India Garden in Hertsmere

One word: Divine! Went this past Friday night March 29th for a late dinner with my husband and his youngest brother. Food was FABULOUS as always when we visit back home Bushey. Service was excellent. Hospitality and atmosphere welcoming in this lovely clean restaurant with fantastic Indian fare. Excellent value for money with very reasonable costs. Looking forward to our next trip already!

The quality of the food was very poor, and it was not an Indian restaurant. We ordered almost 6-7 different dishes and all of them had the same gravy and the quality of the chicken and lamb was very poor. The following day, I experienced stomach problems. I will not return to this restaurant next time, and I will not place an online order for food.

Very tasty food for very good prices

Ordered a few weeks ago. Food took nearly two hours to deliver and when it arrived they had it wrong and it was cold. I rang to say one of our dishes was wrong and they told me that what I ordered had ran out, so decided to send me something different. Didn't call me to let me know or allow me to pick something different. Just sent something random. Didn't give a refund and the dish that was sent I did not want or like. Unbelievable just sending random food and charging full price. Customer service was basically, tough luck. Really couldn't care less. Will never use this Indian restaurant again. Last order they charged for sauces but didn't send. Really gone down hill. It was always our go to Indian restaurant but it's got really bad so have now found a much better one.

Really slow delivery. Over 2 hours waiting. Chased twice on phone. We have been using this place for years so very disappointed.

Great old fashion Indian restaurant. Good food, drink & service.

Don't order from here! We ordered food around 7:20pm and was told it would be here by 8pm. over 40 minutes later nothing had come so we rang the restaurant and were unhelpful and hung up on me. We rang back again around 15 minutes later and asked for the manger they then put the phone down on us. We are still trying to ring back now and no one is answering! This is absolutely atrocious behaviour and i will not be ordering from here ever again. Do better!

Ordered a delivery but it took over 2 hours to arrive despite numerous phone calls. Once it finally arrived we ended up having to send it back as it was so late and clearly stone cold. Not good enough!

I ordered tikka masala, prepared with barbecued chicken, lamb, fish, and king prawns, but I got only lamb masala, an entirely different from the description. Completely disappointed with the order.

Been here many times but this last visit was not too good. Food was tasty as usual but service not so great and lack of some food and drink was very disappointing. No spicy popadoms, ok not the end of the world but how do you not have any! No bottled beer left!! And only one draft beer left, not the one we like! With regard to the food, very tiny portion of rice, one tiny bit of pepper in one dish, very sad looking green salad, had to send back to have toms and cue added, which I’m sure he ran out to shop to get! Slightly dry potato dish. No warm towel offered at end had to ask and no chocolate with bill either. Just not the usual service etc that you expect from India Garden. Shame it spoilt my one evening off that I had this week. Will think again before returning.

Popped in to collect food. Didn't sit down. Enjoyed the food.

Ordered just after opening at 17.15 was told order would be here in 45 minutes to one hour maximum (we live 10 mins away) the time is now 18.45 still no sign of food … phoned restaurant at 18.25 told food was picked up 20 minutes ago and was on its way…. It better not be cold!!… updater 19.00 so food just arrived … cold, a film of grease on the CTM, no mint sauce or salad with the onion Bhajis … I’ve used India garden for about 50 years but no more!! Very sad that it’s gone down hill so much

Booked for my brothers 70th. Spent a fortune. Needless to say,, the worst curry I’ve ever had. The staff couldn’t cope, although they were given plenty of notice. Over the top priced drinks, and when the little chef popped his head out of the kitchen I certainly became worried, unshaven, long beard, dirty clothing. Never again. Avoid at all costs. They even have the front to pour you a glass of coke out of a bottle, in front of you and then charge the best part of £3. Absolute liberty takers, along with greasy, rushed food. The starters were all uniform and tasteless which tells me the bhajis are pre bought, probably Iceland. The starter was probably the most blandest thing ever to pass my lips, so I tried to smother it in what little sauce was put out with the popadoms and measly unappetising chutneys. Never again.

Ordered food on the restaurant website which took one hour and 50 minutes to be delivered. Phoned twice and was told ten to fifteen minutes both times. I hadn’t used India Garden for a while and won’t be using them again.

Ordered at 7pm, told it would take 45 minutes, rung them after an hour, told it'll be 10 minutes, driver on the way, 25 minutes later, still not here, I am going out, and this has ruined my evening. Just be honest and say it's going to take over an hour if you're having a busy evening. Fuming.

Disappointing meal at this restaurant last night. The food was indeed tasty but many of the dishes ordered came up cold. We sent several back and they were reheated. No apology was made. We have used this restaurant before and enjoyed it. It was a shame as they seemed there may have been a problem as two other tables also complained. Probably won't use this restaurant again. They did agree to take the rice off the bill but I feel this was too little too late.

