Nice food, lovely staff. Fair price too.

A delicious Chinese meal at the Hung Fung. Our food was cooked to perfection and we were looked after very well. We're looking forward to our next visit.

We have been using the Hung Fung restaurant and take away in Kingsthorpe for over 20 years now. The food is always mouthwateringly excellent and always ready on time, Prices are sensible and service is friendly and civilised. 100% recommend.

Awful service used to be good 2 hour wait and half the food missing

Takeaway BBQ Ribs were trully dreadful. They were not BBQ nor sweet and sour. Maybe something inbetween and not at all appetising. It is said that hunger is the best sauce but you would really have to be starving to have been satisfied. I tried two and the rest went into the bin. I will not be using the place again.

Absolutely shocking Waited and waited to get served no one was about and the restaurant was empty . I had to phone whilst inside so I could get served . Whilst the man was taking our order the phone rang and he just answered it and started taking whoever was on the phones order . So we started again and the same thing happened. So no I won't be recommending this place I'll stick to the Ruby in far cotton which puts the customer in front of them 1st

I've been using this take away for a long time, very sadly the food is getting worse and worser ordered my usual duck in black bean sauce and mix balls, the mixed ball were tasteless and cold.the duck was awful. It's a shame use to be so good sadly after years going to have to start looking again.

Cannot vouch for the restaurant as I have not been but this has been our Chinese takeaway of choice for the last 10+ years! We have tried so many others in Northampton but in our opinion, none Match up to Hung Fung!

Well if Henry saw what we have just had delivered he would have gone nuts.... firstly all food was virtually cold, it arrived 70 mins after ordering online. The chicken was pre cooked before battering as the balls were brown on outside and completely uncooked doughy goo on the inside, the roast crackling pork was soft, cold, extremely greasy and incl three 2cm square lumps of just fat.... ugh! The chow mein lacked any taste whatsoever. Most of the food delivered went in the bin, absolutely no point in complaining as didn't want the food replacing with more cold inedible offerings after another hour plus long wait. So disappointed will not use again.

Mixed dishes for four people on a friday evening. As usual pleasant & quick service and a well cooked tasty meal. Usual high standard.

Food was superb. May just be our favourite takeaway, couldn't work out how to get food delivered though. No JE signs or anything

Poor, poor, poor, curry has a 1cm layer on oil on top, chips are dry and wrinkly, chicken balls burnt, ribs are burnt to the point they are black, chowmain meat is all fat, with 3 prawns!!!. Shocking

Awful food, dry, tasteless wouldn't go back again

I ordered a takeaway from here the first time I'd ordered for 2yrs..from any takeaway an the first time from here, it will be the very last time ...since the whole meal went in the bin.i take no pleasure in this and if this review is taken down I will review it elsewhere. First off I did say when I ordered I lived in second floor apartment..she told me that was no problem...meal came rang intercom but would not deliver he flatly refused so I paid delivery an couldn't get meal unless I went into street. Then food was stone cold dire,an went straight into bin! Ifu want good food ,don't order from here ....ever!!

I have used this restaurant a few times, this time we had crispy beef. Well the portion size was quite frankly theft, don’t get me wrong the food was okay tasting but £5.90!!! I don’t think so mate, don’t order this dish if you are hungry.

I have been eating at Hung Fung regularly since I moved to Kingsthorpe a number of years ago. The food is good, prepared quickly and always fresh (apart from the usual fried starter selection) but the staff could be a little more attentive - as there aren’t usually many in the restaurant, they also man the takeaway counter and you often only see them when the come back and forth when food is ready. Decor is quite plain and old-school, but not un-pleasant. Salt and Chilli Squid is the best I have had anywhere!

Food tasted old. Spent about $80 for a large family and threw out the majority of it. It was a waste of money. Definitely wont eat here again.

Just had a fantastic takeaway: chicken curry & pineapple with boiled rice. Ordered online (restaurants own website!) using a very user friendly system. Food arrived on time piping hot. Highly recommended.

This is a great family run take away. Their dishes have a more homely feel to them, like more is made in house. I've always liked it and somehow feel they do things healthier somehow.

Exceptionally good quality food well worth waiting for after order taken

Food arrived quickly but it went down hill from there. Ordered chicken with lemon which means with lemon sauce from literally anywhere I've had Chinese food before, but not here it comes with a small lemon wedge which it doesn't state on the website. I called to say there was no sauce with it and this is when I'm informed it doesn't come with lemon sauce so I paid near on £6 for bland fried chicken. Also the quality of the chicken in the chicken curry is awful, I'm not completely convinced it's actually chicken. So I had very expensive rice and curry sauce. I've given 2 stars simply on the speed of delivery and the curry sauce was nice. But in all honesty I'd rather wait a bit longer for delivery and get better food. Definitely would not recommend Hung Fung!

