Food and service brilliant, but place is was freezing! Ate with our coats on as did others. Put some heating on guys! Food was amazing tho and staff lovely, will try again in summer.

Ordered online, charged £40, food never delivered and restaurant says they can't do anything. Think twice before ordering online here

First time at Il Capitano to try the pizza and pasta. Busy even though it was early on a wet Friday evening. Pleasant greeting as we arrived. Good choice of pasta and pizza with decent wine and choice of beer. My draught Poretti was spot on and our Italian Merlot very good too. Service was attentive and we enjoyed our calamari and bruscetta starters the bruscetta com alice was particularly good. Our carnivore pizza and gamberoni pasta left us with no room for dessert. Pizza had plenty of toppings and a nice speckled crust but the base was a bit soft. Pasta was fresh nicely al dente with plenty of prawns. Good enough for us to book again for the family 👍👍

I am a big meat eater but tonight I had the Wilsons Pear pizza and partner had pepperoni, both were gorgeous but unfortunately I was made to share mine!! Food was great, service was great and we'll definitely be eating there again. Best pizza 🍕

Its a bit of a random location in an old pub in the middle of knotty Ash. However the current owners have done a good job of transforming the decor in to what almost feels like a greek/fish restaurant vibe. The cuisine is Italian however and the Italian food is very good indeed. The pizzas are the best I've had outside of Naples. The caesar salad dressing is homemade and delicious. It would be great to see the addition of some pasta dishes. But with what they do offer, hey do it well and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend. Shout out to the manager who is always welcoming

Popped in by chance, which happened to be an hour before they were due to open. Mike was really lovely and allowed us in early. Pizzas were lovely, decor really nice, fresh and clean. Great playlist to listen to, and Mike was ready to talk about the menu abd also had a good sense of humour. Definitely recommend 👌

An unexpected visit, but as we drove past we couldn't help but notice the boat outside, and that made us stop. Curiosity meant we ventured in and as soon as we were through the door we were given a very warm welcome. Great table by the window (with boat view) and an excellent menu with plenty of vege options. 2 pizzas and fries left us full and extremely satisfied. We'll be coming back even though it is a fair bit of a drive from where we live. Highly recommend. Good luck to them as they've only been open since August. They were giving pizzas to the nurses on strike today too, so bonus point. Solidarity. x

I’ve been wanting to try this place for a while as we live close by. It didn’t disappoint. Great pizza with fresh ingredients and the Poretti beer is a good choice! Staff were really friendly and welcoming. We will visit again soon!

Was very cold in the restaurant not as good as Waterloo restaurant ordered desert hot but came out cold they too it back then it came out cold for a second time realy disappointed staff friendly 😑

Took my kids here today as we’d heard they do gluten free pizzas and my eldest has celiac disease. We eat out a lot and I can hand on heart say that I have never been made to feel more welcome or looked after. Anywhere. Ever! They were absolutely fantastic they couldn’t do enough for us! Needless to say the food was also fantastic and we will be back!!

This place is awesome. Friendly staff, authentic ingredients and a proper pizza oven. The pizzas are honestly on a par with anything we’ve had in Italy. I’m kind of glad there isn’t one of these near to my home or I would eat pizza far too often.

My husband and I visited Il Capitano's last night for a valentines date, as this style of pizza is our favourite! We always drive past and have been meaning to try it, so we did. Upon arrival the first thing I noticed was the décor is brilliant, the boat outside, the lovely blue colours like your in the med and the rustic lighting, not to forget the focal point...that fantastic authentic pizza oven 😍. Great attention to detail with the lemons and prints/pictures dotted about, along with the table bucket with a choice of cutlery and serviettes. (including pizza wheels for cutting). The atmosphere was evident although there were only a few customers as it was early evening, it got busier through the evening. The music was great and the volume wasn't too much. The candles added a nice ambiance. The staff were very helpful and friendly and we were offered our free drink on arrival as part of the valentines day booking. We got a bottled beer and it came chilled with a glass and lemon. I did notice all the soft drinks were in cans also which is great. Onto the food, we ordered the calamari and garlic bread for starters followed by a pepperoni each (or a Diavola for the Italians) with a garlic aioli and another beer to wash it down because the first one was so good. The calamari was fresh in a light tempura, it came with fresh lemon and a lemon aioli. The garlic bread was a pizza base with garlic butter and cheese, what's not to like. Then the pizza, which for us is the main event. It was authentic and the dough, pepperoni and cheese were good, it was a bit heavy on the tomato for a Neapolitan style pizza and the tomatoes didn't taste like san Manzano's, in my opinion, but it says they are so lets blame 'covid' for possibly affecting my taste long term. The garlic Aioli even seemed to be homemade, not bought, as it had raw garlic in, you could taste the heat, better than some garlic mayo squeezed out a bottle like some places. When the food was served we were even offered additional condiments without having to ask. The bill came in at £48 plus tip. All in all, it was very good, don't go into town, support your local business' when they are this decent. You can 100% see the effort they are putting in here. The 4* is based on the overall experience, there is always room for growth/tweaks as this is a new business. The only thing I would say is the mirrored décor is beautiful but if your gonna have that it needs to be polished because it makes it look dirty when smeared and the restaurant is clean other than that, including the immaculate toilets!! Very enjoyable, good quality, will return!! 😃🍕