Whenever you're in London, you have to come here! Even if it's some distance to travel, it's worth the trip! Excellent food and service!

I’ve used this curry house for a few years, I like it but if you reserve a table they never save it and keep putting you back - I’ve just given up at 9pm on a 7.30 booking. This is a regular occurrence they’re just money hungry people who take the first person through the door irrelevant of someone who has booked. Someone please sort a better curry house out

I am amazed by some of the earlier poor reviews as our experience from beginning to end was terrific. This was our first ever visit here and we were warmly greeted by Sharif the Owner who has been in this location for 40 years. How did we never find it before. Very modern decor and the table linens were spotless. I love Chicken Tikka prepared very hot by way of spices which most Tandoori restaurants cannot achieve other than by making a sauce. Here it was prepared to perfection. Wonderful. My wife had chicken tikka Bhutanese another great success. Our friends also really enjoyed their choices. This is our new go to Indian!!!

Take away from here. What a let down. The food in this place is of such a poor standard and the bland flavour left me puzzled. Had a few spoonfulls of the food and binned it. They need to get shot of this chef, he is terrible. Their paneer is rubbery, the garlic mushrooms look like they'd come from a tin. The curry was so bland, I was convinced it was the same sauces for everything and samosas were tiny and looked like they'd come from frozen.This was the worse takeaway I have ever had. How this one has a BCA award in 2021 is anyone's guess.

My family have used this restaurant for years. And myself for many years. Always usually lovely food. Tonight I ordered and food come 2 hours later after being told 50 -60 mins. Being thobbed off on the phone Being told drivers left food be 10 mins two times. Being told 2 minutes on the phone then Being cut off. Payed by card when ordered & food come, family ate then all had dodgy stomaches after. Very disappointed. Won't be ordering in a hurry.

Food was like warm and not very tasty.

I have been going regularly to this restaurant for about 10 years and always enjoyed the food. One of the waiters even remembers my name! They used to have a special banquet night offer on Weds and Thurs but this was suspended from the start of the covid problems. I was so pleased on visiting their website to see the offer had been reinstated and soon made a booking for dinner. On arrival the waiter said that there were no offers available at all. The offer was shown on the menu but crossed out with a felt tip. I pointed out that it was shown on the website but he just shook his head. I would usually walk out in a situation like this but decided to stay but not order any drinks. The food and service were both good as usual. But there is a further annoying change too. They now add a 10% service charge to the bill but this is not mentioned on the website or the menu or anywhere else inside the restaurant. So a very disappointing visit I am sorry to say. I am now likely to be looking for another Indian restaurant in the area.

Food and service was good but spoiled by an argument at the end when we wanted to pay by Amex and they said they didn’t take it. Not true - it’s on their website that they do and the restaurant is listed on the Amex website. They were moaning that Amex takes 2 weeks to pay them. Not our problem- but it will be theirs because we won’t go there again.

Lovely staff, tasty food, good value

The worst takeaway I've ever had the misfortune of eating. The chicken madras was dry and chewy, tasted like the chicken was made the day before. It was almost inedible and I wouldnt have given it to the cat. Would take a tesco ready meal over this any day.

For anyone after great food and an amazing vibe, look no further than India Garden! The food we ordered tasted so fresh and came out so fast. Presentation of food is definitely social media worthy!! The relaxed ambience was amazing and the music wasn’t too loud nor too quiet. The covid safety measures were really good and everyone was being cautious which made me and my family feel very safe. Will definitely be recommending to others and 100% will visit again!

I visited India Garden with 4 of my friends today and we can not recommend this restaurant enough! The staff are so friendly and welcoming, they made us feel very welcome instantly. Their covid rules made us feel safe as they follow the government Guidelines strictly. My friends parents are regular customers and they recommended us this restaurant and I am so happy with it! The food was mouthwatering and definitely Instagram worthy!

I attended this restaurant at the end of September with a group of girl friends. Immediately on entering the restaurant we found the staff to linger over us, looking us up and down. They were very rude and blunt no friendliness at all. One of my friends was wearing a slightly lower backed top and found one waiter in particular kept brushing his hands across her skin and when she challenged this she was met by shouting and other waiters joined the table to shout what I can only imagine were insults in another language. They were extremely aggressive and intimidating to the point we got up and left shortly after this having only had our starters - which took 50 minutes to arrive to our table. The food itself was abysmal and resembled a frozen party selection from the local supermarket. A taxi collected us from the car park behind the restaurant and there was a group of waiters outside the back door smoking, joined by the waiter whom had been touching my friend inappropriately. They were smirking and laughing whilst watching our every step to the car and began shouting things to us as we drove away. This is singlehandedly one of the most disgusting, scary, intimidating and down right creepy things I’ve ever experienced in any public setting. Would never ever set foot in their again and any ladies who do please be careful

Vile place rats! Poor food AVOID! Our meal was horrific, really wasn’t happy with anything then when we went to our car we have see the back of the shop, it keeps food out in the car park, they seem to be growing fruit and veg in the car park. Avoid

Normally go to another Indian restaurant but was too busy to take our reservation we came to this charming and friendly Indian restaurant nearby. Nicely spiced food served hot and efficiently was moderately priced. Will certainly return.