Absolutely diabolical service, took 1 hr 40 mins for delivery, rang twice was told driver had just left, this was already after waiting an hour , rang again to be told will chase driver up, the driver turned up n I said I wasn't going to pay full price after waiting so long was told to contact office, rang office was given a 10 p/c discount on an order of nearly 40 quid, I disagreed this was good enough and was asked what I'd pay , I'd pay half after it's so late, the man on the phone said no I'm not going to take that so I'll tell driver to bring it back, you just lost a good customer, don't bother with this takeaway they are not bothered about their customers, just money money

I have been going to hung fung restaurant for 15 years. I used to know the previous owner Henry and had a lovely friendship with him and then he passed away and new owners came into place. I still eat at hung fung as we’ve always gone there for so many years why wouldn’t we. Recently the service has dropped and been awful and tonight was one of them. Ordered food, didn’t get to us till 1 hour and 40 mins later, called up and was told driver is running behind and just left be 10-15 minutes, called up 30 mins later and was then told he would ring the driver to see where he was. Driver got to us we Asked the driver when did he leave the restaurant and he said “about 30 mins ago” we felt the food in the bag and it was barely warm. Now abit of background, I was at my mums, I have a baby and we wanted to eat as a family all together which we don’t get to do often since having a baby. I should have left my mums before the driver arrived so I could go back to put the baby to bed as he was so tired. Which I could of done if the food had arrived in estimated time which was 45 mins. I was very upset when the food finally got to us as it meant I had to take my share and leave to get home and we couldn’t eat together. We rang up before taking the food from the driver and asked for money off due to the nearly 2 hour wait and inconvenience and we were told he would take off 10% which worked out to be £3.70... do you think this is fair for a nearly 2 hour wait, inconvenience and upset to the family, for Luke warm food? We have been loyal customers for over 10 years and found that the customer service was shocking. I’m disgusted and upset and will never be ordering from here ever again. If this was handled by a sympathetic owner that apologised and meant it, that possibly could have called us an hour into our order and make us aware they were running behind / take an appropriate amount off the bill for the inconvenience then this would have been resolved but unfortunately it was not dealt in that manner at all. Wouldn’t recommend.

Ordered Saturday bank holiday weekend evening. Spewed Saturday night.. Sunday me and my girl had diarrhoea and sickness. Monday recovering. Called the restaurant Tuesday after work. The person I spoke to was neither concerned nor interested. You've been warned everybody !!!

Went in and ordered was ready very quickly. Absolutely lovely meal - shredded chicken and beef, sweet&sourpork balls and lemon chicken. Very friendly staff.

Just had a super fast delivery, food was delivered hot and very tasty. I know who to use now for future orders.

My partner and I have been coming here for years. While living in Northampton we came here often. Now we are further afield we come here when we get the chance. We ate in and it's exactly the same as when we visted years ago. It's quite dated inside, and the toilets are unclean. That being said - don't let the toilets phase you. The food is always plentiful, hot and tasty. It's not greasy and it's great value for money. There are a few members of staff who have been there for many years and they are all very polite. I can't rate it enough. People who are not happy with takeaway, when you are transporting food (with the food being so hot) the bag gets sweaty, takeaway is never the same as eating in. Why not eat in just once and experience the food steaming hot as it comes out? As always we will be back!!

Food is tasty, especially the Beef Curry.

We ordered a pot of satay sauce, which when delivered turned out to be curry sauce. Thai prawns tasted like toilet cleaner. The spring were awful. The shucked balls were barely battered. The sweet and sour sauce was tasteless. Salt and chilli chips were sweating and wet, with the majority of the box being vegetables. Wouldn’t recommend to anyone. I even rang to complain and they didn’t want to help me out at all, considering I had just spent £30. do not go here for take away.

Had a very tasty takeaway, ordered by phone talking to a polite person, didnt rush me off the phone. Delivered very promptly by an equally polite person. Food quality was excellent, this will now be our go to place for takeaway, intending to try the restaurant in the not so distant future, top class.

The food is always outstanding. The salt and chili king prawns in light batter are our personal favourite. It always arrives on time and hot. Delivered with a smile as well. We love this place. Whoever gave 1 star because they wouldn't take a card needs to get a hobby or something. Rate the food and knock them down a star for the inconvenience at worse. We probably get food from this place too regularly but we are never disappointed. Best Chinese takeaway in town.

