Great food and superb service. A nice friendly welcome from the lady behind the bar, and a really good friendly and efficient service to bring us to our table by one of the restaurant ladies. And an excellent service by our waitress Stacey. She was super-efficient, friendly and helpful. We chatted and she said how much she enjoyed working at The Hutt, what a great supporting family culture it was and how good the managers were to work for. This clearly showed in the excellent service we received, so a good job on the management for creating this culture. It’s reflective in the great service. This, and on top of the good food and warm atmosphere made our visit a really enjoyable one and I will look forward to coming back with my parents, Alan and Chris Wallis, when I’m next visiting. The lovely Cyan And Stacey looked after us today and I just HAVE to leave a 5* review because of how fantastic they were! From the moment we were greeted by Cyan to Stacey serving us and getting our bill - we were spoilt with the lovely conversation and incredible service! They’re great assets to the team - and we’re definitely going to come back soo!

The staff were wonderful! Stacey & Cyan were fantastic, they went out of their way to make our family celebration special, thank you for accommodating us and being so thoughtful ❤️

Very poor menu choice and at £15.50 for a mushroom pie, very expensive. Menu used to be great selection but not now. We were there for an evening meal which was served quickly but no-one ever asked if we'd like a dessert as they just concentrated on setting up for the next day. At 9.30pm we gave up on dessert and got the bill. Very poor Won't go again

Arrived at the hutt and was waiting to be seated for 15 minute when the pub itself was dead, ended up walking to the bar to find staff members on their phones and didn’t stop them when we was stood at the bar either. Portion sizes are very poor, considering it’s £15 a meal. Wait wasn’t terrible for food but after looking disappointed with the food the staff came to the table twice obviously my face told them I wasn’t happy but came to the table the second time with their phone in there hand. Will not be returning in a hurry or if ever.

The good: -beautiful building -dog friendly -nice enough staff The not so good: -overpriced -bland, tasteless, tepid food - poor service - gross washrooms

Great service and food. We didn't book a table but got a table in the bar area. The fish and chips were great and my daughters had the crispy chicken burger and cheese and bacon burger. Both were excellent. A good selection of beers are available.

We went to the Hutt for Sunday lunch. As soon as we pulled into the car park I was amazed. The Hutt is an amazing building with fabulous architechture. We were greeted warmly by the staff. The inside of the building is as amazing as the outside with lots of original features. Our food was beutifully presented and arrived hot. We all agreed that the food was delicious and definitely well worth the money. From arriving to leaving we all found that a visit to the Hutt was an excellent experience.

Lovely Guinness and cookies for the children. Well worth a stop after Newstead abbey. Would come again happily. Thanks.

Service at the bar slightly slow but only 1 member of staff on. Stacey always clearing glasses and making sure out table was clear.

Had a delicious British Slow-Cooked Steak & Ale Pie!

Went at dinner time, not a soul inside or any sight off staff. Sat to order and when the food come out i was shocked how it looked. It was definitely frozen chips / scampi. Never use to be like that.

My partner and I were served by both Stacey and Tom this evening and they were exceptional. They were so attentive and couldn't do enough for us. The food was delicious and start to finish we had a wonderful evening.

Lovely pub with lots of character. Friendly staff, great service and the Sunday lunch was tasty. With it being Green King, draft beer options are limited but perfectly good for a couple at lunch.

Incredibly helpful and friendly staff. (Also very discreet when asking if we wanted to order one or two scoops of ice cream for our child. 😂)

We enjoyed a lovely lunch at the Hutt. Very good menu which lived up to our anticipation when our chosen meals were served. We were welcomed to our table by Stacey who looked after us very well throughout. Stacey has a very good knowledge of the menu particularly with one our party requiring the GF choices.

Just popped to the Hutt for lunch with my two children (3 and 9). First time I've eaten there in some time and was very pleased with the food and the service from Stacey was excellent. Both children ate from the children's menu and had three courses. The food quality was amazing, not the usual plain rubbish you get on children's menus. My gammon was beautiful and I would go back for the chicken strip starter alone. Excellent all round.

We haven’t been to The Hutt for a while but thought we would try it. The service was very good. Stacey looked after us very well, she was polite, attentive and helpful. The food was slightly disappointing. The portion sizes were small - hardly any chips with the burgers. The children’s pizza didn’t taste good but the “Build your own sundae” was brilliant! Great value for children. The soft drinks were too expensive and the prices weren’t shown on the menus.

