Hungry Horse - Weathervane in Stoke-on-Trent

Had quite a disappointing experience today. Wanted to ignore the bad reviews and try a hungry horse as we’d tried other branches and enjoyed. Unfortunately our sides were cold and took ages to be replaced by the time they had done so everyone had finished their meals. The salmon was rubbery and we didn’t eat it. Overall the food doesn’t feel fresh and wasn’t impressive. One of the waitresses chewing gum while serving food. Guy on the bar was nice and assistant manager refunded the two meals we had problems with but definitely won’t be returning.

Stayed on an overnight while travelling to Alton Towers. The rooms are a little outdated but clean and comfortable. The staff were really friendly. We ate dinner at the restaurant, which was nice, there are some good and affordable options for families and they do special deals every night but because it’s also a bar, it is very loud.

Long day after Alton towers. We arrived a few mins early. Table for 9 was ready soon after. Ordered at the bar. Food was with us within 15 mins. They even had a quizz night . Fantastic

**SHOCKING** sharp, hard plastic found in child's ice cream...luckily my child didn't eat it and pulled it out of his mouth and said mummy what is it! Reported to manager who said its not broken off the tub so must have been when it was produced/ manufactured....they'll look more carefully when serving the ice cream. Be aware the same tub of ice cream will still be in use in the pub at the moment.

This place is a great place to have a drink and a lovely meal. You always get a big meal & the staff make you welcome.

We visited here Friday night 11th April for a night away from the kids for our anniversary via a gift we’d received through virgin experience day gift voucher as it was the perfect location so we weren’t too far incase we were needed. To begin with it took a small amount of time for someone to appear to check us in as there’s no buzzer/bell to get attention. We were then given our key and pointed where to go.. room was as expected after reading reviews. Only flaw was a bit of mould on the bathroom ceiling. Bed was a tolerable comfiness. We noticed you could order food to the room. So being as we rarely get time alone and neither are the type to want to socialise we gave it a go.. we ordered at 16:37 our mains were with us within 15 minutes.. all good. Food was 2/5 stars. We then waited a bit (not having done this before) expecting within so long someone would come up to see if we’d finished/fetch our desserts we’d ordered as you would say in a restaurant but had nothing. So we ordered a cup of tea thinking it might trigger the dessert around 17:48, cup of tea arrived nothing else. asked the person if they could send our desserts and if they minded removing the plates from our main ‘I’ll let the kitchen know for you’ waited again for an hour and still nothing. Went to the desk and asked who we assume was the manager if we could have them and around 19:07 we finally received them. So a good nearly 3 hours after ordering… I know it fells like a silly complaint on behalf of our laziness really but if a service is offered/advertised then surely there should be some sort of routine in place to follow? If this was someone in the room with difficulties for getting around they couldn’t be up and down chasing for their food especially when it’s stairs only access. During breakfast there was a number of dirty glasses on the tray for the orange/apple juice. This was noticed and they were removed but again this should have been done prior to opening the doors for the guests to come eat?

Disappointing visit with my partners steak under cooked and being very rare! Cutlery was greasy, as was most of the cutlery we could see and had to wipe clean with our servettes!

Price and offers are excellent to which I expected a compromise in quality but I was wrong. Food was excellent and I'd like to mention Lewis. His customer service was second to non. Thank Lewis and all the staff, the service and food was spot on.

We stayed here for two nights this week whilst visiting Alton towers for a break. The hotel itself is cheap and cheerful, exactly what we were looking for. Breakfast was included in our stay - thanks booking.com. The room was clean and quite dated but suited our needs, and for the price was perfect. The food at the attached hungry horse was okay and the restaurant a good size. Easy to use when using the hotel. Parking is adequate for the site and sits across from local amenities. The lady who checked us in and served us throughout our stay deserves a special mention. I believe her name was Becca. She was very friendly, always happy to help and seemed like she really enjoys her job. Thanks for a great stay, we’ll be sure to book again on our next trip to Alton towers.

