Il Borgo Antico in Cheshire East

We were impressed by the premises - hadn't been for many years and the restaurant is welcoming, comfortable and has a definite italian ambience. The staff were friendly and provided a prompt, well paced and efficient service from start to finish. The menu covers all the items you would expect at an Italian restaurant and food choices included Pizza, Pasta, Risotto, Steakes, Fish dishes, Hanging Kebabs so would suit families with small and teenaged children as well as the older child free clientele. All the dishes we chose were well presented and good portion sizes without being overfacing. The only slight criticism is that the food tended to be over salted - perhaps add less to the cooking and allow diners to add salt to their own preference (and health requirements) We would definitely visit again.

After driving through Poynton we came across Il Borgo. The decor, lighting and ambience were so inviting we couldn't help but stop here as we were looking for somewhere for a quick bite to eat. The service, food and value for money were second to none. I love Italian food and will certainly return to try more of their menu. Thank you for such a pleasant evening and great food. We will be back xx

Our first visit since a change in management and what a difference! Very friendly efficient service which saw the chef coming out to clarify my wife's dietary issues, before 2 very tasty meals following. And reasonably priced too. Well be back. Well done folks!

Lovely food, friendly staff, nice atmosphere! We were a party of 7, and had a wonderful meal in her tonight, the spare ribs and calamari were delicious, and the pizza and risottos were fantastic. All freshly cooked from scratch, the owner/chef came out and spoke to us for a while and was so friendly. We really had a lovely evening. Highly recommended!

Very disappointing. Started poorly as the only beers were lagers which none of us drink. Surely it can't be too much trouble to have some bottles of ale available. So we ordered soft drinks but they were overpriced. £2-50 for a splash of blackcurrant with water is ridiculous. The starters were ok but 3 of 4 main meals were awful. One meal was far too salty, another over cooked so that the pasta stuck together and the risotto was a dreadful congealed lump.

Had my 60th here.catered for 12 people and the food was incredible and the portions are huge. The staff are so lovely, albeit a little slow, but it was a busy Saturday night. Will definitely return.

We went for a pre-booked meal on New Year's Eve. We turned up a few minutes early and were seated without a problem. Things started reasonably well, the restaurant is very nice, with an atmosphere and lovely smells. However, things were a little....chaotic. there were 5 or 6 waiting staff, but they all seemed to be serving all the tables, randomly, so one would take our order, another would bring things - at some point. On each course, one of us got food 5 minutes after the others. Some things, we had to ask for a few times, including asking if we could order more drinks. At one point, we were asked if we had finished, before our food had even been brought out! I would think that allocating staff to certain tables would make things a lot easier, although it was explained to us that 3 staff hadn't turned up that night, so maybe it was just a bad night, and the staff seemed to do their best. I guess people were staying longer than expected, or people were turning up without booking, as there were a lot of people waiting for their tables. They were seated (and stood) right behind our table, which made things a bit uncomfortable The food - garlic bread, steak & duck were all great, although the peppercorn sauce was more like a Diane. However, the fries & chunky chips weren't very fresh (or had been kept warm), as they were quite dry. We also had to get the bill recalculated as we were charged incorrectly.

Came in for pizza and ended up having a lovely evening and ate far more than I intended as the food, service and ambiance were much better than I had expected and all the staff were really friendly. I would certainly recommend it to anyone wanting a substantial meal for a good price and the Peroni was spot on too!

Honestly the best Italian I have ever had, bonus that the kids both loved it too! We can not wait to go back! I can’t believe my partner has only just introduced us to this place! Food was amazing and staff was all brilliant and welcoming 🥰

Booked in for 4 of us for a meal, and the restaurant is nice. The table placement, where we were, wasn't great as we were against a wall at the back, and it was really dark. The drinks were ordered, and 2 of the 4 were wrong, but the staff put it right, so fair play, but it's hard to get 4 soft drinks wrong-and they were expensive! When the meals came, one was a risotto, but unfortunately, you could have cemented a wall with it,it was that stodgy-it was the same with the carbonara, apparently,and my meal was very salty. The lobster ravioli was good though, so I'm told. All in all,an overpriced, mediocre experience.

