Itadaki Zen in Camden

It was the most unexpectedly yummy Beggie meal we ever had. The food was terrific, the restaurant was busy in the best possible way with the service being great and keepin up.

The food and service are good in this nice, little Japanese vegan restaurant. My favorite dish was the tempura mushrooms, some of the veggies and the tofu steak. The mapo tofu and deepfried eggplant was a bit disappointing after the rest, but all in all we had a good and lovely meal.

This is some of the best food I have had in years. So tasty and freshly prepared. Nice surroundings, friendly staff. Not cheap so only giving it a four. Definite recommendation but not if on a budget.

Absolutely fantastic! Lovely warm, unpretentious restaurant. The food is delicious and it was great fun to explore the menu. Friendly wait staff - very good service. I will definitely be back soon.

Had an absolutely lovely meal just before an evening out. It's a bit of a walk from Kings Cross station (about 10 mins). Some of the dishes are small and others are full size so I'd recommend either 4 small dishes or 1 main with a small dish. The small dishes we had were the croquettes (delicious and light), tofu steak (egg like texture and really delicious) and the homemade pickles (v salty, not the sour type). The mains were the tofu soboro don (looked plain but was v tasty and filling) and the spicy ramen (v nice, would recommend having tofu steak as a side with it). Staff are so polite and made our stay really comfortable and cosy. I had to give in and ask for a fork instead of the chopsticks, I feel so ashamed haha! Agree with the comments about the tables being very close together, make sure to take off your coat before sitting down otherwise you might sweep off a few plates from your neighbour, but honestly it's not a massive issue. Looking forward to visiting again.

Entered on a very hot evening . The restaurant was full but I was seated quickly. I had the miso aubergine and vegan dumplings . All were good and tasty but just a little something lacking . The cleanliness was a touch short also . I did enjoy seeing the fermenting jars though .

We ordered many dishes to try and the were all delicious. Both vegetarian and non-vegetarian loved it. The sake was good too (bit avoid the bubbly one). Desert were amazing too. And prices are really reasonable! We loved it.

I’ve never tried Japanese cuisine and my friend never tried vegan Japanese so this was an experience for both of us. It’s a very tight restaurant, I felt a little scared getting to the area in the dark. We’d reserved our table so we’re seated promptly. I think if you don’t honour your reservations they charge you £10 per person. They reuse the chopsticks which I can’t say I liked. But they’re trying to be eco friendly. The food was nice, maybe not something I’d have again. But it was nice. I can’t remember what the dishes were called but they were well presented. The staff were extremely nice however they misunderstood or forgot, and brought a dish out covered in Sesame seeds which my friend is allergic to.

This place serves a great range of vegetarian and vegan options that taste good and come out quite promptly. The tables are very close together, so maybe not the best place to have confidential or private conversations, but the atmosphere is great as a casual place to have a meal with friends, family, or solo. The restaurant runs on a very strict return table policy, so ideally make sure everyone on your table arrives on time and get to choosing food asap.

Authentic Japanese style cuisine. We particularly enjoyed the calamari, the aubergine and croquettes. Fantastic that it’s all vegan too. Thank you!

Had the lunch set menu at £13. Delicious gyoza and then vegan curry. My kids had the tofu steak in a delicious sauce and then ramen. All great food, delicious, hearty and good value. Really nice waiter gave us recommendations. Highly recommend!

Delicious authentic Japanese vegan! All the dishes we tried were very authentic Japanese, the spicy ramen , curry, kinpira carrot , mabo tofu, meatballs, “calamari “, everything done to perfection! This is the ONLY Authentic Japanese vegan restaurant in London, it’s owned and run by Japanese . The desserts they didn’t have much options now in the summer but I will go back in Oct / Nov hoping they will have their delicious pumpkin pie like before. The menu changes seasonally which again is very Japanese way of cooking. The service is fast, the guy ( I think he’s the manager I am not sure) is very nice and humble and smiling, but the two other female waitresses were a bit weird… I don’t know if is because they were shy or maybe because the place was very busy … maybe because I am used to seeing Japanese waitresses being super friendly and smiling in Japan and I forget that people soak up a different energy living in London . Overall their food is great and I wish they expand so they can move to a bigger premises and make the environment very cosy.

We were surprised to find this small vegan restaurant near Kings Cross. Having never eaten Japanese food before (I had been under the false impression that sushi was always fish) this was truly delicious. And very helpful staff to explain and translate. I even managed the chopsticks for most of the meal before reverting to a fork.

Well presented tasty food. The meals are mainly set meals which give a little of each but some items can be ordered separately. I found the tempura a little greasy but that's because I'm intolerant of fat. It was easy to pick off the batter. Booking is highly recommended as several people had to have a rushed meal as there was only an hour until the table was booked.

Ate here this evening, really enjoyed it. Very small restaurant ~8 tables but very good food. £65 for two people including 4 large bottles of beer. All vegan as expected, tofu is fantastic.

Habíamos oído grandes cosas sobre este lugar y nuestra comida no nos decepcionó. El ambiente era muy relajado, pero el camarero era muy atento. La decoración estaba un poco destartalada a la luz del día de un almuerzo, pero las mesas estaban casi llenas durante el tiempo que estuvimos allí, y la comida lo compensa. El bento box era una excelente relación calidad-precio, con una amplitud de textura y sabor, el sushi era fresco y sabroso. Mi esposo tenía el set de udon y amaba los rollitos de primavera crujientes y ligeros en solo 1 cada uno! Disfrutamos de todo y nos fuimos sintiendo realmente llenos a pesar de no probar ningún desierto.

First a note. This is seemingly run by Korean, as opposed to Japanese, workers. Having said that, the food was delicious and very inventive. Remember that Japanese food uses fish in most dishes, in the form of the fish itself, or fish based stock. So to be able to make vegan sushi and desserts taste this good is no mean feat.

