Home cooked food, with good choice for vegetarians. Lovely cosy feel to the pub. We would definitely recommend a visit.

Ralph and I have visited this establishment very regularly over many years when it t was run by Paul and Dawn and loved the menu and the food. Since it has reopened under new management we were most anxious to try it out. On Friday evening, 27th September, we revisited the Hundred House Inn. We were made to feel most welcome and were ushered to our table. Compared with the past the menu was limited. After having been reassured that the fish was cod, we both chose the fish and chips option. On arrival the meals looked very appetising. However, the fish proved to be extremely disappointing. There were no large flakes that you associate with cod and the bottom of the fish was very soggy and stodgy. Ralph even said to me, “This is disgusting!”. We felt that it was very overpriced, especially as we were charged £7.80 for two half pints of Butty Bach! We discovered this fact later when we looked at our receipt. Overall, sadly, we were left feeling that we’d never go there again.

Nice enough pub and the ladies working there were very pleasant. After reading the reviews we were looking forward to a nice lunch but I was bitterly disappointed by my choice. The lasagne had virtually no filling, it was all pasta and completely lacked any flavour at all. I've never used so much salt and pepper with a meal to try and add some taste. I really hope they improve on the recipe moving forward.

Visited for drinks while staying at Fforest Fields. Beautiful refurbishment of the whole pub. We had drinks in the beer garden. Additional toilets for pub garden users which is very handy when you have your dog with you. Wooden shelters a great idea for when sudden shower appears. Very good drink prices in comparison to home. Service in bar very quick and everywhere extremely clean and well kempt. Will definitely be visiting again and recommend a visit.

This is the 3rd time I have visited this pub while staying at the campsite nearby. The first 2 occasions we were denied food due to 1) being full (understandable) albeit we arrived at 5pm on a Saturday evening & 2) the second time we were unable to order food as chef was not accepting new orders on a Saturday lunch time In advance of our latest visit we booked a table for 1 pm in advance On arrival I was greeted by the bar staff and advised we were ok to eat in the garden as we had dogs. We were supplied menus and went to choose. Much confusion then reigned as on going to the bar to order food, were told we would not be able to receive food for 2 hours minimum as they had a no show of staff. Asking how that was possible after booking, we were then told that we would be a priority but any walk ins would not be possible to be served. We ordered 6 adult meals and returned to the garden, where 3 other groups were sitting. After over 90 minutes we had still not received our food and were the only group left in the entire pub. On complaint and requested cancellation of meals we were told food was just being plated and an apology offered, along with a gesture of good will. The food was ok on arrival but it was simple basket meals that shouldn’t take nearly 2 hours to deliver, especially with so few other customers We used this pub several times before the new owner and whilst it was the a bit rough & ready, the pub grub was good, served efficiently even when in big groups. Since the refurb it appears to have become style over substance. The staff, whilst friendly do seem to struggle when even the slightest amount of pressure is applied to service. The kitchen seems to run the business and has a feel of the “tail wagging the dog”, with staffing issues being a regular issue. The pub has been reopened for several months so these are not teething issues. So disappointing as should and could be a great country pub for local and visitors alike.

One star is too much for this place. What started out as a pleasant evening turned into a nightmare. We sat outside because we had dogs. Our order was taken and it took a very long time to arrive. We were there for a 6.30 sitting and the pub was very quiet. The food would have been OK if it had arrived hot but it was stone cold and we then had to wait ages before the staff bought us any cutlery to eat the food with. When raising an issue with the owner, there was a complete lack of customer service. There was no apology, he was incredibly rude, didn't care at all that his customers were raising an issue about the food and service. In fact, the barman who was on his first shift, was far more concerned and helpful than the owner. It was like speaking to a sullen child who had just thrown his toys out the pram. When paying the bill he told us never to come back. We are happy to oblige. If you want cold food and appalling customer service, 100 house is the place to go!!