Told to F**k off by owner after calling to make a genuine complaint . Pizza and garlic bread were undercooked and tasted bought in. My chicken was reheated and the sauce was like water, completely tasteless. The red wine was served freezing cold! Complained in the restaurant, called when we got home to leave honest feedback instead of writing a review, eventually I was told to F*ck off having been nothing but honest and polite. Poynton is a small place, we will spread the word and pop in to give face to face feedback over the next few days! Avoid at all cost!

Visited here for an evening meal and the food was delicious! Compliments to the chef- extremely tasty. The ribs are really good and the tortellini superb. If it was down to the food only I would give top marks and more. The ambiance of the restaurant is good but I only gave four stars due to the service! It was not bad but very amateur. Two very inexperienced girls who appeared more interested in chatting together than serving the customers. A professional front of house waiter and this would be an absolutely fantastic restaurant,

I wanted to say a big thanks for the fantastic night we had for my husband’s retirement do with 20 of his colleagues. Nothing was too much trouble, food and service were a credit to you. We had a lovely evening. You went above and beyond to make it memorable. Thank you!

A not too busy place hoping for a relaxed meal with friends. Unfortunately a few minor things add up, such as, 10 of us at the table and not enough menus, menu written in small font, waitress stood at one end of the table trying to capture our order without any attempt to hear us or let us hear her, garlic breads arrived and we had to ask for pepper, mains arrived, again had to ask for pepper and cheese, lasagne heavy and little meat, salmon in a pink sauce,,,what is a pink sauce, tasted ok but nothing to recommend.

First time visit tonight! Excellent home cooked Italian cuisine and fantastic staff!! Highly recommended!

Wow, we've been missing out on this place! It's clearly a very different restaurant Vs how it was the last time we visited a few years ago. What a gem of a restaurant to have in Poynton! Great, very friendly and very attentive staff, very reasonable prices, and the food is incredible! Clearly very popular for takeaway pizza too. Will be back, often!

I've been coming to Il Burgo for years, since they were over in Heaton Moor. Absolutely perfect every time. The food is brilliant. The staff are very friendly and efficient. The restaurant is always well presented, clean and tidy. Good menu for the kids as well as colouring pens etc to keep them happy.

Not been in for a little while. Still excellent in every way. A young but attentive set of staff who were very mindful of our picky eating requirements. The meat is delicious and so is the fish. The best cappuccino I have had for a long while. Highly recommended if you are ever in Poynton.

We were visiting the area for a couple of days and chose this restaurant for dinner because we wanted some good, authentic, Italian food and Trip Advisor reviews looked mostly positive. However, it was very disappointing. Firstly, the wrong drinks came out and then the right ones weren’t nice. The water we ordered didn’t arrive until we’d asked twice. The main courses were bland. Lasagna had barely any meat in it and just tasted of tinned tomatoes. The spaghetti tasted like it was made by Heinz. A side of roasted vegetables comprised potatoes, carrots, broccoli - not Mediterranean veg as expected - and they tasted old. We ate as much as we could bear and left to get dessert elsewhere.

Very nice meal, it was very busy so waited a while for the food. Nice staff and good service.

Once again a lovely evening. Food and service excellent. We go here regularly and are never disappointed. At the end of the evening the chef/owner comes round to thank customers and ask if they enjoyed themselves. Give it a try, you won’t be disappointed.

We went for a birthday dinner on a Friday night and had a really good meal. The service was excellent. The food was very good for the price and the atmosphere was good too. The atmosphere would have been even better if a little busier. Would definitely go again to Il Borgo.

