They scam people on the wine while selling expensive pizzas, hard to understand how a place like this came to these scam levels on things they sell

Apprezzabile veramente sua cortesia e la passione per la cucina . Ottima la pastiera napoletana da lui preparata per Pasqua. Abbiamo poi ordinato delle pizze notevoli per il gusto napoletano. Puntuale la consegna. Molto buoni anche i cannoli importati direttamente dalla sicilia.

It's only during lockdown that we've been using Il Principe for takeaway and we're kicking ourselves for not using it before. The food is always fresh, tastes exquisite and, if you collect, never takes more than 30 before its ready. I rarely order something straight off the menu, as I generally ask for some combination or variation which they're generally obliging with. Whether it's pizza, pasta or another main dish we've not had a bad meal yet after many many takeaways. Definitely the best Italian in Oxford!

The food is excellent. Ignore any bad reviews - these must be from competitors, as every experience I have had with il principe has been excellent. They are a small establishment, so sometimes the food takes a while to come, but the staff have always been honest with us about this - maybe call them directly to order rather than letting Deliveroo or Uber eats become involved with the transaction - that way you can actually talk to the staff and understand any delay. 99 times out of 100 the food arrives in less than 45 minutes. The other time I know it’s going to take a bit longer - the food is so good, they are popular. The food is delicious, fresh and well priced. The wine is lovely, curated - it makes a real difference that pre lockdown their business was bringing the finest aspects of Italian cooking to us here in the uk. I felt compelled to write this review as this is a five star establishment. Call them, talk about your order - you will not be disappointed.

My girlfriend and I ordered from Il Principe online via Uber Eats and we were very disappointed by the entire experience. Firstly, the food arrived about 20 minutes late, after over an hour’s wait on the app. Then, when opened, we were at first negatively surprised by the aspect of the food, and then by the fact that it was cold. I ordered a pizza which was soaked in oil, and which seamed to have been made in disgust by the cook, with all the ingredients randomly thrown around the pie. La piece du resistance, a ball of burrata cheese, was literally thrown in the middle of the pizza, and left there to be half melted and half cooked. My girlfriend ordered fries, which arrived cold, and calamari, which were fried but all the breading that was supposed to be on them was inexistent. For sauces, they threw in the bag some fastfood sauces - not what you would expect for a 20£/person meal! For desert, we had tiramisu, which, when opened after a 30 minute meal, was still frozen, and a canola siciliano, which was tasteless. I am writing this review after about 20 minutes from finishing the meal, and both my girlfriend and I are feeling quite sick in our stomachs, with me having quite bad cramps. I chose this restaurant based on its good reviews, so I am highly disappointed and recommend that everybody best avoids it.

I am a regular customer at Il Principe and they never disappoint. I would usually go for the original Margherita but since releasing their new menu I love the ‘Nduja pizza. Their food is authentic and the staff are very friendly. I’ve recommended this place friends and family!

I always come here for pizzas and I love the new menu! I recently ordered the Bandiera and Classic Bufala (so delicious.) The family who run Il Principe are very accommodating and consistently provide excellent service. I’m not surprised by how busy they are as I highly recommend them as the ‘go-to’ place for Deli and pizzas in Oxford.

I am just writing this review to inform everyone that, although this restaurant does make great pizza and sides, I have just waited over 2 hours and 20 minutes for my delivery. I called and was offered no remediation, discount or voucher, rather just an explanation that unfortunately, they were ‘working at capacity’. To add, my house is within walking distance of the restaurant so this clearly wasn’t a contributing factor.

Great to see this independent business still serving great pizzas during lockdown. Amazing pizza bases, forget the black and white dot ones on mopeds this is Principe is the real deal .

