My favorite restaurant in London. I always make a point to stop here for dinner and drinks when I’m back in town. I’ve never had a bad meal here, and I love the atmosphere. I highly recommend it!

The dishes here are pleasant but very dumbed down, lacking spice richness or heat for me. Others have reported the same, I can see. The curry sauce base reminded me of Heinz tomato soup! Good for a large group on a night out though.

We booked to visit on New Years Eve, and when trying to order drinks that were on the menu, we were then told that they actually didn't have any left or do not serve them anyway including a popular brand of beer. The tandoori mixed starter was okay, small in size for the price you pay but was probably the highlight of the meal. We ordered 3 different curries between 4 people, a lamb, chicken and prawn dish. All of which tasted exactly the same. It was like someone had cooked the meat, and decided to pour heinz tomato soup with some added cream all over. Very disappointed for spending over £50 per head

Went for school reunion. Service was initially attentive but became impatient and rude when we didn't make food decisions quickly due to talking. This really affected the meal. Food was good but not outstanding, however proved good value due to portion sizes. Will go again because of value and location but not for a special occasion.

The food was average at best. The Indian food caters for a very safe audience which meant it was lacking in flavour and authenticity. The desserts were disappointing and I think we should have gone for dessert elsewhere. We had some difficulty with the assistant manager as we told him we didn't like one of the desserts so he offered to take it back for us and give us another one. However, we were very surprised to find he had charged us for it and when we queried this the assistant manager was quite aggressive and rude. Following the intervention of the manager, who was very polite and helpful, the matter was sorted out but the experience was completely unnecessary. The location and the atmosphere is great and the food was served very quickly as well.

We visited Imli Street with a little trepidation as this was our first experience of the restaurant despite being aware of its connections to the Tamarind group. We arrived early to take advantage of the set menu. The restaurant decor is a little odd (all brickwork and rough finish) but its a perfectly pleasant place to eat. When seated we were only offered the a la carte menu. We questioned this and were first told it wasn't available on Sunday. We queried this and were told that we were too late. Again we questioned this and the manager (?) went off to speak to someone (?) and returned a short while later with the set menu list. Oddly none of the guests that followed us were offered the set menu and the restaurant does not advertise it anywhere other than the web site. Why this is the case, I don't know.Anyway we selected the set menu because it's an absolute steal despite being very restrictive. We ordered Goan Squid and Bhurani Tawa Chicken to start and belatedly some poppadoms. The poppadoms were great with fresh homemade chutneys but we instantly regretted ordering them because two enormous starters appeared almost immediately afterwards. Both were sublime, tender and succulent efforts full of flavour. The mains followed similarly swiftly. We wouldn't normally order dishes like Lamb Rogon Josh and Chicken Tikka Masala but again both were fantastic and a million miles away from your average High Street calamities. The accompaniments were similarly excellent. Two glasses of very drinkable and reasonably priced house wine later we were stuffed and happy. The total bill came to under £47 which is just crazy. We walked out with a doggy bag which served for the following days meal for one. I don't understand the restaurant's reluctance to advertise the set menu but I can't fault the food or the service.

Good buzzy ambience but could be noisy for some. Was good for us to celebrate a family birthday, and chef able to cater for one 'awkward' customer who did not like garlic! Had mentioned birthday at booking, and a cute dessert with candle for b'day boy arrived. Food was tasty and good portion size. For central London not really overpriced, but a but more than high street Tandoori, but then so was the quality and choice of food. Biriyaniwas a favourite as was the papdi chaat.

We went early on a Sunday and arrived at a near-empty restaurant. We were offered a small table and when I asked for a larger one we were told it was for four people. I pointed out that the place was empty. Not a good start. We placed the order and the food arrived quickly. It was delicious. Having finished I waited to be offered dessert. No one came. No contact was made. We were ignored. We sat there for about half an hour and then decided to get the bill. Their dessert menu looks good but I will never know. There seemed to be a lot of staff but no organisation. The guy at the door should not be front of house. The young girl is very sweet. Judging the place on food alone I would give if 5 stars.