We were a party of 8 (2 families) and all really enjoyed our visit. We came for Sunday lunch as we were staying on a nearby campsite, and every single one of us enjoyed the lunch, empty plates all round! It was only beef or pork, but the meats were delicious and many of us said it was one of the best Sunday lunches we'd had eating out. Plenty of food with the dinners and we all had desserts too which were also delicious. We had a few wheat/gluten intolerant people with us but that wasn't an issue at all. Excellent value on both the food and drinks....for 8 of us to have 2 quality courses adult sized and a few drinks each (including pints) for around £200 these days is rare. £4 for a pint of Madri...!! Staff were lovely and the landlord was very accommodating to fit us all in. The pub looks amazing, you can see a lot of effort has gone into renovating it, and it's really paid off. My only disappointment was that we couldn't stay longer! Unfortunately the weather hampered a safe walk to and from the camp site so we drove but we could have happily stayed a few hours if we could. Which also meant we didn't get to enjoy the beer garden but I can imagine it will be amazing in the summer. Would most definitely come back 😊

The Hundred House was the first place we went to last year after restaurants started reopening and we were so impressed that we decided to return when we were in the area again this year. This time we had Sunday lunch, which was delicious. There was plenty of meat, 6 different veggies as well as potatoes, and a separate jug of gravy. I couldn't face a pudding but my husband had a sundae which I had a little taste of - lovely. There are still gazebos outside so there is plenty of room for people who would prefer not to sit inside. Service was friendly and efficient.

I spend a third of my year at a local Campsite & have been going to the hundred house for years it use to be a great pub. Our last few visits have been terrible & I’ll never visit again. This visit we preordered food we arrived on time our table was dirty & wet so we asked to have it cleaned & they just did half so we had to ask again. Then we were told the starters half of us had ordered had ran out. So I ordered a pint ive had to drink the cider last couple of visits because the butty Bach which I used to drink a fair bit of is like terrible there these days. So I looked forward to a Sunday lunch it turned up & the Yorkshire pud was rock hard so was the stuffing & the parsnips, the roasties were just about edible. Its the 1st time in my life I haven’t eaten a Yorkshire pud but it was inedible! The veg was good to be fair all though we had to ask for extra & condiments & cutlery the service is absolutely shocking & I’m not fussy person. We were asked if everything was ok with our meal so we told the young lad our problems then he did nothing about it. I went to pay the bill & told the guy at the till how bad it was & he did say I could speak to the landlord but to be honest It was to late by then & I was pretty fed up. The landlady did collar my sister on the way out & offered to refund £30 of the £85 bill but as I payed for the meal she declined & I’d rather stick to my side of the deal pay what was owed & let everyone I meet know what my experiences were. If you want poor service bad food & rubbish beer this is the place for you.

Booked a lunch for 6 including one baby and a dog. Offered inside of outside on arrival and we went in as it was really hot. Limited menu on the day we arrived due to technical issues in the kitchen but more than enough choice to suit all the different palettes. The mixed and cheese ploughman’s were very tasty and generous. The chilli had plenty of kick and the cheese burger and chicken kids meal were yummy. All meals were under a tenner each and pints at £3.50 or less made for a modest bill. At the end they even gave us a lift back to our campsite in their courtesy bud after quite an arduous walk there as the route wasn’t particularly buggy friendly (though it was beautiful!)They are happy to come and pick you up from Fforest Fields Caravan and Camping site if you give them a callThe pub is still a work in progress as the current owners took on the pub and 3 weeks later lockdown happened! Old school decor at this stage but they are working on it. Friendly honest kid and dog friendly pub with plenty of outside space.

We first went to this pub years ago and revisited on 20th July during a glamping visit to Fforest Fields caravan park which is just a mile or so up the road. I used facebook messenger to book our outside table for the evening and was told that a free shuttlebus could collect us from the camp site or could take us home. As we had dogs with us we decided to walk there ( through fields and woodland at the end of the camp) and arrange to be dropped off after dining instead. What a wonderful service! We arrived at the pub and it looks so much nicer than previous years. The pub was well kept, friendly and the food was really excellent, amily friendly pub grub. Not pretensious or overpriced and exactly what we were looking for with 3 children with us. We had chilli, fish, pizzas, pasta and everything was all seasoned and cooked perfectly. Some great vegan options on the menu too if that's your thing. We were really happy with the whole experience and Steve was friendly and helpful. Well done Hundred House, keep doing what you do! We hope to see you again next year.