If you want a focus on the flavour, the taste, these guys are fantastic. I've been to Italy a few times (hooray for me), but can attest this is really actual Italian style, quality, and level pizza. 100%. This is the only place in Oxford I know that does it this well. No corners cut. No dominos and pizza hut tonne of dough. No other restaurant or takeaway in Oxford I've tried are at their level, at least to me. By this I mean focus on taste over padding, 'purity' over clamminess, etc. Just high quality food. And the other places I've tried include most on Cowley exempting maybe one random kebab/'pizza' shop... and pretty much most of the town centre's Italian-esque and pizza serving places - yes, I've been here a long time. Extras on pizza come at £1. Have always been on time. Their shop is actually delightful, serving salads, bolognese, even tiramusi desert and more to go in the day time, as well as a lot of Italian cooking ingredients. I've been meaning to purchase some things such as their pasta to cook myself for a while. Will update or add another review when I find out what it's like. If it's anything like their food it'll be beautiful.

Shop a bit pricy but good quality food. Pizza and pasta takeaway. And more. Nice selection of wines and extra virgin olive oils.

Have principe at least 3 times a week and it never disappoints. Its run by Italians and the pizza is v good for being in England. The deli is a tad expensive I must admit. Anyway if you live in cowley pizza from here is a no brainer

I have ordered pizza from Il Principe for two years now and can confidently say it is the best on Cowley road and perhaps even all of Oxford. The quality of the food is excellent for the price, which is discounted for students.

Delicious pizza (although I've had varying quality and crust burn level, depending, presumably, on who's cooking) and tasty, generous portions of gnocchi, but inexplicably stingy melanzane con parmigiano, literally a half full container with one slice of aubergine. Tasted great but way too pricey for what you get. Delivery is usually speedy and fine, but do make sure they have your mobile number as the delivery guys get easily lost. As I said (as an Italian!), authentically Italian.

I have been here for some parmiggiano, for guanciale, and have ordered takeaway multiple times. Pasta is great, they sell a lot of traditional Italian products at the shop, but the food is also delicious. The calamari friti were some of the best I've ever had! I definitely recommend those of you craving some nice portions of Italian takeaway in Oxford!

Just got a pizza on deliveroo and it’s such a dream. Puffy crust, perfect base, delicious and super authentic. I was hoping for a pizza that felt like it was made in Italy and I was not disappointed. Lemon cheesecake is AMAZING too

El peor Carbonara que he tenido! El tocino es siempre mi parte favorita en ese plato, pero sólo dos piezas es una completa decepción. La Bruschetta estaba super pasada como pusieron demasiado tomate encima y sin albahaca. Realmente decepcionado!

I have tried a variety of pizza's from this restaurant and they have always been excellent. Highly recommended and much cheaper and better quality than Domino's.

Easily the best pizza in this town...why anyone would get Dominos or Papa Johns in Oxford is beyond me. I dream about their pizzas! They're incredible and the staff are super friendly too.

One of the bext Italian pizzas I've ever had in England. Delivery was quick and impressive. Please don't feel put off by reading those nasty false reviews (none of them was true) so order your pizza now.

Increíble pizza para llevar, preciosa casa hizo. Usted puede comprar una pieza de masa de pizza para picar si entrar o un mini calzone. No probamos la otra comida para llevar, pero imagino que podría sacar partido con su propia cena. Postres parecía bueno también!

Nos solía ser clientes habituales de Il Principe. En esta ocasión pedimos dos pizzas, que sorprendentemente llegó a tiempo. Cuando llegaron las coberturas pizza había resbalado a un lado de la caja con la mayoría de las coberturas ya no en la pizza. Llamamos a discutir esto y nos dijeron que podíamos entregar dos nuevas pizzas y recogerá las antiguas. Mientras yo estaba en el teléfono con ellos, mi esposa me pidió que le añada algo de postre a la orden en que estaban entregando de nuevo. 25 minutos más tarde dos pizzas. 5 minutos más tarde nos llama por Il Principe y acusado de Caen y permanente de las pizzas como su "río nunca lo entregarán como eso. ". La mujer en el teléfono era increíblemente grosero y dijo que había destruido las pizzas para conseguir un postre, lo cual es absurdo! Ella me dijo que nunca la orden de ellos y colgó cuando pedí hablar con el gerente. Este es el peor servicio que he visto de cualquier restaurante. Felizmente, nunca le orden de Il Principe de nuevo! Vamos a Mario's al otro lado de la calle donde el personal es agradable y las pizzas de categoría superior. Además, nos dirán nuestros amigos a hacer lo mismo.

