Been going here since it opened. Food excellent and staff helpful and friendly. Has maintained great service and reliable food.

I went for the Soup and Sandwich combo. Delicious Chicken and Mushroom soup with Tuna and Red Onion sandwich on brown bread. £11.50. Lovely views over East Lothian

What a wonderful find. This cafe was recommended by a friend. The fantastic home baking included cream cakes, imperial biscuits, assorted scones, fruit slice, shortbread and lots more, baked to perfection. Breakfast is available and snacks for lunch. The coffee was really good and the service friendly. The views over the surrounding countryside were fabulous. What a fabulous restaurant!.

Great place to stop on what is a beautiful route from Edinburgh to Newcastle.

This was the first place we chose for a meal after returning to Scotland after a year, and it couldn’t have been a better choice. We both enjoyed the broccoli and bacon soup with a delicious cheese scone. It was incredibly tasty and filling. We arrived quite hungry and left with full bellies and big smiles on our faces. The staff was very friendly, and the view was stunning. If you get the chance to visit, please do—you won’t regret it!

Food was good, place was clean with spectacular views. Great service and just off the main road so very handy, I’d go back for a meal!

What a lovely little coffee shop. We discovered this on our way to Edinburgh unexpectedly and stopped in for a coffee. Excellent coffee! The staff were very friendly and welcoming. I didn't have anything to eat, but my Dad had the poached eggs and smoked salmon on sourdough and said it was very tasty. They had plenty of gluten-free options. I'd recommend trying.

We found Soutra on our way south after a holiday. it was late in the afternoon and we felt lucky to find somewhere still open. a good selection of cakes and drinks. very friendly staff in light,airy and clean surroundings overlooking farm land. It is definitely a place worth noting for future trips.

Don’t wait for anyone to tell you it’s not waitress service- you could sit all day. Scone poor- not fresh and not even heated up to disguise the fact.

This is a great cafe. In a great location and has plenty of car parking. Couple of minor suggestions. They should make more of how much local and Scottish produce they sell. A few notices possibly of where the products were sourced. Also, there is so much history nearby: Soutra Aisle and Roman Road are two examples. Maybe a couple of notice boards telling the story of the area.

Nice setting and plenty of space between tables. Cakes looked nice but didn’t have any. Food service on the slow side, couldn’t help notice our food languishing on the pass for too long. Ordered poached eggs with smoked salmon on sourdough. Sounded a lot nicer than it was. Eggs badly overcooked and salmon was cheap and dry. The staff - mostly young girls- seemed disinterested and inattentive. Coffee was bland, straight from a one touch machine judging by the taste of it. Wouldn’t rush back.

We stopped more in hope than expectation, at 4 30, half expecting the common ‘ sorry, too late’ we encounter all too frequently. This was the opposite. Service was pleasant and efficient and the food was great. In addition, we had the most fabulous views all the way to North Berwick. Will definitely return when we are next over in the east coast.

Great cafe, food and location. We stopped here some years back and have not forgotten it so called in again recently as we were back in the area. We had the full Scottish breakfast!! The views are fantastic, with a large car park making a stop here easy.

Really nice place to stop if you're on your way to the boat in Newcastle. We ate well. The toasts were good, the cappuccinos less so. Highly recommended

Between us we had a homemade quiche, a gluten-free bacon, brie and redcurrent filled toastie plus a poached eggs and smoked salmon on sour dough. The quiche and toastie were good as was the salmon but the poached eggs were overcooked. We had a lovely view over the Firth of Forth all the way to Fife with it being nice weather.

It was by chance that we stopped here for a coffee break. This cafe is very friendly and offers good pastries. The staff there is very friendly.

This place has changed a lot my baked potato was horribly dry and coronation chicken was also dry and well.over cooked chicken into the bargain just not pleasant at all . So sad to put this review out but I was so disappointed for the 3rd time so won't be back for a while

Absolute terrible and totally screwed us for the rest of the day they don't have a finish time for their breakfast menu 20 minutes wait in a queue to be told that then everywhere around had stopped serving breakfast definitely won't bother going back Absolute joke of a plane breakfast is stopped serving at 10.30 just FYI

Only stopped on the hope of a decent coffee and nothing else. Had read up on what reviews were available before deciding whether to bother. Had dog with me so as unsure whether allowed took him with me but left him outside to go and speak first before deciding what to do. On entering it appeared maybe I was somewhat ‘off the beaten track’ all eyes upon me (customers and staff) which was somewhat unwelcoming….on approaching counter and engaging with staff I actually said what’s everyone staring at? Apparantly I’m supposed to wait at the door and someone would sit me. 🙄 If there was a sign I missed it, maybe have a meeter and greeter at the door so no one feels like I did. However on feeling the way I did I’d already decided on the walk to the counter that Takeout was going to be preferable! Versus asking if a dog was allowed in. I did say to the girl that I felt like I was going to be linched. First impressions always count for me so wouldn’t go back, coffee was decent and skimmed milk a bonus, reasonable price too.

