As always this is the place we always call in for coffee ,cake or a gluten free bacon sandwich and today was as good as always , always get greeted by Jenny who is always pleased to see you , today we had coffee and cake , the gluten free victoria sponge was lovely and so was the sticky toffee pudding cake. Have visited here a few times, never been overly satisfied with the service but their drinks selection is decent and the food is fine. Today’s visit however has to be the worst. A little on the busier side but not full yet all the staff seemed stressed and service was disjointed. Waited over 20 minutes for a ham and cheese toastie, had to remind them as they had forgotten. Very unprofessional lots of shouting and crashing about in the back.

Love coming here, come on the regular and tried an iced cappuccino with honey comb (was stunning made by Emily) will be back! Value is great and atmosphere is lovely 🩷

Staff are very welcoming and allowed us to have a coffee in even though it was near closing time (above & beyond on customer service). The wonderful demi let us try their pumpkin spiced latte with hazelnut syrup for a lesser price (one of the best coffees we've ever tasted) and that is a customer service superstar, hats off to you demi. Will definitely be a regular customer at this gem of a coffee shop.

The food was good. But racist people. They decided not to give us (brown skin) proper cups. Said they don't have large cups. Where as the customer just before us got a large cup and also the two ladies after us. We all pay the same price for the items....so try to serve all Ur customers with equal respect. The lady at the till didn't even look at us before taking the order and ignored us until we spoke to her for our order.

Fantastic friendly staff, excellent service & very generous as the manager gave my mum a teapot & the tea to go with it. Highly recommended.

Such a beautiful place. I had never had a grilled cheese sandwich with tomato soup and had always wanted to try it. Safe to I’m glad my first time was here because it was amazing!

My favourite place to go when I'm visiting Hanley. The food is always freshly cooked and very good quality 👌 The staff are extremely friendly, helpful and jolly 😊 If for any reason you forget your glasses and can't read the menu then I would recommend asking for the audio menu! You won't be disappointed 😁 Thank you ladies x

I visited this place because it came on top of the list when I searched for the good coffee shop near me. The coffee was OK but they asked me to leave 10 minutes before the closing time which was 16:00. You can find good enough coffee everywhere these days. It doesn't have to be this one if you want to have a nice time.

We only went in for a latte , brilliant . Accessibie toilets and staff will accomodate no problem with a ramp to get up and down a few steps. Very friendly. Extra room downstairs with toilets if theres a large group etc. I also noticed some charging plug sockets under some seating. We would definitely visit again.

Due to convenience, me and my friend come here often to meet up. Today, I ordered a sandwich, halfway through I found a hair in my food. When I told the staff, very quietly in my part as I didn't want to draw any attention to the situation, the staff replied LOUDLY that both staff had blonde hair. Which wasn't true as she had dark roots. I didn't appreciate that first of all, she didn't apologise. Second of all, it felt like she was insinuating that it was ours? The hair was INSIDE the sandwich, additionally I wear hijab so my hair is covered? I'm not sure what she was trying to imply. This could have been handled better if they owned up to their mistake and apologised. I am disappointed as we used to come here often. Alas never coming here again, very poor customer service, overpriced food and the inability to take accountability. P.S. please feel free to check your CCTV.

Sam and the team at the Esquires coffee house are an exceptional bunch. I think iv just found my new breakfast joint- alongside my bestest breakfast buddy.🥰🥰💯🔥☝️☕☕ Would highly recommend this place for both service and value. P.s The music 🎶 got me wiggling my way out of there. Thanks folks. Gus

My favourite café in the town; great menu including seasonal specials. The Ham & Cheese Melt, made fresh on the premises by Jenny, is just sublime. I also recommend the milkshakes. The staff are helpful and friendly.

I'm on a strict diet, even though the menu is very apertising I couldn't really have anything, so Emily said she'd make me an omelette OMG it was amazing I would highly recommend the girls are happy and very cheerful this is my new go to place

We have visited on many occasions now and have never been disappointed. This place is such a refreshing change to other cafes in the area. Fab relaxed, down to earth atmosphere and top quality food and ingredients cooked to perfection. I would definitely say today's bacon roll was the best I have devoured. Our little retreat when we have a minute away from work or kids!!!

Jenny and Demi made us feel very welcome. There's a lovely atmosphere and we were able to comfortably set up our laptops to work on, there are plenty of handy plug sockets and free WiFi available. The food was served promptly and is delicious - I highly recommend the mushroom melt. I'd also suggest checking out the great selection of cakes available for an afternoon pick me up, there were plenty to choose from - it was difficult to decide so me and my friend opted to pick two and share both - chocolate tiffin and creme brulee cheesecake, both of which were lovely. There's also a wide variety of refreshments available so you're bound to find a new favourite! We experienced friendly service throughout the afternoon and look forward to a return visit.