The pizza is fantastic, I had a meaty one and the mrs went for a veggy option, freshly stonebaked to perfection, Mike the owner was proper welcoming and his cocktails were on point. Give it a go, the pizzas are way better than the takeaway

Quick decision to go out for tea for a catch up, food was lovely, Mike was so welcoming, nice atmosphere and music too! Definitely recommend and will go back with friends 👍

Lovely Place. Lovely Pizza, Lovely Staff!!!

Came here Friday night for a quick bite to eat, had heard good things and it didn't disappoint. Staff were all super friendly, prompt and accommodating. Food was excellent too, living not too far away from here I can say I'm giddy that I now have local Neapolitan style pizza just a few minutes away. Can't wait to go back and try some more stuff on their menu

My new favourite pizza place. Brilliant value for money. I had some trouble with Uber eats, not the restaurant’s fault at all but never the less, Mike resolved the situation which I’m really thankful for. Will 100% recommend and be re ordering.

First time visiting IL Capitano's and it certainly won't be the last visit. We arrived half an hour before it had opened for the day however we were still invited inside by the lovely staff who were kind enough to still seat us and serve us despite us being there early. The pizza was absolutely lovely and so were the staff. Highly recommend!

Went for the first time yesterday with my two Daughters. Absolutely lovely. Got the pepperoni pizza which is so light and enjoyable. Doesn’t stuff you like normal pizzas. Fries were lovely and fresh and the Poretti was a lovely pint. Staff all friendly, feels clean and fresh and brilliant music on. 10/10 for me.

What can I say...we didn't have a booking but we're graciously given a table anyway by the lovely John, best pizza I've had for a long time, fresh and delicious, the wine was beautiful and went perfectly, we had a great laugh and the staff made us so welcome even though we were the last ones of the evening they didn't rush us or make us feel like we had to leave, can't recommend highly enough, try it you won't be disappointed 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

I give one star only because the pizza dough was okay, the rest was awful. I do not recommend. The service was sleeping, on very low level, mortuary atmosphere.

We ate the traditional Margherita and it was simply impeccable, delicious, authentic Neapolitan pizza in a wood-fired oven. Nice place and friendly and efficient service. We will certainly be back very soon.

Pizza was taking to long and we got the wrong oreders

Had the pleasure of visiting for the second time since opening. The food is amazing , the staff are amazing, nothing is too much trouble and the prices are very reasonable for such quality ingredients . The cheesy garlic bread is the best I have ever tasted and the Wilson pear pizza is a defo recommendation. Knotty Ash you are so lucky to have this restaurant on your doorstep.

il - Capitanos is hands down the best pizzeria in the whole of the north west. The starts were unbelievable and the pizzas are honestly to die for. This is a bran new restaurant in the area which is needed and brings a really good vibe and atmosphere. All the staff were great and attentive. Cannot recommend it any more, and they do take away!!

Booked for the opening night in the restaurant and so happy we did! Starters, pizzas and fries all amazing. Courgette fries are out of this world. Erdinger on draught and lovely cocktails for the wife. Had a great night can’t wait to come back!

One of the lucky ones to get a table on opening night. Absolutely exceeded expectations. Lovely atmosphere. My daughter said it was like being on holiday. Sublime authentic pizzas, starters and desserts. So lucky to have this place in walking distance. Try it. You will NOT be disappointed.

I highly recommend this excellent new pizzeria in Knotty Ash, something we’ve needed in this area for a long time, I can recommend the Wilson pear pizza with Gorgonzola walnuts and thinly sliced pear, I shall be going again soon and taking all my family and friends.