Delicious food and great service 😋

Went today with my daughter for a little celebratory meal after she had passed an important exam and we fancied an Italian, so decided to try the restaurant out. The service was lovely and the mock tail we ordered was also lovely, though the red wine was average. Unfortunately we ended up leaving part way through our starters due to the quality of the food. My daughter ordered the gamberoni to start and was extremely disappointed. It was a pot of large prawns that had clearly been reheated from frozen and tasted like rubber. The sauce accompanying was nice but the salad was dried out and had no flavour. I had the garlic mushrooms that tasted like mushrooms put in a store bought sauce and regrettably we could not finish either dish. We cancelled our mains and left. The service were very kind and understanding and did not charge us for the starters, we paid for our drinks and moved on. Real shame and I hope the restaurant listen to the feedback as I would like to see local business thrive, especially in this current economic climate.

Is not my first time…the food is so good and the service very attentive..very welcoming and good atmosphere…staff very friendly and the prices very reasonable also for the set menu …I had a very nice night thank you I will definitely come back

Great food but you can wait a while in between courses on a Friday or Saturday.

Staff seemed genuinely uninterested in our table of five. We placed empty glasses at the end of the table (at the spare seat we had as thankfully given a table for 6) because nobody cleared them away. Various dishes were not available from the menu & with the restaurant basically empty on a Friday at 7.45pm I'm guessing others haven't been impressed before us. However, the food was delicious & only didn't receive 5 ⭐️ because 2 out of 5 dishes got served cold.

I honestly love this restaurant, food amazing and service lovely from young staff. This industry is usually minimum wage and tips make it for people, to find out our £20+ service charge on our bill doesn’t go to staff is disgusting.

Faultless. Fresh. Delicious. Great service. Ample portions. Whitebait, king prawns, leek and potato soup. Then spaghetti vongole, spaghetti marinara and lamb shank. Best chunky chips. Too full for desert. We’ll be back. 😋

Got recommended this place by a friend so booked in for date night this evening. Walking in we were greeted by a welcoming host and seated quickly. First impressions of the establishment are "this is going to be good" There were a few 6+ party tables in which added to the atmosphere, very much the Italian dinner table with family and friends enjoying food, wine and good company. Reminds me of when we see my family in Italy and have meals together. The waiter/host that dealt with us was brilliant and he'll go far in the hospitality trade. The girls working the floor were very attentive to all the tables. Very impressed with the FOH team, they may be young but they're a credit to the restaurant. Next the food, just wow. Hanging beef Kebab was incredible and the seafood risotto was lovely. Looking forward to our next visit to try out more of the menu. The owner/manager was out and about chatting to tables which was nice to see and added that "welcome to my home, enjoy yourself" feel. Espresso was good and the Grappa was like being back in Maniago. 100% recommend this place no matter the party size for a genuine taste of Italy(even if it is the South).

Had a family dinner yesterday night, was a very special occasion.. the food was excellent the staff very friendly..like every time

It is difficult to overstate how bad this experience was. Attended for 70th birthday celebration. Juts four of us. Young man at the door motioned towards a table at the back of the restaurant (didn’t show us to it!). Was set for two and only...

Since last year,when we last attended here we were slightly disappointed. Service friendly enough but no front of house like previous and not as attentive. Pizza was extremely disappointing. Looked like a warmed up pizza. My arriabata pasta and garlic bread were excellent and the only highlights.Beef Stroganoff was bizarre. It contained gurkins. There was no offer of desserts either, plates left hanging about. Like the restaurant but wouldn't rush back. After paying a fair sum we expected more. Not sure if it has changed hands but it was certainly different from our last experience.

I was expecting high quality as it always looks busy. Very disappointed in the quality of food and service. Calamari was chewy and lacking taste. Wild boar tortellini extremely small portion but taste was ok. My wife had seafood risotto which was rubbery and too...

Things are running smoothly. Early evening impromptu meal out with the family. The service and food were excellent. They treated our kids brilliantly. It was early doors, they made them everything they wanted. Our daughter is 3 and they did her pizza exactly as asked....

