We had 2 breakfasts and 1 dinner at the Bistro du Vin. Lovely food, lovely setting and fabulous service. Breakfast buffet selection is good and the avocado on toast with poached eggs was truly stunning, wow! We had the chateaubriand for dinner which was very tasty, melt in the mouth beef, the service from James was so attentive and friendly, thank you! If we are ever near Poole again we will be back. Defintely worth trying this restaurant…

We’ve stayed at the Hotel Du Vin in Poole a number of times over the years and the food has always been consistently excellent. I would say the same about the service in the restaurant. Ann (who served us tonight) was friendly and helpful, the service was efficient without feeling rushed - a very enjoyable experience!

We had the 5-course Taster Menu. The chef did us proud - it was simply delicious and with a really excellent choice of wine for each course. Our waitress Ann talked knowledgeably and enthusiatically about each wine and its appropriate course making the whole experience interesting as well as delicious.

Usually, tasting menus are little food and average wine. This Bistro, even at lunch, serves a five course menu with matching wines. Each plate and wine are carefully described by the wonderful presenters, there is no pressure, no rush. A wonderful place to have a late afternoon meal when it is quieter, for plenty of time to enjoy. We arrived at 2pm and left at 6pm. With pre-meal drinks, coffee and after-dinner drinks, the TOTAL price was £85pp. Extravagant, yes, yet wonderful.

We had a lovely meal. I messed up with my order because I inadvertent ordered something I was allergic to. Our absolutely lovely waitress Ann and the chef accommodated my change of order at the last second, so I could safely eat. They went the extra mile, the food was nice and the service that Ann provided was so friendly and helpful. The meal included a complimentary glass of house white, which was lovely and Ann very kindly went and found out which wine it was. So lovely. Thanks Daniel

Lovely building, good location , rooms and food all good & up to H du V standard we’ve experienced elsewhere. A quiet, charming and luxurious place to stay, we especially liked the garden and the large shower & standing bath in our room.Staff were friendly and pleasant but too stretched; this meant service was not really consistently good enough. Post lockdown , I know staffing is a problem for the hospitality industry but to get customers back, service needs to be good.If not for this aspect, this would be a 5 star review - we had a great time!

We ate here last night, table for two for our wedding anniversary, viewing the menu online and the high prices, expected that little bit more. The ambiance is lovely and the bistro is designed lovely, felt Covid safe. The food - I had French onion soup for starters my husband had scallops both of which were fantastic. For mains we had mussels and morrocan lamb with couscous, couscous- the mussels served with frites were good but not exceptional, some were quite gritty! The lamb dish my husband found very chewy and dry.The drinks - overpriced £8.75 for a gin and tonic is extremeThe service - 10% surcharge included on bill!! However service was terrible, we were asked to use scan code to view the menu on our phones, surely they could provide menues and then clean them! When we requested menues they did come reluctantly, we were served our starters before our drinks arrived, we asked numerous times and different staff for things that didn't arrive! Let down the evening. For the two of us with the added service charge and 2 courses it was £95 for that price expected more.... would we return, dont think so!!

I debated about giving the stay two stars and three! The only thing that made me do three was some of the staff in the bistro were very good! What was meant to be a real treat (our first night away baby free) was far from a treat! Please please please... do not spend £250 on this hotel! It would be an absolute waste of money... for £250 I would expect something really quite special... special it was not! I’ve stayed in far better holiday Inns!! The bistro is also outrageously priced for very average food! We ordered the tiger prawns of which we got four and may as well have come from Iceland! The steak was flavourless and tough... again I’ve had better from Sainsbury’s and cooked myself! Very disappointing Finally I’m not sure if there was a problem with the plumbing in our room but every 5 minutes through the whole night there was a noise which is hard to describe but drove us both close to the edge and left us with very little sleep.... the cold tap in the bathroom also ran scalding hot!! ♀️We will be emailing the hotel to express our disappointment... to be honest we were both so tried when we left we just wanted to get home!