One day I ordered two pizzas and one was wrong. I phoned them and they were happy to send me the right one but they wanted the other one back: I hope they didn't recicle that because I opened it in my house, discovering the mistake. Until here it's fine. Second time I ordered one pizza with speck but they put some sort of pancetta in it and not speck: I'm italian and I know how speck is. I told the problem to the delivery guy and he wasn't happy to help saying things like "I don't know, phone them" in a rude way.He just wanted my money. I talked with the chef and he insisted that was speck on pizza indeed it was clearly pancetta cubes: if you write "speck" on the menu it would be supposed it's speck slices, if you are Italian Anyway I gave up and told him it was fine. Most annoying thing was that the delivery guy didn't have change so I paid more than I have to do for two pizzas, having less than I expected. I gave up after a discussion with the delivery man and I gave him the rest as a sort of forced tip: it' not really professional that they don't have change. In the end, pizza is average but service is terrible. We'll never buy from them again.

Worst service I've ever had. They took down our address wrong, then blamed us - why would we give them the wrong address? No apology. Woman laughing down the phone at me. Pizzas took TWO HOURS. Do not order from here, Mario's is much better and the service is amazing!

Quando si ha voglia di una vera pizza italiana allora c'è da chiamare il principe; servizio di consegna a domicilio a solo 1£ in più. La pizza e davvero buona e di grande qualità, provate la pizza fritta e ne rimarrete davvero felici.Ottimo, sempre consigliato.

Seriously good pizza for takeaway. They also have a student/NUS discount of 10% which is handy. I always go here for real Italian pizza (avoid Dominos!)

Il Principe does by far the best takeaway pizza's in Oxford. They are a firm favourite with ex-pat Italians or Italian students and it's clear why. Thin, crisp bases combined with wonderfully fresh ingredients - just perfect. The only sadness is that it's takeout only, if they had a restaurant I'd be hard pressed to choose between them and Mario's over the road. They have 46 to choose from so you're bound to find something that appeals.Other reviews seem to mention the size of the pizza, I don't know if this was just a phase they went through, but i've never experienced it. They seem to be perfectly typical pizza size to me.Delivery is good and fast with a wait of around 30mins normally, you really can't go wrong!

Il Principe è uno dei pochissimi luoghi in città dove un italiano nostalgico della propria cucina può rifugiarsi. Tutti i prodotti proposti sono italiani al 100%, dai biscotti ai salumi, dai sottolio alla pizza, ottima ma purtroppo disponibile solo "take away" dato che non ci sono posti a sedere.

Is this is the best pizza in Oxford - we think so, great takeaway service - we just call and collect 15 minutes later, there is a delivery, there are also other Italian dishes, a good range of pasta fresh & dry, great home made tomato sauce and other delights in the fridge.

Il Principe various Italian meals and ingredients, but here I am primarily focusing on the pizza aspect. I have been getting takeway pizza from here fairly regularly for about a year and I have always been impressed. The Pizzas are large and the base is substantial and filling. The topping ingredients are always fresh and you can see that the chef has thought about how the combination of flavors work. Il Principe puts your average takeaway pizza to shame.In terms of service, I call them up to make an order, they say it will take x minutes (ususaly between 10 and 20) and then its there when I pick it up. Simple. They also do a delivery service but the wait can be long (~1 hour) on delivery - if you live in oxford may as well pick it up yourself.

The pizza was very good: tasty and genuine ingredients and well done dough (soft and not so thick). Moreover the delivery has been very quick: we were told it would have taken 45'-50', but it arrived in 20'.

I have to agree with the most recent review.The size has shrunk significantly.I have been a regular customer for four years. I have recommended il Principe to all my friends in Oxford, because I'm from Naples and it is the most similar to the real pizza you can have here. However, I was very disappointed last Saturday when I saw the pizzas as small as pancakes. The cannot justify this saying that it's an handmade product and doesn't have standard size like in Domino. Actually, all our pizzas seemed of a standard size: all 6 were the same size of a pancake. They use to make pizza a way larger. Are they cutting costs on topping and dough now? Maybe.

