Hungery Fisherman in North Lincolnshire

I drive up to Brigg regularly to visit Parents. I have tried various Fish & Chips shops in and around Brigg, I can honestly say this little "GEM" of a takeaway and sit down restaurant is by far the best around. I have Haddock,chips, peas and curry sauce. Fantastic. Portion size is very good. Crispiest battery I've had in a long time.Staff are very nice too. I would highly recommend to anyone if in the area. Be aware it is cash only or pre-book on the App.

The best onion rings I've ever tasted & the fish & chips were up to their usual high standard & good sized portions. Thanks & well done!

Fancied early lunch and had noticed this chip shop down an alley with a sit down room. Great chips and mushy peas, not so sure about the sausage. I was the only one in, but it was very early lunch. Good for a quick sit down lunch.

We fancied fish and chips on a Friday evening we got in at the restaurant at 1905pm we told the waiter our order fish and chips twice the special and a cup of tea each. The waiter served us our cup of tea and that was that. 2 couples already in there eating had finished there meals and another couple walked in at 1925pm. We was still waiting for our fish and chips. Then to our surprise and dismay the couple who walked in at 1925pm got there meals straight away. We was still waiting for ours. By that time the cup of tea was drunk. We complained to the waiter about this. Service was absolutely terrible never again will we go there. Total disaster. Avoid Avoid Avoid …..

Okay, so i called in today for a piece of cod for a relative, paid £7.40 , took to my relative who cannot walk due to medical conditions, who was very very disappointed. I mean the cod i'd been sold was not cod at all .... it was haddock. My relative knew this vecause he used to be a fisherman for 25+ years , so he knows what he's talkind about when it comes to fish. I returned this as it was not what my relative asked for , only to be rudely spoken to saying i didnt know what i was talking about , i just polietly asked for my money back ... which they did ...only for him to try and give me £7 back . £7 when i paid £7.40(£7 is the price for haddock). You guys work the end result out ..

We popped in here when passing and my wife and I both had a small haddock and chips with mushy peas - just £5 each! Freshly cooked food at a reasonable price, well worth a visit.

Great little cafe serving freshly made fare straight from the fryers. Really good menu selection served hot and speedily but understand its chip shop food. Staff friendly and efficient. I have visited numerous times and never been disappointed with the food.

This place used to be good. Tried 3rd time now and fish always soggy. Had to put in oven to crisp it up and only 2 mins from home. Really need a decent chippy in Brigg!

Very dissapointed with the service and attitude of the staff. Being eating here for many years sometimes three times a week, very poor service shame because it used to be very good.

We have used The Hungry Fisherman for many years and have indeed written several reviews. I occasionally read other people's opinions and am very surprised at Mrs W's post. The tables and chairs have just be replaced and are vastly better than the old ones. I have rheumatoid arthritis and no longer need additional cushions. Having tables of two provides for any permutation of people, but more importantly people do not seem to be intruding onto tables of four where only two seats are occupied. We often go as a four and do not find this a problem at all. As for the staff you would not find more courteous and helpful people. Just read the many other posts endorsing this view. The food is of the finest quality and because my wife always has her fish without skin (a service they offer freely and willingly) ours is always cooked freshly. As a mark of their reputation we often eat with people who have travelled from Scunthorpe, Grimsby and Lincoln specifically to eat here. We, and many others, will continue to eat there almost weekly. Thank you Sinnan and Wendy and staff.

Visited for dinner today. I had the large haddock and chips. Tracey had chips and onion rings. Absolutely delicious. Perfectly prepared and a delight to eat. The service was excellent too. Jane was extremely polite and friendly and a credit to the restaurant. We would have no hesitation in returning on future visits to Brigg. Well worth the 5 stars.

Nothing is too much trouble for the staff at Hungry Fisherman. I prefer hardly any batter on my fish, and staff are happy to oblige. I have had fish and chips in their cafe area and also brought them home. The measure of a good food experience is whether you will return, and I certainly will.

We happened upon this chippy when we discovered that our usual chippy of choice was closed due to an electrical fault so we walked back to this one. The restaurant is only set out for tables of 2 so we pulled another table across to allow us to eat as a family.

Lovely clean dining area next to the traditional fish shop giving you the option of eat in or take out. Large haddock was freshly fried as was the chips. Friendly efficient service and although I was hungry it satisfied my appetite.

After hearing many positive reviews, i decided to give it a visit. The staff were relatively friendly and the prices were rather cheap - as cheap as chips. I wasnt too satisfied as the chips werent the best, but not the worst.

Me and a mate gave this place a go today and wow was we both impressed. Great service from super friendly staff. The fish and chips are lovely. Price wise very competitive. If you're in Brigg you definitely need to give the Hungry Fisherman a try, believe me you won't be disappointed. Top Notch!

