Good home cooking, staff very welcoming and reasonable prices. What's not to like?

I come here most weekends, always great selection off home made cakes and food is always amazing, my own complaint is the breakfast fry up could be on longer and sometimes when it’s busy it’s really loud. Apart from these small points I’ve never had a bad meal or experience and cakes are always fresh.

A favourite stop on our trips between England and Scotland. Very popular for cooked breakfasts cakes and of course coffee. Great views from the windows

Hubby and myself come here regularly- we have never been disappointed. The food is tasty and the staff are welcoming! We often recommend to friends,and they agree on the quality of the food.

Good place for a snack or meal coffee cakes etc. . We ordered Toasties and coffee. Coffee came well before food . I mentioned this . I got another coffee free as had finished would have been cold by time food arrived. Serving staff very nice and helpful. Think more in kitchen when busy . Lovely views and free parking

Long drive from Yorkshire and finally a coffee stop and a loo, much needed. Tea and scone, panini and a sandwich for hungry passengers and me the driver, dad.

Popped in for breakfast rolls coffee and tea, top quality bacon and black pudding perfectly cooked, not the cheapest around, but better that than poor food, well worth a visit.

Great place to stop off heading north or south. Simple food, well presented and helpful staff 😁🍽️

Service slow, coffee not great. Too crowded, need to restrict seating instead of cramming people in.. think staff are probably overworked and haven't enough staff working on busy days.

Great cafe with good food coffee and cheery staff. Hadn't been there since before the pandemic, and the food is just as good, with good sized portions. I would definitely recommend this cafe.

My friend took me along for lunch. We couldn't get a table straight away and were asked if we wanted to wait. Said yes and walked back to wait in the car. The girl came out about 3 mins later for us. We got a great seat at the window. Great views. We got the soup and sandwich combo. Service was quick. A lovely big bowl of homemade soup and sandwiches packed with chicken. It was delicious and the staff are all so friendly. A fantastic place. Can't wait to take my other friends. The staff there work very hard x

Had haggis, neeps in a jacket potato. Abs fabulous. Also meringue afterwards lovely but a bit too big....

We were a family of 13 returning from a holiday and stopped off at Sutra on our route home. Lovely breakfast. Staff were friendly and very accommodating.

Set at the foot of the Lammermuirs with stunning views towards the coast. Place always bustling with a warm friendly atmosphere, first class freshly prepared food and home made baking serving to none! Staff are always friendly attentive and welcoming. The service is excellent and nothing is ever too much trouble. Lots of regulars and passing visitors.

What a gem. Definitely not using the A1 southbound again. This cafe is great. Generous portions of everything and homemade cakes, delicious! Friendly, chatty staff.

A terrific place to stop for coffee/lunch. Great views out the back. Fantastic range of cakes:would have happily eaten them all!

Great little cafe in the Scottish Borders. I have passed this place a couple of times, but this is the first time I've been in and was pleasantly surprised. Friendly staff, and a good choice of food and drinks. Good relaxing atmosphere and some beautiful views from the widow seats. It's definitely worth a visit if you get the chance.

Excellent choice of fresh hot food, sandwiches and homemade cakes to refuel you on your journey. The staff are friendly and efficient. Choice of sitting inside or outside in the enclosed seating area is good, weather permitting. We would highly recommend stopping at Soutra.

Nice coffee nice cakes and plenty of naughty cake scones and tarts to choose from. Well worth a visit and on a nice day lovely views to the hills.

Food was good if not a little overpriced for a takeaway as same price as sitting in. Fresh coffee was good

We had a very nice lunch today at Soutra. The panini was very nice overloaded with cheese and ham. We also had a delicious strawberry tart and a tray bake , the staff were friendly and service was good.Definitely be back to sample other tasty things on their menu, well worth a visit. H&H

Great location, really good food. Staff were nice and friendly and helped advise and tailor my food to accommodate for my Lactose intolerance. If you are travelling up or down the A68 this is definitely the best place to stop for a coffee break or a nice bite to eat.

I do like this cafe, food is good and the staff are great, however it could really do with some interior decor. Feels kind of like a barn, not cosy.

Dropped in by chance. Friendly atmosphere, basic home prepared cafe style food. Would visit again now I know its there.

