Nice Japanese cuisine with a mixture of ramen, sushi and soups as well as a good variety of starters. We particularly enjoyed the soft-shell crab, the maki sushi and the fish soup, which came with plenty of salmon and some squid. It was really nice and light sat in the window, and the service was attentive and good throughout.

Went here for a family birthday meal and was really pleased we did. The restaurant does a buffet style menu or a normal menu. We chose the normal menu and a few side dishes and all the food was amazing and came out really quickly. The staff were really friendly and helpful and for a restaurant in Clifton/whiteladies Rd, I was pleasantly surprised with the price of the food. Id definitely coming here if you like Japanese food, we'll be coming back.

Ate here on Thursday 4th of July - the worst service I have ever experienced eating out. We waited two hours for food and even then the main course of our order got cancelled. Arrived at 7pm, was seated with no menus, no chopsticks & napkins etc. Did not even receive a menu until 45 minutes after being seated. When we were finally able to find someone to make our order we had already been seated for an hour. We ordered drinks and food - half an hour more waiting and no drinks had arrived. We called over a waiter who went to bring over the wine and informed us that the menu hadn’t been explained to us properly and they would have to remove particular items from our order. After an hour and a half of being there, we had only just received our wine and were so hungry that we decided to stay. Our food finally came out at 9pm, two hours after arriving. My main was removed from the order so I had to sit and watch my partner eat his with only small dishes to eat for myself. In all of this time we were offered no water and everything we received e.g. food, drinks, cutlery we only got after asking multiple times and after trying to get the attention of a team who were rushing around trying to keep up with demand. It was so bad that the family dining next to us offered us their leftovers because we had been sat for so long with nothing. We ate within 10 minutes and left after paying the bill quickly as possible. It was honestly the worst experience and genuinely really upsetting. The team of staff all seemed like lovely people, the service was just entirely disappointing. Left still hungry and upset by the entire evening.

Service was terrible. No water offered for table. No soy sauce brought to table with sushi. It was a struggle to find a server throughout. I ordered a "sushi cake" prior to the meal, but it was not ready so I had to delay ordering food once we sat down to hold out for the 'surprise'. Second round of drinks did not arrive after ordering for a long time, so we decided to get the bill. Food was excellent. Unfortunately, on balance I won't be coming back.

We went for the Thursday Buffet - I would seriously recommend. I saw a previous comment that it was too slow, but this is very far from what I experienced. The staff were so attentive, always looking around to see if people had finished and bringing out more sheets to order from, and the sushi came out fast. It was all delicious too. Definitely coming back

I saw this Izakaya branch did a sushi buffet every Thursday but couldn't see any reviews about it, I've had a sushi buffet once before and really enjoyed it so seeing as Izakaya is already a good restaurant I thought I'd try it out. You get 1 hour and 30 minutes, you order in rounds (I was one person so it was 3 items per round), you can order as many rounds as you like within the time limit and the only limits are 2 maximum orders from a selection of Don, salmon sashimi and eel nigiri plus 1 maximum order of the black sesame, green tea and mochi ice-cream. The selection apart from the above consists of 4 different uramaki rolls with a variation of prawn, salmon and surimi. All the usual makis (salmon, tuna etc), nigiri (salmon, tuna, prawn and a few others like surimi), some hot tapas options (karaage, takoyaki, pork/vegetable gyozas, chicken yakitori, spring rolls, miso soup and a few others) and then desserts which are the above ice-creams, vanilla ice-cream and taiyaki. All I can say is that I absolutely loved this experience. You get more than enough sushi in the time frame (and I eat a lot), rolls contained really decent ingredients and it was such a fair trade-off between price and the nicer options in sushi (nigiri, sashimi etc). I paid approx £25 for the sushi buffet + 10% service charge which I was more than happy to pay given the great service. All the waiting staff were also very attentive and didn't let me sit for too long without asking if I need anything or would like another round. Only one tiny gripe was that the last round had surimi uramaki when I thought I selected the ebi salmon one but that's so tiny and I'm sure they would've changed it if I said. 10/10, for anyone thinking of the sushi buffet you won't be disappointed. It's delicious and the service is great.

Came for my birthday for the sushi buffet. 11/10. Excellent service, they didn’t miss a thing, very friendly and helpful. It was very well ordered and ran smoothly. The food was amazing, good range of choices and great quality. Highly recommend and I will be back! Not a bad word to say!

First time here and popped in spontaneously. Had a selection of tapas, the salad and octopus skewers were especially good but all the food was delicious. Lovely staff and pleasant environment, will come back again.

Distinctly average. Food was fine, nothing special. Had high expectations which weren’t met. Staff weren’t that helpful or friendly. Decor is cool

Amazing Staff, Brilliant Food, Definitely going again.

Lovely place for Japanese cuisine if you've not experienced this delicatessen before. Good food, quick service and friendly staff. Food looks nice and sizes are normal. Price it is a little bit pricely for what it is. Opening hours could be better. In my personal opinion, I would like to have some traditional Japanese music at the background. Some staff looks like it was their first day working, with wrong orders, and a chaos to pay the bill. Anyway, even that I would recommend it and I will come back again.

Had lovely anniversary dinner date here fee months back. Lots of sashimi/sushi options. We chose the mixed sashimi platter which tasted nice and fresh. Curry was good. Takoyaki wasn’t bad. Ambiance is cute.

Me and the boys had a great time here. Jessica really looked after our table and gave good sake recommendations! We will be back! <3

Excellent Japanese food. Takoyaki and ebi croquettes were amazing! Great selection of both tapas, sushi and main dishes. Katsu curry was thick and authentic.

