Hungry Horse in Cheshire West and Chester

We stayed in Cheshire Oaks and this place was close to where we stayed that did a full English breakfast so naturally went here. The queue for ordering was quite busy and the one server on the bar was really coping well considering she was the only one available to take orders. I ordered our breakfasts and for the price, you really can’t complain at all but they really could do with more staff. We waited over forty minutes for a full English breakfast and scrambled eggs on toast. When we had it, the one server apologised for the wait but again, no fault of his own as he was also the only one serving and there were tables ranging from two people to eight people. The food wasn’t hot but wasn’t stone cold either but like other tables, drinks were finished before having breakfast. The only thing the place lacks is staff. If the two on breakfast today, had some support, even just an extra pair of hands, there would be more support not only to the staff working but to the benefit of the customer too.

Honestly one of the worst places I’ve eaten in years! Firstly had a plate of food given to me, then taken away as wrong table, no big issue here happens. Then our food came out, wish they hadn’t bothered! There is nothing ‘Epic’ about the Epic Chicken New Yorker… I have attached the photo to showcase just how bad it was. I’m astounded that a chef has taken a look at this and given the green light for it to be served! Cooked within an inch of its life, looked similar to when you forget about something in the oven and end up binning it! Was rock hard, ate less than half. Couldn’t even be bothered complaining as the poor waitress had already had 2 plates of food sent back from tables around us. And look at the state of the seasoned chips with my son’s burger. Literally just dumped a load in the middle of the plate making them inedible… The roasts that had been ordered, completely overdone, needed a steak knife to cut through the meet! About the only thing that was okay was the steak pie, clearly ordered in and not made fresh onsite thank god! Zero pride in what was served, will never eat here again! I’m honestly astounded that these plates found their way out of the kitchen.

Service was good but OMG the food was absolutely vile. Would never eat there again. Ok for a quick cheap drink but save your money for elsewhere.

Went to burger box with my child. I was charged £23 for a serious small chicken burger with horrible taste and a disgusting hot dog. We had to bin the food as it was not eatable. AVOID AT ALL COST. They have no ide how to cook and it is so overpriced. I complained but they did not give a damn. So rude, and incompetent.

We popped into this branch of hungry horse whilst doing a spot of shopping next door in cheshire oaks. This place a good value for money. We went on a Friday, unaware of what offers they had on. Needless to say, we saw the quadzilla burger, with 2 for the price of 1. It was a no brainer. For sheer size. You cant beat it. Is it the best burger you can get? Probably not. Will it hit the spot for a hungry grown man? Yes it will. The burger was cooked nicely. With the chicken being juicy and decent bacon and cheese. It was great. If there was a criticism, it was a bit lacking in salad (see pic). You know what you are getting at Hungry Horse. Just good value to fill a hunger spot

Queued ages to order food as there was only one person serving. Food was terrible: scrambled eggs were cold and overdone, eggs on the Eggs Benedict were rubbery, and the sausages tasted cheap and nasty. One of our party has a dairy intolerance and was told semi skimmed milk was the only milk they they served, so she couldn't have a cup of tea with her breakfast. To not offer a dairy free alternative in this day and age is appalling. There are so many other places to eat in the area. Try them and avoid this place. I wish we had.

Originally just went in for a drink but decided to eat as well. One person serving behind the bar, order given but no indication given ax to how long wait would be. Had to ask for the table I was sat at to be cleaned. I had a forty minute wait, I was on the verge of asking for a refund and leaving when I noticed that food was starting to be brought out for other tables. One young man seemed to be doing all the serving, he was rushed off his feet,perhaps the middle aged woman who spent time putting sauces out could have been better employed bringing food out. My food finally arrived, chips hot, chicken warm and peas cooling, it was acceptable is the best I can say but at least there was an apology for the wait. It might be advisable to have two staff behind the bar and also advising people if there is going to be a long wait for food. I won’t be eating there again and would suggest that people eat elsewhere unless you’re prepared for a long wait.

Service was really bad! Glasses piled at the bar and only 1 person serving. Food was half hour wait and arrived just around 40mins. Had to go ask for the tea and the manageress looked disgusted when I did and Said she would chase it. 2 bites in to my burger to discover that it was red and undercooked. When the manageress brought the tea, I told her I wouldn't be eating the burger and requested my money back, she sent over another member of staff with the refund. Our plates lay on the table until we left around an hour and half after eating. Another table had ordered food and waited 30 mins for it to arrive, Only to be told that one of the meals had sold out. They then had to order something else. Very poor service and wouldn't think twice about returning

I had lovely time with my friends there with beautiful food and drinks but also we have served by Cristina who was very nice and kind.

Watched one member of staff dressed in own clothes picking all the food from a table she was cleaning with her fingers and put them into dirty plate then without washing hands put clean cutlery into cutlery dispensers whilst still holding dirty plates came back and emptied left overs from babies high chair onto floor and also wiped table contents she couldn’t pick up onto floor !! (Peas etc) and another member of staff ended up having to clean the floor !! Same lady whilst serving meals came out of kitchen each time eating something! Meals took ages to arrive even though not very busy and were only warm so ended up leaving them! Waited for over 15mins to be served with only one person infront ! Definitely will not be coming back again. We have used the hungry horse numerous times and felt it’s really gone down hill !