I had some great fish & chips at dinner time. Really tasty & very reasonably priced. Ideal place to get a quick easy meals whilst you are out in Brigg. Highly recommended.

I call into the hungry fisherman at least once a week.The food is loverly hot and good size portions. The staff are ever so helpfull friendly only missing from this chippy to bring back the years as a child visiting a chippy is the newspaper wrapping . Well worth a visit and some loverly deals on .

We were recommended this chippy and so pleased we were. Really tasty fish and chips, together with others in our party enjoying the fish cake and the battered sausage. All for a good price. Definitely recommend.

I am so pleased that we decided to visit Brigg today, we called in here and had the set menu of haddock chips and peas, bread and butter, tea or coffee was also included, all for £6.00 each, Was the best fish I have had in such a long time, cooked to perfection, flakey not oily just amazing flavour of fresh fish. Bread butter and the tea was good quality too. Service excellent, premises very clean with lovely decor. I will definitely be going back.

Of the two fish shops in Brigg this is the one I use. The staff are really friendly and the shop is spotlessly clean. Each time I have been the fish has been freshly cooked and of good quality, having said that I only go for the large fish. I believe that there is another room with tables so that you can sit down to eat although I haven't tried it myself. If you are looking for a quality fish shop give it a try.

While it is cheap it's still not worth the money. The fish is often too greasy and mushy peas bland and tasteless. I would rather spend more and go elsewhere than eat here.

What more could you ask for?? Fish, Chips, Bread & Butter and a Tea Pot full of Tea.Excellent service. Best in Brigg! value for money too. Little Cafe at the side, to sit and eat. Cafe very clean and tidy.

The food is always freshly made, the staff are always friendly and welcoming, and the chips are the best in Brigg. It's my local stop for the best fish and chips around, completely unbeatable.

The small fish and chip deal is a steal, and the fish is always beautiful. The chips can be slightly softer than I like (back to my fish and chip fussiness) but it's all excellent. The very best of fast food, even when you are queuing out of the door.

We called in for something to eat on midweek around 12.30 and decided to eat inside. There are plenty of options to choose from and they also have special offers that are available all week. You're not restricted to fish and chips, also they are flexible re meals for example some specials are with peas but they will happily change it to curry, gravy or even salad. The lady taking our order was very friendly and polite. We didn't have to wait long for it to be served. The small haddock, chips and curry was very good and well cooked. First time we've eaten there but will be going back when in the vicinity. Well recommended.

This fish shop is amazing! It has lovely deals called 'tea time specials' which offers a range from pie to fish to fishcakes,kids meals also,lovely staff and a general good atmosphere!

Like a few other reviewers, I became less impressed by this place following the change in owners.Previously it almost always delivered, but two visits after the takeover left me thinking I need to take my business elsewhere.However the last 2 visits, including one two days ago, suggested it was as good as ever. Maybe sometimes the waiting time is a little longer, but the fish and chips are back to being top value and the curry sauce, better than ever.On the last occasion the young girl serving was very capable and has some charisma.

Those who have read my reviews know of my regard for the Hungry Fisherman. However we did not go for couple of months (March and April) as we found the food was not as good and certainly not as hot as previously. The man who always seems to fry is not a patch on Wendy and I look forward to the day she is returned to the fryer. I have read comments on here written about the same time and we all seem to agree, not a good place to eat during that time. However, we have been a couple of times in the last fortnight and are delighted to report it has returned to its excellence. Wendy is still not at the fryer but the food is freshly cooked, and quickly presented. Menu and value remain excellent to say nothing of Lucy and Ann. If still in doubt, please please give it another go, you will not be disappointed.

Been using this establishment for many years and never had any problems just recently the food has been a poor quality and most off all very cold. There doesn't seem to be any of the usual staff just a poor young girl who seems to lack proper training and two rude men it seems what was the best chip shop in Brigg is slowly going down the pan.

Uh oh no cod today but not a problem as there is plenty more options on the menu. Family has been coming here for over 30 years. Food has always been cooked to the highest standards and any issues have been dealt with immediately and respectfully. The establishment is always been spotlessly clean. Visited brigg to see family in January and stumbled across this place. Staff are lovely and very welcoming and the food was beautiful, cooked to perfection and served by very polite happy staff. Such a nice atmosphere for myself and family. Will definitely be visiting again on my next visit best fish and chips we've had and the price is very good too!☺

Friday T time no haddock, !!!we'll wait for cod ! COD arrives 10 mins later chips curry please wrapped , staff attempt to overcharge, I question this three times and eventually they agree. Get food home. Soggy greasy slop not nice. My fault for trying the only traditional chip shop in Briggs. I never do reviews but this one need d to be done.

