Popped in yesterday for tea and cake whilst on our travels, it was lovely. Although I'm originally from the area, I've lived away for many years, so I've lost track of what's available locally. This place is an absolute gem and will definitely be on my list of places to visit. Please update your social media pages though, we weren't sure if you were still open.

Family of 4 adults stopped off here for an early light lunch. Staff very pleasant, service extremely good and lovely surroundings. I would consider slightly over priced by £7 a bacon bap, 3 soups, 2 cheese on toast, a tea, a coffee, a hot choc and a soft drinks just over £53. Toilets very clean but an unpleasant smell coming from unused shower room next to toilet.

The menu is perhaps not the widest, (nor the easiest to read on a blue and white check background). In fact the breakfast menu, as an all day is worth noting. However for lunch I opted for the Lasagne, with garlic bread and salad. I was more than satisfied. I can recommend it. The huge plus of places like Hungersheath, is that the kitchen is one end of a long room, and the customers the other 3 / 4‘s. Hence the proximity ensues a good relationship. (Maybe the toilets could could do with regularly checking, improving) But nevertheless well worth a visit.

A beautiful tearooms off the beaten track. It was my first time at Hungersheath and I must say it was outstanding, the food was delicious along with fresh homemade cakes served with a smile. Food and service good but general area is in need of updating. Outside tables are old and unstable and outside area in general looks neglected. Haven't been to Hungersheath for a while and what a disappointment. Staff were pleasant but tearoom smelled of grease and old fat. Waited a quarter of an hour for a glutinous offering that called itself Stilton and Broccoli soup. Very unpleasant and inedible. The roll was ok but had to ask for knife for butter. Outside tables were very shabby as were surroundings.

It’s been three years since our last visit (it’s a pit stop en route to a holiday destination) and nothing’s changed ... which is not a criticism at all. The service is swift and with a smile. The menu has sufficient choice without overwhelming. The venue is clean and airy - there’s outside seating too in a little sun trap. This visit was on a Sunday and we were surprised to see a few reserved tables - till we saw the Sunday lunches being served! Definitely one to remember for next time! We had the Hunter’s Platter - and the roast beef was warm and very obviously carved from the joint of the day. Delicious!! As was the ham and the home-made chutney. We didn’t have room for dessert or cake - but from those being served the quality and quantity wouldn’t disappoint. Another plus is the coffee is served HOT not lukewarm 👍

We stopped here for breakfast and must say food was quite nice but the staff were far from pleasant or friendly, as we walked in the staff seemed neither bothered nor interested in fact for the first 10 minutes no one came to see what if anything was required the only person that took any interest was another customer. We were unsure as if we needed to go to the counter for service or if some one should be coming to us but the other customer assured us it was not self service, Laughable in its self. When the chap did come over he just looked so disinterested at being there I almost felt guilty that I was making him do something he enviously did not want to be doing. When the food came it was hot and tasty but the service including the young girl that served us with the food just did not seem to have any interest in the place. A friendly smile and a hello goes a very long way. The place also looked a little grubby, the toilet was not pleasant the toilet bowl was dirty and I had a job to see the toilet roll as it was not on the wall as you would expect it was under the sink on to of a bin, humm..could have been so much nicer in some many ways, with out to much effort on the staff or owners part. So as I say a shame but I don’t think I will be likely to return.

Ordered a cherry scone and a black coffee. When the order arrived a few minutes later I cut the scone in half and found it was a fruit scone instead. Oh well - not what I ordered but I've nothing against scones of the fruit variety so I stuck with it. It was a shame to receive two foil-wrapped butter pats rather than a small pot of butter, especially as the tearoom is next to a farm shop. Barely enough jam to cover two halves of a scone too. I assumed experienced staff would know the correct jam to scone ratio. And although I asked for a black coffee, I received two-thirds of a cup. Coffee was nice though so it was a shame I didn't receive a full cup. It's a bit out of the way so I don't think I'll be making a return trip anytime soon. That's a pity as I do like to frequent independent cafés and tearooms if I can.

Spur of the moment visit and they were happy to let us sit outside with our dog but no offer of water for him and it was a hot day. We had water with us but they didn't know. Reasonable menu choices and prices. We had the bacon and brie sandwich which came with a side salad and crisps, and the heardsmans platter. The sandwich was good and the quality of the meat on the platter was excellent but I object to paying extra for bread which should have been included in the meal. The salad is very sparse, lots of lettuce and one carefully placed cherry tomato with a bit of onion and a slice of cucumber cut in half, and they really need to change the brand of crisps which are like chewing cardboard. Wouldn't make an effort to go but if you're passing it's a pleasant place to eat.

We had our works Christmas do here for 30+ people and we stayed the night. Front of house staff were lovely and welcoming, but that is all I can really say nice about our stay. Our room was like something out of the 70/80s very twee and old-fashioned. Quilt cover had a rip in it. Bath looked old, faint smell of cigarette smoke. No soap, shower gel etc in the bathroom - to help save the planet apparently - you could request some at reception. We were woken about 6am by what I assume was some kind of water cistern behind one of the bedroom walls that sounded like a plane going over head. The party. Arrival time was stated as 7pm and most (about 180) turned up about then. We were all crowded into the bar which wasn't big enough and soon warmed up to a very uncomfortable temperature. They eventually let us in at 8pm. Drinks were astronomically expensive - £7.50 for a pint £8.20 for a Baileys or a large glass of wine (£25+ by the bottle) and £7.20 for a pint of coke!!!. The main course wasn't served until after 9pm and my beef was dry and tasteless, though others who had the turkey said it wasn't bad. And my Xmas pudding was dry too. All in all not somewhere I would ever go again and certainly don't know where it gets it 4 star rating from. I did voice most of my complaints to reception before leaving.
