My first ever Ivor Dewdney pasty and it was based on me as an 11 year seeing a queue outside King Street Plymouth. My dad told me they were the “best pasties” all those years ago in the Steak and Omelette Bar. 46 years later I gave one ago today. The shop itself appears bereft of any stock and so I assumed the rush had occurred and they’d all gone. Anyway a friendly member of staff came out and I asked for a Medium Steak. She retrieved it from the rear, and was £3.20. Whilst there an elderly lady came in a bought 3 frozen versions which she said were great standbys in the freezer. I trotted off home and had said pasty. First thing it’s flaky pastry - which isn’t a big deal - I prefer shortcrust. Pasty didn’t have a “handle” side or topped crimp and there wasn’t a seam at all which I thought strange. Filling was really quite fine, predominantly potato/swede and wasn’t exceptionally “tasty.” Little contrasting meat so difficult to assess quantities. There was very little gravy or moisture but it was well filled. All in all I was not overly impressed. I’ve yet to find a volume-produced pasty to be honest and so my quest continues. Dad was Cornish as was my grandmother, and I regularly make 10” diameter wide crimped pasties. Whether this was a one off I don’t know. There are smaller outlets who can manage a pasty just about but I think the best are made at home?

Just bought two traditional from Newton Abbot. Absolutely vile, even the dog turned her nose up. Luke warm, greasy dripping taste, pastry like greasy rubber. £7.00 down the drain. Heading g for the bin where it belongs.

Wow, drove to newton abbot specifically for a pastie reach for the family. Possibly the best pasty I've ever tasted. So flavoursome and prefect pastry, not too thick, not too thin. Excellent

Had a cheese an onion pasty, it was dry, overly salted, the filling was indistinguishable, no idea if it was cheese or onion that I tasted. Overall grim

Who can resist an Ivor Dewdney pasty. Oh so unhealthy and oh so delicious. A proper pasty.

Honestly the most vile pasty I’ve ever eaten clearly this store don’t clean the blackened trays that come stuck to the bottom of your pasty also every pasty you buy from there is a potato pasty no mean jus boiled potato and pastry

Whenever I am in Newton Abbot, which is not often due to coronavirus, I ALWAYS pop in for a large pasty as they are the best. This started almost 50 years ago in Sidwell Street in Exeter.

If you want an authentic pasty this is the place to buy one. Good selection of pasties at a very reasonable price that you can eat as soon as you leave the shop or leave them for later as a meal. Once you have tried on of these you will not want one from anywhere else.

Came here for frozen pasties for my grandad, he loved them and they cooked beautifully. The staff are really friendly, and the food is nice, its just a bit out of the way. Hence the 4 stars.

I know Dewdneys pasties from my childhood 3 musts when we visited Plymouth, visit grandparents, ferry rather than bridge into Cornwall and of course one or two Dewdney pasties. It is great to be able to get them in Newton Abbott too although we do still drop into Plymouth for a fix. We also get them via mail order. This service is brilliant. Thank you

Never had a bad pasty form Dewdneys, great place to just grab one on the go. We used to have to wait until visiting Plymouth or get them via the brilliant mail order service until we spotted the outlet in Newton Abbott. We still do mail order but it is great getting one from the shop

Central high street, easy to park, shop and move on. Always a smile from the ladies serving. Think the pasties have been on a steady diet (getting smaller ?...) over the years as the prices go up? Just wish they could have a hot oven in the shop rather than the walk to the shop to get your order and a paper bags then back out to get the pasty and then back to shop with it ?.. availability is "variable" (no rhyme nor reason to day / time!) as is how hot (or not?...) they are!.. Standard pasty is good - wish they offered a posh one too - more meat - posh / alternative veg ? and maybe a curried offering? I guess they do what they do ?..

Maybe it's because I'm no longer in Cornwall, but whatever the reason, I found my pasty from Ivor Dewdney the worst of many pasties I have eaten my way through on this trip in Cornwall and now Devon. The pasty was super tough, and the filling was bland, meat gristly, and service indifferent-to-rude. What particularly annoys me is when I 'm told that to use my debit card, I will need to add a .50 p surcharge. It should be cash or nothing, or cash or card, no strings attached.

Disappointing visit. We had received a recommendation to have a meal in this pub, but upon arrival it clearly stated that dogs were not welcome "due to food hygiene reasons". This must be one of the very few places in Devon where dogs are not allowed - not even Guide or Assistance dogs (which mine is). Sadly, we left.

I have just spent four very comfortable nights at the beautiful Ness Hotel. The location is beautiful with wonderful views across the water into Teignmouth. The rooms are very comfortable with big comfy beds and plenty of room. The decor is quirky and pretty with lots of nice finishing touches. It's all very restful and peaceful. The staff are extremely helpful, friendly and competent and go over and above to help especially in challenging situations as I witnessed whilst staying.

Went on a Saturday morning had to wait 50 mins to get my order of coffees and scone, their excuse was it was busy, if u run a cafe with that many seats u should at least be able to manage, some people were waiting over an hour and some had there food finished it and still waited for their coffees, need to improve on the service
