Taz's Fish Bar in North Lincolnshire

Grew up in Barton and came back to visit after about fifteen years. The first thing I wanted was fish and chips. I used to come to this chippy as a kid, and though it’s changed owners I reckon this beats everything I’ve had in London and the south and then anything all over the world. The haddock was fresh and tasty, the batter airy and crispy, the chips perfection, but the biggest surprise was the curry. It’s proper homemade Indian dal sabzi! I haven’t tasted anything so good outside India, and my wife’s from Delhi so I have some experience. What a completely amazing surprise. Super friendly service too. Made me happy.

Not one for sharing bad reviews but came here after seeing all the good reviews. All I can say is they must be having a bad day, worse chips I've ever had and the fish tasted like it had been out all day

Average at best yet expensive. Fish still had skin/scales on and mushy peas tasted like water. Chips were decent though.

I like to pop in for a battered sausage in a roll. Fast food on the hoof and Taz's fish bar does this perfectly.

Delicious Haddock and Chips! The lady serving was exceptionally nice and the fish and chips were the best we've had for a long time. Tasty, white fish in light golden batter accompanied by moist (not greasy!) soft chips, just as they used to be served in the past. Well recommended!

Really amazing place, the owner Val has been in the fish and chip business for over 22 years which shows in the deliciousness of the fish and chips. We ordered haddock with chips and the portions and flavor did not disappoint us. We also tried the pea and curry with the fosh and it added more flavor to the meal. Will definetly come back. Mrs. Val was very nice and welcoming.

Our first visit for a while and I was left rather disappointed. We though that we would have a fish dinner as we had not had one since last year . As soon as we unwrapped the fish I noticed that the batter was rather uneven and different texture to what I normally experience at other shops . More batter than fish should maybe change the name on the menu to batter n chips. However the chips n peas where fine 👍

It's not very often I fancy fish and chips but recently me and a friend really craved some chips and curry sauce, we came here and I'm glad we did! Best curry sauce around and the service is second to none, very friendly!

First and last visit 2 weeks ago. Soggy chips, and little actual fish in the batter. Never go again!

Having reviewed its competitors it would be a shame to not include our gratitude to Taz's for what can only be a long and greatly appreciated service over the years. Through thick and thin one always is greated with a friendly smile and 1st class food. After almost 30years we look forward to the next 30!!

It's been a lot of years since I last had fish and chips from here. I wasn't disappointed at all. The staff are friendly and the food quality is top notch. I'll definitely be back the next time I'm in Barton and would highly recommend you give them a try. The price was spot on. To be fair I'm struggling to find a problem with any of it.

the food was cold and hard and was absolutey a rip-off i recommend you to not come here and i recommend going to market place chip shop. Disappointed

The 2/5 rating feels a little harsh perhaps. The food here is OK, staff friendly and the range good. This is the only chip shop in town that seems to actively market offers, particularly aimed at the grey market. However, it is a little expensive for some products and the quality is inferior to the other 2 chip shops in town. Additionally, this chip shop can often shut up well before its published closing times (I can appreciate that it may be quiet on a cold midweek night) which is why I wouldn't really recommend this place. There are definitely worse chip shops around, however none of them are in Barton upon Humber and therefore I would recommend that you visit either the Market Place chip shop or the one on the corner of High Street/Finkle Lane.

I pondered upon the shop, and the beautiful aroma enticed me inside. After surveying the incredible choice, i decided to purchase a large fish and chips which were of incredible value. I thouroughly envoyed them as they were immensely scrumptious. Since then, i travel 30 mins at least once a week to feast upon the marvel inside Taz's fish bar.

Great fish and chips, usually cooked fresh to order, and they offer special offers with "half chips", with portions that are definitely plenty big enough, making it a great value family takeaway! Lovely mushy peas too!

Had to travel all the way to Barton to find one of the better fish and chips dishes I've ever had - fresh, crispy, hot and sizzling. ..and the chips, homemade cut, chunky and so comforting...

This was one if the worst chippies I've ever been to in my life, the chips were rather unpleasant and just not what you want from chippy chips, really not my thing. The sausage I had was also rather bad and tasted like cigarette buds

This is our second visit and once again we weren't disappointed. As supporters of a non league football team fish & chips are a must on long journeys. Taz's Fish Bar definitely falls into our must visit list. The staff are extremely courteous and friendly and always try and fulfil your requests. Fish are cooked to order and the batter is both crisp and tasty. In an age of 'chips for the portions ' it is nice to be offered 'half chips' (ample especially if you choose the large fish. Finally the cost will amaze you, change from a fiver, making it a truly memorable occasion.

