Good pub food by the fire with a wonderful view

If you want to stay in a charming pub in a fabulous location with outstanding staff, great hospitality, delicious food, superb wine fabulous views and lovely comfortable rooms the Cow And Calf at Ilkley is for you, just spent 3 nights here, our 3rd visit since Christmas and certainly won't be our last, can't praise this wonderful place enough!

Our stay was amazing ! My fiancée commented that the cow and calf was easily the best hotel/ pub she had stayed in. The staff were attentive and really kind and friendly. The managers was fantastic and always acknowledged us in passing . You should pay yourself on the back for the food that your chef produces, it is amazing !! The rooms are all clean and fresh too. We will be returning very soon Thank you

This was our third visit. This time to celebrate our birthdays on 18 & 19 January. We booked dinner on both evenings. The room was lovely, spotlessly clean, lovely bathroom with large shower, comfy bed with good quality linen. Excellent lighting and USB sockets appreciated. We suggest somewhere to put folding clothes, the shelves below the hanging rail are rather narrow. The bar is beautifully decorated and furnished with a log fire. Food was top notch. The staff are all efficient and friendly. My only other suggestion, as a person with mobility issues, I really struggled on the stairs. Additional hand rails should be installed in the sections where there is only one side, Otherwise a wonderful trip, thank you.

A great experience right from checking in. I'm disabled and your friendly staff took my luggage to my room for me and one of the cleaning staff carried it down for me in the morning too. Food and atmosphere were excellent would stay here again.

Room 6 is the one to go for. Amazing view. Fantastic large room with huge bed. Really lovely and great value for money.

We had such a wonderful stay. I'd definitely stay here again. Who would want to stay in a "same-y" hotel when you can stay somewhere like this with such character. Thanks so much!

Everything was great, the staff couldn't do enough for us. We dined both nights in the restaurant and have to say, the food was very good. I couldn't fault any of the dishes. One minor criticism was breakfast. Both myself and my wife thought the food should have been warmer. The breakfast was very good though, good portion size and tasty, quality food. We will be booking again.

Highly recommend this cosy pub in the most fantastic location. Rooms are comfortable and well decorated, not the biggest but that didn’t matter at all. The food was unbelievably good and the staff couldn’t have been more friendly

The food was amazing. The staff were brilliant and the room was lovely. My only issue was that the mattress was too hard and hurt my back and little sleep. A mattress topper would solve this.

Lovely comfy room lovely spot with good food and drink

The location and the hotel facilities are excellent, but for the second time I was allocated a room (9) without a window! Just a very high skylight which is impossible to see out of unless you're 10 feet tall. I appreciate that it's an old building and there may be restrictions on what alterations can be made, but the lack of windows should be made clear at the booking stage and discounted accordingly (I paid £119). It's happened twice now- 2 different rooms- I paid extra for a double room this time to avoid this issue as I thought it would only affect the cheaper, single rooms. For this reason I won't be staying again and couldn't recommend to others. Also the shower water pressure was unacceptably low.

Stunning location, staff are friendly and the food is great and great value for money. Unfortunately the room we were allocated was in the attic so no wonderful far reaching views for us, just the sound of the halyard frapping the flagpole which did not make for a good nights' sleep. That's not to say that we won't return, we'll just make sure we request a room with a view. On the night of our stay we were too exhausted to request an alternative room. And PLEASE if you do venture on to the magnificent Cow & Calf rocks and surrounding land, take your litter home, it was sad to see so much of it. Or take a carrier bag and remove some of the rubbish if you can. I wish I'd taken one on the day.

Super location Lovely breakfast

We stayed here with my parents for a night and it was a great find. Location and views are outstanding. The staff/food/rooms/hotel are all exceptional and I would highly recommend it.

Exceptional service all round. Had an issue with no heating in our room but this was dealt with in an exemplary manner by the duty manager so all credit to him.

Used to stay here very often in the past - was always warm and welcoming. A bit disappointed on this occasion i'm afraid. Staff were ok, beer and food were good but the bar area was very cold and not welcoming at all.... there are open fires but these were not properly stoked and the radiators were struggling to produce any heat at all. I don't usually feel the cold but this was pretty miserable really....

Single room was fine for my one night stay, evening meal was excellent (Venison pie 👍) all good. Didn't have breakfast (a bit pricey at £21.50). Staff attentive pleasant so nice all round stay.

Start to finish loved it all lunch soup was lovely. Then to our Amazing room spotless lovely Decor. And views what more could we ask for.Then evening meal fantastic food.oh and to finish off Breakfast all fantastic .We didn't want to leave .We will be back thank you to you All

We are immensely grateful to James and the entire team for their exceptional service and support throughout our stay. Despite encountering a room leak during inclement weather, James efficiently addressed the issue by promptly providing a room change and compensation. His sincere, professional, and expedient handling of the situation transformed what could have been a setback into a humorous anecdote, enhancing rather than diminishing our minibreak experience. Even amidst a bustling New Year's crowd, the bar never had a queue, and the restaurant service was swift without dramatic waits for food. The establishment operates like a well-oiled machine, with staff demonstrating mutual respect and consideration for both each other and the patrons. Our departure left us feeling more rejuvenated than we have in years, having discovered a place that treats us as genuine guests. It won't be long before we return for another memorable visit.

Staff lovely and friendly. Beautiful building and decor, especially the dining room with the fantastic views and lovely open fire (great to come down to in the morning). Our pancake bacon and maple syrup breakfast was delicious! Great parking. Room 1 was a little small and it would have been nice to have 2 easy chairs and a side table to watch the lovely large tv. I think the room probably couldn’t accommodate this though so more suitable for the single traveler or people who don’t mind laying on the bed to watch tv etc. Otherwise this was a beautifully decorated and super clean and warm room. Good number of sockets and USBs. Great lighting options. Good to have a number of large mirrors, especially as we were dressing for a wedding. Bed was on the hard side but we liked that. Lovely soft pillows and good housekeeping.

Ollie booked our rooms for us and he was very helpful Charlotte and Rachel checked us in and served us. We absolutely loved it there The service was very professional, friendly and genuine. We had a fantastic stay.

Great staff, room clean and tasteful design, only downside was the pillows were lumpy and bed very hard .

The accommodation was a good standard for the price. The service in both the restaurant and bar was very poor. It was very slow, but also the waitress did not write down our order and the wrong main course was delivered and she forgot to take our dessert order, dreadful

The staff were excellent, food freshly prepared and nicely presented, room very comfortable and clean. Wifi a bit unreliable. Introduce cereal at breakfast.

Lovely setting and great room. We were very impressed by the size, cleanliness and facilities in the room. Very large and well-equipped bathroom. The pub and restaurant were great. We had a delicious dinner and breakfast was very good too. Great value for money. All the staff were very pleasant and helpful.