Came in for breakfast with the girlfreind and my brother, who are fussy eaters. Was served at the bar by a lady called Ellie and made welcome by Roby, was very understandable with adjustments on the meals and food was 10/10 very kind staff

Millie Ann was a very pleasant lady she brought our food asked if everything was OK. Great service.

Food was ok but waiting to order food from the bar is really bad it took that long we had to rush our food as the table we booked was also booked again at 6 we arrived at 4.30 by time food came it was time to go not a good experience need to improve the bar service.

Our new place to go out for a family meal. Always had great tasty food. Mixed grill was beautiful and the staff are excellent.

Just had a lovely meal at the Hungry Horse bear Meir Park, the meal itself was very tasty and the staff very friendly especially Millie Anne. The interaction between ourselves and Millie was lovely and easy with plenty of laughs.

Food and service was great as always. Rooms are a little tired, but clean and comfortable. It's in a great location and is perfect for families.

The visit as a whole were enjoyable, the food came out quickly and mostly enjoyable apart from the chicken tikia masalas were over cooked but apart from that definitely could not fault the rest of the food. They atmosphere were enjoyable and busy.

Go for meals here quite often & never been disappointed lovely friendly staff one in particular Bailie, so lovely when ordering & manners go a long way to me.

Absolutely awful no other words. We went for my mother in laws birthday and it was completely ruined. Rude staff when ordering our food kept interrupting me and clearly wasn't listening to our order which I explained twice. Consequently my partners meal was completely wrong which we had to send back..no excuses no apology just a 25 minute wait for her meal which she then had to eat on her own as we'd finished. I wish they had got my meal wrong as the burger combo sizzler I ordered was inedible. I asked for my steak rare, it resembled a grey lump of flavourless mush. The chicken wings were flavourless beige. The burger was unseasoned on a stale bun with wilted brown lettuce. Also I witnessed some jobsworth absolutely losing it at a couple of kids that were running up and down the pub, not the best thing, but you expect it at a so called family pub and if they were my kids I'd be livid. We will not be returning to this venue. Its a shame as my inlaws are regulars and go for Xmas.

Drove half an hour for the pool table and didn't have one but online it said it did. I asked for medium rare steak and it was burnt like a ginger in Dubai. Came for a Sunday dinner on Sunday for the deal... Guess what was out of stock 🤷🏻‍♂️. Would not recommend at all

Last year I popped in. 👎 bad with attitude Because they don't listen to the customer Properly. If you complain to the manager He suddenly has a bad attitude and always blames the company that he works for. 🤔 BUT IT WASN'T THE COMPANY THAT DIDN'T LISTEN TO THE CUSTOMER . ? Absolutely dreadful Christmas lunch we spent around £500 for our party and we're given £58 in compensation, I think we should have had a full refund really nothing positive to say very poor quality food obviously reheated in a microwave, the pigs in blankets we're not cooked properly, I wouldn't dare take them home for the dogs ,as for the roast potatoes shrivelled and dry ,and there wasn't any mash ,probably a mercy to be honest, least about the starter and dessert the better.The service staff did there best and were attentive and apologetic. It's not like it's just a regular Sunday lunch, it's once a year and you're charging a premium price

Just had Christmas Dinner at the weathervain with family and I have to say what an outstanding effort from the kitchen the food was excellent and the floor and bar staff did a great job looking after us thank you and Merry Christmas

We came to stay at the Weathervane to visit family. We had an evening meal with family. 2 people had mixed grill. The gammon was cremated. Breakfast was all dried up. Bacon was cremated and egg dried up. The room was adequate, the fan in the bathroom was on all the time. On asking staff if it goes off? She said yes at 10pm. The fan was on all through the night keeping us awake all night. It looks like the last guest tried to stuff the fan with toilet paper on which I told the staff about. The sound on the TV went off and we reported it. On reflection the staff went out of her way to replace the TV and couldn’t do enough. All staff were very friendly. If we stayed again as it is in a great location, we would need to be assured we were in a different room where you cannot hear a bathroom fan going all night.

Good sized portions of food offering good value for money. The steak & ale pie was full of tender meat. The roast turkey had plenty of vegetables with it.