Having been to Poole a number of times over the years, I have to admit I had never even considered the Hotel Di Vin Bistro as a place to eat. On this occasion, this was a relatively last minute dinner booking as a treat for myself and my partner. The hotel itself is just off the quay and the bistro is set downstairs. Upon entering the bistro you immediately have your expectations set as the decor is very pleasant indeed. My partner and I were shown to our seats in the restaurant which only had 2 other tables in use, although I will note that there were several more tables in use in the outdoor space. The menu is accessed via a QR code displayed at the table, and even on a larger screen phone it can be difficult to see the full choice especially for drinks. However, these are strange times and this is not an unusual occurrence at the moment. We chose dishes off the specials menu of Scallops for starters and fillet steak with sides or carrots & spinach for main. The scallops were excellent and cooked to just the right degree. For the mains, my partner had his steak medium rare, and again this was cooked perfectly for him, whilst my well done steak was also cooked to perfection. Even the fries and accompanying sides were delicious. I would note here that the fillet steak only comes as an 8oz option and I personally would have liked a larger size option. For dessert my partner tried the creme brûlée and I opted for the cheese plate. I’m pleased to say that the creme brûlée met the ‘crack’ test and the selection of cheeses was well received. I will note that the crackers for the cheese plate were Jacobs Cream Crackers, and whilst I have no problem overall with this, a small selection would have been a nice touch. I can say that the ambiance during the meal was excellent and the background music was loud enough to enjoy, whilst being quiet enough not to intrude into a conversation. The service we received from the waitress, the bartender and the restaurant manager on the night was fantastic and certainly added to the overall experience. Whilst slightly on the more costly side, all in all I would say this represents good value for money. Not only will we be returning in the future, but o would certainly recommend the bistro to anyone.

We dined here one Saturday evening in January. We had a pre-dinner aperitif in the bar. Here, the service was excellent. There was no table at our seats initially, but we were brought one when our drinks were served. We obtained the wine list and chose a wine which we wanted to accompany dinner. Then, we went through to the dining area. We were first shown a table in a row against the wall. These were all fairly close together and we asked to be seated more centrally away from neighbouring tables. This was arranged. We then asked to order the wine. We had chosen a 2014 Rioja (I can’t remember precisely what it was and, in spite of claims to the contrary, I can’t see the wine list on the restaurant web-site), but that was unavailable. We then talked to the person acting as sommelier who went off the cellar to see if there was any of the 2014 left. There wasn’t, but we were offered a 2016 at the same price. I don’t think that restaurants should do this. Price varies with vintage. We were allowed to taste the 2016 but we did not like it. We were then allowed to taste a number of wines (including one from Navarra and one from Sicily), none of which was very good. In the end, we chose an Argentinean Malbec (Luigi Bosca Gala 2017 at £59). Luigi Bosca wines are widely available across the globe and most are adequate but not necessarily outstanding. We had much better (and much cheaper) Malbecs in Argentina recently. However, I have to say that the person acting as sommelier was extremely pleasant and very accommodating. Now to the food. This can be summed up in one word – disappointing. My wife chose the chicken liver parfait and it is difficult for this ever to be unacceptable. I chose the chèvre chaud and beetroot tian which was more chèvre froid than chèvre chaud. We had both chosen ‘classic’ cassoulet plus one green salad to share for our main courses. This was a mistake. I am not sure what anybody from southwest France would have done if they had encountered this cassoulet. They would have either burst out laughing or thrown their hands up in horror. Swimming in a sea of tomato were some widely-scattered beans and carrots plus a whole sausage, a confit duck’s leg and a lump of belly pork. This was not a ‘classic’ cassoulet or even a pale imitation thereof. There had been no attempt a reduction or thickening. Thereafter, my wife had crème brulée whereas I had an Armagnac (Darroze XO). The Armagnac was excellent and was probably the best part of the meal for me! The bill came to £165 which include an extra 5% on top of the 10% service charge because the ‘sommelier’ was so helpful. The breakfast was fine and was freshly cooked to order. It’s good to see kippers still on menus. However, our breakfasts were left standing on the counter for a little while as all of the serving staff had disappeared. In the end, I went up to the kitchen staff and asked if they were for us. I was about to take them myself when someone appeared to bring them to our table.

Nice environment. £40 to £45 a head with a bottle of wine and a couple of beers etc....Nothing on draught and the bottles were on the pricey side even for the likes of Heineken, to be expected I would think. We had a variety of meals on the table for Sunday Lunch everyone was happy with the quality, due to the four courses, the volume left you loosening the belt buckle. The second course is a posh market place buffet, with a chef and quality ingredients, really quite a nice touch......Couple of niggles reduces the rating. Whilst it was full and a Sunday, it took half an hour for our first drinks to arrive from being seated (food felt perfect in terms of waiting times) but a theme for the restaurant rest of the visit. When it came to desserts and my belt was loosened to the max, I decided to ask to have a coffee instead of risking the need to roll myself home. I understand meals are costed on margins etc, but would guess the restaurant would win out on this one..had I been warned that they needed to charge for the coffee that too would be fine.... at the end of the sitting the bill is presented and to my surprise a service charge along with a charge for the coffee...When eventually the terminal to pay was presented I reduced the service charge accordingly to offset the unexpected coffee charge... I had contemplated requesting the dessert at this point but looked at the bulging waist line and thought better. I normally would give the cash to the staff but decided to donate the coffee element to a charity instead. For context it was busy and the end of the shift so please don’t judge the restaurant solely on the last bit. I will return, I will also be sure to fast in the morning before hand. It’s well worth a try if you want something more sophisticated than a Wetherspoons.