Having lived in Hull I was pleasantly surprised to find a pattie on the menu. Had a pattie buttie, no other food, but it was really good. Lady who served me was friendly and polite. Good value. Will return again

We visited on good Friday and were not disappointed. There was a queue out of the door due to good Fri but we were served quickly. when we had walked the ten mins home and unwrapped our food it was delicious, not a soggy mess like it is when it's being wrapped up for a time. The fish was large , thick, batter crispy ,overall well worth a visit.

Ive been brought up eating northern fish and chips. Moved here a year ago and have tried all fish and chips in the town of Barton. These are by far the best fish and chips i ve tasted in a long time. No gooey batter in sight and such tasty, crispy batter. The haddock is fantastic!

Stopped off in Barton and stumbled upon Taz`s fish bar and glad i did i had homemade fish cake with chips and curry sauce it was so good whenever i`m passing i stop off for a bite too eat,staff are great very friendly and prices are very competitive with deals on.

Let us start with a simple fact, I love food. I'm not a true food critic but I know what I like and I know what I hate.Tax's Fish Bar I LOVE! I have been twice and devoured the serving each time! In fact the first time i went I was shocked at the amount of food you got compared to the likes of some fish and chips shops on the seafront at Cleethorpes. The chips were not (as 1 reviewer has stated) inedible, the batter on the fish was far from soggy. In fact both times were crisp.I enjoyed them so much i have already spoken with friends and family that the next time they're down we're off for Fish and chips here!

I always find it odd when someone leaves a bad review for a company and then returns to leave another bad review. Feels somewhat like there is an axe to grind and I think it unfair to small businesses in a small Market Town. The ACTUAL truth of Taz's Fish Bar is that it is, without a doubt, the best that Barton has to offer and I'm not the only one that thinks so. My family love it as a treat, my friends from the local area and as far as London, have also said that it is a fantastic quality place too. The staff are friendly, helpful and funny. They make recommendations on what you might like and above all, it's service with a smile and no "thick and soggy batter" in sight. I have been coming here for approximately 9 years now (when I first moved to Barton). I have tried the other Fish & Chip shops and they simply don't live up to Taz's. So when you're driving home and and can't stand the idea of slaving over a meal in the kitchen? Stop by Taz's, you'll be glad you did!

Last evening (22nd October 2014) I called here again, just to give them a second chance, because everybody deserves a second chance!... many of you would love to see "and I'm glad I did!" but the reality is that Taz's in George Street still remains pretty poor, so the result is... "I'm sorry that I did!"No improvement on the fish, with thick, soggy batter!No improvement on the chips, with far too many tatty ends!I don't do the 'fish and chip shop' lame excuse for curry sauce, and for me to buy mushy peas, they've got to be natural in colour for mushy marrow-fat peas, i.e. olive green, not the bright neon green (food colouring) that most fish and chip shops think we should be eating.Taz's is no more than the same old same old! Get yourself to one of the two other fish and chip places in Barton, the top end of High Street or Market Place!Simples!

I called here for fishcake and chips as I was waiting for my car to be repaired. Chips were nice and hot and the fishcake was tasty and large. I'd visit again if I was in Barton.

Not a restaurant, but a takeaway fish and chip shop! Despite local eateries and fast food outlets providing grossly inflated recommendations on a 'like for like' exchange basis, I am here to tell the truth.This obviously casts into doubt any recommendation given by other fast food establishments, probably all of them members of a team who have decided to pay each other great compliments... Do your research... None of the other recommending establishments stand up to decent criticism, either (they all deliver substandard food)... so let's look at Taz's fish and chip shop on its own merits... from that of a genuine customer...Fish (haddock): overcooked, batter soggy and completely lacking seasoning or texture... probably a simplistic flour-water batter! Chips: New potatoes (as advertised in the window) so this tells me two things...1) The price per portion rises, not to be reduced when back on Old potatoes!2) The quality of chips is really poor! About 1/4 of the weight are inedible, over-fried scrappy spud-ends! The first time I've tried Taz's, and the last! In future, I'll buy my rarely-purchased fish and chip treat from the Market Place!
