Booked a suite for my husbands 40th and it was beautiful. The staff had left a little note with chocolates to wish him a happy birthday which was a nice little touch. I chose the hotel initially because I wanted somewhere close to the restaurant we were eating at ( Melton's - also highly recommended!) but the location was perfect for exploring. Only a ten minute walk to the centre of York. This hotel is definitely top of my list for any future visits to York.

Pros: our room was comfortable, a good size and nicely decorated. All staff were very friendly, we arrived earlier than check in time and they allowed us to our room slightly earlier which was a huge welcome! Good location being a short 10-15 min walk to inner city wall and train station or very easy to get the bus from outside the hotel. £7.25 drink voucher per room guest if you opt out of house keeping, we used against our wine that we had with dinner in the bistro. I felt this was a good initiative which I haven’t seen before. Cons: I felt the cleanliness of the room could be improved, there was dust/cobwebs in the room and hair in the bathroom. Strangely no bottled water in the room, I called down to room service to order some and they did deliver water to the room with no charge but it would be much more convenient for the guest and staff if it was already in the room. Unfortunately the extractor fan in the bathroom didn’t work properly meaning the room became very humid after showering.

My husband and I had dinner at Hotel Du Vin yesterday. We had previously been a year before and we thought we would come again. Both occasions were fantastic. The food is excellent both in terms of portion size and presentation without being pretentious. There is a relaxed and warm ambience. The staff were all welcoming and helpful particularly Sara who served us and was attentive, knowledgeable with a warm & kind disposition. We enjoyed chatting to her.

It's York, so let's start there. What a city stayed many many times, and if you look back at my reviews, you'll see i stayed just across the road from HdV, and if you can work the dates, you will not find a better VFM for the quality of service comfort and food. Oh, I have to give Jake the mixologist bar Keep a shout out. He was a diamond and if it was not for him, we would've gone out for dinner, but as the hotel was light on guests, we were offered the snug as we wanted a couple's off menu spread in comfort. The duty manager asked if we would be happy for her to pair the wine with our choice of Steak Tartare and the epic cheese board. It was not cheap, but one bottle of the right wine was cheaper than two bottles of the wrong wine. 🍷👌. Oh, just so you know, the room we had wasn't brilliant, so if you can go for the suites do it, the basic room was OK but I'm 6'5", so I'm kinda awkward and the suites are in the historic building with more room for lanky sleepers .

We recently visited this restaurant for a birthday celebration with a group of 10 and, unfortunately, left feeling very underwhelmed. The set menu, priced at £24.95 per person, was disappointing with very average food. While we enjoyed drinks, including wine and G&Ts, the overall dining experience was far from what we had hoped for. The sides, charged additionally (as expected), were poor quality—cold vegetables and watery, flavorless spinach, chips were ok though. The one redeeming feature was the crème brûlée, which was delicious, but it wasn’t enough to save the meal. The service was equally disappointing. The waitress was overly eager to clear plates, often bumping into us and showing little awareness of her rudeness. To make matters worse, she stepped on the birthday girl’s flowers and didn’t even apologise! The bill was the final blow. Not only was there an automatic service charge, but also a separate bar service charge. On top of that, we were charged nearly £5 per bottle of tap water! Overall, it was a frustrating experience, and sadly, we wouldn’t return. While the crème brûlée was nice, it’s not enough to make up for the poor service and overpriced, mediocre food.

Great afternoon tea and wonderful food. The sandwiches were a little bry The room was very well decorated. But the constant people use this area. To move laundry and housekeeping stuff, it was not relaxing the door to outside opening blasting cold air didn't help we loved the place and the tea and staff We will be back

This is a boutique hotel really close to the station. Easy walk to the city centre, so if you are looking for a convenient hotel, this is one for you. The people who work here understand what luxury service is. My partner and I had a very restful stay thanks to them. Thanks Adam and Izzy.

Our first time staying at Hotel du Vin. When checking in we were asked if we wanted to pay extra to upgrade the room for our two night stay. We declined and on arrival at our room were very pleasantly surprised to find we had been upgraded to a wonderful suite anyway. The twin side by side showers were amazing! Plenty of good quality tea/coffee in the room and we used the voucher provided in lieu of housekeeping at the bar. Breakfast was great with a fantastic choice of quality hot and cold food. If using the car park avoid parking under the overhanging trees if possible. We had a bonnet full of presents from the birds and had to divert to the nearest car wash on leaving (Tesco not far away). Definitely recommend and would stay again!

We had a celebration of our parents lives after our Dad's funeral. The covered courtyard was perfect and the request for afternoon tea style food was great and received lots of positive comments. Not the most obvious place for a wake but it was very well done.

The Hotel du Vin provided an exceptional lodging experience, with a remarkable room featuring a delightful deep bath. However, the loose screws at the bottom of the taps, causing them to lean on the bath, require immediate attention, as this is not the level of quality expected for the price. The room service was satisfactory, yet the portion sizes were disproportionately small compared to the cost. It is important to note that this establishment is a highly refined hotel, and guests who do not conform to its standards may encounter disapproving glances from the staff. Additionally, breakfast was not included in the £265 one-night stay, which may have been an oversight during the booking process. For the price, one would reasonably expect breakfast to be included. However, a nearby restaurant offered more substantial portions, delicious food, and lower prices, including drinks. While the room itself was commendable, the staff's attitude towards certain guests may require reevaluation.

After having a fantastic time at the race’s coloured member of staff had to bring it all Don’t. So rude and arrogant ruined not just my mood but another at least 10 friends. People with an attitude should not be working in hospitality. Havnt said that, a warm negroni with no ice or orange is a no go because t he insisted it is the way its being served ….. This member of staff was sooo rude that he even wrote his name down just incase someone like me who’s been in a county for 20+ years could not read Beyond ! Thank you

Lovely room, dinner and breakfast were both very good. I never usually have dinner in a hotel, but this was worth it. The breakfast was also superb, the ladies in the restaurant were very pleasant and helpful. Good location for both the town and the station. Definitely recommended.

This place is so good that I went twice in my two days visitin York! Both times I had the Yorkshire breakfast that was delicious, especially the folded eggs that were exceptional and probably one of the best buttered bread I ever had. The second time I’ve also tried their carrot cake that was divine. Highly recommended and in a strategic position just opposite York Minster.

It's a nice building and the interior is smartly decorated. Service started off well, but when they got busier got a bit sporadic. The set menus (available lunch and dinner) keep things within a budget. However, fundamentally I don't think the food is that great. Between us we had calamari, pate, garlic mushrooms, pizzas, calzone and an arribiatta and it was pretty much OK.

Unfortunately I didn't have a good experience here. The food was delivered upstairs without any cutlery. I didn't mind and went downstairs to get some, making sure I went to be Tiro so I was taking cutlery from the place I had ordered the food. The 2 chefs were busy, one had just brought the food to my table, I took a knife and fork from the counter and the man who had just delivered the food snapped my head off. I explained that I had just ordered from him and he hadn't brought us any cutlery... He had just been at my table 2 minutes before so I would have expected him to recognise me. He continued to look at me in disgust and shake his head at me... I found it hard to understand why someone could get so angry over disposable cutlery. I will not be ordering from here again.