We used to use this take away 26 years ago, and stopped only due to relocating. Now back in the area we just had a delivery in less than 20 minutes from ordering! WOW still amazing food! Thank you

Having been a regular customer for many years I called in to get my take away and went to pay on my debit card only to be told they do not accept payment by card under £8 I ask why only to be told it was because of bank charges am I correct in believing banks did away with these charges. You can use your card to make payments for as little as £2 in other pubs and takeaways in the area. without any problem They still refused to take payment by card and said there's a cash point over the road I was not impressed by the take or leave it attitude by the gentleman in question I could see his female colleague was clearly embarrassed by his response as it was a wet friday evening It will be some time if ever I return to purchase a take away

I ordered the set dinner for two at this restaurant and WOW. It was delicious! The portions are very generous and very tasty. The dining room is intimate and very well themed with Chinese lamps hanging from the ceiling and paintings depicting the Far East on the walls. All the while Chinese music plays over the speaker. I highly recommend giving the place a try!

Take away took over an hour to arrive so everything was cold. When it did arrive, our 1/4 duck was mostly skin and fat. The cucumber and spring onion was really slippery and obviously gone off. Chicken in the chicken fried rice was pretty disgusting looking mostly all fatty. It was also just squashed on top of the rice rather than cooked through it. All in all, we won’t be back.

Never sat in the restaurant but the take away is up there with top 3 Chinese Foods I've ever tried. Well nice. Very polite Family-run shop.

Relaxing evening great food good service

Often I find takeaways can be really greasy and leave you regretting getting it - but this is not at all the case with Hung Fung! The food we ordered was delicious and was good quality from a takeaway. Will definitely order from here again.

El pollo tenía un extraño sabor y textura, la salsa de ciruela fue probado en sosos y demasiado dulce, y el huevo frito arroz sabía muy sencilla. También encontré un número de pelos negros en mi comida. Sólo conseguimos unos pequeños bocados de pollo y luego llenaba con arroz.

Ordered a takeaway of crispy chicken with plum sauce and egg fried rice, and I've never been so disappointed with a takeaway. The chicken had a really strange taste and texture to it, the plum sauce it was in tasted bland and far too sweet, and the egg fried rice tasted very plain. I also found a number of black hairs in my food. Only managed a few small bites of chicken and then filled up on the rice. After seeing the positive ratings for their food I was really looking forward to my meal, however after this I will not be trying any more of their food. I really don't understand how others have left postive feedback on their food. I don't know if the restaurant inside is any better quality, but after my experience I think it's best to avoid this place and try somewhere else. Really unpleasant food.

On a Saturday night I expected my food to take a little longer than the quoted 30-45 minutes on the website. However I didn't expect to be waiting 2 and a half hours for my food and then for them to forget the drink I ordered. Apart from the long wait the food was lovely, despite ignoring the request not to have bean sprouts in the chow mein .Shame I didn't get the drink I ordered to quench my thirst, especially considering I had to pay extra for it and by the time it took for me to open the bag to check everything was there the delivery man had disappeared and was no where to be seen, so I couldn't even point out the mistake that was made.

Placed an order online at 1725hrs and at 2000hrs has still failed to be delivered. Both phone numbers for the venue are now constantly left off the hook. Items paid for and not received. this has happened increasingly over the past few orders placed, time for this place to be closed down!

We very rarely eat out Chinese but prefer to takeaway however after a recommendation we went for a family meal here.

Me and my partner order our takeaways from here. Always comes in 20 minutes or less boiling hot fresh food. Tiny bit pricey but its such a lovely place.

Ribs in batter... Need I say more. I came across these on the menu and wanted to give them a try. The first time I didn't ask for them not to add the chilli, they blew my socks off. The second time I remembered and they were very accommodating to that. I am looking forward to trying more from here. Starting with the Fu Young.

Where else do you have special show mein with just chcken pork and noodles?? Where's the king prawns, beef, bamboo shoots etc .....? Who else does Singapore fried rice with minced meat? If you don't mind minced meat , then there's not much of it at all. Don't get me wrong, it was tasty but half of what you normally get from the better Chinese takeaways. Oh... forgot to mention the ribs, half portion and rubbery.... Won't be ordering from here again

Great food and great service. I always order food from them. They deliver the food within the time stated. Usually whithin 45 mins. The food is cooked well and very tasty. Wonderful!!!

Arrived home late so time for a good curry. The Hung Fung in Kingsthorpe is easy to find and park. A wide range of traditional Chinese dishes. My favourite is always the King Prawn curry with fried rice. Makes me hungry for another writing this review.

Very nice Service from both the Host and the Gorgeous Waitress of the Cantonese Restaurant, Nice atmosphere, beautiful wall paper and lovely bar. The food was amazing; I had sweet and sour Tofu with Egg fried rice & Prawn Crackers, For dessert I had Pineapple Fritters and Banana Fritters served with icecream it was very delicious. I would recommend this restaurant to my friends and I am definitely going back there again to have their mouth watering food soon 🍷🍤🍲🍙🍍

We have been using this Chinese Takeaway for years. Never had a bad one which is why we keep using it. Always fresh, tasty and delivered on time. Thank you Hung Fung.