Very clean and covid safe food tasty for local Indian

I went into this restaurant with my white boyfriend (I am Asian) and they treated us very badly they dropped the plate of curry on the table in stead of placing it in front of us. They are a disgrace and racist nobody decent should eat here except idiots who know no better, the owners are a disgrace and discriminatory not to mention that their food was just aweful more than likely spat in it before serving us!!!

A COVID takeaway from a restaurant I have not tried before. Whilst we were collecting another customer commented that its a good "English Curry house" and to try somewhere else if you want authentic curry. Our hearts sank. When we got home, we discovered that they were right. The food was below average. The dishes (except the prawns) were all lacking in aromatic spice and flavour. All edible but just below par. Quite generous portions (except the tiny and uninspiring salads). Unlikely to go here again.

Our regular Indian takeaway that we’ve been getting for years as my family love it! Great quality, delicious takeaway, can’t fault it. Thanks for supporting the NHS workers!

We have been visiting the restaurant for over 10 years and have just had our first delivery due to coronavirus closing restaurants. The food is delicious every time, we pre ordered easily on the app and our food arrived hot and on time. So pleased to be able to support a local business and have an incredible dinner during this tough time. If you are looking for yummy Indian with fantastic staff, India Garden is worth your choice!

A delectable feast.Great to enjoy at home since we couldn't go to the restaurant.As a nurse I got a 50% discount.It's really great to be appreciated and acknowledged in this way when we are working under fierce pressure.The staff were very friendly.I would definitely recommend this Indian.It's great to have such a good quality take away in the high street.

Good to see the first restaurent I worked in 1993, still doing well,it brings back memories. It was very popular at that time and it still is.

Lat Sunday I came with my family for dinner and ordered the Chicken Jalfrezi, Lamb baltic and the Chicken Shashlick and I honestly have never had such mouth watering food before. The staff were outstanding and made us feel very welcomed. I will be coming back and I will definitely be recommending India Garden to my friends and family!

My Daughter and I went to this restaurant for my Birthday meal as we walked through the door we were made to feel special the staff were efficient and attentive to our needs and the food was exceptional all through our visit we were made to feel important even though it was a very busy restaurant

Stumbled across their Sunday lunchtime buffet offering in the high street by accident. Really good selection of items and hot, freshly prepared food. Attentive staff. Would consider coming back for a full evening meal

Been to this restaurant twice now and food is superb. Staff are friendly and its reasonable priced. If you love Indian food, give this a try. Highly recommended.

Very bad organisation......Ordered on a Saturday evening for 6 people and collection. Order was placed at 7.35pm and told would be 30 minutes. We arrived at the restaurant at 8.10pm and waited an additional 45 minutes for our order. The restaurant was very busy and very disorganised even the manager was in the kitchen cooking. When we eventually got our order (after asking how long over 6 times) and got it home, 3 of the main course dishes were missing, we got a plain naan instead of pastrami naan. One of the chicken dishes were not what we ordered. Called to complain and they delivered the remainder after 15 minutes. We spent over £70 and this was a terrible meal experience. One customer who was waiting for a take out just gave up and said he would go and get a macdonalds instead. I work in catering and the bottom line is that this place cannot manage z busy period and it is the paying customers who suffer. They only concentrate on the customers in the restaurant who are st the tables. The manager in the kitchen did not even have the curtiously to pop out and speak or apologise to us, just the waiters, who were so busy it was embarrassing. Such a shame.......

We use India Garden as a take away and to visit the restaurant it’s the best Indian restaurant around , we drive over to collect our food , last night we ordered 4 meals , most of our food was lovely except the Chicken Tikka Masala , it was bland had no flavour and very disappointing from our favourite restaurant. We will still return but hopefully next time it will be back to it’s usual standard.

hi all had my first meal here did not research anywhere was passing by and had to eat.I hadstarter mains and a rice vegetable samosa was not badmains spinich bhaji and daal with a piping hot butter naan was greatchocolates after meal called after curry mints good.great value for money with a glass of house ref and water my bill came to £14.00 clean food good taste great value for money.

I come here most Sundays with my family. The customer service is outstanding and the staff are very friendly and welcoming. The food arrives hot. I have been to a few other restaurants around Bushey, and this one by far, is the best and my family and I look forward to ending our week with the amazing food delivered by them.