Had the four course tasting menu for my birthday recently, having never tried this kind of dining before and we both loved it. I'm an amateur wine buff and it was so interesting to experience how wine I wouldn't usually enjoy paired perfectly with the right foods to compliment both, and now feel much more confident to explore new wines day to day. Sennen, our server, most definitely made the experience for us. She's so knowledgeable and committed to giving us the best experience possible. I can't praise her highly enough for her service. Loved the food, but found after that it had been too much rich food for me personally. The salmon for the first course was huge, and if we went again would probably go for the pear and walnut salad as this would have been lighter. Great value for money with portion sizes and wines. Wouldn't hesitate to book again once menu changes.

We were staying on the sunday night package, which is the only reason we felt the meal was OK value. The mushroom on toast starter was quite small and the lamb casserole very bland. The tiger prawns were very nice, and the aubergine and halloumi bake was basic. We ordered lyonnaise potatoes which came cold, we complained and they sent a new batch out which were hot, but we had nearly finished the meal (the cost was removed from the bill). The wine chosen wasn't available, so a more expensive one was suggested. It also really bugs me when the service charge is added. It was a shame as the room we stayed in overnight was lovely. My belated birthday dinner. I had delicious mushrooms on toast and then a rib eye steak. Couldn't manage a dessert. My only moan is that I can never, ever get a hot rare steak. It needs to be seared on a smoking hot pan on both sides and then straight onto a hot plate and out to the customer. It's always lukewarm at best. This happens everywhere, not just here. When we were given menus – both an a la carte and a menu prix fixe (we were not informed of the price which was not displayed on the menu) - we were told that Cod was not available but that Salmon had been substituted. Having discussed the menu, we then tried to order but were informed that Chateaubriand was no longer available so two of us had to choose again. Having taken the order the waitress returned after a while to say that the Moules Mariniere one of us had ordered was not available either. We chose again and eventually our food arrived. My wife’s Pissaladiere was a big disappointment. The topping, which was olives and peppers rather than the traditional onions, was somewhat sparse but the problem lay with the crust base. Unable to make a dent in it, yet alone cut it, she requested a steak knife but fared no better. To be fair, the waitress did offer to take it back to the kitchen for the chef to cut it up! When I came to pay the bill I was pleased to note that I had not been charged for this item. We had a great reunion with our friends but were disappointed that the usual Hotel du Vin standards appear to have slipped on this occasion. I must add that all the staff who spoke to us were most apologetic.

I visited the Poole Hotel du Vin for afternoon tea with five friends. The restaurant wasn’t busy but our large table was directly next to a table with a couple which was odd with so much space in the restaurant and I felt sorry for them being squashed in against the wall.

Decided to eat here as was staying for 2 nights at the hotel. I had the mushrooms to start which were very nice and had the burger which was rather average . My hubby had the steak which he said was nice especially the garlic butter sauce . I had an after dinner cocktail which was amazing . In general is was expensive for a not very imaginative menu and not what you would class as fine dinning but the waiter was lovely and popped over many times to check everything was OK even though he had quite a few tables to look after we were very impressed with his attentiveness .

My wife and I enjoyed an evening meal here. The food was very nice and the welcome on reception and bar staff were fine. However the service at the table was not great for a restaurant that try’s to portray fine dining. There was a table of 6 in front of us and another table with 2 to the side of us which was receiving attention and having their wine poured all evening. We however were stuck in the corner on arrival and to a degree forgotten about. I am happy to pour my own wine however if your going to offer this attentive service it should be offered to all. We were charged a service charge just as everyone else but we felt did not receive the service.

We went to the bistro last night for my mother's 80th birthday celebration. I could not rate this place highly enough, the staff were attentive the whole time and made us all feel very special, like they really cared that our evening was special. My son had arranged to pay for the whole meal, wine and champagne and this all went though with no problem at all. The food was perfection and the ambience relaxing. It was not my first time eating here and I chose it for this special occasion as I knew it would be excellent and they did not disappoint.

My sister in law and hubby were staying at the Hotel, and we joined them and other family members for dinner. Service was efficient and friendly. Most of us had the mussels, which were delicious, mopped up with their bread, which is always first rate. We usually visit at Christmas, so it was lovely to enjoy the hotel in the summer too.

