. Service: bad. The waitress serving us was looking like she doesn't understand our order and we have to keep repeating our order a few times. On the drinks side, we've put in our order once we were seated as we know what we want to drink. However 15 minutes later, there were still no drinks on sight. We've to ask about where are our drinks. Another point was the seating, the table that we're placed was small, cramp and in a traffic flow area were waiters snd waitresses walk passed you ALL THE TIME! While we saw a couple was place in a corner with a bigger table where more people can sit around. Not very clever in their seating plan. We've made reservation in advance, surely you would have thought the restaurant would have a better seating plan. Atmosphere: it was spolit by the cramped seating table, with lots of waitering traffic flow around our table.

This place was awesome. The chili jalapeño prawns were yummy. Also the cheese soufflé was the dish of the night ! The picture doesn’t do it justice - delicate with an amazing cheese sauce Loved the fish and chips - specifically the mushy peas were better than most places. The fish pie is creamy and comforting The basque cheesecake with cherry was perfect !

What a place! First of host was welcoming and professional. We had a drink while they prepared our table. The waitress was lovely and again, very professional. We had the oysters which were fresh, then we had the seafood platter!! This platter was amazing, lobster, big prawns, scallops, mussels, so tasty and one thing I commend them on, is the hot temperature of the food, everything came out nice and pipping hot, which I appreciated. Well seasoned and tasty! I will defo be going back again! However, I must say I noticed there was a cover charge on my receipt, when I got home. So I called to ask what this was, the lady told me, you get charged for the linen, table cloth and napkins etc, she said all restaurants charge, i had to correct her and say they don’t as I was looking at another resturant bill and that wasn’t on there. J Sheekey charge £2 per person, not sure I liked that, considering it’s not the cheapest restaurant.

Legendary place on London’s culinary scene. Still up to it's hype and glory. We were very pleased with everything. The service was attentive, friendly and non obstructive. The food was tasty, well prepared, cooked and came with great timing. The ambient was like in traditional, classic old fashioned restaurant in the 60ties. The crowd was full of eccentric, interesting individuals (lots of them dressed in very flamboyant manner). All in all it's a place to be, to see, to be seen, to hang out and enjoy lively Central London in all it's glory. Definitely a place for many regular visits, holding history and many fantastic memories. One of very few in London still being it's own league. Well done J Sheekey!!!

good welcome and generous portions to the point that for 2 adults and a child, we only had 2 fish and chips. I removed one star because the whole thing was very greasy, to the point that oil was leaking from the cans. otherwise nothing to complain about. Please note it is not possible to pay other than in cash.

Honestly one of the best nights I’ve had in central London. The sushi was next level. The staff were super friendly, and the whole place has a luxe but not too stuffy feel. Great energy, great food, great crowd. Will 100% be back.

Amazing service from Stephan, who made set a new level of customer friendly service! I had the surf and turf which was good but as it was a rib eye, I would have liked to see it cooked a bit more towards a medium rare (as the ribeye needs the fat rendered) also side-note for the company and just my opinion, thicker steaks would make for better eating and cooking, I don't mind paying some more or even having it smaller in size but thicker for the same weight. Overall, I had a great evening and 100% worth the visit!!
