Thought we would try somewhere new for breakfast and as I read good reviews on Get Surrey, we went to the Hygge Cafe. It wasn’t that busy on a Monday morning but we had to wait about 50 mins for 2 cooked breakfasts. I saw 3 other tables come and enquire where their orders were, so maybe they were short staffed. Also when they made a smoothie the machine was so loud you couldn’t talk whilst it was grinding. There was no soap or towels to dry your hands in the toilet. The Farm Shop and Garden Centre are fabulous so would go back to them but probably not the cafe.

We arrived at 11:20 am with high hopes for an early Sunday lunch. Our food arrived at 12:30 pm. The veggie breakfast came with cold beans and bacon. The burger meal was cold and the chips had clearly been cooked some time before. The staff were struggling with either staffing or the cooker but no explanation was offered. Other customers were leaving prior to their food arriving.

Have been here before with no problems . Called in on way to visit a family member in hospital. Ordered food told there might be a wait . They had no sourdough bread so we were served cheese on toast on shop brought bread , bread not toasted and cheese on top not melted. Very disappointed. Will think twice before returning.

Why this place has a high rating is like the ussr to me. A puzzle, inside a ridle, wrapped in an enigma. I got a chocolate milkshake that would put to shame a milkshake served in a ore mine mess hall in the fringes of siberia. The chocolate’s contribution to the color of the milkshake was second only to the corporate billionaire’s contribution to the taxman. It was a diluted sugary abomination. There is a stone axe in the British museum dating back to hundreds of thousands of years ago. It was made by one of our more primitive ancestors and yet, that near ape of a man, had made the effort to go the extra mile while making it. He could’ve called it a day after 6 strikes on the stone, it would’ve done the job but he kept working on it. Archeologists believe that he did it because he wanted the axe to look nice and feel more ergonomic. In other words, he wanted to to make something he’d be proud of. I wonder how utter evolutionary epochs later, the person responsible for that milkshake, took a last look at it and went: yeah that’s alright.

My 60th birthday party in the function room on sat 12th April was absolutely excellent, I cannot thank Chris and his team enough for looking after us! Any issues were dealt with efficiently and effectively - not that there was any! Great value of money to use the function room and food provided was excellent.
