Il Pescatore in Southend-on-Sea

Can't fault the restaurant. It is a bit crowded with not much room but that is a small thing. The food and service were brilliant and we had a lovely meal for mothers day. The grandson was well catered for and there is something to suit everyone. They even came outside to find us after I forgot my bottle of wine on the table. Lovely people.

Came here as a solo dinner (billy no mates) on a Wednesday night as I was in Southend for work. Nice selection of dishes on the menu, food was tasty, wine list looked good, plenty of customers and service was decent. Prices for mains don't include sides, so bear that in mind. However the waiter did organise a small side salad for me when I asked, which wasn't on the menu. I had the seafood pasta, which had a good selection of shellfish. I wasn't impressed with the house white.

We found this little Italian restaurant online reviews are excellent. Great decor like stepping back in time. My friend had the pizza and I decided on veal with the marsala sauce, not cheap £18.99 without vegatable, with veg £5 not a problem. If I knew the veal portion was going to be to 2 slither of meat and a few veg I would of gone for something else. Nothing wrong with it just Nothing there. ..I left feeling hungry and said to my dinning partner I need to find some place to eat because I was still hungry. I not a big person, I have a small appetite....but not that small

Food was all delicious, and very good value from the valentine's set menu options (included coffee and dessert!) Staff were very warm and attentive. Used to be dimmer lighting which was more cosy but I can see why they thought to change it. Man at the table next to us was problematic but that's not the fault of the restaurant and he didn't do enough to be thrown out. This place has kept up its great reputation for high quality food and service even in difficult times!

Worst experience ever! Service was ok but we got food poisoning even though they was pretending that the food was fresh ! Do not go there please!

Took three of my sons for dinner here and absolutely everything from the food to the hospitality and atmosphere was incredible. The T bone steak and sauté potatoes was done to perfection! The boys all being fussy choose pasta dishes and pizza and cheesy garlic bread and when speaking with the staff and requesting what they wanted with items removed and added (fussy kids) it was not an issue and when came and in good time too.. was all spot on, no having to ask for anything to be amended or changed at all. Absolutely lovely all round that's all I can say

Ive been to Il Pescatore multiple times now, and every time i have been i have had a great experience. The Atmosphere makes you feel like its the heart of italy in the middle of Southend. 5 Stars to the Staff and the Chef which never disappoints.

A true old school Italian restaurant with food that can awaken all of your taste buds and quickly teleport you to a small Italian village where everything is fresh and life is simple. You really don’t want to leave that place. 10/10 food, 10/10 service and the owner/host is a real gentleman that will make everyone feel welcome. The staff does not know the menu or the drinks that it has in the restaurant. The food was good but not wow, the pizza I ordered, the top (dough) was not well made and it was very thin and hard.

pizza was ok italian meat was just basic the garlic veg pasta was bad not worth the money at all i only give bad reveiws if its a total rip off or if the food is bad 2 for 2 i also give really good reveiws if the food is good but this is just my oppinion which i have a right to share i gave one star because it was the worst pasta dish iv ever tasted 😂

I have been visiting this restaurant for many years and known Dan since he worked there with his father. absolutely love this place, the food, staff and setting are wonderful, will always recommend. I have always taken my children from a young age, they are all grown up now and they still use it today and always recommend to their friends.

Come here with my sister over the weekend and I had a lovely spaghetti bolognaise and a fillet steak all cooked to perfection and I will most definitely be coming back. Customer service was also excellent.

Drinks from the can are flat as a pancake, and the children's meatballs come out cooked with chilli in, so if your child doesn't like spice, it's a complete waste of money. When sent the drink back for being flat, we were told that'll be the same if we order another can of coke, baring in mind you're paying £3 for a can. Not any that I've had at home come out as flat as that. Pollo Milanese was quite dry and over fried.

Service was good and friendly, atmosphere was nice and relaxed during the off-peak season when I went. However, the food was awful, the food barely looked like the photos on Google. The fish was dry and overcooked, the scallops were so inedible I had to spit it out. It’s unfortunate because it’s nice place but the food didn’t measure up.

Family friendly. Children always welcome. Great food and atmosphere. Beautiful ice creme/ gelato not too sweet which makes a wonderful change.

Lack of professionalism and taste in food. On the menu was written coca cola and receiving flat, deluted with water and ice Pepsi, even wasn't mentioned by waiters. At the end it has been rectified after complaining we wasn't charged. Food quality sadly only mediocre. Won't be coming again.

Had the mixed grill last night and it was very underwhelming. 1 and a half sausages, boot leather steak, chicken breast and 3 bits of bacon rather than a pork chop cor £22. Wife had pizza which should have come with cherry tomatoes, arrived with salad tomatoes? She only ordered the pizza for the cherry toms. Food wasn't great but service was good.

The food here was quite good. I had the Aubergines Parmesan. This didn't have the amount of eggplant I'm using to enjoying, that said it was quite enjoyable as was the seafood melody my wife thoroughly enjoyed.

Absolutely lovely place. Love Sicily and Sicilian food. The Dover Sole was excellent. The place had a relaxed atmosphere and the staff were attentive. Throughly recommended and next time i'm in Southend, I'll be eating there again

Excellent food, welcoming friendly staff, great house red! Definitely recommend. Visited for my mums birthday- we had cannelloni, lasagna, salad, merlot and tiramisu for dessert. Really good quality food, obviously take pride in their cooking and their service.

