Isle of Purbeck Golf Club in Purbeck

We had high hopes that were sadly not met. Food very average, mainly bought in, pub fare (we had bar menu). There was nothing wrong with the service, but from the laminated menus to decor including the empty cigarette machine (who uses these now?) on the wall, it had an outdated, underinvested feel. Not a place I’d rush to for that special meal. However, the views over Poole harbour were fantastic. I think the tone was set by the guy behind the reception desk rolling his fag. This place could be fantastic, such a shame.

Spectacular course - with amazing views over Bournemouth, its surroundings, and the sea all around when we played it in early October. Recommend playing in fairer weather. Almost all of its 18 holes have something special, but it's not an easy course to play.

We always make a point of driving 2.5hrs to play this gem of a golf course every year. It is a fantastic golf course and in great condition, there are many challenges and so many stand out holes. The scenery is stunning , the staff are very friendly and we always enjoy a meal in the clubhouse with those views. Thanks again for a wonderful experience and we look forward to next year and many more to come.

Stunning golf course that will test all your skills and abilities. Pick your tee box wisely. Played here in late July & was able to book a reasonably priced green fee on their website in the afternoon. First impressions in the pro-shop were excellent and that is because we met the manager (apologies I have forgotten your name) who chatted to use and helped us with sorting out an electric buggy and giving help on how to play the first holes to get us started. Wonderful way to start the round, thank you. Isle of Purbeck Golf Club has some stunning views on some great holes, so be prepared to get some amazing photos as you walk the course. If you are walking, be prepared as it is a big course to walk with ups & downs for all 18 holes. The reason for 4* is that we were held up by a 4 ball of tourists who really didn't know how to play at a decent pace or understand that they were holding up play & should have allowed us and another group to play through. There were no course marshals to manage the pace of play. This was quite frustrating. The course was dry and the greens were in good condition, we were lucky enough to play on a warm sunny afternoon, which obviously helped with the positive experience. There are plenty of interesting & different holes on this course. No experience of the clubhouse or the restaurant as we were late finishing our round & needed to leave as soon as we finished. Looking forward to returning.

Really enjoyable round at Isle of Purbec Golf Club, greens are running fast and true, rough is tough and unforgiving (if you can find the ball !) Of particular note are the views around the course, which are unsurpassed !

Great views and good options for beginners

Use this place a few times each year as we love the view and the quirkiness of the place. On our most recent visit we were disappointed with the lack of care on our plates. Ciabatta was stodgy and not cooked enough and side salad was a wedge of iceberg with a slice of tomato. Previously the side salad has had a variety of items and been delicious. Filling was tasty and plentiful. Such a lovely place please don't ruin the quality of your food.

Course great no change from 30 years ago even the scruffy paths, condition of course really good

Lovely freshly made roast beef sandwich (flavourful bread with generous slices of delicious tender beef) with a separate fresh and tasty side salad (assorted fresh leaves, tomatoes, cucumber, red and green grapes, toasted seeds in a flavourful dressing). Delicious to the last forkful! The view was amazing but the food would merit a return visit

If looking for a lovely place for a lunch in Purbeck this restaurant is wonderful. Firstly the menu is varied and excellent. Our group of 6 starters included Smoked Salmon, Calamari, Brie, and Compressed melon. Main courses included Ribeye steak and Sea Bream. The salad and vegetable selections were good. The desserts included Sticky toffee pudding with toffee ice cream and sauce, and Eton Mess. We ate far too much! The portions are generous and the standard of cuisine extremely good. The wine list is varied and reasonable. Secondly, you may not find a better restaurant view than overlooking the golf course and heathland towards Brownsea Island and Poole Harbour. Beautiful setting. Service was efficient and friendly

Stunning place with helpful staff. Was my first ever time playing 18 holes and probably couldn’t have picked a more picturesque course in England. Really, really tricky course. Was playing with a few guys who play golf often and they were all up in arms at how difficult it was. The wind is a killer

Great course, amazing views, if the wind is up it plays really tough, be prepared to lose a lot of balls. Well worth a visit.