Sadly the restaurant has gone downhill since we began going there. We have been customers at Imli for years, and feel sad that the last visit was disappointing. The food wasn't great, but worst of all it was very overpriced for what it was. The main courses were bowls of curry sauce with a few tough bits of meat in them. They charged £15 for these bowls and it was a disgrace. The dishes used to be well thought out and tasty, but obviously they have overlooked quality in favour of profit, and of course that leads to very unsatisfactory cuisine. A disappointing night, would have had better at a local takeawy

The service is one of the poorest I have ever experienced!THE SERVICE (before ordering):When you arrive, you're given the general menu which, coincidentally, does not include the £11,50 Thali Meal (potato, lentils, raita, rice & poppadum), seen on the website. When asking the unconcerned waitress the Thali Meal menu, she goes to the waiter who comes back with ... the £27,50 menu. Finally, after the 2nd request, the Thali meal is ordered.Oh yes, the waitress is now looking at her smartphone, while the waiter checks his watch.THE FOOD:The Thali meal is just average. The cheese naan does not seem to contain much cheese. The Poppadum does seem to be bought from Asda (or just unfrozen?).The tap water is not cold.THE SERVICE (after ordering):Does the waiter does come to check if the food is OK?No, too busy chatting with the waitress (who stopped checking Tinder, by the way).THE LOCATION:The location is good, so my advice is:> Get rid of the waiters> Fire the cook> Have a new landlord with a Bagel (or a Belgian) restaurant.

Food and environment is good. However the manager is too commercial. The moment I sit down, I was told that, I have to return the table in one hour even I am the first customer and the only one at that moment (5pm!). When I return the table at 5:30pm, only two tables are occupied ( out of 60 tables I guess), is it necessary to tell me to return table in one hour under this condition? Food and environment is good but I have had a very bad time there!

A group of 6 of us went to Imli St as left it too late to get a booking at Chutney Mary, Amaya etc... as it was a 50th birthday treat for a friend. Got to the restaurant a tad early and the waiter was happy to seat us. The atmosphere was nice and friendly. The food I would say was average. We had 6 starters of which i only enjoyed the chops and the chicken murgh which were delicious. Amritsari fish, squid, chaat etc were ok'ish and had to return the salmon chunks as was raw and cold..The mains were just about average also, hence my only giving 3 stars at a push. The menu list is not extensive and the waitress was under the impression they were serving south Indian food, which they definitely were not. Point to note to the owners to educate the staff a bit more.. Also asked if they would do a little treat for my friend and was told would get a large fruit platter when booked on the phone. Instead they came with a small plate with a small chocolate fudge slice with a candle stuck in it. Not impressed as we were willing to pay for a nice surprise!!!However on the whole we had a laugh and the atmosphere as I said was cool.

The ambience and sweet smell of coconut hit you as you enter this modern restaurant on Wardour street. We were shown to our table and the member of staff was quick to come and take our order. He offered advice on the food which was helpful. We then waited for ages for food and drinks. When the food arrived we asked again about the drinks and was told that there was only one barman working tonight. We ordered the grill to share - that was delicious but had obviously been ready for sone time as the food was lukewarm. The curries were also lukewarm and one of them was not the one ordered - that had been delivered to another table! The waiter changed the curry to the one ordered but by then the rice and naan bread were cold. The best was chicken thighs which was not expected but the sauces themselves were very tasty. The poppadoms were the ones you buy in bags at the supermarket not the huge delicious ones you might expect in and Indian restaurant. Two alcoholic drinks and two curries, two rice, a nana bread and a £26 starter added up to £90 for two people. Far too expensive, poor service, inexpensive cuts of meat and lukewarm food - I will not be going back.

Wasn't impressed. We were seated but the attendant forgot to give us a menu. After finally flagging a waiter, we received the menu and shortly ordered drinks, starters and mains. Surprisingly, the starts came pretty quickly and were actually quite tasty, but everything else went down hill from there. The mains came after a while, and tasted of nothing. Being Indian, and having attended a lot of Indian restaurants, I don't think I've had anything that tasted of nothing before! On top of that, the alcoholic cocktail we ordered at the beginning didn't arrive until we were eating mains, it wasn't even nice. The nail in the coffin was the total bill, for what we had I thought it was very pricey.

There was a real lack of atmosphere here today , a big room with only a few customers , surprising when Soho was buzzy but I really feel they need to do more here to now excite. Its better to save up and go to big sister Tamarind which has a great set lunch menu and much more modern food. The samosas was terrible, soggy stodgy pastry and a bland mushy middle. The side dishes far too large unless you have a table of 4/6 to share. The roti dry and tasteless cardboard. The raita just yoghurt. The chef wasn't into spice today. And the salad the biggest bowl of chopped red onion I had ever seen. Yes I enjoyed my mango mojito and my partner the chicken biryani but I had expected more small plates of fun food as its supposed to be street , this is just blander than our local curry house for twice the price.