I confess to be a fan of HdV Poole Bistro for a long time. Whether it is the hottest summer for years or deep dark winter, the Bistro offers a great welcome, sensibly priced food and great quality. You will not find a more efficient and pleasant service with a smile either. Sennen, Helen, Joseph, Carlos at the bar are the names I remember. Currently the menu has become a great deal more interesting with lobster, crab, steak tartare, etc. This place is perfect for my family and business meals, knowing that we will not be let down and enjoy a great session each time, with a smile!

I've long known about the cosy bar and restaurant hidden in this luxurious hotel, and it's a great retreat in the winter. But I've only just discovered the spacious, sheltered courtyard which is a perfect place for summer evenings. We had delicious filling salads and the service was relaxed and friendly. Since many local restaurants have really upped their game (and prices) recently, Hotel du Vin is increasingly good value for such a nice old town hideaway.

Had a fantastic birthday Sunday lunch at the bistro. The four course meal is really well presented and has good choice for all. Not just a Sunday lunch, but a good vegetarian range, or fish for those that want. The French table/buffet is a lovely touch.

Arrived for breakfast with my husband, but later than expected due to delayed hospital appointment. We weren't certain we'd be served as time was close to last breakfast orders. However waitress was excellent & checked with chef and soon helped us to relax with a really warm welcome & didn't rush us at all. We enjoyed a very tasty breakfast - and for quality and quantity feel the price is excellent value. As it was a sunny day, we ate outside in the shade - and staff were very friendly and efficient. We've enjoyed breakfast here in the past and usually been very pleased - intend to visit again very soon, mainly due to excellent welcome from the young waitress & other staff.

Fantastic Sunday dinner, the waiting staff are really nice, if I have one moan it’s the amount of time we have to wait, but apart from that really amazing.

Walk through the small hotel bar to reach the bistro which has rows of seating in pretty uninspired dark (no windows) surroundings in annex of hotel. Doesn’t feel french, doesn’t feel like a bistro. Certainly the menu is French inspired with Steak Tartare, Moules, Escargot, Coq Au Vin, Featherblade and various steak cuts and Casoulet amongst the choices on an extensive menu. I ate a smoked salmon and egg caper starter - (ordinary) and a delicious Red Mullet dish with saffron potatoes and aioli. She ate pate (rich) with lamb chop and jersey royals in red wine sauce which was tasty enough. Sides of beans and carrots did their job. I’d like to go back and try other things.

We booked in for afternoon tea online, which was really quick and easy. We'd heard wonderful things about the hotel & bistro, and as the luxury go-to place in Poole we were really excited. When we arrived there was only one group in the whole restaurant yet it took ages for anyone to come over to us to even say hi let alone seat us. Once someone did come over they asked if we wanted the savoury part of the tea before we'd even sat down. Three different waiters came over and asked us what kind of tea we'd like (they have all different flavours/herbal etc) and then another person came over to ask us if we were having afternoon tea or cream tea, it was an absolute shambles, the staff had zero communication between themselves. Once the savoury food arrived it was lovely, although spoiled towards the end when I found a hair baked into the quiche, they replaced it but it had put me off eating to be honest. Around 20 minutes later they brought the sweet treats out - they were absolutely lovely but they had covered every single one in powdered sugar so that's all you could taste. For afternoon tea and two glasses of prosecco each we paid over £80 - not worth it at all! Won't be returning!

Since my favourite restaurant was closed for Easter holidays our party had to make do with this bistro. I had been before but had not been over impressed but truthfully cannot remember why.

The Hotel du Vin bistro came highly recommended by several friends so we gave it a try. Overall I would have to say I was disappointed and it didn't meet my expectations. We all went for the 4 course lunch, the food was actually very good but let down by the service, we had to ask several times for water for the table, later we were asked if we wanted more drinks and mine never turned up at all, the main course came out with the meat, but it took too long for the vegetables to arrive. Considering the cost of the meal plus a £19 service charge for what I would class as below average customer service I can only rate this place as average overall.

Terrible weather so was one bar open near to where we were staying. Lovely, cosy and comfortable bar area. Ordered a bottle of prosseco. Delivered in an ice bucket and served. Two beers nice but pricey. There is also a room adjacent to bar that looked inviting. Bar tender was friendly and attentive.

Disclaimer. I have never been to this museum. I've been to Poole many times in the past but not for a few decades. So why am I posting a review? See the attached image which appeared on Reddit today and I'm doing my best to distribute the awesome wholesomeness this museum promotes. When I do go to Poole next, this museum will be my first port of call.
