Whilst entertaining important business associates I stumbled upon this fine establishment. Nestled in the heart of the town, this spectacular restaurant took us by surprise. The atmospheric lighting, the carefully curated decor and the maitre d (I believe was called Ben) was extremely welcoming. The owner, Oliver, was very friendly and very informative about the origin of the Michelin grade menu and had a charm that was not wasted on my party.

Love visiting HQ bar. Always a warm welcome from the well dressed owner and his lovely bar staff who makes superb cocktails and goes above and beyond to keep customers happy! A well varied menu is available for all to enjoy. The bar is made cosy and comfortable with the professional scattering of cushions around the booths and candlelit tables. The evening is then finished off with great music from the resident DJ and dancing.

Made to feel very welcome greeted by the owner who was dressed very smartly in a tailored suit and a well manicured beard (James Bond cross Tom Hardy Vibes), showed us to our booth in the corner were we were allowed time to look over the menu we started with cocktails a nice selection to choose from and crafted by hand by the attentive staff (which is nice to see with all the premixed tap ones most places have). Nice way to start the evening which meant we were able to relax and allow the evening to flow naturally without feeling under pressure to relinquish our table for the next guests. A nice selection of back ground music playing later replaced with a dj playing and mixing a varied selection of tunes.

We were so lucky to dine at this restaurant after a 4 year waiting list for this exclusive fine dining experience. I have dined at every restaurant in Mayfair and it simply wasn't comparable to HQ Tavistock Ben greeted my team of stockbrokers in a slim tuxedo and hand fed us a 10 course meal. Highly recommended.

Greeted by the Suave owner on arrival and shown to our table. A nice corner table atmospherically lit. Started the evening with a some nice cocktails and a home made cucumber water to cleanse the palette between the cocktails which were created from scratch not like a lot these days that are premixed, enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere never felt rushed at all and the evening just flowed smoothly. Nicely presented and good choice of Italian uk danish and Russian. Overall the Evening was relaxed to start with then nicely flowed into a fun more lively atmosphere. Would definitely recommend and be returning.

From the minute I arrived I was made to feel welcome by the two friendly staff. I needed wifi and they provided the password to the free wifi, which is super fast for a restaurant. ( I was working with large creative document uploads and downloads and had zero issues. Coffee is fab, and I am a bit of a coffee snob. I ordered a classic burger, and had to make a few tweaks due to my diet restrictions and they were more than accommodating, offering additional things I could eat. Turning what would have been a burger with no bun (which i usually end up with when eating out) into a delicious juicy burger with cheese, and huge mixed salad with olives and yummy slaw!! Service is literally fantastic. I will defo be using this spot to work remotely, grab a bite, or just pop in for coffee and cake!! (cake choices are great!! and homemade!!)

We had a good sandwich, nicely presented. Service was ok but why oh why do people never know what the 'soup of the day ' is. I didn't like the fact that there is a table for two right by the counter with the cakes and scones on it. There was a man sitting there with a bad cough and he spent the whole time coughing over the cakes which people were then going to buy! Needless to say we were not tempted to one after our sandwich.

What can I say we went in on a Saturday night for a drink as we are tourists we don't know the area. Absolutely fabulous. Ordered cocktails although at first I thought ouch £6.50 for one but was surprised when the girl said they were 2 for 1 but had to be the same cocktail so we ended up with 2 candy one's and 2 woo woos which was great however the first cocktail we had to drink very quickly so our second one wouldn't taste of water but that was fine. If we were drinking the same cocktail then we wouldn't have this problem so we can't complain. The staff were so well dressed and smily and they were very polite and didn't make us feel uncomfortable at all. On leaving even the door staff were pleasant and told us to enjoy our night. Most definitely would return if I'm back down this way

Never disappointed with this out of the way place. Relaxing atmosphere and a menu so different from menus offered around Tavistock. Friendly staff and minimal waiting time.

Two for one cocktails a joke, 25 min wait at least with some people not receiving their order at all. Manager not bothered with customer relations and would recommend avoiding this venue at all costs, take your hard earned cash elsewhere! Do not go here in a group you will be seriously disappointed:-(

Myself and a friend visited at lunchtime and ordered a cream tea for one and a pot of decaf tea for one. The cream tea arrived with a giant pot of tea. When asked if it was all for the cream tea it became obvious that it was for 2 people and the waitress rushed off to get the forgotten decaf pot of tea for one, which was understandably a lot smaller! The issue was with the cream tea which came with just 1 medium scone and cost £4.00. Considering the tea costs £1.30 in the menu, I was paying £2.70 for 1 scone, cream & jam! Outrageously priced! When asking the waitress if that was usual she said, "that's the way it is here!" To add insult to injury she then said, "and you do have a really large pot of tea!" As I didn't order a pot of tea for 2 and I couldn't drink a pot of tea for 2, her attitude was pretty poor. Working within 100m of this cafe, we thought we might visit regularly but not after that - we'll return to Cafe Liaison where we are assured good food and reasonable prices served by pleasant staff!

