Came in for light brunch, the sourdough they serve here is so delicious, you can have it with VG spread, butter or jam. The service was lovely and so was the space. It was a relaxing break from being stuck out in the rain.

Popped in for breakfast on a Friday. Good luck if you're hoping to park ended up parking 18 mins away, plus cobbles in the run up, a little bit brutal on wheelchairs. Was really quiet but people were popping in and out. Music was giving an echo heavy space some atmosphere, really lo-fi, good for a lazy day. Loos are annoyingly across the cobbled road in the museum though and were like....well museum toilets which kind of takes a shine off the experience a little bit. Staff were super accommodating and attentive, no complaints- they got a sudden rush on with loads of school kids on a trip to kelham and they came and apologised for the wait which was hardly a wait anyway, felt very welcome. Food itself is rather expensive compared to its peers. Ordered Eggs Benedict and it came out pretty quick- 5 mins tops and looked like a decent plate. Eggs were runny, perfectly poached. Sauce was nice, not overpowering but enough for the plate. Bread it was all perched on was super chunky and fresh, all good there. The ham though, although perfectly pleasant in its own right, was cold..... Not as in, not cooked well enough but as in, out of the fridge onto the plate. It made a stark contrast with the rest of the meal and I was a bit surprised with it....I've always thought of Eggs Benedict being made with bacon. Granted it says it's going to be ham on the menu but I'd thought it was roasted as in....warm? The point I'm clumsily grasping towards is that what I was eating felt more like a posh ham and egg sandwich than Eggs Benedict. For £7-8 I wouldn't have minded but for £13 it feels steep. To be fair to Joni, hams obviously a completely reasonable substitute and it's clearly marked on the menu but it being cold ruined it a bit for me. Overall, staff were great, place was calming and chill for a lazy morning, bit of an awkward location to get to of you don't live here, was pricey and wouldn't bother with the Eggs Benedict if I came back again but would be tempted to try something else.

Where can I start, the place is beautiful with indoor and outdoor seating but with all the beautiful plants I had to sit inside. Only had a bacon and sausage bloomer but it was divine and the other food that came out of the kitchen looked like art, you can clearly see the passion in the kitchen. Service was top notch and the music was banging. Really good vibes and I will be back. Thank you

The food was amazing so fresh and so much taste , I thought the wait was a little long but I didn’t care when it arrived as it was presented so beautifully, I had to eat it all and it was large 🥳

It depends on what you are looking for. Time of day - morning, and there was only 2 other customers. Location - wonderful. Atmosphere - wonderful Food - looked nice, however I had a version of eggs royale, and my friend had poached eggs with mushrooms. Her eggs were not runny. She was not happy. My eggs - also not runny. Service - No one came to our table to check we were happy with our food as is what tends to happen in similar places, which just made it awkward as no one wanted to kick up a fuss. We don't want the embarrassment. If we have to go to the counter to ask for new eggs, it's just awkward. Usually I'd not be too fussed, but it was all the eggs, and a lack of service to reflect the high prices we paid. I mean if I had paid less, then my expectations would have been lower. Drinks - were fine, but again overpriced for what I got. I had an oatmilk pink chocolate hot chocolate topped with freezedried raspberries. I didn't enjoy it, but perhaps that's t do with my personal preference. It was topped with a squirty cream which I hadn't realised when I ordered it, so probably my fault. The server said "I've been a bit over generous with the cream" as she smiled and walked away leaving me with a messy drink that was spilt with loads of squirty cream, not checking I was okay with this. An expensive mess. Overall for me, the quality of the food is the most important thing, alongside attention to detail to ensure the customer is getting what they expected. Would I go again? It did look nice, I'd like to know the feedback is taken seriously, as I liked sitting in there, but I want to enjoy my food and drink!

We ended up visiting the Island Café and Bar 3 times during our visit to the Kelham Island Museum - twice for tea and coffee and once for lunch. It was really nice to be able to book the table for lunch in advance as we wanted to make the most of our time at the museum. The service and food were great on all 3 occasions, with the selection of cakes being particularly good. Highly recommended!

The Island Café is excellent. We've eaten here a few times and always enjoyed the food and the service. The staff are great and always make a fuss of Reggie (they're dog friendly!). We like it here so much that we had our wedding evening party here a year ago and the staff were excellent again. My only negative comment would be that it is a little bit on the more expensive side. On our last visit it cost £30 for 2 breakfast dishes (eggs benedict with extra bacon, mushroom benedict) and 2 black coffees. But the food is worth it in my opinion and I recommend that you give the Island Café a try.

We had sandwiches which were made with thick white freshly made bread. However the fillings were disappointing, my wife had cheese and tomato, which had a very small amount of grated cheese. No little bowl of chutney either. Mine was ham and mustard, ham was freshly carved with stringy bits left in but loads of grain mustard added. It looked impressive on arrival but was an awful lot of bread for your money. Tea was nice.

Came here twice in one day as I stopped for coffee and cake before visiting the Museum with my elderly mum. The coffee was very smooth, and the cinnamon bun loaf was light and fluffy. Noted that the menu sounded great so decided to come back later after seeing a bit more of the Kelham Island area. I had the Superfood salad, just delicious with avocado, pomegranate seeds and hummus, my mum had the Chicken Caesar salad which she said was very tasty, and a portion of chunky chips with salt flakes between us, just lovely. This place is also licensed so we had a beer and a wine, of which there was a good selection. Staff are so helpful and friendly. The interior is in keeping with the industrial setting, bare brick and fairy lights, but very comfy seats. Would love to come back but as I live in the far north of Scotland it won't be for a while sadly!

Appearances are very important here, and in many ways it’s beautiful. But things to work on are that the brunch special wouldn’t allow me to swap a cup of coffee for a cup of tea… not a major ask but apparently it’s not possible. The cappuccino I asked for was really just a coffee with milk, no foam at all and was served just warm. Service was a bit slow and forgetful but it’s an early Saturday morning, nobody is in a rush so can’t complain. The food was good but the bacon on the pancakes was very soft, only just cooked which for streaky bacon is a bit odd (though the bacon was clearly good quality) the eggs Benedict were good, I’m not convinced it’s actually sourdough toast but it was good. Overall it looked a lot better than it actually was, but it is beautiful. The cocktails were delicious! We waited a long time for them but once they arrived (halfway through our meal) they were thoroughly enjoyed.

A wonderful brunch at one of our faves , island. This cafe is located at kelham island museum and is the sister cafe to @themillownersarms and @gaardcoffee . It serves up lovely brunches and lunches in a lovley chilled environment. I chose eggs Benedict which was absolutely delicious , perfect eggs , good quality tasty ham, a few chunks of roasted sweet potato, and a delicious hollandaise sauce with a drizzle of what I think was a Garlicy pesto that really lifted the dish. My partner opted for a classic bacon butty which he says was spot on. We were super hungry so also opted for a side of hash browns each. These were really chunky crispy and delicious. We will be back ! Thanks Island.