Have been a customer here for many years but since the relaunch there seems to be real quality issues. The samosa starter is an insult. It was more frozen Iceland food than restaurant food. The lamb passander has changed dramatically and now consists of tough pieces of poor quality meat rather than the melt in the mouth meat you used to be served. I’m sorry India garden but I will not be eating with you again. You seem to have dropped the complementary drink at the end of a meal too.

Nothing to like about the restaurant. As soon as we walked in and sat down we did not feel welcomed. Took a long time for someone to take our order and then give a jug of water while we waited for food. The food was average with small portions. Not many vegetarian options. Overall pretty disappointing experience!

This is definitely not an Indian run resturant. Food is below average with too much sugar and spice in curries. Paratha is nothin like Paratha and naan is a big piece of uncooked floury dough. Ordered a banquet meal for £11.95 from the menu at 10:30 pm and the waiter said sorry it’s finished. You have to order from the al la carte menu. Although the banquet meal is a 3 course selection meal from starters, mains and desert how can it finish? It is a scam. Would never go there again.

I ate here on Saturday. The waiter recommended the chicken tikka rezalla, a dry sizzling dish. It was AMAZING!! So much flavour. I usually have the korai which is also delicious and full of deep flavours. Love it here.

We eat here about once a month and I have not had a bad dish. I usually stick to chicken tikka butter or chicken tikka korai. Yesterday I tried the rezalla. It's flavours were incredible. I hate bland food so this place is perfect. Be brave try a different dish.

Much better Indian restaurants locally. Drinks were warm and flat (coke bottle had been left on the side open) Food had no flavour and very bland. Mentioned this to the staff and all I got was an Ok . Found the staff to be quite rude and inconsiderate. Won't be going back.

Prawn starter could have lined the sole of a shoe. Difficult to identify any flavours from the main dish and the wine was like Ribena

Food usually outstanding but takeaway service is oftern slow, even when you pick it up

I first used this restaurant as a takeaway a few years back and the food was very tasty, but presumably due to changes in the staff in the kitchen I now sadly report that the food is bland, greasy and salty. I order in the hope that it might be up to the old standards, but sadly I have now given up any hope of improvement. My Lamb Sagwala was so poorly spiced that it tasted like a dry, salty lamb stew and had no fresh zing to the flavour at all. It promised to be medium spiced with tomatoes. I could hardly taste any spice and one quarter of an uncooked tomato chucked in when the dish is put in the container is just lazy (I had a similar thing previously with a dish claiming to contain green peppers). Hopefully at some time in the future the chef will change again for the better, but until such time if I’m tempted to order a takeaway from here I must reread this review to remind me to go elsewhere.

Good food and quality restaurant

Visited this restaurant with family. The 3 stars are for the decor, the excellent service and very nice staff A lot of the food seemed to be swimming in oil, tandoori chicken very salty.

We have been using the Indian Garden for the last 12 years and have had many lovely meals in there and also delivered. The staff are pleasant and the standard of food high. The restaurant has reopened following a recent issue and is certainly back to it's best. Great to have such a lovely curry house on our doorstep!

We have been coming here on alternate weekends for a couple of months now so it's fair to say I have taken my time to make an informed comment. The food is always excellent, the staff are friendly and helpful and the prices very, very reasonable. We often have a balti special meal that comes with the balti dish of yiur choice, a naan, pilau rice and pakororas, all for under £12. Last night we had the same meal as a delivery we received the same high standard of food .

Ate here on Friday. I had a Balti Korai, with rice, naan and pakoras, all for £11. The Chicken Korai was so full of flavour and perfect heat. Maybe I picked a good dish reading the previous reviews, but I can't wait to go back.

For me this is a very nondescript local Tandoori Restaurant. It just happens a prefer a competitor up the road. It is fine, and the service is good. But I would not change my local allegiances because the food IMHO is not as good. I must say though that friends are regulars and love the place. so to summarise try it out and see what you think. The food is fine, the service is good and the prices are reasonable. It is a mid size restaurant easilt accessible on Bushey high street next to the Spar, with free parking 5 minutes away at Kemp Place. Pubs within 2 minutes (The Red Lion on high street and The Swan on Park Road), cash pioint at nearby Barclays

We had dinner here and where a bit apprehensive given its recent history. The waiter assured us all was well so we ordered our food. The restaurant wasn’t very busy as it normally is , I’m guessing customers will come back once the trust as be earned. The food was ok and the waiter offered us complimentary drinks at the end of the meal.

The worst Indian I have ever had! The food barely covered the bottom of the container. Bland, no flavour and under cooked. I will not be eating from there again. Very disappointing considering their location.