Don't know what these other reviewers have been eating, or what their idea of 'good' is - but this place is AWFUL. Crispy chilli beef - what you get is, a plastic tub full of anaemic grey fried beef... and a pot of Hoi-Sin sauce, That's it. Nothing else. Sesame prawn toasts - undercooked (white !!), doughy, flavourless. Chilli and salt squid - chewy squid ridiculously over-salted. I have eaten an awful lot of Cantonese food in my time - and I worked for 5 years as a chef - and this stuff is, honestly, to be avoided. I can only imagine the the "best Chinese in Northampton" reviews, have been written by the owners or their family. It is, in fact, in my opinion, the WORST I have ever eaten in all my years of living here. I had to chuck the beef round in a wok with some onions and peppers and chili and soy sauce and honey (as it should be cooked !!)... just to make it bearable. I had to switch on my fryer and re-fry the Sesame Prawn Toasts until they were properly cooked. The squid (oh yes and the squelchy tasteless Yung Chow Fried Rice) went in the bin. If you want to waste £20 and end up having to cook your own dinner anyway - then try it !. If however you want a decent takeaway that you'll want to go back to - try China Red in Kingsley Park. I just wish I had been bothered to drive the extra five minutes over there tonight. Pathetic attempt - if I could give zero stars then I would (probably minus a couple for the insult).

Great little restaurant for a leisurely meal.Menu of old favourites like mixed starters and prawns with black bean and ginger They happily made dishes to our preference and the cost was very reasonable Even the prawn crackers were fresh and piping hot

we have had plenty of takeaways from here over the last 3 years and the food has alway been fabulous but earlier this year we were very disappointed but hoped it was a one off, so today we tried it again. What a waste of money, we had Kung-po chicken and sweet and sour chicken balls and both were bland tasteless fodder. We will not be going back.

After spending a lot of time in Northampton my partner and I visited this Chinese on many occasions both for a sit down meal and also takeaway. The food tends to be hit and miss.When sitting in the restaurant for a meal the interior is a little old fashioned but the staff do make you feel welcome more so when you are a regular.The food was hot and tasty. It is very small however so we tried to avoid busy times and would visit later in the evening. Bad points I found when we had takeaway would be on a few occasions the order was incorrect which we would only find out once we drove back to the house which takes about 15 mins... To be fair they would credit us for next time. The prawns are probably the only food I would check mainly due to the intestinal tract not being deveined and more often than not is full ie 'black' which to me is very off putting. I also received a king prawn ball with a hair in it once - after that unfortunately I couldn't eat it again. My partner on the other hand loved the place.

Ate in the restaurant, and ordered chop suey, sweet and sour pork and lemon chicken. All were tasteless and inedible. The lemon chicken was a piece of breaded chicken with a lemon wedge on top. We won't be coming back.

Wow, I had visited Hung Fung many years back and it still seems the same great food is being cooked. My wife and I visited this time round and because my wife is a coeliac, she has to be careful to avoid gluten.I phoned up in advance and spoke to Ken. (I think he is either the manager/owner). He is a very nice chap, very knowledgable about gluten free options. He asked my wife what she might like from the menu, and then he would see if it could be made gluten free. After getting the clear from the chef, my wife ordered Chicken in Lemon Sauce with Egg Fried Rice (no soy sauce) and I had Sweet and Sour King Prawn Balls with Egg Fried Rice.The meals were delivered promptly and were nice and hot. The rice tasted really nice and Rebecka noted that her rice was particularly good even without the Soy Sauce. I had around 14 huge juicy battered prawns with a huge bowl of sweet and sour sauce. Rebecka had a large breast of chicken with the lemon sauce.Portions wise you get good value for money too and I couldn't quite eat all of it which is unusual for me. I will definitely pop back again at some point :-)

Hung Fung is the best Chinese in Northampton. I don't even bother ordering from any other Chinese anymore as nowhere does a better chicken curry.

Have eaten from here several times now, the food is well presented for their takeaways, and the service is polite and welcoming. Excellent flavour, we do not buy Asian food anywhere else.

The title doesn't lie, this takeaway really is our favourite as we always order one every saturday without fail. The food is always consistently brilliant, especially the singapore chow mein, not sure if that was helpful or not, but I have this always because it tastes great. The service is impeccable and they are always happy to help you. Brilliant takeaway, highly recommended. I haven't been to the restaurant section, but if they serve the same food of which they do for the takeaway, then I'm sure it would be equally brilliant.