Fabulous setting for golf and some very interesting holes. A little unforgiving in places, especially for the higher handicap! A great experience on the course and the club terrace has a view unparalleled for any golf course in England. Always receive a very warm welcome.Only small criticism, the greens a little patchy considering the quality of most at the moment.

Wonderful course!! Amazing views We had lovely time and cannot wait to come back. Terry at the proshop is very friendly and gave us a warm welcome. This was in October 2023. We played it again in June 24 and we still love this course!

Lunch was good on a cloudy and rainy day. Quiet on a Monday. Was refreshing trying a new non alcoholic beverage. Thank you from a South African on holiday.

We only stopped in for Coffee, Cake & some wonderful views on a group bike ride but the staff were great, we were treated really well & both coffee & cake were top notch.

Another absolutely delicious meal in the Restaurant with the best view in Purbeck. A group of all ages celebrating a birthday the restaurant made my dad a personalised card and made him feel very special. The waiting & bar staff were lovely. We can highly recommend this restaurant that consistently produces scrumptious dishes of quality, hearty food. We love it!

Hi just had an lovely lunch time meal for 6 . Food was great but found it hard to enjoy as the restaurant was very cold taking in to account that it was a cold day more heating would have made it better. My wife & I have been there many times but are 4 friends have not it makes us worried about recommending it to others. . Also my wife had a hair in her dinner which on mentioned to the staff was met with indifference

I didn't play golf but, wow, the view from the clubhouse must be one of the best of any golf club in England. Excellent food as well.

Played today (20th Dec) course in pretty good condition considering the time of year, greens were good, friendly and helpful pro shop and restaurant

We’ve been here a few times but this visit was up there with best. The food has always been great and of course stunning views over Poole harbour to enjoy but the service on this occasion was brilliant. The courses were excellently paced allowing us to have a relaxed Sunday lunch over two hours in the restaurant. Everyone was extremely friendly and helpful. It’s worth the taxi ride from the town centre to have a delicious traditional Sunday roast that’s great value with amazing views.

A view to die for and you don't have to be a golfer or member to enjoy it. Afternoon tea is nice, lunch bar menu is very unexciting and the actual food even less exciting, haven't eaten in the restaurant for some years but I'm told it's still good.

Took visiting friends here for a lunch on a Saturday. We’d been before but it was their 1st visit. They were thrilled with the location and views, which are superb. Our server was lovely. Wish I could remember her name, but considering I’d got the arrival time wrong and turned up 30 mins late, she was very gracious and showed us to our table with a view as requested. The food is excellent, well presented and delicious. 3 courses of this quality is well worth the £31 and you don’t have to be a member to dine there. We all thoroughly enjoyed every course. If you’re in the area and want a good lunch or dinner, you’d be missing out not to eat here.

Welcoming reception, offered a lovely table in the bar with great views. Pleasant table service and lunch ruined by the fact that we were very obviously the only table asked to pay for our food before it arrived. There were several tables around us that were not asked to settle their bills until they were ready to leave. Would like to understand the rationale for this?

Had a wonderful meal at the golf club. Very generous portion sizes and really good quality food. The view from the restaurant was incredible over looking the purbecks. Would definitely recommend dining here.

Played today was very windy but thoroughly enjoyed it and very reasonable priced as the greens and fairways are probably the best in Dorset by far and the views I don't think u can beat as king Edward once said best in his kingdom hah

Disastrous meal. Fawlty towers-esque. The barman messed up our simple three item meal order and bought a meat filled chibata for a vegetarian. He should be more concerned with remembering orders than telling ladies to take off their hats (put a sign at the door if that's the rules). Had to call for attention to order in an empty restaurant... Three staff were too busy chatting.....at one point we got to hear a waitress making insulting comments about a group of Chinese women who had just left. Totally unprofessional. Food itself was student level cooking, think bad pub food, uninspiring and basic.

