Friday evening 2nd December I ordered a takeaway from Indian Empress Coventry , my delivery window was 19.05 -19.25 the delivery arrived at 20.15 . The food was cold , the chips like cardboard ( obviously left standing for a while ) and rice also cold . The order was incomplete as the sweet I had ordered was not in the delivery . Suffice it to say I will not be giving them any more of my custom , a truly awful experience .

After ordering previously, we ordered again at 18,25pm Saturday evening the expected time for delivery originally was 25mins which I thought was quick given it being the weekend roll on a hour and I rang to ask where my fairly simple order was to be told its gone out with the driver , and should be with me 10mintues roll on another 25 mins I rang to ask them to cancel my order as it still hadn't arrived they assured me the driver was minutes away so after 1hour 45mins we received are order , frankly it was so underwhelming the korma sauce tasted bland the chicken tika naan has not much chicken in it ,no mint sauce with any of order the till fish was ok but by this time my partner wasn't that bothered about eating , I think id happily order from other places before trying this one again any time soon and the staff on the phone weren't very helpful id rather a true time given than lied too

Meh.....kinda sums up what we had. I do appreciate that they are extremely busy due to the current corona dramas. So we were glad of anywhere that supplied us with a takeaway after 2 weeks. That being said and understood. The collection time was a little over, which was still a better option than the proposed 1-1.5 hr delivery. Food was hot when done, obviously fresh af. The onion bhajis were over fried, tasting a bit burnt. The lamb tikka was tough & gristly. My chicken pieces were so small, I nearly missed them. The curry sauces were ok, nothing special, just ok. The naans, though we ate them, again nothing special. A little bland maybe for a keema. Good, not great.

So after a shocker a few months back..... I decided after reading reviews things could be better. Ordered and waiting be for 2 hours. Rang and couldn't get through on constant redial. Food was yellow/orange colour telling me that there was way too much turmeric powder(Haldi), too much of this makes food taste bitter & so it was. This place seems to be under new management, as previously it was a South Indian takeaway and the menu has now completely changed:Ordered a takeaway from here, for collection, firstly disappointed that they were unable to take payment by debit card, resulting in having to walk to the nearest cash point.I had ordered a Shahi Paneer, which although quotes contains ground nuts, mine did not, and was not at all spicy. At £4.50 I felt that it was a little over priced as the container size was quite small. The Nans on the other hand were fresh, and off a good size.Overall the food was tasty, even though I feel it was a little overpriced. If they increased their portion sizes or slightly reduced their prices this would have been a perfect 5.

Anyway, the food for the party was really great and all our guests were impressed. The added bonus was seeing Uma cook the food in our own kitchen - it was pure theatre and the smells were amazing! If you want more authentic indian food you will have to go to leicester restaurants like shivalli, kayal etc where the clientele is more indian so they have to ensure the food is more authentic.

Firstly service is good here, and food preparation is clean. However prices are almost the same as eating out in a restaurant and quantity/portions are below average. Also the food is not authentic as the same tomato curry base is being used in the various indian dishes. The bhaturas are not proper bhaturas but like like pooris. The south indian currys which should be based on coconut base/milk and tamarind/sour, taste more like your average north indian mains with the tomato curry dominating. Having travelled myself in South India, this is nowhere near the taste and look of the food there. If you are used to eating indian food made at home, then you will know the food here is not authentic. However if you do not make indian food at home and you just want a curry with a beer or wine then its fine.

I have visited this takeaway many times with my friends. And most of these visits have been times when we are completely bored with our office cafe! In addition to being a takeaway, there is a small stand-in eating area as well. Having eaten at many Indian takeaways and restaurants all over the UK, I must say, the Indian empress comes closest to the most authentic Indian taste there is - for example, the naan you get here is very unique and what you would get in India. And there are dishes you wont usually find in other Indian restaurants in the UK.Then there is the 'know your customer' factor. The owner Umashankar is a great guy who goes to great lengths to customize dishes for you!Overall, a great takeaway and a must-visit if you are thinking Indian food.

We decided to have a Friday night in and order an indian takeaway. We chose Indian Empress due to it's proximity to where we live in Coventry, for it's very positive reviews and the fact that they deliver. We ordered 2 main dishes, rice and 2 naan, one plain and one stuffed with garlic. After giving our order over the phone, the delivery time was estimated between 45-60 minutes. A £3 charge was added to the bill to cover delivery. The food turned up after an hour and a quarter and was not very warm (in either sense). The naan bread was much smaller than we had been used to from other indian restaurants/takeaways and we couldn't tell which one was supposed to be the stuffed one as both were very thin and neither looked stuffed with anything. The dishes themselves were tasty but not spicy enough, in my opinion. On the whole I don't get what all the fuss is about, I have had better food from other local indian takeaways, so I give this place 3*

We fancied an Indian takeaway for a special occasion but had't had one in ages and Haji's had already closed down! Tried this just-takeaway place on the strength of the reviews and they are all pretty much true. I myself didn't much like one or two of the dishes but they were popular with the others. The staff really are friendly, will advise you on all the options and cook each dish to own variation. I would put this at the top of the list for my next Indian takeaway. Personally, i thought the definition of 'hot' was slightly underdone in order to suit local tastes, but I'll remember that next time and adjust accordingly. It's possible to get better but only by going seriously upmarket (Bombay Brasserie on Gloucester Road?), so all-in-all this place thoroughly deserves its 5*.

Strictly speaking its a take-away place but its got a bit of place to eat. I always prefer to do this since you can see your food being cooked from the very basic ingredients. If you really understand and want to appreciate good Indian food, this is THE PLACE to go! Its not your everyday nonsensical "curry-house" with the crappy quartet of Tikka Masala, Bhuna, Jalfrezi and Korma with any meat! So dont be overly shocked when the chef, Uma, says "We dont do Chicken Tikka Masala" Instead, ask him to make something to your taste. He's very willing to cater to your exact tasteThis place is akin to that friendly English bakery / patisserie where they serve the loveliest home made cottage-pies. Just, seriously - don't go anywhere else!!! Don't even consider anywhere else!! I am not even a big fan of Indian food. Mainly because I'm used to the thick, generic gravy style. Sloppy, cheap etc. This place could not be further from all those Indian takeaways you've experienced. Authentic, incredible, taste bud exploding food! His dishes are complex, full of amazing fresh spices that just make your mouth come alive. The owner is so passionate about his food, its hard to believe its just a takeaway. He doesn't use ghee in his food, and uses minimal oil, so all the food is light, spicy, fragrant and delicious. We are local, and tried it a few months ago. Although we don't go often, this guy remembers us and better than that, can actually remember what you ordered 3- 4 weeks ago! If you go in and ask him to recommend, he will talk you through the spices, complementary dishes and the provenance of the food and ingredients. Last visit, he let us taste various sauces - just to make sure we would like what we ordered. The little starters are unusual and authentic. As I said, Im not a curry fanatic, but would happily work my way through this menu, just for the sheer delight of trying all the unusual and great dishes! Seriously, I don't think you've tried a real curry until you've tried this. Its worth travelling to..so if you're not local, make the journey. Its that good. And the owner is such a gentleman and genuinely nice guy who cares about what he's cooking. He's not prepared to compromise for profit, which in this day and age, is pretty rare. Treat yourself!!!! Prepare to wait a good 45 mins if you order delivery. I'd recommend going in. He's just great to talk to about the food. The care and passion shows. Could not recommend this little place enough! Good luck to them. I seriously hope they're around for a long time.