MASSIVE SAFETY ISSUE. I can't complain about general accomadation and food at the pub, is what it is for my price. However the inner door handle in my bathroom snapped on me leaving me stuck in the bathroom. Luckily I had my phone on me and rang the bar and the two ladies working were very prompt in releasing me. If I didn't have my phone on my it would be a different story and I honestly don't know how I could have got out of there. Gross negligence in letting this happen.

Terrible food. Had a quadzilla burger and it was like the cow lived it's remaining days wandering the Sahara desert. Fresh orange juice 2 weeks out of date. No apology nothing. Last time I'll be in there for food. Use to be really good for a quick decent meal here. Not anymore

Nice atmospheric pub, good beer and tasty food

It was ok. Staff was a bit offish and even though the place was empty the staff slammed the drinks on the table. She didn’t say what the drinks were or thanks for the order nothing.. Same member of staff bought the food, she didn’t say say I’ve got such n such. As she walked away I said excuse me we have no sauce or cutlery and she just pointed and said just over there you get your own. Would of given 4 stars on review but she made it unnecessary and felt as if she didn’t give a toss

I try to be fair we won't be going back again. I tried to use the gents, but they were horrible, and there were no locks on the cubicle doors floors wet Come on, guys, if you want people to use your restaurant at least try

Was thinking of trying somewhere else this was a see if it was better than previous couple of weeks where things were not up to scratch. It was lovely!! Hot well cooked bacon (as requested) so will be back next week.

Standard pub grub at good prices. Would have been 5 stars but a bit of a wait as only one bar staff also serving food. They need an app.

My friend and I stayed over for 1 night on Friday 25th October,we stayed in a twin room !!! I can not fault the staff ! This review isn’t about the staff who were absolutely brilliant ,and professional! Can’t fault the beds they were comfy and clean bedding ! The thing that is wrong with this place is it’s tired and it needs an absolute overhaul ,the bathroom,has mould around the bath a leaking shower head ! the bathroom door was stiff and made a dreadful noise when opening and closing it ! The net curtain looked like they had been in a tumble drier and were so crumpled !!!!!The actual curtains were not hung correctly,crumbling paint on the windows ,dreadful condensation !!!! We always sleep with the window open ! The cleaning regime is very lacking !!! The television was absolutely filthy,dust everywhere,not pleasant at all ! Never again !

The breakfast was well priced but slightly overcooked. The fried eggs were all firm and not runny, and the sausages chewy.

Very nice food and good deals on the drinks but the thing that makes me want to come back is the staff. The bar staff were incredible very attentive and always smiling. Some of the best customer service skills I’ve received ever I believe there names where Becca and Beth.

Had a wonderful time at The Weathervane! The pub has a great atmosphere with a fantastic selection of drinks and food. Special thanks to the gorgeous Nikki for her friendly and attentive service—she made the visit even better. Highly recommend this place and will definitely be back!

Have been a lot of late as having work done on my house and have no complaints. However my visit this week was totally different, the food was just ok but the tables were filthy and when not walking on carpet my feet were sticking to the floor.

Food good, atmosphere ok but on a personal level, hate being called a guy!! Seems all the staff are trained to welcome you with, hi GUYS, everything ok with your meal GUYS, GUYS this, GUYS that, it REALLY annoys me.

We stopped here to grab a quick bite to eat. It's super easy to get to just off the A50. The staff were incredibly friendly and Brett made the service extra special. Good grub.

A good price, clean place, open late on a Sunday with plenty of space and we all enjoyed the food. There are good vegetarian and vegan options.. I wish I'd found it a day earlier tbh

A delightful visit following a busy day at Alton towers. Baillie and Lewis gave exceptional customer service going above and beyond during our meal. Food was delicious and came out in a reasonable time. We will definitely be returning!

Stayed during a visit to Alton Towers and rooms were clean enough maybe needed updating or a lick of paint but adequate for somewhere to sleep, all staff were polite and helpful food was lovely i would definitely return as the staff were amazing and made you feel welcome and like a member of family

I've been a regular customer at the weathervane for some years but haven't attended much since the revamp and been told that it's wasn't as good as before. I took my family for a meal and the place was busy but the food came in very good time and the food was absolutely fantastic and from the quality and service we received I would highly recommend it

Went for breakfast, really enjoyed it. Lots of options and very affordable. Fruit was fresh and food was hot. We were served by a man called Brett and he was very friendly and helpful.