Il principe è una miniera d'oro per noi italiani che viviamo ad oxford! È una piccola bottega dove ci si può trovare i tipici prodotti italiani: pasta, biscotti e molto altro. L'unico problema è che i prezzi sono salatissimi!!!! Assolutamente impossibile fare una spesa sostanziosa li, io mi concedo solo qualche sfizio di tanto in tanto. Fanno anche pizza da asporto ed è molto buona! Anche con consegna a domicilio, servizio ottimo a solo 1£ la pizza arriva in orario e calda!! Cheers!

Order two pizzas, came 1 hour after calling, but it's ok I knew that from previous experience. When I ordered it was really difficult to explain to the lady my address. When the pizzas arrived, surprise, they were a way to small. I'm Italian and that size in Italy we call it RIDOTTA and you don't pay 8.50£ for that size. Call it back to have a minimum of apologising: the answer was you can enjoy Domino's Pizza. Thank you very much! Although the taste of the pizza was amazing, the customer service could be much better.

This was the first order I've placed here for delivery. It arrived with a shiny golden caterpillar on the pizza, which put me off my meal a little.I was told on the phone that this can happen as they use fresh rocket and they would send another out right away. After another 30 minutes I was fed up and called to cancel and ask for the one pizza to be refunded, only to be told it was just on the way, they couldn't refund it and I should have said straight away if I didn't want another because they were busy.They said they would call the driver back, yet 10 minutes later he still arrived, asking for the old pizza to take back with him.I'm not very happy with this experience, an easily visible caterpillar on a pizza sent by the chef(it was the first thing I saw opening the box) and a replacement sent out at a very lazy pace means it spoiled a meal for 2, I can't recommend this restaurant. The general disinterest shown over the phone was disappointing.

If you order Pizza, it will be with your, if you are lucky, after MINIMUM 2 hours! and they are not even apologetic or don't even care! DEFINATELY not worth the wait! LAST time I will ever order from this place. I don't even want to give them the rating as they don't even deserve the lowest rating there is (but I wasnt allowed by the website!)

My first experience with this store was for St.Valentine's and it was horrible. I called them in advance, ordered a take-away Tiramisu and was told that the dessert was ready for collection. It took me about 20 minutes to get there and pay, then at least 20 minutes to get home. When I opened the dessert, it was fully frozen. We did not have time to wait, therefore I tried to warm it up in the microwave, which of course fully spoiled it. When I contacted the store, their response was appalling, instrad of apologising, they tried to explain to me that it is actually my fault that I microwaved it. I attempted to explain to the manager that it is actually a restaurant and they are supposed to serve me with food that is ready for eating, not frozen, but again, the response was that everyone else is happy, apparently it's only me who is so unreasonable that complains about purchasing frozen food from the restarant. I do not like complaining on Tripadvisor and spoiling someone reputation, but their impolite replies to my emails really forced me to do so.

My partner and I ordered pizzas from here for the first time this week. I was happy to find out about them, as I much prefer traditional Italian style pizzas to the American type that the big chains offer for home deliver!They offer 10% off for students with an NUS card, which the delivery driver asked to see. The minimum order is £15.We ordered a garlic pizza bread with cheese, a Vegetariana and an Italia. All were delicious and good value for money. The pizzas arrived hot and fresh, the dough was just the right depth and the toppings were generous. I would order food from here again.

I always buy anchovies here. They are the best I've ever had. The system to buy them is confusing and annoying because although one buys them by the weight, there are no scales. The lady behind the counter is melancholy and rude, really. I don't care because they're so delicious.

Its been a while since we ate from here but now I remember how good the pizza is we will do so more often. The dough for the base is delicious and the toppings are full of flavour. Lovely extras available, I had arancino (suppli) and antipasti all of which were really tasty.

We regularly order pizza here -- in my opinion the best pizza in Oxford (in close competition with the pizza van on St Aldates). Very tasty crust and many delicious toppings. I love the Noci pizza especially. I've always picked up after phoning in, so can't comment on delivery service. Usually the pizza is ready very quickly.

I love these pizzas -- excellent crust and good toppings, especially the Five Cheeses and Pesto Genovese versions. I call, I order, fifteen minutes later I go and pick it up. I am happy.