Great menu options that are a bit different to the normal. Great views. Very busy so you will wait a little after ordering. Traybake are very delicious but could do with to be a bit smaller or share.

Excellent coffee shop that's worth a detour for. I had a white chocolate and apricot scone - delicious, and a coffee. It's counter service, so don't wait for anyone to come over. I would suggest booking (especially on holiday time).

A lovely place to stop for a break and coffee before hitting the Edinburgh by-pass. Good selection of food available. Friendly and helpful service from the staff. Very nice view to the east. On our visit it seemed to be occupied by a large number of locals, which is no doubt a good sign.

Great place to have a wee bite. It was very very busy. Food very good. Great view. Staff very friendly. Unfortunately it was too loud for me and my husband. Would be better if something could be done about the acoustic.

Good home cooking, staff very welcoming and reasonable prices. What's not to like?

I come here most weekends, always great selection off home made cakes and food is always amazing, my own complaint is the breakfast fry up could be on longer and sometimes when it’s busy it’s really loud. Apart from these small points I’ve never had a bad meal or experience and cakes are always fresh.

Hubby and myself come here regularly- we have never been disappointed. The food is tasty and the staff are welcoming! We often recommend to friends,and they agree on the quality of the food.

Good place for a snack or meal coffee cakes etc. . We ordered Toasties and coffee. Coffee came well before food . I mentioned this . I got another coffee free as had finished would have been cold by time food arrived. Serving staff very nice and helpful. Think more in kitchen when busy . Lovely views and free parking

Popped in for breakfast rolls coffee and tea, top quality bacon and black pudding perfectly cooked, not the cheapest around, but better that than poor food, well worth a visit.

My friend took me along for lunch. We couldn't get a table straight away and were asked if we wanted to wait. Said yes and walked back to wait in the car. The girl came out about 3 mins later for us. We got a great seat at the window. Great views. We got the soup and sandwich combo. Service was quick. A lovely big bowl of homemade soup and sandwiches packed with chicken. It was delicious and the staff are all so friendly. A fantastic place. Can't wait to take my other friends. The staff there work very hard x

We were a family of 13 returning from a holiday and stopped off at Sutra on our route home. Lovely breakfast. Staff were friendly and very accommodating.

Set at the foot of the Lammermuirs with stunning views towards the coast. Place always bustling with a warm friendly atmosphere, first class freshly prepared food and home made baking serving to none! Staff are always friendly attentive and welcoming. The service is excellent and nothing is ever too much trouble. Lots of regulars and passing visitors.

Great little cafe in the Scottish Borders. I have passed this place a couple of times, but this is the first time I've been in and was pleasantly surprised. Friendly staff, and a good choice of food and drinks. Good relaxing atmosphere and some beautiful views from the widow seats. It's definitely worth a visit if you get the chance.

Excellent choice of fresh hot food, sandwiches and homemade cakes to refuel you on your journey. The staff are friendly and efficient. Choice of sitting inside or outside in the enclosed seating area is good, weather permitting. We would highly recommend stopping at Soutra.

We had a very nice lunch today at Soutra. The panini was very nice overloaded with cheese and ham. We also had a delicious strawberry tart and a tray bake , the staff were friendly and service was good.Definitely be back to sample other tasty things on their menu, well worth a visit. H&H

Great location, really good food. Staff were nice and friendly and helped advise and tailor my food to accommodate for my Lactose intolerance. If you are travelling up or down the A68 this is definitely the best place to stop for a coffee break or a nice bite to eat.

I do like this cafe, food is good and the staff are great, however it could really do with some interior decor. Feels kind of like a barn, not cosy.

Wonderful oasis in a very baren area. We travelled from Carlisle, and from Hawick, were looking for a coffee shop/ cafe. Wonderful cakes, coffee, and tea, lovely sunny day so sat outside with our dog