We have just returned home from a delicious lunch today at The Hutt in Ravenshead. The service we received today from Charlie was outstanding. He is an absolute credit to the company and as the face of Chef & Brewer they couldn’t wish for a more polite, friendly, helpful and exceptional member of staff. This is the second time we have been into The Hutt recently, and served by Charlie at the bar on both occasions, and I felt I had to post this review, well deserved five stars.

The staff are lovely and the drinks are really nice and refreshing, however I was disappointed in the lack of outdoor seating, it's a beautiful day in the UK for a change so I really fancied sitting outside but there were only 5 outdoor tables and plenty of space for more, unfortunately this meant we had to go elsewhere, but can't fault anything else, it's a beautiful pub.

My friend and I went to The Hutt for lunch, it was our first visit. We'd been to Newstead Abbey and it's perfectly situated for food afterwards. We were served by Stacey. Stacey was helpful, polite and friendly. It was a Greene King pub, but the food was better than any we'd previously tried. I had a special; crispy belly pork on a bed of basmati and wild rice with stir fried veg and my friend also had belly pork, but off the main menu served with potatoes, carrots and hispi cabbage, we both loved our meal. We'll definitely be going back and I'll be recommending it to our family of foodies.

Pre booked a table via the net arrived half hour early for pre meal drinks I was informed our table was given to a walk in customer, I was offered a table in the conservatory away from other patrons ( conservatory was unoccupied) drinks were served promptly, our party opted for the main meal ( no starters ) the meal was missing some components but we carried on eating. We were told that the staff was struggling due to an incident in the kitchen, after our meal we were asked if we would like to see the dessert menu We replied yes please. No one came for our order ( we had to go and find someone ) when eventually someone came over we declined the desserts and asked for coffee liquors they arrived without the alcohol, the relief manager came over with bottles of liquors and the alcohol was dispensed into the half drank coffee with apologies. I asked if I could give some feedback of the afternoons events, again apologies and the coffee liquors were deducted from our bill I understood the issues in the kitchen, overall the experience was good one , but from start to finish it was a calamity of errors ( we will visit again )

After being served a disgusting steak I was offered a free complimentary meal which was much better and made up for it I’m glad it was rectified

The staff are genuinely such lovely people, and the food and their speciality drinks are so good! Plus, the music and overall atmosphere are great. Can't fault this place.

Another great visit 5*****. The food is good, make sure you visit Charlie's bar. Tash is the heart of the Hutt she's been here so long and works wherever is needed. Stacey is new but works really hard as well and she is an absolute hoot. She will buy me a beer for writing this 😂.

We Had Sunday lunch, beef rib on the bone & turkey both of which was lovely & tender, Yorkshire puddings were very nice, the sausage in pigs in blankets very tasty, the service was excellent we were looked after by Alex & Tash who were very helpful & pleasant

We used to come here all the time but the food has really gone downhill. Disappointing as this place used to be our go-to for a nice meal.

Met 3 friends after work for dinner, as we’ve done times before over the last few years, table was pre booked weeks before for 4 people. The Hutts always been a welcoming, relaxed atmosphere with good food. On arrival place wasn’t busy but there were no staff to welcome/ seat us. When a staff member did approach us they struggled to locate our table on the computer, then tried to seat us at a very small table set for 3, stating they would find us another chair, where the other chair would have been placed would have meant it was touching another chair of the couple seated at the table behind. We asked for a different table and were asked to go get a drink at the bar whilst they located one. After approximately 10 minutes the same staff member came to us at the bar and asked if we were the party waiting for a table, it seemed like she couldn’t remember us from 10 minutes earlier, but we were showed to a much larger table with more room. Previous experience of the Hutt has been warm and efficient, last night was out of character for this venue and we were a little concerned about the rest of our visit. When seated however, we had a young male waiter called Charlie serve us, he smiled a lot and was warm in his manner, which could not be said for any of the other staff on duty. Charlie was attentive and hospitable and could not do enough for us. When we finished our meal and paid at the end of the evening we thanked him for his service, Charlie disclosed he had only been at the establishment for six days, thank goodness he has been employed into the team, because he is a real asset to the establishment. He definitely turned the experience of our visit around. Had he not been our waiter we probably would be looking at somewhere else to go closer to our workplaces to meet up in the future.