I would not eat from here ever again.. the food was shocking.. I took the children out for a birthday meal and wish I hadn’t bothered… I ordered the lasagne x2 and both were the same and as you can see from my picture it was awful and inedible , clearly left in the microwave for far to long, it was burned around the edges and all dried up the side salad however was ok. I wouldn’t have fed this to a starving dog..my young children could have done a better job at cooking this. There was no table check to see if everything was ok with our food. The staff behind the bar were very polite.

Food was ok but service very slow. Unfortunately the cleanliness of the establishment leaves a lot to be desired. Tables with dirty dishes left on them for an hour plus. Some were left for upwards of 2 hours.Dirty glasses piled up on the bar. Toilets are not very clean either. Staff very polite.

Breakfast and Evening meal 5***** - staff were awesome huge kudos for service with plenty of banter and smiles. Food was great on both servings.

I used to be a regular of this pub around 2012 and have sporadically still visited since then, we thought we'd pop in for some lunch and quickly spotted the "crown of burgers" on the menu. With 6 slider burgers and fries for £12-something we thought it would make a great lunch. I think my photos of this speak for themselves and honestly after this experience I won't be visiting this hungry horse ever again for food. I literally couldn't finish a single burger and my partner only managed 1. Fries were also really under done and soggy 🤮

Worst meal in a long time! Me and my son ordered via the App on arrival. Our main meals arrived after 15 mins or so, luke warm and tasteless. Looked like the food was thrown on the plates! Popa was stale. Asked where cutlery was, was told over there. Serviettes were in the draw - help yourself. I had to wipe the cutlery as none in the tub looked wiped/cleaned. My sons pint of guinness was good he said! Desserts were lovely too. But the whole experience against another Hungry Horse ive been too - not great and wouldnt visit again! Cheshire Oaks needs serious attention from the Management to get sorted quickly before you loose good custom. Standards very very low! Waste of £40 worth of Tesco Vouchers!

We arrived early for lunch before going to cinema next door. There was a 5 minute queue to order (I would have preferred to use the app, but you don’t get access to blue light discount on the app). No problem. Staff were great and our waitress spotted that the kids didn’t have a pen and gave them hers. After 40 minutes she also said she’d check on our order with kitchen without being asked by us. I was advised 10 more minutes which would have meant missing our film so went for a refund which was given with no quibbles (even for our drinks which we had drunk). We are at the cinema instead and despite not getting our food, I have given 4 stars because of the way the staff dealt with us despite being so busy. Will try again at a quieter time!

We have visited hungry horse in cheshire oaks previously and had some great meals and it’s been great value for money. Today was not the case. The difference in standard from 6 months ago was shocking. Staff service was next to nonexistent, the food was luke warm, it did not represent value for money and was a horrible experience. Will not be coming back.

This is the last time I ever visit this pub. Yes it was very busy and that was explained when we ordered our food there would be a 40 minute wait no worries as that's what was explained. We ordered off the 2 pub classic menu fish and chips then the tikka masala with Basmati rice hence the word Basmati as that is what is stated on the menu. When our food arrived there was hardly any chips on my husband's plate looked more like a kids meal Then guss what it was pilla rice on mine I explained that no I wanted white rice as stated She returned from the kitchen to say there is only pilia Now if this was explained at the beginning when I ordered I wouldn't have ordered it. Then we had to wait for forks Then am sorry to say but I wouldn't even feed my dog the curry that I was given so I left it. Due to obviously not having enough staff as I could only see one staff member behind the bar and one taking the food out this is not good enough. I fully understand it's only basic food but I still expect something I can eat and enjoy . I would have asked for a refund at the time But due to the long queue at the bar I couldn't be bothered

Very busy but good food at a good price, could have been more staff on as queues for ordering were very long and slow moving, it's worth downloading the app which we resorted to. Table and chairs could have been cleaner, crumbs and salt needed wiping down, but having said all that I would return.

No cutlery brought to the table like at other Hungry Horse I visit in Rhyl. When I asked waitress was just pointed in the general direction of where they were. Only forks in the tray. Waitress said well you get the forks and I’ll get the knives. No toilet rolls in either toilets

Absolutely brilliant service. Christina the waitress was an absolute pleasure. So polite and helpful. The manager was really helpful and also really pleasant . Food was lovely. Will definitely be returning. 😊

We always travel from the Wirral to this particular restaurant as every time we come the service and food are of a high standard. Today we came as a group of 6 with wife and kids and mother and father inlaw. There was a lady on the bar serving who was so patient and friendly her name was sue..she is so professional and multi tasks like a pro. We then met Christina ...a new member of staff who made the 6 of us feel so welcome I felt like I was on holiday. Amazing service and help, even though it's very busy had the delicious crown of burgers and 2 Mediterranean sea bass, the employees were delightful and friendly. Highly highly recommended.