Normally my wife and I travel to Steels in Cleethorpes for really good Fish and Chips but at 50+ Miles round trip we have been looking for somewhere a little closer. Tried the HF on a Friday teatime and we were pleasantly surprised. Its only got a small restaurant area 4 or 5 tables - 16/20 people max (not sure where a previous reviewer got stools at a breakfast bar from?) at the side of the take away. Being honest its not quite as good as steels but it was still good, the food was well cooked, the service friendly and prices reasonable. We will certainly be visiting again when we don't have the time or the inclination to drive to the sea side. One area they could improve on for us was the sources, we like Heinz ketchup and the stuff they had tasted like vinegar but still that's only a little thing.

I believe the place may have a new owner as ordering my food I was told there would be a small wait. The chips are so nicely cooked crispy but fluffy on the inside. Only down side is the service is much slower now never had a problem before it would be a shame for this to let the place down and loose custom.

Been a few times to the Hungery fisherman never been disappointed yet very good food and pleasant staff had my first breakfast there this time and was very impressed with what I got very well presented and very tasty will be going back again on my next visit to Brigg

Dropped in for a spur of the moment treat for the kids. Beautifully cooked fish and chips for three of us and our youngest had a kids meal deal (£4.30) of chicken nuggets, chips and beans with drink. The chicken nuggets were huge and, according to our 9 year old, 'much nicer than McDonalds'. Our 11 yr old and I had the special of small haddock, chips, curry sauce, bread and butter and tea which at just £5.50 each, was super value. Hubby had large haddock chips and peas (£6.50) and his fish was huge. The staff were very friendly and the restaurant area was clean and modern. Really pleased with our visit and happily recommend it to others.

If your ever in Brigg this place is certainly worth a visit. Place is extremely clean fast fresh food at brilliant cheap prices the staff are brilliant and very chatty great customer service will be returning again.

I must admit to not venturing far from the White Horse these days for cheap eats in Brigg, so it's a while since we ate in the Cafe here (however it's spelt lol - although not sure that's a good case for a one star review).We've continued to use the takeaway service regularly, but after a brisk walk down the Ancholme, then the High Street, that famous aroma drew us to thinking it was Fish & Chip time. We almost went for the takeaway, but thought we'd try the cafe for a change. Glad we did, it was excellent.The same 'small fish special', that's £3.50 from the takeaway, is £5.50 in the cafe, but also includes a pot of tea (or mug of coffee) and bread and butter. To have all this and served nicely on a plate makes the extra £2 money well spent.Let's not get carried away, I'd never claim 'these are the best fish and chips I've ever had', but the smaller fish is still a decent size, and the chips generally ok. For the price though, they make an excellent cheap meal.

Sit in fish and chip shop in the middle of Brigg. Seems to be very popular. Food was good , portions were large, good size pot of tea. Staff are ok but do not really take much interest in customers but they are polite. Place is small so hard to get a seat especially on market day.

By chance and looking for somewhere to eat, saw the Hungry Fisherman by chance. It was a few months ago since and Really enjoyed the fish chips and mushy peas. The service was good and friendly as was the price reasonable. Being from Grimsby and used to good fish and chips I am always weary of eating in towns away from there. I can honestly say they matched Grimsby and Cleethorpes for their freshness and taste.

Called in here as family always eat here when passing through Brigg and always recommend it to everyone. We were not disappointed. Only small seating area inside for approx 19 covers. It was full once we sat down and people were eating outside as such a lovely day. There wet a take out area too.Plenty of specials on offer on blackboards on the walls. I had haddock chips and peas as was very hungry, it didn't disappoint. £6.50 and was delicious.

The fish and chips from here is so nice, they do other dishes such as; lasagne, burgers and chicken nuggets. The burger is so tasty and delicious.

Brigg is a lovely old market town in Lincolnshire where my wife and me decided to go for tea. We had been recommended to try the The hungry fisherman which we did and had some very good fish and chips , in fact they were the best we have had for quite some time. Nev.

Once again The Hungery Fisherman delivered hot food, quickly. we visited again with my daughter Son in Law granddaughter and Dad, this is by far the best Fish and Chips in Brigg weather takeaway or in the restaurant.

We stopped here for a quick lunch 'on the hoof', imagining a simple local restaurant where we might be able to sit down and enjoy traditional Yorkshire fish and chips. Tripadvisor reviews were encouraging, so it seemed like a good idea.Sadly the reality was a big let down. The haddock fillet (no cod on the menus) was thin and overcooked, the chips were soggy and many of them were the small potato 'ends' that other chip pies throw away. The 'eat in' facility is two small tubular steel chairs at an improvised 'breakfast bar' or, more accurately 'shelf' in front of the window. There were chairs outside but not sure if these were attached to the restaurant and, in any even, it was raining, so no fun in that.Overall, the very disappointing experience. We won;t be stopping at Brigg on our next trip.