I booked a table for four receiving confirmation at time of booking and then as usual a reminder the day before. On arrival, I discovered my three friends standing at the reception, but no member of staff. They explained that they had been shown to a table set for three where an additional place would be set although space did not really allow. For an additional chair. The restaurant was not particularly busy so no reason for ‘squeezing’ us in. We were signposted to the bar where we waited to be served with no acknowledgement from bar staff that we were waiting even though there were not any other customers. Some ten minutes passed before being shown to a table, this time suitable for a group of four, where we shared our thoughts about how the rest of the evening may evolve based on our arrival. However, Charley was friendly, pleasant and smiled whilst taking our orders and bringing each course to our table. He clearly explained our menu options and ensured that dietary needs were met for one member of the group. I understand that Charley has been employed by The Hutt for just six weeks but what a positive role model for other staff. Although The Hutt is a convenient location for our meetings, we would have been prepared to source an alternative, given our arrival however Charley made such a difference to our evening. Management take note! Thank you Charley for making a difference and best wishes for your career in the hospitality sector.

Pea medley was wasn’t worth £13 odd payed for; the dish was not fresh; vegetables/ salad were spoiled and the sour dough bread was stale but surprisingly still used on the plate. The service wasn’t very welcoming either, so over all a bad experience.

The rudest front of house member I have ever met. Hadn't booked, so fair enough, but the attitude of her was disgusting. We grabbed a drink, sat down, only for the inexperienced lady to come over and tell us to leave, it was her table and she needed it, there was no reserve notice in place. There is a way to speak to a customer and she was lacking customer service skills. Get another job.

I have been to the Hutt often over the years and I'm happy to say I wasn't disappointed when I visited last week with friends ( we were celebrating my friends birthday). We had a three course meal and the food was fabulous and the service we received from Cyan and Sean was exceptional. We had a lovely evening. I would highly recommend to anyone, thank you so Much.

We had booked a meal for 6 and were greeted quickly by the friendly staff and shown to our table. The service was good and quick. The pub is steeped in history and is in a great area. The food was nice and the menu had a good varied choice. I chose off the Specials however for what sounded like a different meal and had the mini beef wellington, it certainly lived upto its name however and was more like an upside down beef pie with the tiniest bit of mash potatoes.. Nice but not was I expected at all.

We recently called in for your lunch offers (1 x 2 courses @ £16.50 and 1 x 3 courses @ £19.50). We also had 1 drink each at £5.65 and £3.70. Total £45.35. We paid by card. When got home we checked the bill and it was for £48.85. Was the extra an error or was it taken as a tip? On the receipt it also said EFT Grats £48.85. Not sure what this means. Would it have been the same price if we paid by cash? The food was lovely. Also, the toilet seats in the Ladies toilet need attention or changing, they are falling off.

Just go and enjoy a special treat 😋 while being treated special. A joy to be served a delicious coffee and cake with the utmost care 😋

Absolutely amazing evening spent at The Hutt 25/2/25 Cyan & Sean were the perfect hosts . We ate from the comforying, classic set menu . We all , myself and 3 friends, had 3 courses . Each arrived looking and tasting delicious. Great potion sizes . I can't remember the last time I ate 3 courses and thoroughly enjoyed each one so much ! Always love The Hutt and it definitely didn't disappoint. Thank you to Cyan, Sean and the chefs .

we hadn't been to the hutt in years so thought we would give it a go. we arrived for our meal, got seated straight away so that was all really postive. however, after being ignored while staff were chatting and polishing cutlery for the next 30-40 mins we left before even ordering any drinks or food. the service is terrible. we won't be going back.

Went last night 6pm, was fairly busy, but were still tables spare and we had booked weeks before. Basically the staff seated us, then forgot about us. Didn’t even come to take a drinks order let alone food order. Tried to get the attention of the staff whenever they passed but no-one seemed interested. They clearly had staff spare as there were atleast 2 of them by the entrance talking and polishing the cutlery it looked like. We got up and left after half an hour of waiting and they didn’t even say anything when we left as we walked right past them!

It has been too long since I came to The Hutt. I've never had a bad meal there and I love the layout and that you don't feel like you are sat on top of people. We arrived a little early today but despite this we were greeted immediately, seated moments afterwards and we really felt looked after. The staff were attentive throughout our meal without being an imposition, the surroundings and age of the building - albeit in great condition and the convenient proximoty to Newstead Abbey for walking off those delicious calories post meal; just makes the Hutt feel so very special. I noted they can seat 299 people but we were made to feel like the only customers there. I can't review without a mention to the team who work in the Kitchens. The food was prompt and delicious and arrived piping hot. With so many covers to service, that's impressive and shows the behind the scenes operations are slick and well organised. All of this for a reasonable cost. Highly recommend.