I was shocked by the appalling service I received after ordering a birthday takeaway from Il Principe. We have ordered from there on a few occasions and have normally had very good experiences with good pizza and prompt delivery. However, my latest experience has ensured I will never order from them again. We ordered a four pizzas and assorted antipasti at 7.20pm and were told that it would be an hour or so until it was delivered. This was fine. However, it was soon 9pm and nothing had arrived. We called Il Principe and they asserted that 1hr 40mins was still 'roughly an hour' and that they had a lot of orders in the restaurant, even though these came through after ours. The pizza arrived not too long after this phonecall, but nonetheless was 40 minutes late. I told the delivery driver that, because of these, we were not willing to pay full price for dinner we expected almost an hour before. He gave me his phone to speak to his manager, who not only offered me a patronising £2.50 discount but hung up on me mid-conversation.This is not how a restaurant should treat its customers, ever.I would much rather cycle the four mile round trip to Mamma Mia in Summertown and ride home with four boxes of pizza strapped to my back, in the pouring rain, than order from Il Principe again.

I do buy there from time to time - but only becasue I can't find some products anywhere else - but they are overpriced (esecially pasta and wine). I ordered pizza twice - it was ok but it took them almost two hours to deliver (on both occasions), we called to check where our order is and we've told 'on its way' and then we waited another 45mins. There is much better place to get authentic italian pizza on cowley road.

Olives, antipasti, deserts, tortelini and anchovy are great. Wine is certainly overpriced. I have never regretted shopping there, but home delivery was a disaster.

awesome pizza to take away - they have a great menu - keep meaning to try some of the main courses but have never managed to stray from the pizza so far, they are just too good :-) excellent price too :-)

I've been coming to this place for takeaway pizza for over 5 years. They are consistently excellent! I have never had an issue with the service/timing, which is mentioned in other reviews. They make delicious pizza dough and use excellent ingredients. I have also tried takeaway Italian off their non-pizza menu and highly recommend it. A great family-run place.

Decent pizza's but not worth the hassle of the the service. They are constantly late, promising a delivery within 50 mins but actually taking up to 1 hour 45 minutes. They also promise to delivery and then 30 minutes later change the locations which they will deliver to.

When I pre ordered food for a collection I was told 15mins, I come 20mins after I foned and I'm waiting at least 45mins in the shop, and when it was ready it was wrong thing I ordered, then I ordered a delivery following week and it arrived 1hr 30mins late. Avoid this place

We've previously ordered pizzas and had them delivered, The pizza's are just amazing and easily top the list of the best takeaway pizzas we've had. Sadly the last time we ordered though they forgot our order. We rang them when they were 15 minutes late, they apologised and said they'd be with us in the next 5 minutes. After another 15 minutes we rang again, and at this point they owned up to not having made the pizza's yet. They promised they'd be out within 30 minutes. They didn't arrive. We rang again and were told they were 'just outside' - this was now 2 hours after we'd ordered and getting close to their close time. They assured us they'd arrive. They didn't. We rang again and they said they were on their way. Again when they didn't arrive we rang again - only this time they said they weren't coming out to deliver to us as it was now too late. The biggest shame of it all is that we'd been out for the day - and had chosen to return to Oxford rather than stay and eat out - mainly because their pizzas are just so amazing, so we were all pretty hungry by this point. We rang the next day - and tried to speak to them about what had happened - they claimed we'd never even rung to place an order. This was most disappointing of all. They make super pizza's but their customer service (or lack of) really let them down this time.

Locale piccolo ma ben fornito di gustose prelibatezze italiane. Il menù permette una ampia scelta di pizze, pasta, antipasti e secondi piatti. La pizza é buonissima..l'impasto é quello della vera pizza napoletana. Straconsigliato!

As a regular visitor to Oxford I make sure that I visit Il Principe at least once a visit. The food is great value and the quality is exceptional. The aglio,olio, pomodorino is one of the best pasta dishes I have ever tasted with fresh ingredients and generous portions. The pizza's are amazing too. Great takeaway option!!

These are the best Pizzas I have ever eaten. They are such good value for money you cannot pass them up. We have a take-away from at least once a fortnight. Try them, you won't be disappointed.