We had starters which were fine, but one of the main courses, lasagne was obviously a left over from lunch and it was doubtful that it was actually made on the premises . It was not good , overcooked in the microwave , rubbery and dry. When we finished we waited for over half an hour , hoping someone was coming to clear the table. No such luck, nobody was interested and we were clearly abandoned. So we got up went to the bar, paid the bill and left and guess what? All the female staff were sitting outside at a table having a drink obviously not interested in the customers. Wont be visiting that place ever again.

We are new to the area, have only lived in Hundred House for 7 weeks. We hadn't been out for a meal for over 18 months due to personal issues and lock down. We did book a table which was inside, it was a lovely evening they moved us to a lovely table outside with music. I thought the staff was very friendly, and the owner 'Dee' one hell of a character. Dee's husband Steve was cooking the pizza's in a proper pizza oven and each one was put in a box, at first we thought they were for take-a-way, but no, we thought this was a superb way in serving, if you couldn't manage to eat it all you could take it away with you. I had the scampi hubby had hunters chicken, I don't usually like chips with skin on but oh my they where delicious. They were very busy so food at the time did take a while in coming, but to be honest with the setting and company it didn't matter. Their bitter was amazing, we did ask what it was but we all looked at one another and started laughing, none of us could pronounce it. We can't wait to go back, just pleased it's only a couple of miles down the road. We fully recommend this wonderful pub with fabulous staff, nothing was too much trouble for them

The staff were all lovely, the service was quick and efficient and the food was great. Typical pub Fayre done really well! I had Hunters chicken with, as my Nan would say “real chips” hand cut not frozen rubbish. My wife had gammon that was a very generous size and thick cut. Her jacket potato was soft in the inside crispy on the skin just the way she likes it! To top it all off they serve a lovely pint and when we had to go they kindly popped my pint it to this ingenious drinks carrier so there was zero spillage in the way back to our digs! They really did make a great effort to be helpful and welcoming despite battling the awful weather! Looking forward to return trip when hopefully we can eat inside.

Absolutely shocking experience with this place. Phoned 4 times prior to planned evening visit for myself and 2 children and no one answered the phone, eventually found a mobile number on Facebook and secured a booking. At no point was I advised that the table would be outside and not under cover. The booking was later than I had hoped, but I understood that it would be busy due to Eat Out to Help Out, so that was ok, but I had no plan B (i.e. nothing else bought in to eat that evening)On arrival, the 2 staff working were both in a flap and not communicating particularly well. It took quite some time for anyone to come over to me and advise where the table was. All tables were outside, some were outside and some were under cover. At this point an epic thunderstorm started (which had been forecasted) and I was advised that my table was outside and not under cover. Clearly we couldn't eat there, given the weather. The manager was called. He offered no alternative, was extremely rude and suggested that I was being unreasonable to expect us to not getting wet when eating our evening meal. At that point, I elected to leave. Whether the food is great or not is immaterial. We never had chance to get that far. Having walked there from our holiday accommodation, we then had to walk back to our holiday accommodation in torrential rain, before driving to Builth, buying food and coming back and cooking it. Clearly an unfortunate chain of events but could have been easily avoided by a) up to date contact information on Facebook, TripAdvisor, Website etc and b) stating the location of the available table at the time of booking.

This is a country pub, about 5miles from Builthwells and should have been a welcome stop. As we are both vegetarian we chose the vegetable curry with rice. I have no Idea what they think a curry is, but what we got was the left over veg. from the Sunday dinner with a weak curry sort of sauce. With a charge of £20 including 2 soft drinks, when the poor quality of this concoction was pointed out, back came the stock answer, " We haven't had complaints before, that gives some indication of their usual customer base this was best described as a rip off meal, the only consolation being that we won't be going there ever again and I would strongly advise any one passing to just drive on past at speed.