Called for lunch, food and service were amazing. Shaun looked after us and made sure everything was 100%. Brilliant !!

Apparently at 5.45 on A Tuesday, in January, we should have booked! The restaurant was empty but, we were assured, in a surly manner, all tables were booked. So we had to go in the bar. When the food came the chips were both cold and dehydrated. £6.45 for a lager shandy is a bit much. The meat was fine. When we left I counted 8 empty tables in the restaurant and I couldn’t see them all.

The young lady behind the bar today, was absolutely fantastic, I came in because I was having a hypo and my sugar levels were unsafe, the young lady behind the bar , saw i was in slight distress who helped me get my sugar levels back up. Thank you so very very much.

We had a lovely meal and the staff was polite and friendly as always x There was a couple of items not available as out of stock/ not delivered which was a shame.

Absolutely fantastic. First visit for us after being recommended by a friend. One of our party was very late due to the traffic but this was not an issue for the staff at all, we felt welcome. The food was absolutely amazing, my husband had pie and said its the best he has ever had and although I don't eat pies I have to say it definitely looked really appetising. Overall food was great, drinks were good, cleanliness excellent, staff were really friendly and helpful and the cost was good. Our new favourite pub to go to and we have already recommended to our family.

My husband and I visited today for Sunday lunch. The restaurant was cosy and the fire was on, lovely atmosphere on a cold wintery day. We had the beef ribs followed by sticky toffee pudding for dessert, and the food was delicious! The service was excellent too. We would happily return again to this lovely restaurant.

Visited the Hutt just after new year, really welcoming atmosphere, Was made to feel welcome from the moment we stepped through the door. Food was excellent, great choice and good value for money.

Had to wait to be seated all though there were plenty of tables free. Ordered meal x 2 ie Fish & chips and mushy peas and Gammon egg chips and peas. The meals came and the fish was so dark brown and greasy like it had been fried in dirty well used oil, chips lukewarm mush peas were cold and about two spoons full. Sorry i could eat that would have had a stomach ache . Swapped meal with a partner which was the gammon egg and chips , The gammon was pink and looked like it had been put on a griddle and taken straight off. When i cut it was raw. so had to send it back. So any body wanting to eat here please make sure the food is cooked . i will not be going there again The price was £30. not worth it

First time visiting this beautiful pub. Must say the lentil wellington was to die for, thank you Anders for the recommendation. We will definitely be coming back very soon.

Always great food and helpful staff. A little expensive but for the occasional meal that's okay. It would be nice if there were more dog friendly areas but sitting in the bar is fine with us!

A great place to be for drinks and food

Booked for our Christmas day lunch at the Hutt, it was our 1st ever Christmas dqt dining out & we weren't disappointed. Greeted by the new manager when we arrived, then she brought our welcome drinks to the table. Our server, Beth was vert attentive but not intrusive. My fillet was cooked to perfection. Well done to the Hutt., we will be booking again for next year

We came for a family festive meal today (a Sunday I might add) and the service we received was brilliant. Our hostess who looked after us was very attentive to our needs and from my observations she was very thorough with her services for all of her guests. Mia was her name and she was absolutely lovely, she even went out of her way to rectify a little mishap with our booking and ensured that our experience was the best that could be offered. As someone that has worked in the industry for over 5 years I definitely recommend her and hold her at a high standard. ❤️✨🫶 I’d recommend this place if you’re also one for relaxed atmosphere and quieter areas like myself.

Sorry to say but the food was not good had to send 3 meals out of 5 back as cold. Returned having been microwaved so Yorkshire pudding was like rubber. Portion size very poor. Service was hit and miss. Not a pleasant experience this time sorry to say

I went to the Hutt my first time. We had a great time our waiter Anders was so helpful funny polite and professional. Thank you for making our visit fun. We were very awkward 😅 well I was. The food was amazing 👏 thank you to the chefs, John and Garath, and thank you for swopping my Beef Wellington starter because it had gravy on it. Even though it said gravy on the menu. That was incredibly decent of you. We would highly recommend you any time Have a fab Christmas. I love the crazy table 😜

Our first visit, the food was exceptional and the service warm and friendly, as was the atmosphere. Special mention to the chefs who accommodated one of our party changing her meal at service. Also to the young gentleman who took our orders, he was polite and patient despite our party being particularly difficult over our choices for meals. Will definitely visit again well worth the 60min trip from south derbyshire.