This was very much a surprise find, we have walked past HQ many times without given it a second glance. We gave it a try on a whim and were most impressed - it was comfortable, the service was good - as was the food.

Visited this bistro on a day trip to dartmoor. Husband had a lovely chorizo sausage style sandwich and I had the most amazing delicious sticky orange cake ever! With clotted cream. Nice tea in a china pot which I love. Really nice place friendly service. Only minor complaint would of liked a bit bigger piece of cake as it was so yummy!

I have been to HQ quite a few times recently. It has become a firm favourite in my family! Mum / daughter lunch out, meeting with friends, partner and myself treating ourselves - any excuse. We commute from Plymouth to Tavistock purely to eat at HQ because the food is that good! I have managed to move on from my topside sandwiches and I am hooked on the middle eastern flatbread with steamed chicken, shareholder aubergine, houmous, and pickled lemons - wow! Yesterday as the weather was hot and sunny there was melon and ginger punch on the menu too. Last summer we had Pimms. There are always scrummy cakes on offer too, all cooked by the owner. Lovely atmosphere, great food with a difference, and good value.

First visit to Tavistock, right opposite the riverside car park we saw a very unassuming and unexciting looking place for lunch and ventured in to be pleasantly surprised. The staff were lovely, prices reasonable. The sandwiches were so tasty, accompanied by a side dish of salad and fruit. It was beautifull presented. Why can't all sandwichs be like this, simple but imaginative?

Conveniently placed opposite the lane from the riverside carpark, this excellent little restaurant and coffee house served up a beef sandwich of epic proportions and quality. Super pink beef and artisan white bread with a fine touch of horseradish made for a memorable experience. Cheerful and prompt service AND they kindly looked after my shopping for 24 hours - because I had forgotten it - probably because of the excitement caused by that wonderful beef!! A nice treat to round off my business trip to this handsome town. Thanks to all at HQ.

My wife and I have visited HQ several times for lunch time snacks and drinks. The service is excellent and the food is reasonably priced and prepared/presented really well.It is beautifully decorated with a Spanish theme being the main part of the decor. They also have really pleasant flamenco guitar music playing in the background which adds to the general ambience of the place. It is open from mid day until 3pm for lunch time servings. During the evening (as if by magic the whole place is transformed into a really nice cocktail bar, and they have regular evening entertainment mainly at the weekend. I highly recommend HQ to everyone, and we will continue our visits on a regualr basis in the future. John Kilkelly

I discovered this small, newish place accidentally when looking for a late lunch away from the bustle of the market. The variety of sandwich fillings and salads was excellent (for example brie, salmon, mushrooms, chicken, beef, veg...) with a wide choice of breads for the sandwiches and good crunchy crisps. My salad of pear with Parma ham and a good mix of leaves, radish, olives etc was delicious and the dressing was tasty. Service was quick and the atmosphere was restful, with a choice of tables or armchairs. Prices were very reasonable. There are cream teas too, and in the evenings it becomes a wine bar. I'll make a point of going back next time I'm in Tavistock.

Discovered this wonderful little cafe only a few days ago and have returned with my daughter today and now, she too, is smitten!HQ doubles as a wine bar by night and the owner's lovely mum runs it as a cafe during the day.The establishment is small and cosy, but bright and inviting too. The room is divided up with tables and chairs on one side and comfy chairs and coffee tables on the other, and masses of cushions adorn the bench seat that runs along the walls in this section. But more than the atmosphere, it is the 'posh sandwiches', cakes, cream teas, that are the scene stealers here. A few days ago I had Brie, cucumber and tomato sandwiches served in olive bread, today it was the roast beef sandwiches with brown bread. You have a dish packed with salad and crisps on the side too. The quality of the food is superb, their lattes really good, and the presentation is excellent. And what is more we thought the prices very reasonable too. This will be my number one place to pop in for a coffee and a bite to eat. Super place, very friendly staff - I really recommend this as a true little gem!