I first played this fantastic course around 35 years ago and yesterday with the strong winds, bright sunshine, and drizzle in the 4 1/2 hour round, with best views of any golf course I have ever played, I could not believe the quality of the fairways, rough or greens. The day was completed with great sandwiches and beer in the wonderful clubhouse presented by very friendly helpful staff. All twelve of us will be back soon for more!!

Stunning views. Clubhouse food excellent. Only played the 9 holes course, but fine for holiday golf.

Tough but fair course and a good straight tree shot will give you your just rewards, but, if you happen to have a bit of a bad round, just look at the scenery, it's stunning!!

Don't play golf but for a reasonably priced breakfast or lunch with incredible views across the local area this is a winner. You an sit and watch the golfers tee off, yachts sailing out of Poole and the wonderful countryside. Food was surprisingly good, especially the sausages and bacon.

This is the best golf course I have ever played. It's not just the scenery - absolutely spectacular (so spectacular that it could easily be the kind of golf course that affords lovely 'texture shots' for TV cameras), but it's a golf course that makes you think. Nothing of the sort of boring parkland courses where you just hit a driver, establish the yardage to green and select that club, but the gorse is so punishing that you're continually working out where NOT to leave the ball if you miss your target in the clifftop wind. If I ruled the world, the absolutely gorgeous loop of 4-5 holes that overlooks Old Harry features too early in the round - it would make a spectacular finish and an abiding memory of the place. As it is, the final 4-5 holes are a slightly drab affair ploughing back and forth over what could be farmland in another guise. If the course had better access and slightly longer yardage, it'd befit the British Open, no question.

Played this course with my son earlier this week. Was unsure what to expect as we previously heard mixed reviews. Staff were great and the course was in incredible condition. Thoroughly enjoyed the day and will no doubt be visiting again.

1st time here, very friendly staff and service, clean and spacious room with a grand view of the golf course and the islands between Poole Harbour. Meal was very nice, we all enjoyed what we had.

Very nice course, tough in the wind but a fair challenge. Fairways were good, greens solid. Only improvement would be to add a few more signs to make next T location clear. The clubhouse is great, amazing views and honest food. All staff were friendly - a good day out.

Great views of Poole Harbour, don't need to be a member to go in the cafe / restaurant/ bar. Friendly staff.

Always have a meal here when we are down in our caravan. Nice food, with a view to die for. Staff always helpful too. Not a member but always feel welcomed.

We ate here on Wednesday with a large group. The views from the restaurant are magnificent. The staff were brilliant! We felt very COVID secure. The food was delicious and the staff attentive, efficient and friendly. I would absolutely recommend this venue for groups or couples for an excellent dining experience. Excellent place for Sunday lunch with beautiful views

The views from the course over Poole Harbour and Brownsea Island are truly spectacular. It is a challenging course and the greens and tees are in good condition. It is such a shame and very disappointing that over 80% of the fairways are in a truly appalling state. They are, by some distance, the worst fairways I have played on, full of deep holes, undulating ridges and bare patches. Although the fairways were being re-seeded as we played, they really need the holes to be filled and levelled. Much investment is required. The welcoming clubhouse shares those magnificent views and happily the staff and food were excellent. WHS Index 22.0 I went round in 98

One of the best courses in the area and great value for money. Stunning views and the course was in decent shape. The greens were very good if not a little slow and the fairways are all being over-seeded. It looks like they've suffered a bit during the year. Excellent food and service in the club house.

Hard golfing, as go 3 inches off the fairway and bye bye ball, I would suggest that you are ready to play straight golf for 18 hole's

Lovely views of Sandbanks, Poole, Bournemouth Isle of Wight. Great layout with excellent greens fairways was dry on quite a few but don't let that stop you from visiting. All members of staff were very friendly and helpful, and few drinks after a game of golf on the terrace with views to die for what a great way to end a perfect day.