Had a great lunch at Esquires in Hanley. They did the most amazing milkshakes for my 2 children . A really nice place for a light lunch.

had a baked potato with pulled pork, the jackets were of a generous size and the filling was even more , you definately get what you pay for here, the latte came with a leaf design made by ashleigh , I would definately reccommend this coffee shop the atmosphere is all happy and cheerful the girls always have a smile on their faces and are always ready for a chat which is a lot different than your other corporate coffee shops . If you want cheering up or just want a coffee then this is the place to go nothing is touch trouble

Absolutely filthy place..didn't know who were staff and who were customers.. there's a downstairs that looks dark n dingy. The only good thing was great coffee. Will not be returning... EVER

The food and the coffee were both excellent but the overly loud group of staff standing around the till shrieking was off-putting and the light shades above where we were sat were absolutely filthy dirty, covered with a heavy deposit of dust. In fact the whole place looks uncared for and dirty, small maintenance jobs haven't been done etc. I shouldn't be surprised really it basically matches the rest of Hanley.

Lovely place and continues to be the place we go for coffee and cake as they usually have a good selection of gluten free cakes and sandwiches Always very helpful and really look after you

We have frequented this coffee house on a few occasions and are always very pleased with the service we receive. However on this occasion I absolutely disgusted with the way a member of the team spoke to an older member of the public. The lady had come in to use the toilet and not purchased any items. I can understand that this is not appropriate and is a luxury for paying customers only. This was not approached in a respectful manner: "Hi, can I get you anything?" "I was just trying to use the toilet" "It's for customers only, it does say on the door outside if you read the notice, it is in English" This attitude and behaviour I find rude and assumptive. The lady may have not been able to read or may have additional needs. Which again, I appreciate that it is for paying customers. However the way in which the lady talked at was absolutely appalling. If it was a group of intimidating people or somebody who appeared to have dishonest intentions, this approach have been warranted. This was unnecessarily rude This member of staff was loud and disruptive, no professionalism or courtesy for those around them. We like to avoid big chains to keep the independent companies thriving and after this experience we will not be returning. I find the irony of questioning an older ladies ability to read when someone is unable to spell 'cutlery' correctly.

Top service its my 3rd time there and they are so polite and friendly and the food and drinks are delicious Can’t wait for my next visit and to see Jenny and team .

First time I went I felt the staff were too busy chatting to serve me. Second time I thought to go in again to give another chance however it happened again, waiting at the counter no one awkowledged me, they rather chat umogst themselves and stock the fridge whilst I waited for a couple of minutes.. Decided to leave and spend my money elsewhere. Won't be going again.

Dropped in for a quick coffee after some stressful Christmas shopping and the atmosphere in the shop was awesome! They were signing Xmas songs 🎄🎄 all very friendly and especially Jenny! Watched her help two elderly ladies out of the shop and even got a free cake 🎂

Staff were very friendly and accommodating when ordering quite a large number of drinks to take away. I particularly would like to thank Emily for the hot chocolate, which I asked for in a specific way, and it was perfect!

Slow service, my friend's poached eggs had rock hard yolks, my other friend's eggs benedict were ice cold, my tuna melt was nice though so 2 stars I guess 🤷‍♀️ The Christmas specials are overpriced too.

Pleasant staff. I was a bit specific about how I wanted my coffee - they listened and gave me exactly what I asked for. Coffee was good BTW. Eggs benedict was OK: neither great nor bad. Nice atmosphere and a proper local café, rather than a corporate front for a bank.

Me and my best friend have been camped out here the last few days during deadline season for uni and i can not reccomend this place more. The staff are so friendly and check up on us regulary. the coffee is delicious and is great at sustaining the caffiene addiction. and the general atmosphere is so cozy and comfortable. If you want a good place to study with great staff and great coffee I can definitley reccomend

I went for some lunch with my mum today for the first time at esquires but the shop looked full. A lady came over to us and found us a nice table hidden just round the corner to sit. Very polite when taking our order and kindly helped me to create an esquires member card for my next visit.The food and coffee was amazing.The displays had variety of fresh sandwiches and cakes. We had a tuna club sandwich a gingerbread late and a candy cane hot chocolate. Presentation was amazing and came within minutes. . My mum struggles with her balance and walking but we was close by to a disabled toilet that was handy for us. Amazing experience.

