Indian Kitchen in Portsmouth

We recently had a fantastic dining experience with Indian Kitchen. As always, I like to judge a restaurant or takeaway by its Tarka Dal, and I’m happy to say theirs was exceptional—hot, spicy, and, most importantly, sugar-free, just as I expected. The staff were incredibly friendly and welcoming, making the experience even better. The only area for improvement would be the naan, which was too thick and slightly undercooked. Aside from that, everything was perfect. During our two-night stay in the area, we enjoyed the Tarka Dal so much that we ordered it both nights, pairing it with boiled rice. If you're looking for delicious vegetarian food, I highly recommend Indian Kitchen!

We find there is no consistency in quality. Very disappointing meal last evening.

It was very nice and food was delicious .

Used this service for the last two years and unfortunately it’s deteriorated a bit in that time. The meat doesn’t seem to be as good quality as previously and the portions are getting smaller while the cost is going the other way. Delivery is as good as can be expected when you’re that busy. Time to look at an alternative I think.

Love this place, I've tasted curry's all over UK and most in the county and I rate this with a 10, I always rate a curry house by their Madras or Vindaloo and I must say the flavours and spices in these particular dishes are very good, even better with a nice Indian beer!, the staff are pleasant and efficient, the Chef knows how to cook a great curry! Enjoy.

Delivery awful. Ordered 2 pappadums, and got 2, both stale. £1 for a scrawny bag of onion chutney. Containers weren't full. I know everyone is feeling the financial squeeze, but ripping punters off with poor portions is not the answer. Shan't be going back!

Was so disappointed my chicken was so salty I couldn’t eat it my husbands order was so hot and the wrong dish my salad was brown and limp in a little bag !! Will never order again or recommend!!

Tried a lot of Indian takeaways in Portsmouth Including the one who states he is 'the best in the south' all which have been disappointing in one way or another. However, I think we have finally found somewhere that is the best in this area. Everything we ordered was tasty, hot (in temperature), tender meat and overall enjoyable. Will definitely be ordering again! EDIT: Have ordered twice since this date. Second time was luke warm (as if we were the last delivery) we are only a 3 mins drive away. Last order we had we specifically asked for the food to be hot on delivery (like our first order was). On delivery we received a call from the driver to say he was lost and what was my postcode which he needed to write down. 10 minutes later he arrived with our order...cold. After asking him to feel how cold our food was he replied with 'I don't care' and walked back to his car (without taking payment). 11pm I received a text from them to say they will send a different driver to collect payment tomorrow. This ended with the owner coming at half 11pm to collect what we agreed to pay which was half. Giving the attitude of his driver and temperature of food we wasn't expecting a free meal and felt half was more than fair. Won't be returning.

Sadly tonight were let down. Well planned evening celebration, booked in advance for family party but two dishes short. Truculent response to phone call advising ( needs customer support training) Three free dishes and delivered on time, cannot fault for that but left three people eating well after others and not what was planned so well for. We won't use again as unreliable....very disappointed as hosts were very happy with previous service.....

Ordered a large number of dishes for a family celebration this evening. Despite it arriving on time, and there being three dishes free, two of the main dishes were missing, which meant three people couldn't have their dinner. When the call was made to report this, the attitude of the person that took the call was poor, arguing the toss, despite not receiving £15 worth of food. We insisted they were delivered asap, but by that time everyone else had finished theirs leaving three people to eat their half cold, half hot dinner. A very disappointing experience and one we will not be repeating.

Consistently a very good curry with open clean kitchen so cooked freshly in front of you unlike its local opposition, the Ghandi in Wayte Street, where the meat/chicken is clearly pre boiled as there is no texture left to it and the curry tastes like weak gravy with a bit of curry powder and pepper

We thought we'd try something different, Wow did we get something different. Poppadoms mashed into pieces, chapatti was like a hockey puck. Curries were average, although we ordered a Goan curry and got a dish very similar to a Korma. An experience not to be repeated.

First time we’ve had a curry from here and will definitely use again, absolutely delicious and probably the best we’ve ever had, delivery, to Portchester, was also on time and gentleman who delivered was extremely polite.

This is actually a very decent curry. Tindaloo had a rich bhuna flavour, just the way I like it. Bursting with flavour. I could taste the richness of the fried spices which, in my experience, is rare for a takeaway. Compliments to the chef.

Always have a curry from here once a week always good and delivers

Tasty and reasonably priced but very little meat in the curries as a result. Garlic naan was disappointing (I'm in love with the stuff usually). Spent over £20 so we had a free sag aloo and salad thrown in which was lovely. Delivery was half an hour more than forecast which isn't great, especially when you order at 5.20 which should be before peak.

Good quality. Good prices. Available on Justeat but cheaper to go direct. Free side over £20.

Absolutely awesome Indian food. And some of the best Indian food I have ever eaten (including lots of trips to India). The chefs here are literally magicians with food. I have worked my way through most of the menu now and although I would say that all of the food is great, the chefs specialities are out of this world.

First and last time I will order food from this place it turned up on time but was almost cold salad looked like they pulled it out the bin tandoori chicken main meal looked disgusting and was the worst tasting tandoori ever I thought it was supposed to be red in colour the whole lot at £23 went in the bin never ordering from there again, Saturday night dinner ruined thanks Indian Kitchen

This curry is great. Lamb madras and pilau rice is my staple and I've yet to be disappointed. Lots of meat, and it's great getting the free pompadom and salad with it. Great food👍

A fast, tasty and (above all) satisfying feast. The dishes we chose were rich and varied. The naans were soft with beautifully crisped edges. The Onion Bhaji's, reassuringly indulgent. The lamb tender, and the chicken moist. Perhaps most pleasing was that the chefs hadn't overloaded on salt, so we were not left with a food-hangover the next day, which we've experienced with several local take-away vendors recently. Will return!