We have just spent our second holiday in Wales this year and again ate at the Hundred House Inn on several occasions as it was about 5 minutes away from us. We were greeted like old friends by the landlord and landlady.

Arrived at the Hundred House Inn on an extremely wet & windy night (Storm Callum) and were made most welcome. Was going to have the Roast Chicken but decided to go for something different. Always a bit wary of pies which state they have been home-made but chose to have the Lamb & Mint Pie (definitely made by the landlady). It was absolutely delicious - large pieces of lamb which melted in your mouth with a lovely shortcrust pastry. Would recommend you to try it.

Just visited for the second time while staying locally. My hubby had ham egg and chips and the ham was a lovely shade of grey green. Obviously there was no way he was eating that. The owner offered a replacement but we were that put off I couldn’t eat my lasagne and over cooked chips. Thoroughly disappointed as we had eaten here a few years ago and the food was fine. Was still charged for the lasagne and chips. Needless to say we won’t be visiting again.

Dropped in here after being turned away at two busier restaurants along our route home so were were famished, slightly light-headed and a tad desperate and were very relieved to be given a very warm, friendly welcome by the landlord and seated rapidly, our order taken by a great young server and soon our meals came. Michelin starred it ain't - this is no gastro-pub - traditional fare in large portions. I had Chicken Tikka Masala with half rice half chips - and I still got a large portion of garden peas too. My wife had Cottage Pie - stodgy but filling, generous and most welcome! Great value. Ideal for walkers, cyclists, tourers, campervan-ers etc. They get trade from the caravan site and the food is aimed at this sector - no frills, no fuss traditional pub food served efficiently. Thank you for your hospitality. You dont get hospitality like this at Michelin starred places and gastro pubs - and in my humble opinion it the most vital ingredient on the menu!

Just visited here after a walk through glorious countryside from forest field campsite. Lovely service and great food, gammon filled the plate, kids loved the lasagna and the wife had the curry special which was lovely. A welcome stop with some good ales.

We stayed at a campsite nearby and went out for food to have a break from cooking. We went on a Thursday and it was steak night. Couldn't fault it, cooked to perfection and daughter had cottage pie. We were all impressed and would love to come back when we're back in the area. Also would like to thank the friendly staff.

A quaint, gem of a pub. The owners provide a very warm welcome and staff are friendly. We only popped in for a pint and pudding. The chocolate fudge cake and apple crumble were amazing! The food looked to be of fantastic value and good quality. The beer garden is in a nice sunny position and my dogs had a good fuss of everyone!

It’s only open lunchtimes and evenings but very welcoming, proper pub grub and the man certainly knows how to keep real ale. No dogs inside but the garden is lovely.

Can only comment on what I've seen. There are other reviews that describe the dirtiness so I won't go into details but by the time we visited the restaurant and the bathroom we had already ordered as sat outside with the dogs.

Don’t turn up for 11:00 when they are supposed to be open. Our whole family walked from Fforest Fields and waited until 11:40 and they were still closed. If you plan on visiting then wait until after 13:00.

We were all very excited about dinner at the hundred house inn,as menu looked basic but most dishes were homemade.on arriving in the pub we ordered drinks and were both given dirty glasses.we sat down at a table that had dirty place mats.at this point we went to the toilets.have never seen anything like it.absolute filth.i always say if your toilets disgusting what’s your kitchens like!!! My partner then went into the men’s toilets and was just as horrified.at this point we got a cab and had a lovley clean meal at a different pub.cant judge on the food but I can’t eat in a dirty pub!!

Popped in with friends and our kids for lunch. Such a shame dogs aren’t allowed in as pub was empty and the only two groups there were dog owners sitting outside (it was freezing)! Anyway, we were hungry and managed to park car right in front of pub window so felt ‘ok’ enough to leave dog in the car. Warmed ourselves by the log burger! Waitress was lovely and got just what we wanted...good old ‘pub grub’... ham egg and chips and amazing cheese toasties! Chips were lovely. Kids made to feel welcome. Nearly 10/10....just please

Don’t be put off by the dated decor! We were reluctant to eat here but we were so glad that we did. We sat in the conservatory on a wet Easter weekend and had a delicious meal. The steaks were great and I had the homemade lamb and mint pie which was stunning. Friendly service and reasonably priced. I hope you like it as much as we did!