I love coming to esquires, all the staff are lovely they are bubbly, attentive and helpful; I often bring residents from work for a hot drink or a bite to eat and they love it too the staff always make time and effort to make us happy and comfortable. I really enjoy an almond milk latte or a peppermint hot chocolate and I have too many favourites when it comes to the food. I visit at least once a week sometimes more.

Dirty tables when walked in waited ages get served even though 2 was stood behind the counter and no acknowledgement when being severed. Place was also quiet and when sat drinking our coffess one female staff stood behind the counter biting her nails 😏

It was the worst experience I've ever had in a restaurant, cafe, or coffee shop....Rude, ignorant staff...Stood there talking loudly to each other disregarding the customers that pay money to drink, eat and sit in there...Shouting at each other across the shop. When I was served I was scowled at by the young girl who works in there....Then later the staff sit at a table and were easily the loudest people in the shop. One (older one) was continiously tapping an object deliberately against the table. Very annoying....If I was manager I'd sack all the staff and start again because the current state of play is inexcusable....Its a joke.

Greeted with staff singing Christmas songs very poorly, no real organisation seen very loud staff in a short work area. No need for this this is for customers to have a drink ext and relax. Not listen to loud staff singing. Would i visit or recommend NO

Excellent latte, very tasty vegan sausage roll and carrot cake, so why only 3 stars? The answer is something which seems to be almost standard in UK cafes/restaurants namely an almost complete lack of table clearing and cleaning by staff. Customers, myself included, found it necessary to shuffle dirty cups, plates etc onto another empty table in order to find somewhere they could sit down which is very off-putting. I sat upstairs so can't comment on what the area downstairs was like but I suspect it was similar. This is a shame because as initially stated, the food and drink I had was good Cafe seemed to either be under staffed, hence the dirty tables,or the staff they do have need to address this issue otherwise they will not get repeat business.

The world isn’t always kind and that’s a lesson to be learned but what isn’t expected is to visit this cafe and be harassed and shouted at by a staff member. Reducing young SEN adults to become mute and then be berated for being unable to speak in this highly stressful situation is a disgrace. One was wearing a disability lanyard. But no person should be spoken to and harassed by staff as this small group were. Calling security on them as some of the group felt unable to purchase a drink was highly inappropriate and security also agreed that the cafe staff member was being absurd. However, this is not a very nice experience for anyone. One of the group has never been able to go out without parental support so this has certainly disrupted the progress she was making. The staff member in question needs to be retrained in how to interact with all customers. A bit of training on SEN and disabilities, would be extremely helpful to others that dare to enter the cafe. I do hope the CEO of Esquire’s coffee shops takes notice in this matter. I will email directly and expect a public apology on this matter. Some things need to be addressed and used as a valuable lesson a customer facing company, that there are consequences for disability discrimination.

Will not be back… Member of staff was aggressive and confrontational with a young customer today. The young girl was sat with her two friends who had bought from the cafe, but the girl happened to be drinking water that she had with her. The staff member humiliated her by shouting at her for bringing a drink in to the shop. Member of staff then shouted out to my friend asking “ would you ever consider taking a drink into Wetherspoons that you hadn’t bought in Wetherspoons?!” Not even comparable… The young customer looked like she was going to cry… I told her not to worry and that the member of staff could have handled it a lot differently. In fact, it was bullying behaviour and totally unacceptable. The young girl also mentioned she was autistic. My son is autistic and I would hate to think anyone would have spoken to him in that manner.

Came here this morning and got served by Jenny, she was very welcoming and down to earth. a good sense of humour and someone you feel you could have a giggle with, enjoyed the whole experience at this place and the coffee was amazing, would definitely recommend you come here its a really cool place and staff are welcoming and lovely☺️

Enjoyed a family breakfast this morning with my daughter and my grandchildren we arrived early and before opening time. We were invited in and order taken by jenny and her friendly staff. Have always enjoyed the coffee from here and grandson loved his breakfast. Great place friendly atmosphere see you soon.

I ordered oatcake with chicken today and ate only chicken and tomatoes. Lettuce was not fresh and brown, avocado looked fine but I didn't liked the taste. Coleslaw was served with old mayonnaise. Expected more for £8.

I came in today and was greeted by a Lovley young lady, she was efficient and very kind. The food was amazing and the coffee was wonderful. Would definitely recommend ☺️

Serving staff should be more friendly and welcoming to all customers not just regulars and OAPs.

Attend my book club bi monthly here, and staff are always wonderfully polite and helpful. I absolutely love their banana milkshakes with whipped cream 😍