I have been going to this place even before I moved to Southend. The service and food are 👌. The only issue I have found, even though I'm not person that likes too much salt, it was lacking it every single time, particularly in pastas. But pizzas are amazing, don't know what they do with the dough but it's AMAZING, and I'm not a bread eater😅🙈 But unfortunately they downgraded quality of olives. Because of this and the salt, I have reduced star for food.

We came here on Sunday and they were closing so we had to place order fast. And that's what we did. We placed order fast and we had the food after less than 10 minutes. Food was great. We got the pasta dishes for both and the calamari starter. We asked for a bit if parmezan and meal was served and was delicious. I do recommend this place not only for the food but also for a great service as well. Polite,fast,piping hot food. What else someone can ask for?

What an excellent place to spend an evening. My wife and I visited for our anniversary. It was a Thursday so admittedly it wasn't full to the rafters but we were both impressed how busy it was for a Thurs. The food was excellent and the service was amazing. Our waitress Leona, was so attentive and made sure our evening was prefect, she is an asset to the company. We enjoyed our time there and will be heading back again soon.

Staple local Italian, good service, busy place. Seafood food pasta, too much sauce and 4 unopened mussels. Pollo Milanese, dry and fried too long. The spaghetti that came with it was passable. The garlic bread was very nice. Quality of food seem have dipped a bit

My partner wanted to find a restaurant where we could quietly enjoy our meal away from the "full of life" main street, and he found it! As well as it being a beautiful day, the service was impeccable, and the food was absolutely gorgeous. I'm always sceptical about trying new foods, but what we ate was delicious. We will return when we visit again - thank you very much for your service. Total meal valued under £80 plus x2 alcoholic drinks and a coffee.

The best Italian restaurant in Southend (okay maybe joint best) and absolutely worth going to. The food is sublime, the service is very friendly and the price is just right. I've never had a bad meal here in 20 years of going.

Visiting Southend-on-Sea for a theatre show, having lived there previously I was excited as I always rate the food scene in the area. Wanting to try somewhere different I asked a friend of mine from the area where they would recommend eating and they gave a list of options with Il Pescatore as one of those. I looked online and the place looked good, cute and quaint and knowing my partner loves Italian food thought let's give it a go. Well this recommendation was absolutely spot on! I can't believe i didnt knokw about this place when i lived locally. First of all you step intok a restaurant that makes you feel like you've stepped off the streets of Essex into Italy itself, the setting is intimate, and quaint with a real rustic family run feel. We had booked which I'm pleased we did as the restaurant is faily small however this really adds to the charm and wouldn't want the restaurant any bigger as otherwise it may lose some of this. We had a lovely waiter who sat us and spoke about the menu which was great to see this care taken. Whilst trying to decide we took several moments as the waiter was passing by to ask questions and recommendation on the menu and the waiter happily answered all of these with a real care which is unfortunately hard to come by these days. What was great was from our table I could see into the kitchen and able to see them taken fresh dough and kneeding it into shape with care to create some amazing looking pizza's with a smell that filled the restaurant. Equally knowing if the pizza's are this fresh then I imagine the pasta to be also I was torn in what to order. To save having to make that biggest decision of all we opted to forgo starters and ordered a pasta dish each and a pizza to share between us which I would deffinately recommend to anyone to do as it gives you the chance to sample the best of both. Now onto the important part, well the food was ABSOLUTELY INCREDIBLE! I rarely say this about food in restaurants in the UK these days, but the food blew me away! This place is a true hidden gem and one not to be missed when in the area. If I lived closer, I would be eating here every chance I could. The food was fresh, with a gorgeous smell filling the restaurant and I didn't want the meal to end. We didn't order dessert so can't comment on that however we did look over the menu and it didn't seem to have the same jazz and appeal of the main menu, so maybe a refresh of the dessert options would be my only improvement feedback to offer. We did however finish our meal with coffee which I would rate as good but this could and should be improved considering gorgeous Italian coffee's on offer, however these are small things as the restaurant truly delivers exactly where it needs to.......the food! What an incredible little restaurant.

I have eaten here a few times now and it been excellent everytime. Food reasonably priced and very good. You get alot for your money. Staff super friendly and helpful and it just nice. Give a chain restaurant a miss and come here instead, you will not be disappointed.

Went for a work Christmas party. The staff were friendly and helpful. The food was excellent and arrived really quickly - impressive as there were 16 in our group. I'll definitely be coming back here.

Not been to this restaurant before. It was booked for a birthday celebration. We eat out quite a lot so have a pretty open minded view of local eateries. Ordered a mixed grill. The sausages were awful and actually inedible. Had perhaps been in the fridge far too long. I could not tell which was the pork and which was the chicken. My wife ordered a Pizza. Tasteless and bland. Out of a packet ? Especially when the day before we had eaten at a similar venue just round the corner where the food is far superior and cheaper. Garlic bread was great. No bottled lager. Service was so so. Prices high. Good atmosphere. Will not be visiting again.

Am Italian living in Essex, must say with all those chains company restaurants (Italian, France, Chinese..and so on.) To find a restaurant run by a family with a really Italian chef...I think is a luxury. And il Pescatore restaurant is certainly a luxury. That you go for a pizza, for a spaghetti frutti di mare , or a steak and glass of red 🍷...peeps you will never feel so good... smiling allway out. The service is great and I think they're very proud of their food quality 👌. Dom

Delicious but overpriced food, I don't think its worth it as there are so many other great restaurants around. I would have given more stars, but customer service and staff are very rude, my family left a bit shocked with the way they treat clients. I wouldn't go back or recommend anyone.