Went with friends for an early dinner midweek. Nice place, shows signs of a hard life but for a pub in mid Wales on a wet Wednesday evening it was fine. It was "steak night" so leaving a good looking menu we all opted for...

We called here on a cold and wintery Sunday evening two weeks ago. The pub was busy with a Christening party at the time of our visit but we were made to feel very welcome. Our food was freshly cooked, delicious and plentiful. A good selection of beers too. Thank you again for looking after us so well.

We stopped at this traditional pub on New Years Day and it was just what we wanted. There was a good real fire in the bar and a good menu of bar snacks. The sandwiches were first class and the service was warm and friendly. What more to ask for?

Friendly staff, hearty, simple menu, great coffee. We stopped here after walking Crickhowell to Brecon via the Black Mountains. They weren’t bothered about muddy boots but we took off at door anyway. Toilets immaculate. Chef’s playlist that could be heard in the dining area - not a bad song on it for about an hour. Good on him!!

We stopped here to break up a long journey. Straight away it seemed very unwelcoming. My son is autistic, and because he seemed more comfortable in the corner section we asked to move tables. We were advised that was the dog friendly section, and obviously we would move if needed, it was quiet at the time, but this seem like an inconvenience to move tables. Then when my son was wandering in the pub, this seemed to annoy a couple of guests, and I know he seemed hyperactive but these are some of his autistic traits, this seemed to annoy one couple in particular, where the man was making very rude comments ( I know you have no control over who comes into your pub) but overall it just felt very unwelcoming in there. Are kids not allowed in here? It didn't seem like it. We come past this pub often, so we will not be stopping here again.

We dropped in without booking hoping to get lunch. I was with my friend and her disabled dad. They were able to offer us a table and from the start the experience was excellent. The staff member ( I think it was the Manager) came out to the car park to see if we needed any help with the wheelchair. We were promptly seated and drinks and food order taken quickly. All members of staff were polite and friendly. The food came in a good waiting time and we were all really pleased with the food. I had an ultimate burger, my friend a Thai beef dish and her dad an all day breakfast. Great portion sizes, hot and all tasty. Really reasonably priced as well ! Thankyou for such a great experience

My wife and I were staying in a B&B in Berriew which didn’t cook evening meals on a Sunday, so we decided to try this inn for our dinner. We arrived without reservations, but were quickly shown to a table by a very pleasant member of staff who immediately took our drinks order. The drinks arrived and we ordered our food soon after. It didn’t take long for the food to arrive, and it looked very well presented. My wife had lasagne, which she told me was hot and tasty, however my steak and ale pie with chips was not quite so. Again, my meal was hot, but the meat in the pie was very grisly, which was a shame as the pastry was excellent. The chips and beans with my meal were first class, so absolutely no problems with them. As we ate our meal the chef came out and asked if everything was okay with the food. I told him about the meat in the pie, to which he laughed and then walked away. Now, what’s the point in asking me about my meal if you are not going to take action when you receive such a comment? Anyway, we finished the meal and went up to the bar to pay, at which time we were asked again if all was okay. I told the member of staff at the bar about the meat and this time it had a totally different outcome, in that someone, whom I took to be the manager, became involved, and she showed concern about the fact that my meal had not been perfect. She also told me that she would be having words with the supplier about said pie. We ended the conversation coming to an amicable agreement of a goodwill gesture, so I’m more than happy with the outcome. If it had not have been for the issue with the pie then this meal would have been almost perfect, in that the staff were lovely, the restaurant was clean and in a good state of decoration, and the service was first rate. My only other comment would be that the prices were a tad dearer than around my home city of Leicester, but not unusual for a country inn.