Service was bad, I had to wait for the menu really long time, even people who came after me were served first. Once I ordered, waitress brought me wrong item twice. When I wanted to order desert she said they are not serving it today. The overall atmosphere was unwelcoming. Food itself was really bad, everything was cold, lacked flavor and soaked in oil. Oil is pretty much all I could taste and I could still feel the it's aftertaste an hour later! I really don't understand all the good reviews.

We went here for dinner as I love Japanese and have not indulged since I became vegan. I got the bento box which was delicious although it could have had a bit more to it.

A friend recommended this restaurant. I was returning to England after a long stint overseas and asked my mum to make a reservation on my behalf. She phoned many times over several days at different times and no one answered the phone so she was unable to make a reservation.

Went here yesterday, there were only a couple of people in there when we arrived so very quiet. The staff were not very welcoming, extremely quiet. The took ages to ask if we wanted drinks, we sat there for at least 15 min before being offered a drink. We had to signal to them to come and serve us.

A lovely little spot, tucked away from the sometimes overwhelming parts of Kings Cross. The menu is all organic and vegan. My friend and I shared the grilled tofu starter and both had one of the bento boxes along with a glass of white wine which came to £31 each. This did seem a bit much for what was essentially a tasty but quite unremarkable vegetarian bento box with a drink.

No soy muy exigente en cuanto a comer allí o para llevar como estoy viajando no tengo lugar donde estar, así que este lugar no tenía mesas para sentarse porque estaban tan ocupados que llevar ordenados. Tuve 5 de tofu y fideos con rollos. Los fideos con tofu era literalmente algo de fideos con dos piezas de tofu, sin sabor, nada. No puedo comer bollos sin salsa de soja y no había para llevar, que es la caída en la toma de distancia no se puede pedir condimentos: (

I went there with my vegan friend, I knew I was not going for an ordinary sushi but was over my expectations. The udon noodles are really good and fresh and we tried little bit of everything. Good value for money.

Está muy bien preparado y organizado y las opciones de vino de arroz son buenas, con vino de arroz coreano arroz y vino fermentado (Coreano) ofrecido. A vegan Japanese restaurant is a rare beast and if you haven't been it's definitely worth trying. I have been 3-4 times now and really want to love it, but I just can't get there. The food is just okay - each main course I've tried has been passable but underwhelming. Last time I had over-oily Chapche set noodles and my friend had an udon noodle soup. We didn't particularly enjoy them but they were okay. The tofu spring rolls were good, however, and I'd recommend them. The cheesecake was fine. The sake was too sweet - we asked for it to be warm but arrived nearly boiling. The service was pleasant but slow and not attentive. The food lacks sophistication. Many other reviewers seem to disagree with me, which is why I have kept trying it, but sadly I think this will be my last visit.

We were very excited to come across this place, couldn't wait to be able to have just a wide selection of the Japanese cuisine I really enjoy but is not very vegetarian/vegan friendly.

I am not a particular fan of Japanese food but my husband and children are. Therefore, when they spotted this place close to our hotel (Crowne Plaza) they insisted that we go. I was out voted. It is a small restaurant and we were lucky to get a place at 9pm on a Friday night - fortunately some people were leaving as we walked in.We did not realise that it was vegan until we sat down and looked at the menu, and I confess that I was even less enthusiatsic. However, much to my surprise, I really enjoyed the food and found it very tasty indeed. That did surprise me as I had ordered the "Tendon Set" which consisted of rice, tempura and miso, thinking that it was fairly "safe." It was all very tasty yet did not seem to have lots of additives and simply consisted of very fresh, good quality ingredients. The others had sushi which they also found to be excellent. And my son immediately messaged his vegan friend who lives in London to recommend it.

Itadaki Zen has a similar feeling, which was a good indication of what was to come.The staff were welcoming upon arrival and were expecting us as we had booked.The menu has a lot of sets, which is probably the easiest/simplest way to order a traditional Japanese meal, with vegan dishes.I don't like to have rice as well as sushi so I ordered lots of small plates to share, they arrived regularly and with style. When ordering, we were told the tempura would take time, and it did arrived last. WIth a full restaurant this shows there is good management and the kitchen is operating as expected. The standout is the sushi, we ordered 12 pieces to share and...wow! 12 totally different sushi arrived. I expected sets of 2 but here it is clear that creativity meets elegance in everything they do. Everything was delicious and we managed to have a dessert each, a first for us when eating out, which is high praise for the correctly portioned food, the quality of ingredients and the light touch of the kitchen.The wines we chose we enjoyed, the list had enough to choose from. The restaurant is simply decorated in the Japanese style.If you are vegan, this is unmissable. If you love Japanese food, try something different here. I will return and would feel confident to bring guests.

I went here a while ago, but have since been to japan, and I can say that apart from having to get their attention to serve you nothing is similar, especially the quality of the food which was not very good. Although it was a while ago so my memory isn't very fresh I still remember that I wouldn't visit again.

Bento box was really tasty, the salad was delicious! I particularly liked the fact the spring roll had tofu in as this is something I've never had before. Had a side portion of kimchi which was by far the best I've had. Our waiter was very friendly. Only suggestion would be perhaps some Japanese beer!

Their Bento boxes are absolutely delicious! Kaiseki tempura to die for. Okara balls are great. Service is friendly and the restaurant has a relatively quiet and calm atmosphere. Easily my new favourite restaurant.As with many Japanese restaurants you can order lots of the same things you can get at dinner for lunch at a lower price, so if you want to try this place out I recommend going for lunch first (and then inevitably finding every reason to keep going back regardless of the time of day)