Great food and great service and excellent value. Would compare it to Dishoom in terms of food quality but without the queuing as I was able to get a reservation on a Saturday night at short notice. Restaurant wasn't full at 08.30 on a Saturday which I was concerned about on arrival but the food, service and value mean it really should be full. Will definitely go again and would thoroughly recommend.

The food here was good, but the staff were not that attentive, the portions were very small and over priced. It was nice to try out but would not go there again.

Trendy Indian which has a sort of half restaurant / half café feel to it. Very hip, the self-absorbed crowd is probably not here for the food -the portions are small but taste good and are well presented. It just didn't have enough spice or quantity to impress a real connoisseur of Indian cuisine. Turn up the heat boys and try something a little heavier than a poppadom

Food is great - decor/making it more cosy and intimate would be worthwhile and also better service (had to keep trying to attract waiters to take our order/get a drinks order from us/get tap wayer

Relaxed catch up with family to celebrate a birthday. An understated get together with tasty food. The curries and sides were great, we really liked the Goan sea bass and Kadhai Murgh. We ordered way too much but managed to finish it all. Staff were attentive.

Fancy Indian restaurant in Central London, a short walk from the Oxford Circus tube station. Food was fantastic. The highlight was the lamb chops, which goes quite well with their great collection of cocktails. Beer options were ok. Price was on the higher side. Worth one visit. The basement seating area is much less noisier that the ground level seating.

We (2 adults) popped in on a Monday evening; it was fairly empty. Service was quick and courteous. The food was delicious, authentic Indian food. The menu was varied and offered an alternative to curry house staples. However portions are small and it is therefore pricey. And count your change immediately if you pay by cash (quaint, I know!) - we didn't right away as we were chatting, and were short-changed. Either their maths is dodgy or they decided to try it on. Which left a sour taste in an otherwise good evening.

Great location at the heart of Soho. Contemporary decor, great atmosphere and friendly staff who make you feel like guests. Good portion sizes, a little pricy however worth it considering taste, presentation, location etc... Not very traditional Indian food, more gourmet but we weren't disappointed! Would visit again.

Went with a group and food was excellent. Service good too. Go for the lamb chops and kebabs. They do a mean mojito.

Went with two friends for a quick meal on a mid week evening night and place was still pretty busy (always a good sign). Food was great as was the service and the only reason it did not get 5/5 is that the menu is fairly limited. Very good though

One of the worst Indian meals I have ever had. I wonder how they got a Michelin star or are they using that stars given to Tamarind to promote this ? You can get better food in usual Indian (Bangladeshi) restaurants.

From the starters to the deserts, this place has got it all. Delicious combinations of spices and sauces, succulent meats, just the right amount of "hot" with interesting mix of herbs and spices. I had the Lamb Shank would definitely recommend this. Naans were great, chicken dishes amazing.

Everything was perfect, delicious food, good service and affordable price. One little thing though, I was asked during booking if there were a special occasion, I wrote birthday, but there was no sign response from the restaurant.

I am a little critical with this one. Was here for lunch in this really stylish restaurant and used their 2-course set menu deal. Not many people were in this huge venue for lunch - I counted 7. The quality of the food was was good, the service nice - but I expected better flavored and finished food, so my overall rating is average.

what a wonderful experience, especially for Diwali. The service was excellent, food amazing and they even offered to top up my food to take away, how thoughtful. I had the vegetarian Diwali thali. There was such a variety of food which was delicious. Would highly recommend this restaurant.

By Indian standards, the food is an absolute waste of time and money. Even the service is pathetic. Every dish we ordered was horrible. The naan bread stank. When informed it was replaced with a fresh one but only after an argument. The waiters are not fit enough to be in the hospitality industry. There are many other good Indian restaurants close by just across the road if you feel stranded and want to try some good Indian food.

Hadn’t been to Durbar for 40 years! Well what a treat, as good as I remembered.. delicious unrushed family birthday, good service and excellent traditional Indian cuisine, easy to park, a perfect Friday night out!

Obnoxiously rude staff behaviour. Substandard quality of food. Don’t know how they are doing business in this era. Never recommend

A member of staff gave me a real telling off for arriving the minute after he called for me to collect my food. Very bizarre. Think the problem was he told me to arrive only once he called and didn’t believe I could have got to the collection in the time between him calling and me setting off - that I must have set off prematurely and didn’t wait for him to call. Little did he know I was at the shop next door, so it was quick to get there. I understand that it must be annoying if people arrive early and hang around the shop, so that’s water under the bridge. On the other hand, the food was delicious. So bravo on that front. Will come again, and fingers crossed and I’ll come a tad late!