I'm a regular customer for this takeaway in the weekends, what I love most about their pizza it is so so delicious compared to other Italian takeaways pizzas in Oxford, my favorite and only is pizza mare, full of flavor and best of all the garlic oil where they are really generous with it, the shop sells also Italian groceries and I have bought their Picorino Romano cheese which was great too, the shop is run by a small Italian family, quite decent family who serve you with a small polite smile on their faces. They also do home delivery within the area.

I really like Il Principe pizzas, they are really tasty and they do taste authentic. The only thing is that in Italy the pizzas would have more ingredients, these pizzas were quite empty.

Before ordering from a take-away company i have a habit of checking reviews on websites. When checking these reviews i realized half of them say the food is outstanding and half say it's terrible. So i decided to take a risk. I ordered the Pizza Parmiggiana, Pizza Americana and Spaghetti aglio, olio e pomodorino. The delivery time wasn't that quick but i understand that it takes time to prepare good food. It was definitely worth the wait. I have to say, i went to Italy a few months ago and out of all the takeaways, restaurants I've tried, this is the only one I've encountered that actually prepares the dishes in a way that the taste is authentic. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone who loves Italian food. I am definitely ordering again.

Food is average and the worse delivery service ever. Staff very rude and pasta way too salty. I would not recommend this restaurant at all.

I ordered a take away lasagne and it has to be the WORST lasagne I have ever eaten. It was made up of watery tomatoes, soggy pasta and hardly any meat. Too salty, no herbs or seasoning whatsoever and no bechemel sauce. Considering this place does such good pizza and is meant to be authentic italian food, I am shocked at how awful it was. Never again will I order pasta from here! I can make a more authentic lasagne myself. Terrible!

We had the most amazing takeaway from here yesterday night. They do take away pizza, but also mains like pasta dishes and calamari. We got some calamari with salad with three pizzas, a vegetarian one, a mushroom one and a smoked meat and cheese one for four people and shared the lot. There was food left over and it was all delicious, great quality and very reasonably priced. The best takeaway Italian food in Oxford =) A great find!

Still love you... but Il Principe might have beat you to the post in my opinion... not that I eat pizza that often - but sometimes, when you do fancy a night in with a pizza - it has to be perfect. My friend recommend this place - I didn't even know they did take away / delivery and I have lived in Oxford for years! Great selection - fast delivery. Authentic. Good ingredients. Crispy base. What's not to like? If they had a restaurant I would go... but kind of glad they don't as Marios is still the best for that.

This place is great for an authentic thin crust italian pizza. Also qutie reasonably priced! They also sell olives and other antipasto, which is a nice touch for the pizzas and pasta dishes that are available.

Il Principe is a small, almost dismissable shop found in between the corners of Temple and Stockmore Street on Cowley Road. Rather than facing the street front, the shop door is almost 90 degrees facing toward the City centre and as such many people will probably walk straight past, but having resided in and around Cowley for the past ten years I'm glad I took the time to explore this little gem. Inside is a boutique shop selling all sorts of Fine Italian goods such as olives, sun-dried tomatoes and dried pasta, but also providing a fantastic range of pizza, calzone and fresh italian meals at nearly half the price of what most high-street restaurants now charge. The Napoli pizza is exquisite, with thin-crust dough and generous toppings. I paid just over a fiver for a large pizza which could comfortably have fed two with a few olives or something. Great little find for takeout (they don't have seating) - especially if you are looking for something fresh, quick and easy.

Let's say that their Italian ingredients are uneven, and some of rather poor quality, but it is a useful place because you can also find some rare Italian types of pasta (Tuscan 'pici' for example), nibbles (lupini in brine), olives, sauces and vegetable antipasti (on the expensive side).

We have been several times and this is a place that makes very good, fresh pizzas and pasta at a low price. In particular, the marinara pizzas are fantastic - very tasty, with a great crust - and the desserts are freshly made.In addition, they now deliver within the Oxford area, making it even more tempting...

I have had pizza a few times now from Il Principe and every time the pizza was good for British standards and the nice thing is they do also home delivery.So if you don't want to go out but want some nice pizza just order it.Nice
