Shame was a great little pub ,excellent beer .Unfortunately like the 4 banks that have closed ,it is no longer .This town needs major investment or it is dead

Been going here for a while and love the cosy atmosphere of this place: particularly in winter when the log fire is burning, but most of it is made by some of the locals who go in. The beer (real ale) and cider (Old Rosie) are some of the best kept in the area and well worth a visit for that alone; particularly at lunch times when you can savour the small rooms or the garden. No food is served at the moment but that hopefully may change in the future.

Popped in to use the toilet while my husband ordered a taxi, fully intending on going in for a beer while we waited. However, was made to feel so unwelcome after leaving the toilet that we didn’t bother. Plenty of lovely friendly pubs and people in Newcastle Emlyn can’t wait to return but not to The Ivy!

We visited this pub a couple of afternoons last week. The beer was cellar temperature and a very well kept,I could easily have stayed for a few more pints, alas time meant we needed to be elsewhere ! It was a quaint pub.No chrome and flash decor or music, some would say run down.A true locals pub.The landlord did not enter into conversation with us,that`s not say he wouldn`t had we gone a few more times. This type of pub is fast disappearing to the detriment of serious beer drinkers.

Called in this pub a few times during my stay in Newcastle Emlyn and I am glad I did, the beer was fantastic as were the staff behind the bar. I spent a few hours in this pub and enjoyed every minute, it is quaint, has a pool table in the rear and plenty of seating. I understand that the lady that was running the pub was doing so until they found someone to take it over, I believe this lady would make a fine manager herself. Thanks for the memories.

Called in for a pint whilst waiting for a takeaway and found it very welcoming with a good atmosphere. So much so we have been back numerous times In the ten days in the area on holiday. Wednesday is pie night. What great value for money (£6) all homemade! Can't wait for Sunday lunch. Good beer.Good food = Great pub.

Popped in on the off chance for food, we were greeted by the new landlord that made us feel very welcome. Got given the menu which although small we were all very impressed with the dishes of choice. The Landlord appeared a few times at the table to check on us and just to give us a good welcome. We chatted about him being new to the pub and lots going on and all the new ideas for food that he wanted to offer his customers (all sounds good!) great customer service and plenty to look forward to. Will definitely go back and highly recommend it. Thank you for looking after us

My wife and I are locals and have been waiting for nearly two years for The Ivy Bush to return to it's former glory. And now it has. Under new landlords Ned and Zak it has been transformed. Ned has been in the pub trade for many years and is great behind the bar. Zak is a really good chef. Good simple food is now being done both at lunch and in the evening. A traditional friendly pub that won't rip you off.

This was probable the best real ale pub for miles around. However, since the long- time tenant left in September 2015 things have began to slide. Six, yes six, landlords have come and gone in the last nine months, the last one departed on 31 July 2016. Surprisingly the beer has maintained its high standard and has been reduced in price. Quite a few of the locals no longer frequent the place. Thankfully no food is served here, it is simply a good old fashioned ale house and long may it remain so! Hopefully the new manager will make a go of it, and put things back on an even keel.

I visited the Ivy Bush whilst staying at the Clydey Cottages some four miles away. This pub is well worth a visit and is on the main square in the village of Newcastle Emlyn. The locals are always eager to chat with you around the log fire. Car parking is available for a very low fee just a couple of hundred yards away. The high street of Newcastle Emlyn is just a few yards away where you can explore a many varied shops and restaurants in the village.

Though this pub is owned by Punch Taverns they have not spoilt the interior. Always two real ales & a large selection of other drinks. It is a drinkers pub with lots of atmosphere. They do not serve food but have filled rolls available on the bar. It is not a pub to take children, in fact children are not welcome. The landlord may seem abrupt but it iall show, he can be very accommodating, unless you upset him.

Great pub, friendly staff, lovely log fire on the go....most importantly great beer! can't wait to go back! (as prev reviewer stated have to agree with him about the idiot that thinks it's ok to use a private car park to buy chips and eat them...without entering the pub or making a purchase)

Actually despite the previous reviewers remarks this is a friendly local pub. It serves excellent food and very good beers.. It is sociable and friendly.with a lovely log fire in winter.I must take issue with the previous reviewer. Newcastle Emlyn is a busy market town and the Ivy Bush is at the junction of the two main roads into town. Its car park (in a town where parking is at a premium) has room for only four cars.I think it is the height of rudeness and ill manners to park in a small pub car park, go and get chips(when the pub itself serves food) and then go and sit in the car to eat the chips. Why not buy a drink at the pub and eat the chips outside? No wonder they were chased off!!! Surely the polite and proper thing to do was ask the landlords permission and inform him of their intentions.I thought this was a review of pubs etc - not their car parks and their misuse .I recommend this pub to anyone visiting Emlyn because of its atmosphere (it does not have sports tv which adds to the ambience) and its food.

Having driven for 2 1/2 hours to Newcastle Emlyn for a week long break in nearby accommodation we decided to try out the Ivy Bush for a swift pint and see if it would be suitable as our local for the week. Having parked out the front of the pub my wife nipped next door to get us a bag of chips to share to tide us over prior to a potential evening meal at the Ivy Bush. As soon as my wife sat down in the seat next to me, a very large and aggressive pub employee stormed around to my window and started shouting abuse at me demanding I get of the pub car park. Having attempted to reason with the individual and explain that we had friends joining us for the week and that we were about to sample the hospitality, the individual became even more aggressive forcing us to make a rapid escape. Needless to say we chose another pub as our local for the week.

Portion sizes are massive!! Such good value. All the food is cooked to perfection and not greasy. The batter on the fish bites and sausage is crispy and not brittle. You can also tell the fish is fresh. Perfect amount of salt and vinegar and they also delivered to Kao Woodland park. The people I spoke to on the phone were so polite and so were there people that delivered my food. I’m not from Carmarthen but will need to come back just for this!!
