Absolutely unreal. We have been coming here for a few years now and it never disappoints. I literally crave the food here . Make sure you eat outside the restaurant in the summer and watch the sun go down over the sea .

Lovely Indian at the side of a pub. Friendly owners, accommodated our family and small dog. Beautiful setting for dinner. Recommend the chicken korai absolutely delicious, complements to the chef

Great fish dish at Raj Indian Ocean, probably the best selection of Indian fish dishes in Essex. Lovely setting by the Blackwater River with The Stone Inn next door.

Came here as we were staying nearby for a sailing event. The food was absolutely fantastic and really authentic. Meat cooked perfectly, really tender and the flavours in the sauces and spices had so much depth to them. The hosts were super friendly and made us feel very welcome. Would definitely come again

I cannot recommend a visit here highly enough. Located on the sea wall, although too wintery still to eat out. The service is great. If he makes a recommendation, take it. He's really encouraged us to try new dishes based on what we like. My tikka massala upgrade was to a tikka dhansak.it was amazing. Food is fresh and hot. No bright colours. The chicken is very tender. The restaurant is joint to the pub, which is where you order your drinks. If you've not been, give it a try. It's our favourite indian food experience in the area and he's been there 15 years doing it, which says alot.

This is a regular spot for my husband and I. We live near St Lawrence and this is the only Indian/Bengali place we will eat at. Traditional and authentic meals. The biryani is amazing. Meat is so tender. They clearly dont use cheap cuts of meat. The chef is very good. You won’t be disappointed. There’s a reason why you see other great reviews for this place.

This is a great spot for both a casual dining experience as well as a party ie large crowds. We come here often for dinner or lunch. Lots of options on the menu for all tastes. Chef is flexible in adding more chilli if needed or making a dish less spicy Options for korma, madras and bhuna - all the favourites A nice bar attached to the place offering lots of drinks Fresh poppadoms with various dips Lovely view of the sea

Was staying for a long weekend nearby with the family. Ordered a big load of food for collection. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed it and we all love our Indian food. Best of all, the owner personally assisted me back to the house with the food. That's what I call service!

No longer the Indian Ocean. It is now brilliant British restaurant and pub (note, I've got nothing against Indian food) named 'The St Lawrence Inn or The Barge Restaurant'. This establishment has just been taken over. The local area was lacking in an establishment like this and now it has one. It has been decorated and refurbished very tastefully. The menu is very good and prices very competitive. Portion sizes are also very very good. We had such a very good meal we immediately booked up for next week.

Takeaway this time - Chicken Tikka Jalrezi (hot, fresh and spicy with big proper chunks of breast meat properly marinated and crunchy green chillies), Lamb Sag (tender, succulent and fragrant lamb and plenty of spinach), Tarka Dahl (runny and loads of roasted garlic), Perswari Naan (hot and sweet), pilau rice (hot and fresh). 10/10 good value too.

My partner and i have a caravan on Steeple Bay and was recommended the Indian Ocean by our friends who stay on Watersdie camp site. This was about 4-5 years ago and we go there to eat everytime we are down. Raj and his staff are always so friendly and often recomend us dishes to try and or make new ones for us to test. My partner fishes and when he returns for drinks with friends in there for evening, Raj often cooks up his catches for us all to eat. The food is great and he prices also. Lovely, quiet friendly, local bar and i recommend al to try.

We ordered a takeaway delivery from The Indian Ocean. The menu is extensive with lots of unusual items we hadn't seen before. Also lots of fish dishes which many restaurants don't offer. The food was really tasty. Chicken Tikka Massala was just as I like it - rich and creamy. We also tried the King Prawn Nargaci Naga which is described as 'extremely hot'! ( it didn't disappoint!) The Gobi Paneer - cauliflower with herbs and cheese was a wonderful indulgence. Along with sides, poppadoms, rice, bread etc this all came to £33 inc delivery. Well worth it for a Saturday evening with no cooking! Having read the other reviews we will definitely go and visit the restaurant next time.

I fail to see how any reviewer can possibly describe this restaurant as bland - food was very tasty from the Cauliflower Maneer and Dupiaza to the Bahjis and the Naam! Nect time it's got to be one of the seafood special curries... highly commended. Just one point there is the restaurant and the PUB next door - food can be served in either. There is a great selection of drinks and IF you have a pooch you can even take them in the pub! Just watch they do not steal what's on your plate!

We were staying at a local caravan park and decided to have an Indian take away. I ordered a chicken tikka massala and some side dishes. The strongest taste in the Massala was coconut. Not spicy at all and the side dishes were the same. I have read other good reviews and can only think the chef had a day off. Expensive and a waste of money and calories.

Travelling around the UK and Europe often means eating in restaraunts with no fore knowledge of what to expect. The Indian Ocean was an example of needing to get food close to our accommodation. The Restaraunt is attached to a village Inn and I expected English/Indian cuisine. How wrong I was. This was, I think, one of the best Rogan Joshes' I have eaten; the meat was oh so tender (in the way that only good meat can be) the sauce was perfectly spiced. The rice and Bindi were spot on as was the pistaccio Kulfi to finish. The atmosphere is very pleasant with plenty of room between tables, so no problem moving around with buggies or wheelchairs. The service was well carried out, attentive but not overbearing. you are in the Maldon/St Lawrence Bay area of Essex give the Indian Ocean a visit you will not be disappointed.

We popped in here on the 15th October. The gentleman showed us to a table and engaged in chatting to my 6-year-old daughter, which she appreciated. Food arrived promptly. Very good service. The food was perfect. The gentleman was very chatty and both my wife and daughter really enjoyed being there. Not noisy and overall a very nice evening. Getting back to the food. All of us really liked it. I ordered a vindaloo, which was perfect. Not so hot it burned me; just right. The gentleman was very accommodating, and we have decided this is our new Indian restaurant to go to. 3 courses for 3 people and non-alcoholic drinks came in at under £100. Superb. David Myers

I have only had a couple of takeaways, but when I collect the restaurant always have a very nice atmosphere and the staff are friendly. From a food perspective for me the portions are not very generous, and there is not as much meat in the portion as other local Indian restaurants. So if they sorted that I would maybe buy from there more.

Some of the tastiest dishes I have ever tasted. The chicken melted in your mouth, I didn't need a knife to cut it. The blend of spices and coconut milk was outstanding, especially in the saag paneer, which as a side added so much to the meal. The service was good and everyone was very friendly, and lovely surroundings. It was well worth the walk to the very end of the many restaurants, just wish we lived nearer.