Found this lovely little spot when i was in Bristol for work. The staff were very friendly and the prices not too expensive for what we got. The food was great and we had some really great sushi bits.

One of the best returants my friends and I have been to for a while, we went for her birthday and the food/quality/value for money was great. Jessica was so sweet and made our evening lush. Overall atmosphere was soooo nice, decor was cute and already speaking about our next visit? I recommend the Bara Don.

I came here today with my Sister and has two main dishes. We came here because they had suitable vegan options. As a vegan the options were good enough. The tofu and spring onion was excellent, it included seaweed which I had never tried but really enjoyed it. Atmosphere was excellent and so was the service, I will definitely come here again. I would really like to see more vegan options on the menu.

If they had an option for 6 stars they would have deserved it especially for the service and Jessica would have got 7 stars, loved it here, we will be back 😊😊

Really lovely restaurant. Food is really nice and tasty. The service is excellent. They are really friendly and good with my 3 year old daughter so we go at least 3 times a month. We especially love their gyozas, ebi sushi and the teriyaki salmon with rice and broccoli.

The staff here are super friendly and efficient. I like that you can ‘tick’ what you want from a list! Food was really delicious and the space was comfortable, clean and vibrant. Can’t wait to come back already!

Beautiful traditional Japanese restaurant with a casual atmosphere and lovely staff. Everything we had was brilliant, would recommend the ebi, plum sake and coconut mochi! Can’t wait to go back 😊

Good food for a yearn killer, but a little pricey for a full adult meal

We came here for the tasting menu and will definitely be coming back! It was such good value for money (lots of courses and drinks too) and we were so full leaving.

Had a fantastic meal here with friends on Friday night - our 2nd time following a great 1st visit with our children. Lovely relaxed restaurant with good selection of japanese tapas, delicious sushi and quick & friendly service from Jessica and team.

Izakaya recently opened their new branch in Clifton and it’s not one that disappoints, plenty of tapas options to choose from, good selection of fresh sashimi and sushi to choose from.

We started off our meal with a refreshing homemade fresh mint lemonade and then tried some of their starters - Seaweed salad which tasted very fresh and had a lovely roasted sesame flavour from the toasted sesame seeds and roasted sesame oil. Followed by salted edamame pea pods which I haven't had in ages! Then we tried this off the menu special - this layered sushi 'cake' which had a beautiful tuna sashimi flower, buttery salmon sashimi, sushi rice, roe, sliced avocado, kewpie mayo and crab sticks. Keep an eye out for bigger version / birthday cakes of these in the future! Then we had the Pumpkin Japanese curry with sushi rice - this was so comforting and delicious. I especially enjoyed the sauce and sweet fried Pumpkin. Followed by this beautiful sushi boat! This felt v special as I haven't had sushi from a restaurant in ages. This was filled with a selection of 20 pieces of sushi selected by the chef - including sashimi, uramaki and hosomaki mmmmm. Then we tried a selection of their desserts - black sesame ice cream which was on point. Red bean doroyaki (Hal's first time trying) which was delicious. I'd never tried it chocolate sauce or cream which was a great edition. Followed by the cheesecake, berry and green mathca mochi ice cream - super chewy and delicious. My fave was the berry one and Hal enjoyed the cheesecake flavour. If you haven't already - make sure to check out Izakaya's wonderful new bright venue and if you've got a special occasion coming up check out their private hire options. I can't wait for my next visit to go back and get more fish! FYI - they have great gluten free and vegan options too 👀 .

An absolutely wonderful place to dine in and eat at, the staff/service are/is wonderful. The food is absolutely divine with good portion sizes. I've been twice and received the exact same service from different staff and the food was of the same excellent quality. The takoyaki is excellent, the best in Bristol, and is served hot and fresh, the karaage chicken is really good and you get a very generous portion, the gyoza are delicious and well cooked, but are perhaps a little less generous with the portion (4). Their sushi is great too, it tastes fresher than a lot of places that serve sushi specifically, I'm not sure if it's made to order, but it certainly doesn't taste like it's been sat around! The atmosphere inside is lovely, it's got a homely Japanese feel to it whilst still abiding by our western expectations, and is clean, well lit and ventilated. We had one friend who wasn't particularly skilled with chopsticks, and the staff happily provided alternative cutlery without judgement, which was wonderful to see I heartily recommend that you grab a few friends, book a table here and enjoy yourselves, make sure to try some sake too!

We had a great time at the new izakaya Clifton restaurant, it’s my new favourite Japanese restaurant in Bristol. The food is delicious and fresh, and the staff are very welcoming and attentive. Big shout out to Jessica who looked after us during our time there, and inspired us to try our first ever poke bowl!

Possibly the worst managed restaurant I’ve been to. Clearly don’t know how to get staff and it shows in the quality of the service. Also seems like the staff are very poorly treated as well from the general atmosphere in the restaurant. Would not recommend at all.

Lovely staff, delicious food with healthy and veggie options too.

Decent variety of dishes, mostly focusing on sushi and sashimi, which were very good with reasonable prices. Their pumpkin croquettes were super tasty. We could see the restaurant was busy during weekends and atmosphere felt great. Can’t comment on their service as we ordered takeaway from the restaurant, but the staff were very welcoming during our brief interactions and food was ready right on time for 6 of us.

The freshest sushi, most delicious selection of little plates as well. We had edamame, pumpkin croquettes (insane!!), the signature uramaki selection and some salmon nigiri. They also do 0% asahi which was really good. Lovely chilled vibe inside too and brill service. Can’t wait to go back!!