Avoid. All was wrong. Rude staff, especially waitress called Bailey. The manager at least explained some things however not in a very friendly manner either. The food arrived with one main meal missing. No explanation not even apology. Had to chase it ourselves with uninterested staff. Customer service doesn't exist here. Ruined our day. Will never go back. Disgusted with staff behaviour. One of the worst hungry horse pubs.

Came here for just a meal on 16.03.24. We had a lovely server who I believe was called Baille, she had a great conversation with my stepsister about her Stitch jumper. All food was really well prepared and tasted great. The place was nice and clean and the decor was super cool, love the phones on the wall.

Seriously overcooked peas AGAIN. Peas only need 3 minutes not half an hour.

We popped in for a bite to eat as we were in the area. The pub was clean and there was plenty of parking. The portions were more generous compared to other Greene king pubs we go to. The sweet nachos were very greasy and I would not recommend them, although I think they are being taken off the menu soon anyway. We sat in a booth which could fit 6 easily. The only thing that put us off was a very loud woman who decided to take a phone call but felt the need to shout her conversation. Would return when in the area

food average! after a 30m wait, (only 8 customers in there!) OK until a couple were allowed to bring Staffy Bull dog into restaurant. Not very hygienic. And a bicycle covered in mud!

Basic pub grub, nothing to shout about. Selection and prices are OK. Never stayed in the Hotel.

I go for breakfast, for the price, it's really good, genuinely, and I recommend it to anyone who's willing to listen.

Waited an hour and a half for food after ordering upon going to bar to ask where food was to be told the order had not been put through system at all and would we like to re order and wait again no thank you terrible service wint be visiting again

Rooms are absolutely Fantastic great value for money also the bar / restaurant is a fantastic place to take the family… I got served by Bethany-Jade and Brett who were both Fantastic hosts. Couldn’t thank them both enough for the excellent experience.

Came here with a rugby team on tour. The staff were brilliant and coped with all the shenanigans that such an occasion brings. Good honest food and quality beer. That said, the rooms were getting a little tired, but they were clean and perfect for our needs as a base of operations. Would have no trouble staying here again or suggesting to anyone as a clean and affordable alternative when staying in this neck of the woods.

We popped into The Weathervane for a quick early evening meal. Areas of the pub were cordoned off with tacky plastic chain link and we were not able to find a seat where we could comfortably sit quietly and talk as we ate. The food was delivered and we were unceremoniously told that we had to fetch our own cutlery. I thought we had come to a restaurant not Morrisons cafe. Considering that this is a pub chain ,I would recommend that future patrons go to The Hem Heath pub which is also a Hungry Horse/Green King pub where you will be served with alot more care and attention. Currently after being here about a half hour, we have not been asked how our food was. At least at Morrisons cafe ,members of staff will ask you if your food is OK. Sadly, as I have eaten here previously in days gone by, this venue is not what it was. Disappointed 😞

We needed an affordable place to stay in Stoke whilst visiting family. The Weathervane was reasonable and well situated for both the family and for the city centre. The accommodation was clean, the staff were friendly and very helpful. The breakfast was worth the price. The rooms are basic but are well priced and were more than adequate for what we needed.

Double room for the night, business trip, booked at last minute, room good, nice full length bath. Reception service on arrival was limited and waiting to find manager. Food of evening meal not that good, steak n ale pie not recommended, virtually no meat, the two small pieces, one was just grissle, pastry ok, gravy was tasty. Lasagne was ok, thin in depth, not much meat in layers, very cheesy which was best bit. Didn't stay in morning to try breakfast, chose to do a sausage n egg m muffin over the road. :(

We called in this morning for breakfast. We were greeted by a very helpful, polite and well presented young lady. She directed us to a seat and took our order promptly. The food was excellent and presented accordingly. This was our first experience at this establishment and as a result of the excellent service we received today will definitely going back. Thank you