Always a nice atmosphere in the historic building. Asked for a 2 seater table in the window, told it was booked. Given a table for 4 next to it. Slight mix up in ordering, but when the meal came, it was okay but nothing special. Nobody came to the seats we had requested during the hour we were there.

We come here every year when I am visiting family as the food is consistently excellent and well portioned, with plenty of clearly marked allergen options. Having a dog friendly area is a big plus.

We were asked twice if we had any allergies, etc, which was good. We had a main and a couple of cask ales. The pork belly was delicious. Steak pie was delicious, too. We were seated near a young family, baby cried, which isn't really what you expect at 6.45pm onwards.... dimmed lights, candle on table.... However, we understood that people have different agendas. Service was good. Staff polite and welcoming. I have been going to The Hutt for a while now with family or with friends, and it has always been lovely.

Excellent service, as someone who has a gluten allergy it is extremely wonderful to have such a choice of dishes. And such delicious dishes too Will definitely be back

Chicken strips starter and fish and chips were ok. Squid was dry and rubbery. Signature burger was very poor quality and relatively expensive. Burger itself was tough and generally poor and the extra ingredients portion of marinated beef was minimal. Service fine. Beer good

Nice cosy atmosphere and a reasonable choice of food. I had the fish & chips which was okay. I ordered a side portion of scampi and bread & butter for extra £2.99 and got 4 pieces of scampi and half a slice of B&B.

Staff are very good, food good apart from G.F option, ..average. New G.F menu not as good as old menu.

£15 for this pork roast (I'd just moved the pork to my partners plate before this photo). Hardly any gravy, so was the driest roast ever. The food wasn't hot, just luke warm. The portions REALLY need to be reviewed. We've both left absolutely starving, not full up after you'd expect having a Sunday roast! Not enough bookable seating in the 'dog area' in the bar. We were told they were fully booked up but there were empty seats all around us in the bar, so I'm not sure why these weren't offered to us and were just told the really small circular table was the only one they had? Im heavily pregnant so leaning over a low tiny table to eat was going to be so uncomfortable. I heard other people mention they were unhappy with the seats they were put in. Again, there were empty seats they could have been moved to! In the end, I asked the lady behind the bar if we could move to another, unreserved, table and she let us, so our seating was sorted and then imagine our disappointment when our tiny portion of roast came out 🤣 I wish we would have left. Going out to eat in the current climate should feel like a treat, and you should leave feeling happy and full up, not having to nip to the shop on the way home for more food!

The food and service was spot on. The food came out piping hot, the steak was cooked to perfection and the salmon on the special board was delicious. Thank you we will be coming back as regulars.

Lunch at the Hutt , Saturday routine. Has smothered chicken and chips. Was fantastic. Chicken tasty and the sauce makes it really exceptional. You can have bacon, I prefer not. As usual staff polite , new Manager Jo very nice.

Been going to the hutt with friends and family for years. Todays experience was sadly disappointing. Started with the soup which seemed very watered down lacked flavour. Not much bread with it. I had the gammon massive plate for not much food. My husband had pie which seemed all pastry The apple pie was so sloppy it wasn't very tasty at all. Not much choice from the menu like there use to be. It use to be simple pub classics but it seems it's getting a bit out there now. Sadly won't be visiting again.

Sunday lunch , roast pork. Mine arrives at best, warm ish. Dads was same but he was happy to eat. A waitress did take mine and being a fresh meal. A hot one… so it can be delivered to your table hot?? Two pieces of pork… tiny bit of crackling.. watery veg… at £14.99 per head this is NOT good value for money . And others were £17 +… where do you get these prices from? Won’t return ever. Best part?? The building itself …

Lovely food but very slow service as large groups seemed to be prioritised . The special chocolate salted caramel tart was delicious but a slither at £7.99 with no ice cream / cream very expensive .

Popped in for breakfast on Sunday morning after our walk & met the new manager, Joanne. It's a lovely old building, the service was spot on & Joanne kept the coffee flowing (always a winner) the full English was lovey & piping hot. We will definitely be back the next time that we are in the area.

Lovely food would have given 5 stars but couldn't have my dessert because they were running low on cream! What restaurant runs out of cream! Brilliant otherwise would recommend just dont expect desert .