Great place to stop and good views

Wonderful oasis in a very baren area. We travelled from Carlisle, and from Hawick, were looking for a coffee shop/ cafe. Wonderful cakes, coffee, and tea, lovely sunny day so sat outside with our dog

We have driven past here many times but this time decided to stop and were glad we did. We had coffee - nice and hot and in big mugs :-) and warmed scones. There's a nice looking menu for brunch, soup, sandwiches, baked potatoes etc and portion sizes seem pretty big. The staff were all friendly too and although they were busy still found time to smile and be nice. A great find x

We stoped with our motorbike for a Mocha and some cakes. Great place. 14 years the owner is there. You need to stop, home made everything and delicious. Very warm and kind people. Highly recommend. We will come back for sure.

Soutra is a pleasant cafe located on the A68. A fairly wide range of savoury snacks and sweets/cakes is available along with teas, coffees and cold drinks. Partial table service is offered in that you place your order at the counter and it is then brought to your table. Service is friendly. I was surprised when my local sausage in a roll came with 2 lorne sausages! A wee bit much for me 😀 The caramel shortcake (which I had on a previous visit) is scrumptious 😋 There are several tables outside for when the weather is fair.

We visit Soutra fairly regularly for coffee or lunch which is about a three quarter hour drive from our home. Always excellent friendly service and good food with plenty of choice. Today I have to give a GOLD star to Rosemary as she is the first person from any coffee shop - and I've been to many - to make my latte exactly how I request it. Looking forward to our next visit already.

Great stop off the A68 southbound (access is trickier northbound, I'm sure you'll be fine) into a large gravel car park. The wait to be seated on entry wasn't long at all, browse the menu at your table then order and pay at the counter-3 or 4 hanging around waiting for their take out. Plenty of polite staff with a tips jar at the till. Not a long wait for our bacon rolls on a Sunday afternoon, but there are notices on the table reminding you that others may be waiting for a seat. Windows overlooking the Forth etc. if you can get a good spot.

First visit yesterday cracking wee place breakfast was spot on wife also love poached eggs on crumpets she said brilliant idea

Been many years since we were here last - lovely friendly and helpful staff, good food, amazing cakes - was full so considering the rise in Covid perhaps some of the windows could have been slightly open to improve air flow.

Had the best sandwich I have ever had in my life and it's a long life 😊 staff excellent and service quick. Will certainly return and highly recommend 👍😘

Very nice place! We stopped to eat breakfast and it was very tasty. Very good scones and good coffee! Service was also very nice.

We were hoping to stop for a savoury snack (sandwiches or baked potatoes) but when we got there at 3:30pm they told us the kitchen was closed. As cakes and drinks were available we ordered coffees, hot chocolates and cakes. The cakes were nice but we waited ages for the hot chocolate and when it arrived it was cold! Disappointing!

In at 3:30 and told kitchens closed even for just a few toasties - menu says kitchen last orders at 4:30 and you are open till 5?? Had a hot chocolate and was only just luke warm… sort it out. Cakes nice but it’s not hard to make a decent cake is it so no points there.

Terrific views looking North and the Empire Biscuit was a treat 🤗

Great staff and food and a lovely place to stop

You get a lovely latte and mocha here plus their soup and a sandwich is worth the money and I recommend the fruit scones and cherry and walnut cake

We went late on, but service was good, friendly and attentive. Vegetarian and GF options. Nice view over the countryside. Handy to stop before pressing on to Edinburgh.

Good coffee and excellent service, good have been a bit warmer, maybe it was because I was sitting near the door

Lovely 'little' place to get a nice bite to eat. Can be very noisy at times due to the acoustics of hard surfaces everywhere. 1 star deducted as the tables need looking at for cleanliness. The rattan style furnishings accumulate every piece of food and dirt in all the little crevices which need seeing to daily.

Always excellent be it for breakfast, lunch or coffee and cake. Good quality food. Lovely friendly staff too.

We stopped here on our way up to the east coast of Scotland and it was well worth the stop.The staff are friendly and the food and drink was really lovely. varieties of soup, sandwiches, toasties, jacket potatoes and cakes available. There was also a small specials board available too. premises all very clean, as were the facilities. Definitely be stopping here again if we are passing.

Great stop-off point in a long journey. Large snack , meal and treat menu. Spacious and a popular place with locals. Always a good sign.

Nice little cafe tucked away on the A68. Wouldn't mind a slightly broader menu, but what they do they do well. Will be even better when the work going on in the surrounding grounds is complete and the view gets even better.

What a surprise. It was much better on inside had lovely views of countryside. Food was lovely and staff friendly.