Superb meal, perfectly cooked steak, presentation good, with generous portions. I had a garlic coffee to finish which is notoriously difficult to perfect in any restaurant, but this was the most perfect that I have had in years, thanks to an excellent waitress. Well done! We'll be back.

A lovely restraunt in Poynton on Park Lane. The staff were really friendly and attentive and wanted to ensure we had a good evening. There menu has a varied selection of food available and we both enjoyed our chosen starter, mains and dessert. The food was cooked to our liking and the portions were excellent. These were accompanied by an accepted range to choose from wines, beers and lagers. We had a most enjoyable evening and look forward to another visit soon.

A simply lovely meal we decided to go for dinner and booked for 5pm. Lovely little restaurant with parking at the back of the premises on Park Lane Poynton. Seated promptly with great service from the young lady server, very attentive and interactive with us. Banter in Italian, bit of Spanish and a touch of Arabic (inshalah). I had garlic mushrooms unusual to me at least in that they had a tomato sause, my partner had the mushrooms stuffed with spinach and cheese both delightful. Pizza to follow, A beautiful pillow of a calzone with a separate serving of bolognaise sause whilst I had something called a Macarena, spicy with pepperoni and jaiapino. Reasonably priced with a Peroni and a large wine, yes we will be back.

I don’t often write reviews, especially whilst waiting for my meal! But I have been here so long I thought why not.The ‘early bird offer’ advertised on the notice board outside clearly states valid all day Thursday (it is a Thursday), the waitress presented me with the main menu and the wine menu. When I asked if I could have the early bird menu, I was told it wasn’t valid and their website had been updated!After taking a photograph of the said menu, they agreed to honour the early bird menu, but only this time! They assume there would be a next time, interesting!!Well the food finally arrived and to be fair it was ok.But please El Borgo sort your staffing levels out, remove out of date offers from your notice board otherwise word will get around and the place will be empty!Will I return? Open verdict!

we went to eat and we were really happy to choose this place .. we are very happy to see the restaurant very busy after all the time they have been closed it's really nice to see it like this ... the food was very good nothing to take away .. very tasty and really tasty..we waited a little bit since it was busy but I tell you that it was really worth it..I'm really happy who we are back almost to normal .. and thanks for always giving the best of you even being busy ..thank you

My wife and I went there on lunchtime and sat outside (it was before customers were allowed to go inside). The food we had was excellent and could not be faulted. We decided to go for an evening meal with 2 friends on a Thursday night. What a difference! The service was very slow, the food was cold, my salmon was surprisingly tasteless, I realised why on the way home it was supposed to have a lemon and prawn sauce but they had forgotten to put the sauce on. It was cold anyway and the veg were cold and undercooked (I like my veg al dente but not this raw). It came with a whole small fennel which I think had been grilled it was cold soggy and tough. The other guests were saying that there food was OK but after we had left they all commented that the service was slow and the food cold. Won't visit again (I'm just waiting now for the owner to reply and call me names).

We had an excellent meal at Il Borgo Antico recently to celebrate an extra special family birthday. We were make to feel very welcome, with the table beautifully decorated, fabulous service and the most spectacular of birthday cakes! All the dishes we had were excellent: generous in portion size, piping hot and deliciously tasty (the special hanging skewer kebabs being a particular favourite).Poynton’s gained a number of restaurants over the last few years, but this one should definitely be on your ‘must visit’ list, and is a regular go-to of our family.

Went early doors Friday with some friends. We all enjoyed a fantastic meal. Service excellent. The daily specials were varied. Had the half roast duck, fantastic. Lots of fresh seafood on the specials. Really enjoyed our meal!

The food was so fresh and I loved every part of it. The dessert was definitely home made and I had the best mussels I’ve ever had. I will definitely be coming back and recommending to family & friends. The staff were all so lovely and nothing was too much trouble. Thank you for a lovely evening!

We had dinner on Sunday evening and we were very happy..the food was very good and tasty the staff were very friendly...in fact the even offered us some blankets to stay warm...we were very happy and we can’t wait to return 😄
